Guilt Free Happy Hour in San Clemente -
Fridays from 3-6 this charming and clean yogurt store offers a 50% discount on their delicious flavors. Great combination of tart and sweet choices. No after-taste. Biodegradable containers and spoons. Friendly service.
They need to offer happy hour more often for this place. It's just a bit too pricey for me for what it is. I feel that we might be paying for the overhead a little bit here.
That being said, the yogurt is great and the toppings are fresh, the only reason I am giving it three stars is the price. I'm biased because of Studio Yogurt in Studio City and Yogurtland, which are both cheaper.
The yogurt and topping areas get a little messy too.
My boyfriend loves this place, I think it's good, but not five stars, maybe like a solid 3.5.
With tart frozen yogurt being all the rage, downtown San Clemente has its very own. I love this place because it offers more than just tart yogurt, it has many sweet flavored offerings, too.
It's a self-serve place, so use caution (only if you want to), since you pay by the ounce. They only provide gigantic cups because like most Americans, they are relying on the consumer to super-size just because it's there. The price is fairly resonable, though, so I get just a little when I've been bad, and fill it up when I want to be even badder. It's yogurt, after all.
They offer fresh fruit toppings, all the regulars lilke chocolate chip & crushed candy bars, and mochi bits! Hooray!
Such a fun place to go and grab frozen yogurt. They make a red velvet flavor and I have not seen that at any other yogurt shop. I love the concept of making your own yogurt and getting as many flavors and toppings as you want and at all the right proportions. Definitely recommend this place!
This is what San Clemente needed! Its healthy and yummy! They have a great selection and the yogurt tasted great. They also have a nice little sweets bar for goodies to mix in...which I love! I really hope this place sticks around, its a gem!
Every time we're in San Clemente I have to stop in. What I like about Velvet Yogurt is the cleanliness & the friendly employees.
Favorite flavor combo is their vanilla mixed with raspberry pomegranate topped with fresh berries. Yum!
I've been back about 5 times since the last review. And I've learned a few things.
First: If you guess the price of your yogurt (before it is weighed, of course) its freaking FREE!!!! I was within 2 cents last time, and my friend Dewey was within 4 cents. I vow to do it at least once.
Not only that, but if you don't get a topping, it is 20% off.
This is officially the first self serve place to get 5 stars from me. The girls behind the counter are still great. Keep greeting me as I come in, ladies! This is why I keep coming back. You guys are WAY better than the other bored yogurt attendants.

What is left to say?
I DO feel as though I spent a little too much here compared to the other clones… Read more »
YUM!!!!! Self serve frozen yogurt- at least 8 flavors for 39 cents an ounce!
I had peanut butter and cheesecake, topped with some sugar cone crumbles and peanut butter cup.
I'm not a follower of the fro-yo movement. The sour-tasting yogurt from Pinkberry, Red Mango, Swirls, etc. etc. etc. make me pucker violently. Velvet Yogurt, on the other hand, is yogurt-tastic.
I had heard great things about the place, and was strongly encouraged by Ms. Aimee G. ; ) to check it out. Glad we did! The self-serve aspect of it was great. I could choose exactly how much of each of the many healthy(er) yogurt flavors I wanted, and could handle it myself, without worry of catching swine flu from the typical borderline unhygienic worker at those types of places (not there!).
They offer two sizes of bowls, though the yogurt and toppings are weighed and charged per the ounce. I had a small bit of the Heath Toffee yogurt topped with chopped Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (healthy, huh?). My husband went hog-wild (or should I say, "swine-wild"), filling an entire bowl with Irish Mint and Cheesecake - both nonfat - topped with gummy bears, waffle cone flakes and sprinkles (good thing he works out!).
We'll have to go back during their "Happy Hour," 3-5 PM, M-F, as the pounds of yogurt we purchased got a little $$.
I hit Velvet Yogurt whenever I can get away from the office. Smooth texture, not at all icey...just the way I like it. Friendly and attentive employees make you want to come back. Get a punchcard for discounts and visit Friday afternoons for 50% off!
Upfront disclaimer: Although I am friends with the lovely owners of Velvet Yogurt, this is still a genuine and authentic review. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have reviewed it at all!
Yea, yea, I know what you're thinking...another fro-yo shop?!? Does OC really need another one? YES!!! Because, this is not your average frozen yogurt shop. Velvet Yogurt just opened in San Clemente on July 3rd to crowds of people lining up to taste all-natural, self-serve frozen-yogurt. I was one of them. I was so impressed with Velvet Yogurt, not only because the fro-yo is unbelievably tasty, but it's non-fat or low-fat, all-natural, and pro-biotic with live and active cultures. Other popular fro-yo shops that shall remain nameless claim to have live and active cultures, but don't. Velvet Yogurt truly does. The toppings are also delicious and healthy, including organic fresh fruit and nuts. Unlike other local fro-yo, this place really is good for you!
As for the flavors, Velvet Yogurt has a wide variety like cheesecake (my favorite!), Irish mint, cappuccino, Acai tart, boysenberry, peanut butter, and cookies and cream. The shop is self-serve, which means you get to make your own fro-yo creation and they simply charge you by the ounce.
Lastly, the owners of Velvet Yogurt are not only health-conscious, but they are environmentally proactive as well. All the cups and utensils are biodegradable and compostable. Everything is made with recycled products and the spoons are made from corn starch.
If you're in the San Clemente area, make sure to head over to Velvet Yogurt for a healthy and tasty treat!
Finally a frozen yogurt "salad bar" in San Clemente! Located in close proximity of Baskin Robbins, Velvet Yogurt will undoubtedly be giving the 31 flavors franchise a run for their money.
VY offers plenty of yogurt flavors to choose from and a variety of fresh fruits available for toppings. My only negative is that I didn't see cookie dough as an optional topping. Maybe I should be thanking Velvet Yogurt for this as now I opt for a much healthier selection.
Thank you THANK you for opening in San Clemente!
I try to make it over to Velvet Yogurt on Fridays between 3 and 6 pm for their amazing 50% off Happy Hour. Definitely try the cheesecake, cookies and cream, blueberry- skip the acai (always watery and runny). I love that all of the containers and spoons are biodegradable and that VY promotes enviormental awareness.
this is a copy of the Yogurtland chain, but this place uses 100% biodegradable products, so that's great.
when we were here, they played about 5 coldplay songs. K said that the last time she was here, they were playing coldplay too.
i had the pumpkin, euro tart and acai tart flavors. i usually don't do toppings but today i had some mochi.
i think they need to make the machines colder because they were a bit on the runny side.
overall pretty good for san clemente!
see pics!
