Love bar and juke music playing Saturday 7pm. Beer/wine only. Wine Garitas $3, house wine $3. Kids playing bartop games, bowl of candy on the bar. Game started at 8pm and the juke box lowered and the basketball game volume turned up!
Bud, bud lite, miller lite, Shiner on tap that I saw.
Enjoyed my nacos, plenty of people there spending time with family and friends. -

The best thing on the menu is undoubtedly the ceviche. It is truly wonderful; a large portion, very fresh, mixed with great pico de gallo, served with chips. The wait staff is always courteous, however, besides the ceviche (which is reason alone to go here and is very good), I am not a huge fan of their food. I had the grilled fish tacos, which were overly fishy tasting and the fish was so wet/oily that it kept slipping out of the corn tortillas. I've also had a salad there, which was pretty bad: just some romaine lettuce, un-seasoned chicken breast, bacon bits, and pre-shredded grocery store-style cheddar cheese. I moved to Brownsville from Wisconsin and this cheese was an insult to what cheese can be. Flavorless, dry, blah. I'm not saying this place is bad, I'm just saying I would rather go get $1 tacos at ultimo or mr. taco and save some money and get better food.

Vermillion is a traditional Brownsville watering hole. The patty melt, nachos, burger, are all delicious.
The wait staff is friendly and courteous and the food is great every time. I have lunch here pretty regularly when I come home. -

Good home cooked food and great place to unwind and drink after work. Only gripe is needs to be bigger because the place fills up fast during peak hours.

While in Brownsville I searched reviews for a local spot to have lunch. It's not the typical TexMex, chips and salsa place. I ordered the fish tacos which came with the best beans I have ever tasted. The tacos were very good and the presentation was fresh and appetizing. My husband ordered chalupas, served on a large plate with another fresh and appetizing appeal. He enjoyed them. The service was friendly and attentive. The interior feels somewhat yesteryear. Pictures of historic Brownsville lined the wall of the booth. I prefer to steer away from the predictable chains. I am glad we found this spot for lunch. I would go back.

The crowd at this place is enough to let you know it's a popular spot with the locals. Both the restaurant and bar were full on Friday mid afternoon. We ordered several of the full order beef fajita nachos with added guacamole. There was not a single nacho that wasn't fully loaded with beef cheese or guacamole. Not fancy, but a good place to get comfort food.

this place is incredible! i have only been here three times (once during each of my trips to south texas) but each time, the food was amazing.
i love the fish tacos. they are so unique, with avocado, pico de gallo and a delicious dressing. they are served with beans a la charra. they do both traditional american (diner-esque) dishes and mexican equally well. my husband likes the brisket and the chicken-fried steak.
it is so valuable for brownsville to have family-owned, independently-run, non-chains like this and vermillion is one of the best. -
