Woodbridge, VA
As someone very familliar with the VA wine scene, I would recommend Veritas to anyone. It's one of the best in the state. All of the wines were good. Even when I tasted something that wasn't my favorite as far as personal taste preference, I could tell it was a great quality wine. The grounds are beautiful and from what I saw in the wedding photography books they had on display, they do a real classy, first-class job with events.

This is one of my favorite wineries. I love that they greet you at the door. It was decorated for Halloween when we were there so it had a very fun and festive atmosphere. The scenery, quality, and service are top notch. They have a very nice seating area inside and a wrap around deck with a little fire pit outside. This would be a lovely venue for a wedding, however, it is only offered in the evenings so it won't hinder their business hours.
Also, I love when you get a complimentary wine glass with tastings. Their glasses have a pretty design. -

I'm sure that weddings and other events at Veritas are beautiful since the venue looks so pretty just during normal holidays, but if you're just going for wine tasting... I wouldn't. The tasting room wasn't too crowded on a Sunday afternoon, but it still took 10-15 minutes for service. The wines weren't spectacular--I'm glad the pours weren't overly generous. The smaller vineyards around the area have much better flavor. The patio is a nice spot for a picnic, but the views are average for the beauty of the area.

My fourth attempt to visit Veritas and try their wines paid off - visiting on a Friday morning helped. This is an extremely popular place. They're well known in Northern VA and they're not even a huge presence at festivals. The popularity is well-deserved. Terrific wines (the viognier was my favorite white and the cab franc was my favorite red - two "cliches" in the world of Virginia wine, but I have to call it like it is).
The grounds are beautiful. The mountains surround you on all sides and there is a lot of land to "stretch out." Adirondack chairs (regular and rockers) liberally placed throughout the grounds. Ample covered and uncovered spots to enjoy the day.
Now, the grumbles----a very small parking lot (amazing to me, considering the popularity of this winery) and a long wait time for tastings. Small tasting bar, and no rhyme or reason to who gets waited on first. Visit early in the morning, if you can...they're open at 9 AM!Listed in: Virginia Wineries

Wow, I totally understand why people like this place for weddings! The Vineyard is GORGEOUS! I'm afraid to ask what the prices for a wedding here...yeesh!
Their tasting room is almost like a lounge with cushy chairs and tables. A great place to go as a group and just chill with some wines. It has a very elegant medieval feel wit the beautiful antique furniture. You can have a seat at the bar or in any of the lounges for group tastings where someone will serve you the tastings. This made the tasting much more fun because it was so cozy and group orientated. They were nice enough to give us a tasting, even though it was almost close to closing time.
I was a huge fan of the White Star Table wine. This is a refreshing, chilling out on the deck near the pool type of a wine. I can't wait to bust this one open the next time I am out on my patio.
Another favorite for pretty much the same reasons is the Saddleback Chardonnay. Of course I am steel barrel fan, so unoaked chardonnays are always a winner for me.
Next time I am so going on the cellar tour or attending one of their dress up events! -

Having been to several Virginia wineries while living in the DC area, Veritas is easily among my top picks in terms of scenery, service, and quality. I visited this gorgeous winery for a wedding in late June and there had been some rain earlier in the week, which made the grounds ultra green and lush. My friends had their ceremony just outside the main barn-style building and exchanged their vows in front of the VA countryside/surrounding mountains. All guests could clearly hear the Pastor, bride, groom, and birds chirping off in the distance. The string quartet playing beneath a swooping tree also made for a very romantic setting.
As we moved into the tasting room for the cocktail hour, everyone mingled and snacked on tasty appetizers while sipping wine on comfy couches and leather chairs. We then entered the large ballroom for the reception, which was beautifully decorated with white/sheer drapes around the perimeter and soft twinkle lights here and there. As for food, the prime rib was tender and delicious, the tri-colored tortellini was a perfect al dente, and the vinaigrette dressing for our salads was out of this world. I'm not sure who did the cake, but it was also outstanding.
The next day, we returned to buy a bottle of the petit verdot and were greeted by friendly staff who suggested food pairings with the wine. They had lots of customers, but it didn't feel too crowded or noisy at all in the tasting room. Everyone was touring the grounds and I even noticed a few folks toting picnic baskets, which I thought would be really lovely for an afternoon or early evening outing. We left with two reasonably priced bottles and I've yet to crack mine open, but will save it for a special occasion to remember our time at Veritas. It's an awesome venue for a wedding and I wish the newlyweds, Mr. & Mrs. Moon, congratulations on their marriage!! -

I was drawn in by this winery's name. Any former Latin student looking for her first official wine tasting would be.
Veritas is beautiful (as you can see) both inside and out. A friend and I traipsed here out of the parking lot, lingering to take in the landscape. Behold, inside is just as bright and warmly welcoming, a spacious room with a handsome wooden table. I suspect the place is enchanted by benevolent sprites.
The woman who spoke to us during our tasting was delightful, soft-spoken and of course extremely knowledgeable. Amateur at best, I felt the wines had clear and distinct flavors. I nearly purchased a bottle of the Claret (the second reason I chose Veritas, to be honest) but it was juuust a tad too sweet for me-- so I chose Othello instead!
What also rocked my socks about Veritas was that the staff all join each other for lunch at aforementioned beautiful wooden table, which was icing on the cozy family feel for me. -

A.) Gorgeous scenery. I mean really, REALLY gorgeous.
B.) Amazing sauvignon blanc.
C.) Tons of picnic tables.

This place is spacious on the inside and has a great ambiance. However, I can see how people feel that this place is pretentious.
$5 for flight of white wines. Same for red wines. There are more white wines to taste than red wines, and the "menu" changes weekly for obvious reasons. If you buy a bottle, the $5 tasting is waived.
Our "server" was very knowledgeable without being too uppity. The wines were good, with a large variety of different kinds. Also since one of my friends bought three bottle of wine, they waived my tasting fee as well.
However, I wish that we could have tasted the wines outside on the patio. -
Review from Clara L.
My friends had their wedding here a couple weekends ago. The place is gorgeous! The ceremony took place outside where it was just very peaceful and perfect. I'm from the DC metro area, where peace and quiet rarely exists.
The wine was fabulous (I don't remember all of the ones I tried, but the cab franc was good!). The food at the reception was quite delicious, which I think is catered by Veritas. Though not sure how available that is, when you're there for wine tasting vs. a wedding. The reception was held in their banquet room which was very elegantly decorated.
Overall, I was very impressed with everything. And we were also very lucky that the rain held off till the next day. I would definitely want to go back for a wine tasting/vineyard tour sometime! -

This is definitely one of the nicest vineyards in the area! We had a wonderful experience here and even joined their wine club.
The drive up to the winery is magnificent and really adds a lot to the experience. The facility itself is gorgeous and reminded us of some of the vineyards in Nappa Valley. The tasting room was packed, but we found a little table in the corner where we were served and were able to relax while tasting around a dozen wines. The tasting was free since we left with almost a half of a case :) The grassy areas in front of the facility were filled with families enjoying picnics and kids chasing the local chickens and dogs that called Veritas home. It was quite entertaining. There were plenty if places to sit and relax around the grounds and enjoy wine by the glass while you are gazing at the beautiful scenery.
The people were very friendly. The crowd did appear to be of the wealthier side... but it is a winery after all. We felt like we received wonderful service (even before the purchase) and can't wait to go back for their summer concert series.
The wine is definitely some of the best that I have had in the area. Not all were outstanding, but they all had a taste of quality. We are by no means connoisseurs, but can tell the difference between a place that makes their wine with pride and one that is in it more for the hobby and to make a buck.
We had a wonderful experience here and will be making many trips back with our friends!Listed in: Fall Favorites!

This review is related to hosting a wedding at Veritas. Chloe and the Veritas staff were fantastic. We could not have been more pleased, and I highly recommend them. Chloe was patient, thoughtful and genuinely invested in ensuring that we had the day of our dreams. I also really appreciated that she was responsive throughout the process (to both us and the other vendors).
It rained the day of the wedding (which was supposed to have been outside), and they were especially fantastic about executing the Plan B quickly and efficiently.
The only criticism I have is regarding the tasting process. Before we were married, Veritas held 3-4 tastings through the winter/srping where they featured 2-3 apps, salads, entrees. It made it really difficult to get an idea of what to pick b/c the tasting options were so limited. I think this may change in the future since it sounds like they have had a lot of the same feedback about this. The tasting itsself was also a bit rocky (the chef who had been there for many years had just departed) so we certainly had some contructive criticism for Chloe after the tasting. However, one of the things that impressed me most about Chloe was the fact that she took the time to acknowledge our feedback and help us get to a place where we felt good about the menu (talking with the chef about other options, etc.)
You cannot go wrong with Veritas! -

Wonderful local vineyard 10 minutes off of I-64 in Afton. Wine tasting of both red and white. Tasting is free if you buy wine. the wines were pretty good and we bought a case to take home and share with friends.
This is a family owned and run operation and you can tell it by the casual and fun atmosphere. They certainly know their product and were extremely helpful. Overall a really nice experience.
Great stop and a wonderful vineyard. -

I stopped at Veritas during a short wine tasting tour last weekend. I've heard good things about the place, and I wanted to check it out.
I was a little bit disappointed, to be totally truthful. The words "pretentious" and "trendy" seemed to ring true in my mind.
The parking area was pretty much full, and the tasting room was quite busy (I guess that busy is good for their business, but it doesn't make my life any better). It was clear that this was a go-to place on the local winery circuit.
Their method for tasting is a little unique. My group was able to sit on some comfortable leather furniture while the Veritas associate brought the various wines to us. Having been to plenty of wineries, it's nice to not have to stand at the bar for once.
That said, the tasting was $5 for a flight of whites or a flight of reds, and $10 for both. And in what seems to be a disturbing local standard, the price of the tasting is not waived if you buy wine from them. My group of 5 plunked down $50 for the privilege of tasting in this fancy room.
The wine itself didn't really make an impression with me. Like I said, I've been to plenty of wineries, and I almost always like something on the list, and buy a bottle or two. I didn't feel the need to buy anything at Veritas, especially since there was no incentive in terms of waiving the tasting fees.
The building and grounds at Veritas are beautiful, to be sure. I would like to see the place in some other time than the dead of winter. -

Pretentious. Trendy. Crowded. Uppity.
You can stop reading now, since that's all you need to know about this place.
We did not plan on coming here but the owner of our C'Ville B&B told us that it was a good winery. We pulled up, and saw a few BMWs, a giant tour bus, and a couple of limousines. We should have just turned around right then and there!!!
We couldn't figure how how the heck to get in the building. You would think that they would put up a sign that says TASTINGS or ENTER HERE or something - but no! There was a large group of people on the patio, and I got the impression that they were young, pretentious singles from DC. Barf.
We finally found our way inside and we couldn't even get to the tasting bar, so we left. No need to waste our time at the crowded winery when there are better (and much less crowded) wineries within a few miles.
At the end of our day we were still in the area, and my husband suggested we go back. It was about 4:15pm, so we figured they would be winding down for the day (they close at 5). There were no tour buses when we pulled in, but the tasting line was nearly out the door! It was FAR more crowded than when we visited earlier in the day. I just didn't understand it. Again, it was full of DC yuppie types, which left a really bad impression.
So, basically, the wine might be fantastic, but if you want a more personal and less trendy wine experience, please go somewhere else. Pollak is just down the road and they were FABULOUS. -

Attended a wedding and reception held on site over the weekend and every aspect of it was perfect. The wine, as always, was spot on and a treat to drink. The food was amazing..(bacon wrapped scallops, steak, red potatos in a vinegrette dressing). The staff was beyond attentive and was always there to refill our glasses and/or clear the table. A++

what should one do if it's 80 degrees outside on a friday afternoon and you just want to explore central virginia? that was my question to a friend and she recommended going to veritas.
i hopped on my vespa and headed up 29 north and made my way over to afton. i pulled into veritas and was instantly delighted. i was so delighted, in fact, i took a picture on my phone and it is currently my background on my phone.
from the small parking lot, there are rows of vines in front of you and on the right of you. the winery is straight in front of you and looks like a large farm house with a wrap-around porch. the open lawn with chairs and tables spread out and the surrounding "mountains" (forgive my colorado-native view of the appalachians) yield an awesome outside area. if you would like a good ol' southern porch sitting, feel free to utilize the chairs or the tables on the porch...you can't go wrong no matter what you do. walking inside, the decor instantly has a classy feel with plush leather seating and a dark ambiance. staying out of the summer heat may be a necessity, so being inside is an optimal choice as well.
feeling great from my vespa ride and the aesthetics, i was ready to do a tasting. i forget the lady's name, but she was originally from england and was very welcoming. there were two options for the tasting - the regular and the reserve. the regular tasting (consisting of about 4 whites and 4 reds) was free and the reserve tasting (consisting of about 6 total) was $5 (unless you bought a bottle of reserve wine which would waive the tasting fee). i opted to do both and felt happy about doing it.
all of the wines were fabulous, but the one that stood out above the rest was the chardonnay. it was the best chardonnay i have ever had. it wasn't as dry as chardonnay normally is, but it had a nice, smooth, buttery feel, with a crisp pear and apple taste to it. a couple who was sitting on the porch when i came in had recommended the chardonnay to me and they were enjoying a bottle themselves.
another unique wine that was on the reserve menu was a dessert wine (i forget the specifics of the name or type) but it had a very unique smell of roses and a touch of honey taste. it was an award winner, and i would recommend the reserve tasting for this wine by itself.
i felt lucky to leave with a bottle of their chardonnay and happy about having spent the afternoon there. it was probably the best afternoon spent in my tenure in central virginia. it made me appreciate life more than ever before.
unless you don't want to have an exceptional time, don't go to veritas. if you want to have a refreshing and invigorating time, put veritas on the top of your list. go to veritas. you won't regret it. -

Good friends of mine invited us to check out one of the Starry Nights concerts that they have during the summer. The atmosphere is great if you are craving a nice summer night spent in the country. I am usually a red wine person and every one that I have tried was great. I especially enjoyed the Claret. They have a menu available for additional cost above the price of admission, but we opted for a picnic style dinner and multiple bottles of wine. We walked through the vineyard for a bit before dark and finished the night hanging out near the bonfire. I will be back for a tasting one weekend in the near future.

I love Veritas, it is worth the trip. They used to do tastings on a porch to the winery and now have a beautiful lodge-like building for tastings. I think their wines are great, their have a nice complexity of flavors. Unfortunately I don't see Veritas at many DC wine festivals, so get your friends and make a day trip out of it.

I had my wedding here in August. We worked with Veritas for over a year, and the wedding coordinator on site, Chloe, is wonderful. The vineyard has always been one of our favorite wineries -- really excellent wine, gorgeous grounds, really cool interior, and it is family-owned, which is always a plus. Having our wedding there made it even more special. They took excellent care of us and our guests, the service team was amazing, and the food was excellent. A great wedding venue and a great winery for tastings, too.

What a great place! Terrific views, great service, and a very beautiful place. I read the one star review below about how the person couldn't find the entrance and I just don't get that. It's common sense and you'd have to be an idiot not to figure that out. Veritas is a really cool place and well worth the time to visit. I'll be going back! Get the cheese plate there (they don't serve lunch or dinner) or bring your own lunch and have a picnic there outside!
