To be perfectly honest, I have only been to Vermilionville twice.  Once when I was very young and the last time, 4 years ago, when I got married there.  My husband and I are one of many couples that get married at Vermilionville every year.  It's a great place to have a wedding because you can have the ceremony in the chapel and the reception at the hall on the grounds just a hundred yards away.

They have a coordinator who takes care of guest direction and services traffic on the day of the wedding and they set up the reception hall to your preference and take care of catering for you.

I now live in Texas so for me it was a destination wedding and I wanted to get married in the town I was born and raised in.  I think it's a very quaint place for a wedding and since you get the park all to yourself after hours your guests can walk the grounds with no other tourists.

As an archaeologist I really like Vermilionville.  The restored Acadian and Creole homes/cottages are really cool to go in and the staff the have working in the houses is both very knowledgeable and friendly.  My only real complaint comes from current graduate research which on Cajun food.  The restaurant, La Cuisine De Maman, which claims to serve traditional Cajun/Creole food gave me some issues.  Apparently everyday they only serve one plate lunch meal (I guess back in the late 1700's Acadians did the same which is why the "plate lunch" must be traditional) and today it was meatball stew.  Uh...WTF?  Since when are meatballs indigenous to the Cajun cuisine?  I'm sure they serve more authentic dishes depending on the day but that just really threw me off so I had to give it 4 stars.  If you are visiting the Lafayette area and want to see how Acadians lived back in the day then this is the place to go.  Just save your appetite for one of the many truly Cajun restaurants in the area.

Oh and one last issue, the chick who was working up at the admission desk really didn't know much about the site.  I mean, I was asking her questions and she literally had no information.  Although, the ladies working in the houses as guides were very informative, this girl could have been more helpful with a little education on the site she is working at.  Geez, this was my second time going to Vermilionville and I knew more than her.
