I used to come to Verde at least 3 times a week when I'm back home in the area. I've been coming since high school because I was IN LOVE with their milk tea. It has more of a whipped and frothy taste and is a much better deal than the other tea shops.

I'm sad they closed down since now we can only head over to Tapioca Express or Quickly's when we have that late tea craving. I hope they reopen somewhere else!

1958: Buddy asks " Peggy Sue, do you want to go to the Sock N Hop soda shop and have a milk shake with me?" as "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Barry plays on the transistor radio.

1968: Freeman says to India "Let's groove to a strawberry smoothie and some of those special brownies" as "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf plays on the 8 track.

1978:  Tyrone says to Yvonne "Let's trip to Orange Julius for a drink and a corn dog before we get down at the disco" as 'Stayin Alive" by the Bee Gees plays on the Boom Box.

1988:  Jennifer, while listening to "1-2-3" by Glora Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, gets interupted by Carlos, and takes off the headsets of her walkman when he raps "You look as hot as a creamy mocha chocolata from the coffeehouse!

1998: "No, instead of a Frappaciano from Starbucks, lets go to Jamba Juice  for a Strawberry's Wild with an energy boost" explains Jessica to Joshua, speaking loudly over the "..Baby One More Time" CD by Britney Spears.

2008: "Pearl @ Verde@10?" texts Chu-yu, while listening to "Sweet Talk" by Sweety the Mandopop duo on his iPod, to Linh, Yifei, Haneul and Takeshi.

If you didn't understand 2008, let's get up to speed. "Pearl" means a Pearl drink. This is also referred to as Boba or Bubble drinks. Verde is a popular Boba joint chain here, and off Castro in Mt. View, and maybe more. While many of you are getting your Frap from Starbucks or your Boost from Jamba, many young Asians are having Pearl drinks at places like Verde.

What is a place like this? If you mixed a Starbucks, Jamba Juice, and a Vietnamese or Thai coffee drink place, this would be close. Bubble drinks supposedly started in Taiwan. The bubble refers to the bubbles or froth at the top of the drink when you shake it. Pearl refers to large brown tapioca balls that are on the bottom of the drink. Verde has a large selection of milk teas, and smoothie type drinks, all can have pearls added. Flavors  like Avacado Green Tea, papaya, etc.

There is free internet wi-fi. So I saw 3 young asians, all with their laptops, one with headphones, hanging out, but not talking to each other. The only thing they did was move one table closer to the counter, to get a better wireless internet connection.

We tried the Mango Freeze ($2.95) plus Pearls ($0.25) and a "Summer of Love" which was a mixture of fruit flavors in a smoothie $3.50). They were pretty good. You get the large straw so you can suck the balls (er pearls!)  thru it out of the clear plastic cup.

These kind of places are popular all over asia, and in cities where there are large Asian populations. The former supervisor, Ed Jew in San Francisco, in addition to not actually living in SF, was trying to suck not pearls out of his Boba, but kickbacks from people who wanted to open Pearl drink chain stores in SF.

He should have listened to the 1958 hit: "Johnny B Goode instead of "Hit Me Baby One More Time"

Some people ask, are you a ball man or a grass jelly man?

Well, to be honest, I was a ball man until I moved to the jelly.

It really doesn't matter anymore since thie Verde Tea is now closed.

And where the hell am I now supposed to get my fried cuttlefish balls????!?!

    Closure.

Thanks to Tracy A., I got a chance to try this place out ! Lots of different drinks available and plenty of seating/lounging area. The lady/owner is sweet and she's the only one working there so if there's a line, BE PATIENT!

I tried the strawberry lychee green tea ($3) and it was yummy and refreshing. I wish there was really strawberries and lychee in it though! Other then that, it's a great healthy, refreshing drink. You can create your own drink too. She'll be happy to make it for you.

The cafe itself is pretty small and dark and warm... I was sweating bullets inside.. Too bad it's going to close soon, seems like a pretty good spot to grab a drink when you're in the neighborhood...

THIS place is now closed so DON'T bother to come here! I hope this shows up when people search for this, so that they don't waste a trip.

Anyways, the last time I came here, I had their fried calamari (it was the processed, finger long slices, not the real kind). Their hot sprinkly sauce was great. Their popcorn chicken could've used better meat, it was too fat and the batter was on the heavy side (chunks of fried batter when you bite into it).

They kept the door open, and the smoke from the smokers outside would always flow in.

God I love Verde. So much that the people who work there know what I want before I even ask. Here are some highlights:

    - drinks made when you order, instead of being scooped out of a pre-made vat
    - fun people watching
    - yummy yummy yam fries
    - chunky, chewy aloe
    - a more upbeat/bright post-dinner hang out
    - a younger crowd than Fantasia and a less suburban "thug" wannabe crowd than Tapioca Express

Although I do miss the Asian music videos they used to play, Verde is still my fave when it comes to pearl milk tea. Mmm frothy.

Verde means green. So I got a honeydew milk tea sans bubbles here at Verde.

And tasted my coworker's regular milk tea for the first time. Wow it almost tastes like sweet spring flowers.

Me likey Verde's regular milk tea better than honeydew, shockingly enough. The honeydew here is too mild and unsweet. And I often think other places are TOO sweet, but this was just like drinking lightly flavored melon milk...not doing it for me.

Next time I'll get the regular milk tea sans the verde.

Bonus...they said their milk is nonfat. Not sure if I entirely believe them but it makes justification an even more beautiful thing 'knowing' that.

The drinks are quite good, but the crowd is HELLA ghetto.
Smoking Taiwanese slash fob-wannabe ABC kids
and a lot of ugly asian frequenters...
Today was my second time visiting this place, and I think that's plenty enough times to witness seeing the young ghetto crowd
People come here to "study", people come here in retarded looking outfits and sunglasses acting like they're walking on the Taiwan version of the red carpet
    It's a BUBBLE TEA restaurant!!

I see a lot of girls with too much make-up, and I believe about 80% of the customers smoke... and it is so unattractive seeing these uggo hag-looking kids smoke...
Uhm.. which is why I quit or else I sound like a hypocrite.

Anyway.  I like the bubbles here.  The cups are pretty fair-sized too.  Hella asian interior...

Had a craving for pearl milk tea and happened to pass by Verde. Cute colorful place but the green milk tea with pearls was pretty lame - couldn't taste any tea at all and felt I was just drinking frothy and milky liquid with sugary taste. Tapioca balls were not bad.

2 stars for the drink + 1 star for free wireless - 1 star for the toilet in the bathroom that has a broken lever and has a sigh that says push the white button inside the open toilet tank to flush. Ew. Can we say health violation?

Bottom line: Maybe their other drinks and snacks are better, but the green milk tea with pearls didn't do it for me. Serves me right for being disloyal to Fantasia.

Verde is closing in Cupertino at the end of this month (September) due to lease renewal issues, meh! Me thinks the reason is more because the company next door complains too much to management about their parking space being overrun by Verde customers, I wonder how this plaza will even get any business once Verde is gone... anyways I digress.

Although I don't come here often normally, this past month I've been coming a lot more since Cupertino will soon no longer have a frothy sweet milk tea place to go to. Mountain View & Fremont are too far to normally drive  for lazy "tino" bubble people and I'm no exception.

Recent favorite food item besides the salty chicken would be the chicken cutlet. Yum.

Don't go! Move elsewhere in Cupertino instead geniuses.

I came here with high hopes. "Best tea ever!" proclaimed my acquaintance. I stood in line for ages, waiting in anticipation for my Melon Milk Tea with Pearls. The drinks sure looked good, tall and frothy on the top, with little dome-shaped covers.
Finally, I got my brightly-colored tea (bad sign) and sat down with a few copies of US Weekly which were lying around on a shelf. I slurped...and was overcome with a nauseating sweetness. I was sorely disappointed.
I came up with a plan--I would try to slurp up all the pearls (they were decent) and avoid the tea. This did not work. I somehow drank it all, and left the store unfulfilled, with $3.50 gone from my pocket, feeling fat and sick from all the sugar, and sorry that I did not go to Q-cup instead.

Edit: Due to parking issues, this location is moving!  I don't know when or where though (I did hear something about near Elephant Bar?).. sad!!!  In the meantime if I want Verde, I'll go to the Mountain View one.  Tastes just as good, but since this is the one I was introduced to first, I feel nostalgic about it leaving :(

    -------------------------------------------------- --------

I love this place!  I make my late night bubble tea craving runs here and it definitely hits the spot.

I like the frothiness of the milk tea and the flavor so much that I think I've had it at least once every 2 days.. the tapioca balls are a good texture.. a good amount of soft and chewy but not just mush.. and they're pretty sweet too, which I like.

I used to only get the regular milk tea (once I like something, I stick with it), but my late night bubble tea buddy tried lots of different flavors and we discovered the earl grey milk tea.  It's a bit sweeter than the regular one which I like and now it's my new favorite.

According to my friends, the other flavored milk teas might not be worth it (the taro milk tea apparently tastes disgusting).  I've had the strawberry freeze before and it's only decent.  I would stick with the regular milk tea types.. they never seem to disappoint!

    CLOSED.

I am very sad that this place closed. This is terrible! As with many reviewers have said, this was one of my favorite, perhaps THE favorite, milk tea spot in the Bay Area.

This place always had a huge menu, extensive variety, friendly staff, and great snacks/food. They also had "happy hour" items during certain times of the day as well as buy one get one free coupons that you can get if you order more than 3 drinks at a time such as with your friends etc.

Unfortunately, the reason this place closed down and will NOT be returning is that the residents atop of the businesses where Verde Tea Cafe used to be are VERY picky and do not like ANY noise whatsoever. However, this Tea Cafe generated so much business that they did have  tons of people around even at the late hours of 11:00 PM or 12:00 AM when they closed. The residents could not take this and called the Sheriff department several times to complain about noise of people simply talking in the parking lot and not shouting or making a ruckus.

Verde Tea Cafe could not renew their lease for the new year due to complaints of the tenants and thus closed down permanently. I hope that the tenants find it far less convenient to live where they are now that this has occurred and set a precedence for future businesses to close when they live in the complex knowing that there would be businesses in the front.

Pretty big selection of drinks, reasonable prices, and the hot milk tea was quite tasty. The place is pretty small but cute, and you get blasted by a strong smell of fried food when you walk in.

I wonder what the heavy brick, QQ, and other interesting add-ons on their menu are.

I love to people watch here.  They have the best green tea with Aloe (yes! they serve aloe! mmm, and its the huge chunks that you can actually get a good bite into).

Aside from that drink, all milky drinks are far superior to the rest because of the way they froth the drinks up.  They have a machine shaker to make the full frothiness of the drink a great experience.

Yeah, the tea's good.  The chocolate toast is good.  The fried chicken is good.

Here's what really stands out about Cupertino Verde though:
    - The fobby Chinese music videos that loop on the flat panel TV.
    - Plenty of seating and tables.  I've played cards here with friends countless times and never had a problem getting a table.
    - Teenagers who are always smoking a chimney right outside the door despite the paper sign telling them to clean up after themselves and to go away.  Lovely second-hand smoke if you sit too near the door.
    - Attractive patrons.  I feel bad coming sometimes, knowing I'm bringing down the average.
    - Single, unisex bathroom.
    - They close at 11 (sad).
    - Buy-one-get-one-free coupon if you spend $5.  So if you have a large group, combine two people's orders to get the coupon.  Then only one person in the next pair has to pay.
    - Free wifi.  I once sat here for 6 hours doing work.  FYI, the music loops and repeats itself every hour or so (devastating).

In short, a fun place to hang out.

My favorite bubble tea place by far.  The tapioca balls are consistently chewy which is the most important attribute in my opinion.

I always get the green tea with two scoops of tapioca.  The green tea is just there to make the tapioca inhalation process smoother.

Price is reasonable and I've been there so often that I don't even have to mention my order...  What more can you ask for.

*sigh* I'm torn because this is the closest place to get a pearl milk tea, hot taro milk tea, or peach tea with coconut jelly (yum!), but:
    1. The store is always packed with people "studying", but the music inside is way too loud to even hear yourself think
    2. The store is DIRTY - the tables, floor, and oh my god, don't get me started on the bathroom...
    3. One time, I saw a girl with her dog ON THE TABLE and the whole 10 minutes I was waiting, no one said anything to her
    4. Their pearl milk tea has gone down in taste, but up in price over the past year or so. I think a pearl milk tea (only comes in one size) is $2.98 now.
    5. The outside patio has a sign that says it's "closed due to excess noise", but there are always people out there smoking and littering, even at closing hours

Okay, so maybe I won't be going back to Verde anytime soon. Thank goodness Quickly opened nearby. I'd take their busy, high-school student cramped store over Verde any day.

I was never an Asian-drinks-Tapioca-and-the-like kind of girl. I always stuck to Starbucks and Pete's, but my friends are slowly trying to convert me into the art Teaism.

My friend Karen and I usually frequent Verde despite our experiences because we need the food. Coming out of work, we just order tofu (always for me) and chicken (always for her). At what I get for my tofu, I consider the price ($2.75) expensive for the 5 tiny squares and delicious ginger sauce.

The food is alright, I just can't stand the atmosphere. The wait staff was not courteous and aware of their guest's needs AT all. One guy could barely speak English and had a hard time hearing our order, but immediately knew what to get once we started pointing. I don't blame them of rudeness though -- I think they're trying. It's not that they're deliberately being rude, which makes this review a bit hard to write.

S: Can I have some rice with the tofu?
    Guy: No. (blinks)
    S: Wait, why?
    Guy: No, can't. (blinks)

    Two minutes later.
Guy: Sorry. (picks at his shirt and looks at us awkwardly)

Funny enough, I actually prefer this one to the one in Mountain View.  My how things have changed.  I think it all had to do with the renovation.

Definitely more of a high school crowd here, but on a Sunday afternoon it was tolerable.  Free wi-fi with little fuss and the drinks were pretty much ok.  The cup size is BIGGER than the Verde in Mt. View.  WTF is up with that?  AND they give out coupons for buy one get one free and can ONLY be used at this location.  Again, WTF?

I wish they had more flavors of drinks.  Tea Era is still number 1 in that respect for me.  Anyway, it's nice to come here when you want to catch a movie at the AMC in Vallco/Cupertino Square.

Oh, and why are so many teenagers smoking now?  It's not cool, guys.  It just makes you smell bad and pollute the communal air which makes you an asshole.

+ Green Apple, Peach Icy is awesome here.
+ coupons (if you spend over $5, you get bogo free drink next time. but it expires way too soon!)

    - fried chicken is old, greasy and stinky. had to throw this one out
    - toast is too thick and just bland.
    - the new parking situation.. you can't park in the big lot anymore!!
    - service could be better..

It's a boba place, so it's your standard fare.  They got a flat screen TV on the side that you can watch cheesy Chinese movies or Chinese music videos with favorites like Jay Chou or Jolin Tsai being played.  Which you can't hear the audio because Chinese pop music is constantly playing in the background.  They also got a Chinese checkers set on this tiny shelf near the entrance if you feel like playing.  They got Wi-Fi here if you think this is a desirable place to surf the web.  And a lot of Chinese youngsters/hipsters here.

The drinks here start at $2.75 and I tend to go with the Pearl Milk Tea or Green Tea nearly every time I do go here.  I think this is actually one of the very few boba places where I can actually tell a difference with quality.  Their milk tea is definitely frothier than other places and I do like that, but the quality of the pearls can be inconsistent at times.  Where you might get it soft and chewy and if you're unlucky a little harder than the norm.

It's one of the few hang out spots that I go to with a couple of buddies and they usually have some seating around either inside or outside, so it makes for a good, chill, conversation destination.

They did a good job with a lot of places to sit down and great parking in the back.  If you like people, you'll like it here.

I had a standard pearl milk tea, but it's way too sweet.  They had a lot of things to try though, maybe next time I'll try their shaved ice.

3/5 because it's very lively and very popular, but definitely had better pearl tea else where.

This is one of my favorite boba places in the bay area.  The regular milk tea with tapioca is my favorite drink here.  The portions are generous, but sometimes the drinks are too creamy and you're left with a lot of foam on the bottom when you finish. :( The food at this location isn't anything special, so I'd recommend going just for the milk tea.

Accepts credit cards over some minimum charge (basically you'd need to buy more than one drink)

Not the best, not the worst.
Their milk tea pales in comparison to the original Verde in Mountain View, and the girls at the register almost always have an attitude.  Plus, they use fake pudding in the pudding milk tea. That does not make me happy.
The smoothies and other specialties aren't bad though.
One of my friends always gets the Royal Tea (or something like that, I can't remember the exact name) which is hot milk tea with a shot of cheap brandy, which amuses me. And it's surprisingly not bad.

THANK GOD THIS PLACE CLOSED DOWN, because it was soo unsanitary... okay let me start off with some good comments..

So I've heard wonderful things about this place, so i decided to check it out... hmm.. not sure what to get so I get rose green milk tea. and I loved it. It was full of flavor, and a really nice light pink color. i usually love rose ice cream (from hello desserts, its the only place i can get it) but that's the kind of thing you have to really try to taste it to appreciate it because most of my friends think it just taste like vanilla. haha.

Anyways, so it's lunch time and I'm hungry so i decide to get curry chicken on rice.. and ..

THERE WAS A GOD DAMN PUBE IN THERE, omg it was disgusting... just floating in the curry.. totally ruined my experience.. I don't know what the hell goes on back there, if they're just like scratching themselves or whatever.. but ergh. I cringe from the thought of it.

The Buy One Get One Free coupons keeps us coming back.  Green Tea is yummy but wish it wasn't so frothy.   But overall the tea and tapioca balls have been consistently tasty and price is decent.

It's open late and very popular amongst the high school kids which is why it's usually packed on Fri and Sat nights.

What I like about their drinks are the "Asiany" flavors like honeydew and strawberry that are milky and tasty, but I don't recommend it for the hardcore tea lovers as the flavors are made for younger tastes. They have a great selection of snacks and a flatscreen mounted on the wall to keep you occupied. I've noticed that the Chinese music videos they play are of bad quality and sometimes annoying.

This location is fairly busy and popular with the younger crowd as it is affordable. I recommend the honeydew milk tea... mmm.

Posted this accidentally on the MV location before, not on the Cupertino location where it belongs:

I went once for the wireless and got a decent milk tea.  Then I went back a few weeks later because it was late and I felt like a mocha but didn't feel like driving out to Coffee Society, which turned out to be a terrible idea.  Seriously one of the worst beverages I have ever had in my life.  I'm not sure what was wrong with it, but I suspect the coffee was very badly burnt, or perhaps wasn't coffee but sludge, whatever kind of chocolate syrup they put in it was not related to chocolate at all, and the spoon they used to stir it was definitely dirty.  I tossed it out after one sip.  Blech!  Guess that teaches me to order a mocha at a milk tea place.  Oh well, it seems to be popular among the local Asian-American college student population anyway...

I like pudding milk tea better than the regular pearl fare and of all places, Verde's pudding milk tea is the BEST! Pudding consistency just right and sweetness just right. Yuuuum. And now that I'm not in the area, I constantly think of it's yummy goodness.

Also, I dunno if this is seasonal but at least in the summers, they have these crazy mango concotions (very good, esp if you love mango like me) and ROSE drinks! It's like a root beer float but rose flavored instead. If i remember right..it's like romance drink or something. But yah, big fan of that rose drink. I'm so excited to come back home this week and frequent Verde!

Decided to stop by Verde as my buddy wanted a drink here...

This place is interesting..as you walk in, I can never stop noticing the grime on their windows... Look at the windows from the outside...it looks like it's all smokey...okay just had to get that off my mind..

When this place first opened, they were open late...then now they close early ? 11 pm??

When we came today, they took away the chairs from the patio outside...wtf?

The drinks are um a little too big for my tastes...I mean the standard size at Lollicup/Quickly/Tap Ex contains ~65g of sugar...so the super size that Verde has maybe 100+ g of sugar??

Less sugar for me ...always...and more ice too! Isn't a lukewarm cup of Boba nasty? ...yah

and Jose who was working today...there's a nasty sweat stain on his back...eeghh

Came here with a friend for the first time, didn't know what to order but stuck to the good ol' blended drink with pearls. As well, as a side of fried cuttlefish balls with sweet potato fries.

Service was alright and there was plenty of seating when I went. There was also magazines available for you.

I'd like to go back and try other things.

This places make very good drinks and the prices are lower than other boba places in the south bay.  I like their taiwan toasts too! It's yummmy...aside from the lower price, you also get a taller/bigger cup of drink so it's a win-win!!!

I have not tried their food yet but I want to try their squid next time...yummmmy

I used to dig this place.  It was my standard place to get a boba drink on a hot day with my sister.  We both enjoyed the foamy goodness that floated at the top of our drinks and I appreciated that the pearls weren't overcooked and mushy.

The last time I came here, I was appalled.  There were hardly any places to sit, the music was blaring incredibly loud, and there were two groups of man-children huddled around their laptops playing WOW (that's World of Warcraft for all you non-nerdy types) for what looked like hours.  Dare I even say it... a few of them resembled an Asian version of Cartman in that South Park episode where they get addicted to WOW.

The drinks were still good, fortunately, but when there's nowhere to sit and enjoy the drink... well... it kinda takes some of the joy out of it.  Unless you like standing around watching someone else's WOW game.  Then, maybe you'll be okay here.

Sorry to bring down the ratings of Verde, but I've never had a great experience here.   I don't think their bobas, are whatever they used to prepare their drinks are very clean, since i have to visit the restroom after drinking their beverages.

There usually isn't enough chairs, if you happen to go with a large group.  There usually  is a long line on Sunday afternoons.

I'd prefer to go to tap express (next to marina)or Quickly inside Oak's (next to Jamba juice).

The drinks here are pretty good...

Sure there is a pearl tea shop in like every corner in Cupertino, ever since the pmt fad started...  But this one has the best drinks.

I don't come here much since froyo started poping up everywhere but I still come back once in a while for their taro freeze.  I tried all of their freeze and they are all pretty good.

    Taro freeze- the bomb

    Hazelnut milk tea- really good

    Thai Ice tea here... nasty

food isn't that great, salty fired chicken is just greasy, no basil in it like q cup, but the drinks are the best here in my opinion.

P.S. There is really annoying fobby music videos and shady fobby crowds here all the time, kinda annoying.  4 stars for drinks, 3 stars over all.

A good, pretty decent tea place. Their drinks are pretty good, and I love the froth of their milk tea drinks. Instead of tapioca pearls, I like to get the dark brick (coffee jelly) with milk teas and coconut jelly with non-milk teas.

The pudding milk tea is highly recommended by me! Get dark brick instead of tapioca pearls, and everything just tastes wonderful! The pudding is perfect!

I keep coming back here because of the Buy One Get One Free coupons they give out. Good drinks at a good price.
