1 check-inVery decent sandwiches, good salads, and nice coffee makes this place a pretty good stop on any lazy weekend afternoon.
Bike racks aplenty, Velo Rouge is decked out in vintage bike memorabilia, sandwiches named after cycling greats and some awesome decor, if you like that kinda thing. I like getting a pint.
Often families in there, but it's roomier than it first appears and the only downside is the sometimes unfriendly staff who never seem to give the happy hour discount unless you ask for it.
That loses you a *. Bastards. -

I ordered the veggie sandwich looking for a fresh, healthy lunch. The sandwich seemed lik everything I would like, but it was just ok. There was too much going on and the veggies we're cut way to large. It came with hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, raw mushroom, and raw onions. I like all of those (except or raw mushrooms) but the large chunks of veggies just made it so every bit was just a different raw veggie rather than a sandwich.
The side salad was great, though. Can't say it was worth the trek from nob hill. -

What a cute little cafe just off Golden Gate Park...with booze! I ride my bike often so I loved the cycling theme. Be mindful it closes early (5pm) a few days of the week, so check the hours before you head out. They run a happy hour from afternoon till close with $3.50 pints and $5 wine, so it's a great place to relax with a drink after a long day. You don't have to go out of your way to visit, but if you're in the area stop in for a bite or beverage.

This cafe is dear to my heart. I used to study here during finals week when I was at USF. The cafe is small, quaint, and laid back. The staff are super friendly and they have such amazing food and coffee! Caffeine kick, right away! I took my bro and cousin for a quick bite before my flight. I got the McCallister scramble while the two of them go the breakfast burritos. Man, breakfast food is just so good! The McCallister scramble consists of an open faced scramble (egg, bell pepper, bacon, cheese, spinach, and potatoes) on an English muffin. It was amazing! The seasoning they use is really good, especially on the potatoes. Yum! I got the caffe latte too which is served with blue bottle coffee!
The cafe is decorated with bicycle theme and it is very cute and really neat how they made some of their furniture from bicycles. Overall, an amazing cafe with such sweet people! -

Stumbled upon this cafe after riding through the park. What a find! Sandwiches were delicious especially the club sandwich. Salad on the side was also fresh and tasty. $3.50 pints at happy hour were a bargain. Look forward to coming again soon!
My recommendation: the club sandwich! Yum! -

1 check-inStopped in to velo rouge for lunch. It's a very cute little corner cafe that has a vintage bicycle theme going on. There isn't much seating but it wasn't too busy when we got there around 1:30pm. They have a happy hour with drink specials from 2pm: discounted pints and house wines. We also saw a sign that promoted live music and movies there on certain nights. We definitely plan to head back and check that out at some point.
They have a great sandwich menu and some good breakfast options. We decided to try something from each menu: the green hornet veggie sandwich and the breakfast burrito. Both were amazing. The sandwich had 3 types of cheese, hummus, beats, sprouts and all the other standard veggies. It was really delicious.
That breakfast burrito tho... Amazing! Definitely the best I've had in a long time. We just got the standard but you can also add meat. I highly recommend ordering it no matter what time of day you stop in. The breakfast menu is served all day so you have no excuse not to try it! -

So if you're down to spend $10 and some change on a breakfast burrito, it may be one of the best you've had. Not to be confused with your greasy local taqueria business, this bfast burrito comes across a little more healthy, but still packs a ton of flavor. They grill the tortilla to perfection, scramble fresh eggs, add black beans, a few potatoes, pico, avo and in my case extra crispy bacon. Definitely a fan, but still on the fence about the price.

I might be slightly obsessed with this place. I love right around the corner and this is my go to happy hour spot. $3.50 pints, $5 wine (big serving) and happy hour lasts all night!
The food is really tasty as well. I almost didn't want to write a review because I don't want people finding out about it! -

1 check-inCute and casual.
The BLT with avocado was so good! It was gigantic as well. Nice service; they try to prepare your drink/coffee first so that you can sip it while waiting for your food. People who live nearby that frequent this cafe are really friendly and add to the nice atmosphere.
The only thing that I didn't like was the lack of seating (this place is poppin' on weekends!). Other than that it's golden. -

1 check-inEverything I could want from a weekend cafe: great food, great coffee, cozy collegiate atmosphere and a varied hot sauce selection.
THE FOOD:
Not a massive menu, but it helps them out plates out quickly. The cafe was pretty full when we got there, but still received our food within 10 minutes of sitting down. Really tasty scrambles with well seasoned home fries.
THE VIBE:
Laid back, full of college students from nearby USF recovering from the night before or studying for the week ahead. Good outdoor seating in a great little neighborhood. -

Delicious breakfast burrito, good coffee, friendly staff and cool bike-friendly atmosphere. Only downside is that they turn off the Wi-Fi when it gets busy to discourage people from working. Will come again, maybe when I'm less busy or they are less busy!

I can only speak for the breakfast burrito. I came in and out with breakfast burritos and took them home.
1. My bf breakfast burrito fell apart. They didn't wrap it correctly with the tortilla.
2.They also didn't put enough foil on it because it was leaking through the brown bag.
3. it was SOOO SPICY. I like to put la vics sauce on it (La Vics from San jose) but it was already so spicy on it's own that I couldn't add to it.
What is good at the breakfast burritos is that they come with real avocados. That is a plus...but I still wouldn't buy them here again. -

I used to live down the street from this place for a year and I came in all the time. the pizzas here are really good if you're in the neighborhood on a week night + they always have two beers on tap and it's a fun place to sit around. they have tons of board games and on the weekends they show Premier League matches (if you're lucky enough to get a seat) - it's busy as ever on the weekends.
pro tip - order ahead, walk over to the Conservatory of Flowers - basque -

Listed in Coffeehouses of San FranciscoI've never eaten in, so I won't comment on their theme (and that probably works in their favor), but my breakfast and sandwich were delicious. I'll have to try more things, and hopefully, Sarah will help me with that come May.

How have I not reviewed this place yet?
The people are super friendly and bright eyed and bushy-tailed even early on weekdays when they open and I need a "real" coffee. They serve Blue Bottle which is awesome and have outdoor seating where there seems to always be a motley crew of dogs + people relaxing.
Great breakfast and you can take out, but beware long lines on weekends to pick up.
Super unique vibe with bicycle-based design everywhere. Seems to be quite the cyclist haven. I'm not adventurous to actually ride a bike in the city, but this is my observation.
Thursdays nights have good local music...beer and pizza and such after 5...I think that's about it. Awesome place. -

My wife and I reenacted one of our first dates which was here. We came for lunch and it was just as we remembered. Very cute cafe with great coffee and food. We the raw veggie sandwich which was good, but I wish I actually chose the one with roasted veggies (next time), the other sandwich was a turkey panini which was off the hook good. The coffee is strong and made to order. The place seems super bike friendly, Thanks Velo.

This was a serendipitous find because the girlfriend's tire was losing air fast. Well, they have free bike pumps outside the cafe! The food inside the cafe itself was great too. We ordered from the counter, and got the food promptly. The sandwiches were particularly appetizing, as was the presentation of the food. Read more10/6/2010 Previous review

I went to Velo Rouge Cafe yesterday to meet up with a friend and catch up.
VRC is one block from Golden Gate Park on Arguello, so it is ideally situated if you want to meet people before going into the park or to meet up before going on a bike ride up the street to the Presidio and beyond.
We bellied up to the counter and perused the tea selection which was all from one brand of teas. Their only exception was one I-R-I-S-H tea. That's rare. I've never seen an Irish tea.
The counter person pointed out that they also sold Irish goodies like candy or other snack at the counter. Okay, personal note to return to try Irish snacks... C ended up trying the Irish tea (a black tea) which he liked. I got an Oolong tea with the cutest name - something like 'Yellow Monkey in a Mellow Mood' - not exactly that phrase really but you get the drift.
We sat and chilled. We caught up. The place was busy but not so busy that the noise level prevented us from talking comfortably. Awesome time at VRC. I'd go back in a heartbeat to enjoy the lovely bike-oriented, woodsy ambiance and a cup of tea. It fits so well in this foggy, cool part of the Ctiy. -

1 check-inThis is my neighborhood place where I go for quick breakfast or a sandwich to bring on a hike.
My favorite breakfast option: McCallister scramble with mushroom, onions, and bacon (without feta cheese). A great mix of flavors to start the day. comfort food.
Favorite take-away sandwich for a hike: roast beef sandwich. It's quite big, so do share it with someone unless you are hiking 5-6 hours straight. It's delicious and the meat is still so flavorful and moist after a couple of hours of drive/hike. Even better with a little bit of wine that one might bring on a hike.
A lot of bikers come through as well as families during the weekend. Avoid the line and get here at 10am on a weekend. The service is not the fastest since they do prepare everything in the back with fresh ingredients for the most part. -

Passed by this place multiple times when going to work and there is always lots of people lined up during lunch time.
Decided to come here one morning with my friends and we got the club sandwich, the tuna melt, breakfast burrito, and most popular breakfast croissant.
We all liked what we got, however the breakfast croissant wasn't all that good, as my friend said. It was really small and wasn't all that good.
All the other food we got was decent portions and it was pretty tasty!-

What a sweet little place! I am a cyclist, so I was attracted to the bicycle theme going on here, and walked through the doors. The first thing that hit me was the bright, authentic smile on the girl at the counter, and she was very helpful explaining my choices. The food was very tasty, well prepared and healthy. I sat at the table made out of a bicycle because it looked like fun, but I suggest more comfortable seating at other tables. As I started to eat, musicians began to set up, and proceeded to play some very nice bluegrass.

Honestly to be 100 percent honest.... I only come here FOR SO MANY THINGSSSS!!
1. Chill vibes, always made to feel welcome
2. Solid staff with some bomb ass dank ass lattes :) (however the latte art... lets just say it could use some work hehe) HOWEVER latte art does not a good latte make
3. Food is yum yum yum, really recommend the breakfast burrito, add extra 'cado because they understandably skimp on it (just a tad)
So to summarize, this place has chill vibes, good coffee, great food, and an even coolier staff. -

Cute airy coffee shop, with a bicycle theme (and actually frequented by a couple bicyclists while I was there enjoying my coffee and reading my NYTimes). Seating could get a bit sparse, but the turnover was good enough on a Sunday afternoon that I was able to snag a seat.
Not that many people doing the laptop camping that plagues many a coffee shop. No complaints about my black drip coffee. All in all, a pleasant place to grab a cup of coffee, enjoy it while people watching and reading the paper, and then moving on with your day. -

I like everything about the place except the fact that I ordered an iced tea - it cost 3 bucks AND came in a tiny glass, maybe 12 ounces at best. Not only do they not offer free refills, they don't even offer discounted refills.
This practice should be illegal!! Some of us rely on a big dose of it to get our day started... -

1 check-inSuch a cute cafe!
It's kind of out of the way if you don't live in the area, but if you are, this is a good place to stop for some breakfast or coffee! I got the breakfast burrito and it was so delicious! The black beans were perfect as well as all the other ingredients. I'm usually not a huge fan of breakfast burritos, but this one changed my mind.
Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. -

1 check-inThe food is great! Always comes out nice and hot and The breakfast burrito is to die for!
The front of the house staff.... Let's just say they could care less about people's morning rush for work. Don't order coffee if you expect it to come out in less than 5 minutes, because you will wait almost 10 for your latte. Also, talking about how hard you plan to party when you get off work while I'm standing in front of you waiting to order isn't professional. I really don't care how drunk you are going to get because you hate your job.... -

1 check-inI came here on a Monday for lunch, and the food was pretty good. We had the Coppi sandwich, which has turkey, spinach, cheese, and cranberry jam and the Ullrich tuna melt, which has tuna, cheese, and mustard. Both sandwiches come with a side salad. I tasted both of the sandwiches and they were both tasty, but there was nothing particularly amazing about either one of them.
The cafe is cute but really small, granted we came at what I am guessing is their peak time right around noon and all the seats were taken. We almost had to take our food to go, but last minute someone left and we got a seat. I will say the staff is super friendly, one of the ladies behind the counter was keeping an eye out and as soon as she noticed someone leaving she asked if we wanted to stay, and immediately cleaned the table for us.
I like that it is close to my job, so I will definitely come again to taste the breakfast items. -
