My parent's were insistent I have a cell phone my senior year in high school. How embarrassing. What I really wanted was a pager but those were going out of style fast (circa 1998).
Remember, back then Verizon was Airtouch Cellular. Yeah, I had those Zack Morris phones where you use your entire hand to dial. Score!
Fast forward a few years, we didn't have issues with Verizon. That is until my dad passed away. You see, all of the phones were under his name and when he passed, we wanted to disconnect for financial reasons. Legit right?
My mom and I walked into the Verizon store and waited politely to disconnect our phones. The guy at the counter was a complete and utter DICK! He refused to cancel our phones because he needed my dad's confirmation. Uh hello! Did you just not hear he's passed on? My mom ended up yelling at the guy (imagine a 4'5" woman who just lost her husband yelling) and he completely walked away from her. He came back with his manager trying to calm the situation. The asshole manager wanted an "actual death certificate" in order to cancel our phone? Seriously? Needless to say my mom threw a fit in the store for it's ridiculous standards.
We came back with the death certificate, canceled our phones and called the worker an "insensitive asshole" as we walked out of the store.
I'm quite happy with AT&T. Screw you Verizon!

Verizon is GREAT! Never had a problem with their service. Always a great attitude by their retail people.
