It's just another sports bar with lots of flat screens, friendly waitresses and greasy food that's mediocre at best.  But they should get credit for having a NON-SMOKING policy.  That's really hard to come around in NoVA before December.

Happy hour $3 pints before 8pm.  Some booths have private TVs.  There's a patio area where you can smoke.

We've been here a few times (hoping that perhaps it was just a bad day/server?) but it's always had horrible service.  Not exactly a "happy" hour if my co-workers were sitting AT the bar and didn't get any service for about 20 minutes.

My co-workers & I have agreed to stop going there.

I went here last night with the my buddies to watch the UFC fight. They charged a 5 dollar cover which is standard. This place is my new alternative to Baileys to watch fights. There are flat screens in every angle of the restaurant so you always have a good seat.

I stuck to beer and they had my favorite one on tap, Stella, but they served it in a plastic pint "glass". The layout is such that sit down tables and booths are in the front and the traditional bar (it's smallish) was in the back.  I was hungry so I ordered the French Dip sandwich. It came out quick and the first thing I noticed was the bread. It looked like the oblong hamburger buns from Lindy's Red Lion (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). The prime rib was thin slices that were cooked well done but it wasn't dry. The horse radish was on the side and had a more liquidy texture than the horseradish sauces I'm used to. The real disappointment was the jus. When I reviewed Annie's Paramount Steakhouse I mentioned jus was simple to make (http://www.yelp.com/us...). I am not backing out of the statement but I just want to emphasize how they made an easy thing hard. The jus looked like gravy. It wasn't thick like gravy but you can tell it wasn't all beef drippings which good jus is made of almost exclusively. I think it had too much corn starch in it.  I wouldn't order this again. On the other hand, my friend ordered some blue cheese chicken wings and they looked amazing but I didn't try one. They were big juicy wings and they had blue cheese crumbled on top melting. I'm going to order that next time.

They have a big patio area with another bar area and more flat screens. This in essence doubles their capacity (weather permitting but there is a roof over the patio). Velocity Five is your typical sports bar with lots of flat screens and cute hostesses.  It's a welcome alternative to the other sports bars in the area. Anyone want to catch UFC 103 here?

Waitresses are not friendly, food is mediocre, and it is difficult to get drinks, to put it kindly.

The waitress rolled her eyes when I asked for water, flirted with the guys at the table, and the whole place shut down before midnight on a Friday.

In addition a TERRIBLE DJ was playing music by the bar area on a Friday night. The whole place cleared out. He played some of the same songs multiple times and we were only there for a couple hours. I would have left but we were waiting for some straggler friends to arrive.

Anyway, based on the service and friendliness alone, I probably will not go here again. It's convenient and never terribly busy (I wonder why?) but I would rather fight a crowd than go here. Oh, never go on a Friday night if they continue with this awful DJ.

Really doesn't add to the neighborhood. Just another chain with sub-par food. So many better places in the area.

Welcome to the machine.

This is where you go to see and be seen, not watch the game, have a drink and/or have a good time.  It is, however, a great place to crowd together with a bunch of strangers and pretend to be interested in sports.

Weak.

PS: They charged me $18 for a grey goose and soda and insisted that that was the correct price.

It is what it is. An American fare restaurant with TVs and a patio. The food is good for what it is. The Calamari and Buffalo Chicken are excellent. They make their Ranch Dressing from scratch, so overall the food is better than most sports bars (Summers comes to mind, Yuk!). But it's not really a Sports Bar it's a Restaurant with a lot of TVs. If you come to watch a game you can't hear the sound, as they are playing music instead. They have a patio and in good weather it's nice to sit outside and have dinner or just pick on some appetizers with beer. But, go to Baily's or a real sports bar, if you want to watch sports.
Did I mention that it's overpriced?

While I agree that there are a lot of TV's and it should be a good spot to watch a game (plus the indoors is non smoking!) I feel like Velocity 5 is going through some "growing pains" and needs to also figure out what its identity is.

First off the service is TERRIBLE.  The first reviewer said that the wait staff is good looking.  Sadly this appears to be the reason they were hired.  You can go 20 minutes without having anyone come talk to you, or you can have 2 different people come every 5 minutes and completely confuse you on who your waiter actually is.  Then you have about 3 guys at the front who seem to be a mix of club promoter and host.  I'm not actually sure what these guys do except get in the way.

The place acts like it is a classy place, but IT IS A SPORTS BAR.  You expect people to be wearing jerseys and watching games for 2-3 hours.  During that time...they might not want to eat much...they might just want to have 4-5 drinks.  Yet the waitstaff seems to think everyone seated at a table at 10 pm during March Madness should be eating a steak.  If i order a few appetizers and I'm drinking beers...don't come up and ask every 5 minutes if I'd like to order something else.  That won't make your tip BIGGER.

If Velocity 5 went for the "We're the sports bar in Arlington where you can have a good time and not worry about smoke being blown in your face, plus we have metro access so get blitzed...it would be great.  The wings are actually good tasting though be forewarned...$1 per wing and for some reason the math whizzes make it 5 cents cheaper to order 2 orders of 6 instead of a dozen.  Bang up job kids.

I think one day a week they have an "all you can eat Wing Night" for almost $20.  If you're hungry that might be a pretty good deal and a great way to get drunk if you don't have to work the next day.

I'll be back to try it out again and hope they outgrow some of the problems with the wait staff.  Right now...meh.  I've experienced better.

This is actually the type of bar/restaurant that Courthouse needed. If we wanted, we could always walk to one of the cool Clarendon bars. We could go to Four Courts for a good Irish bar. Or to Ragtime for really good bar food and drinks and a crowded young atmosphere. But, there wasn't that good normal sports bar (Don't mention Summers... they need a bit of work.)

The outdoor dining area is nice, even for a group. The bar inside seemed a bit on the small side and there didn't appear to be too much room to just hang out, but I enjoyed it. The one huge downside at the moment is the downright AWFUL service. Others have mentioned it too, and it is extremely noticeable and disappointing. I could even deduct an extra star just for the bad service. Our waiter didn't come outside to our table once to get a beer refill or see how we were doing during our entire meal! Hopefully, the manager will notice how bad it is and fix that aspect of the restaurant.

The only real thing this place has going for it is that it is smoke-free. For that reason alone, until Virginia bans smoking, I will probably be frequenting this place for NFL games in the fall.

The food was certainly overpriced for what it was (I am pretty sure the boneless wings appetizers were bought frozen from Safeway). My french dip was kinda gross - SO greasy/much fat on the beef.

The setup is kind of strange, and unless there is a back room or something - it seems REALLY small and the TVs arent THAT big (but nice and new).

I would suggest Happy Hour only here - not a meal.

Ehhh, this place is pretty effing LAME and OVERPRICED!

Why is the bar area so small?

Why are the chicken wings over a dollar EACH????

Why do they play Lady Gaga during the EFFING GAME????

Are you a sports bar or not?  Talk about an identity crisis.

Court House Plaza location is great.
Location, location, location. Stumbling distance to Court House Metro!

If you read my review of the Falls Church location you got the idea that I enjoy sports....true that. I had out of town guests and we wanted to watch some March Madness, enjoy some good grub, cold brews and big plasmas, bingo! We went to Falls Church Sat and the Arlington location on Sunday.

I live in Chantilly and  think this location is easier to get to. It's just steps  away from the Court House metro. On the weekend you can find FREE
parking in the same lot where they have a small weekend flea market.

You'll cruise past the AMC Theater and a Starbucks...pass Go and you collect  $200!

This place is considerably smaller than the Falls Church location but I like the feel of it. Lot's of glass so it's got more of an open feel to it.

Dark mahogeny, small plasma's in most of the booths, lots of 42 inch plasmas all around.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed some banter with Katherine, she's quite talented and smart. You get a view of four different 42 inch screens so it was great watching the Madness, Tiger @ Bay Hill and NASCAR.

Since we had shrimp, wings, nachos & sushi the previous nite we decided to step it down and go for some peanut sauce wings and the nachos. A great choice, flavorful and tasty and goes well with any of several draft beers. I was quite impressed with the freshness and flavor
of their Guiness, at $5 a pint, a good value.

I had the fish special, it was grilled sword fish, just OK but served with rice pilaf and mixed veggies. At $23 a little pricey for the quality, I've had much better but that's what I get for ordering the Fresh Catch at a Sports Bar. Katherine explained they are still working out the newness since it's only been open about two weeks.

You'll want to go here when the weather warms up. They have a large patio, view to a 52 inch plasma and beer on ice from an outside chest.

If you've had a few, easy stumbling distance to the Metro!

the owner may have deep pockets, but has history taught him nothing?

this location is doomed: formerly, RT's Seafood Kitchen (overrated), Music Box (so forgettable i had to google), and King Street Blues (mediocre).

at least he didn't skimp on the graphic designer who came up with that hotte logo.

I'm currently living in the Clarendon area and will be moving to Courthouse in a week.  I've been trying to audition some bars trying to find a place that I think I can call my own, and lo and behold, I think I've actually found it.

Velocity 5 is, from what I've heard, a chain with other locations in the area, but I've only been to this new location, which has been open since St. Patrick's Day.  I heard that they have been working out some service kinks, but I went there last night to enjoy some March Madness, and I definitely enjoyed it.

We had tons of wings, and undoubtedly enjoyed the Velocity 5 wings most - plan on skipping most of the other ones, although honey and spicy are also good flavors.  I especially did not like the cilantro ones, although I suppose I'm glad I tried out so many flavors.  Thinking back on it, the wings are also extremely expensive - 6.95 for 6....that's more than 1 dollar a wing!

Beer is relatively inexpensive for the area though, 4 dollars a beer on draft.  The waitresses are attractive (if that's your thing), and so are the bartenders.  The mixed drinks are, for the most part, done well though an amaretto sour was mostly sour and not enough amaretto.  The margaritas were delicious though, and at $7 a pop, I suppose that's a good enough deal.

But, you know why you're there, and it's to watch sports.  You can't escape the glory of HD sports, and that's definitely a good thing.  I think the Courthouse/Clarendon area needed something like this (a place other than Mister Day's), and I'll be back.

Terrible service. I sat at the bar outside on the patio for over 25 minutes before the bar tender took my order. The women's bathroom (with signs posted that said "employees must wash hands") didn't have any soap. Later, the outside bar tender disappeared for over 10 minutes....to hang out with her friends in the crowd (who, by the way, always had prompt service). There seemed to be a lot of staff running around without a clear duty...the management appeared aimless and frenzied... and not helpful in solving any problems that came up during the afternoon.

Good location, but woefully overpriced. As mentioned earlier, at $1+ PER wing, I'm thinking you can find someplace else....such at Hard Times to park yourself. I'm pretty indifferent to this place and the food was subpar. Good thing there are other options.

I would say average for a sports bar.  Just had a few drinks here, but I know that Big O and Dukes from 106.7 WJFK FM hold a lot of parties here, so maybe I'll swing by again to check out there food....but then...Ray's is right across the street....tough decision....

Terrible service, mediocre food.  You will be better served drinking at home. Someone will remove items from your table well before anyone checks on you or refills your beverages. We waited 10 minutes at a table in the bar area on a Wednesday night with about 8 others in the bar and still had to serve ourselves from the bar. Probably the one good thing about it is that it is non-smoking but after December that will be moot.  Management and staff seem more concerned with primping and chatting with their friends than serving customers. My wife and I have been here with friends on several occasions and nothing has improved. Wings may be the best thing here but that can be topped at Hard Times.  Move along; nothing to see here.

Lame.  Regular semi-crowded sports bar with a big patio that could be a lot better.  As of now it has a nice bar outside that was not in use and some metal lawn furniture.  We sat outside on a Saturday night and were almost totally alone.  It was nice if you want to talk quietly with someone, but there's no energy here.

Bar prices and food with a nicer looking inside. We tried 5 flavors of wings and only really liked one. Didn't realize there was a cover at night.
