The Venetian Pool is definitely a wonderful gem of Miami.  It's a unique public swimming pool, built out of a natural quarry.  Be sure to bring a map with you because it's practically hidden among the homes and placed right in the middle of Coral Gables' most attractive neighborhood.

There's cascading waterfalls, a sandy plot to place your towels or picnic blanket, coral rock caves, and an observation tower.

You have definitely never seen a public pool like this before.  It's shape is unorthodox as well.  It's not symmetrical.  It actually looks more like a lagoon.  Something out of Disneyland only more realistic.  Bring a sack lunch w/you, some towels, sun block, and something to drink.  But leave the glass containers at home.

Last one in is a rotten egg!!

Dear Venetian Pool,

How do I even begin to write?!

A-MA-ZING doesn't get any more amazing than this.  So now, a little history...

Venetian Pool was originally a rock pit that was used for its limestone in building what is now Coral Gables.  A vision of George Merrick, the founder, Venetian Pool, finally completed in 1924, is the only pool in the US that is listed a Registered Historical Landmark.

The water that flows throughout your is always fresh, changed daily in the summer, coming from the Biscayne Aquifer that runs underneath Miami (and is Miami's water supply), and is naturally very cold.  It's just absolutely so refreshing on a hot summer day!!  This really is a piece of pure paradise in the heart of Coral Gables.

The bf and I were here this past Sunday and really enjoyed ourselves!  It had been AGES since I'd been here.  At least 10 years (high school was probably the last time I had been here)...  And nothing has changed a bit.  :)

I had heard that there were renovations done just prior to the pool opening for Memorial Day, but I didn't notice anything changed.  I mean it literally looked the same since I was first there as a child, and we're talking easily 20 years.  But that's your true BEAUTY.  It's the same as it was in all of its prestige and beauty and grace.  It's the same decadent structure that George Merrick envisioned and created just over 85 years ago.

There were a lot of people for a Sunday afternoon, which was nice to see.  There's a cafe on property, but people are allowed to bring their own snacks.  Just NO glass, alcohol or coolers (but you can bring a lunch box?).  I saw people there that obviously knew what they were doing and must have been regulars too...  They had beach chairs, changes of clothes, goggles, masks, floaties, etc., and were all setup on the little island.  (Note to self: bring your own beach chairs, get there early, camp out on island.  Check.)

This is an extremely relaxing way to spend any day in Miami.  I highly recommend to anyone reading this that if you've never had the pleasure of walking through the iron gates and stepping into the blue lagoon, that you do not pass go, do not collect $200 and head directly there IMMEDIATELY!  :)

Venetian Pool, I just may be renting you out soon...  I got some tricks up my sleeve.

With Love and Nostalgia,
SabrinaAnna*

The Venetian Pool is an excellent place to go and relax. This little tucked away oasis is so close..yet I had never been to before...I know I know.....shame on me.
The waterfalls and hidden caves are excellent to just take it easy and have a good time.
I loved the fact that the water was cold, excellent combination for our hot weather. Everyone seemed to be in a stress-free mood and I loved it!.
If you plan to go, get there early and don't  forget to bring the basics..towels, water and sunblock.
I wasn't able to enjoy the cafe but, it's there in case you get hungry and don't feel like leaving this fabulous oasis behind.

Surreal! What a cute place!

Next door to the Biltmore, the Venetian Pool is a little havre de paix! The coolness of the place is dumbfounding

I went there at opening time on a Sunday morning and quickly enjoyed the freshness of the cool water, and relaxed under the waterfalls and caves that shade you from the sun.
I had a marvelous time!
This place is so much fun. They have birthday parties, safety trainings and there's a little food shop at the entrance.
You have lockers for the day and chairs for rent, but the beach (small sand area) is free and you can leave your stuff there.
The entrance price is a bit excessive: 10.50 dollars but once you get there you stay all day and can actually leave and come back with the receipt in the afternoon if you need to eat outside.

Totally a great place to take your friends and family.

Venetian pool is a treasure in the Gables. It is a marvel to enjoy, especially in our hot climate. It is a lot of fun, and the water is gorgeous. It is a freshwater pool, and is very refreshing.

The scenery and lush tropical plants are a must-see!

Beautiful, gorgeous, fun! A must-visit if you love water. This is fresh, natural filtered water, not eye-stinging chlorinated typical public pool water. Be aware, however, that it may not be warm enough for some people. My partner does not swim in cold water and it was too cold for him. (We went in winter.) I didn't mind the temperature; it just felt so damned good! but the setting alone is so beautiful it is worth a visit even without swimming. When we were there, photography shoots were in progress for weddings. Go when it's super hot outside for the best temperature of water if you plan to swim. The caves and waterfalls make it an unusual swimming experience. My partner took lots of pictures of me and those are my fave swimsuit pics of myself not only because of the picturesque backgrounds, but because I was so thoroughly happy!

The pool is closed until April 2009, but I'm sure the renovations they're doing will make it worth the wait!

On our around the state of FL honeymoon, hubs and I made it a point to go to the Venetian Pool. Such a relaxing, beautiful sanctuary. If I lived in this area, I'd go here all the time. It was drizzling out so we had the pool all to ourselves and I remember it being rather magical...especially in the cave. ; )

Ahhh, newlyweds.

An amazing pool with a history as worthy as the splash.  It's gigantic.  The perimeter is filled with sand making it seem like a beach resort.  There are caves you can swim in and waterfalls everywhere.  There are lockers so you can keep your valuables safe.  This place has been here forever and survived Hurricane Andrew in 1992.  It hasn't changed much since then but still offers great aquatic fun.

The only pool on the National Register of Historic Places makes it worth seeing. Its actually really beautiful and tropical (great place for a wedding), but not as dramatic or large as Barton Springs in Austin, TX. Sorry.

This place is amazing.  It's huge, beautiful, and amazing.  There is a ton of space to swim, including caves and a waterfall.  There is an island and a beach area to lay out and a cafe with food and drinks.  I recomend it to anyone visiting Miami.  It's the best.
