We first went to the VH in Montclair, and I fell in love! When we moved to Palisades Park, I thought we would just drive to Montclair for our Shabbos dinner (We call it Shabbos dinner cause that's as close as were are getting into a shul).  Then we found out about the one in Teaneck, how thrilled were we? Yippee!

I discovered the "Roasted" Vege Chicken, and sadly (or not), I eat that each time I'm there. I have the appetizer and the meal. (In Montclair, it's the roasted pork.) And of course, the cheesecake! It's just all to die for!

My husband (who is the vegetarian)  usually ventures with some sort of chicken or pork meal that is extremely spicy. He's found his mecca. He ordered the chocolate cake too, he loved it, but I found it a little lacking. I need the real thing.

Why the four stars? Well, I take a star off for our waiter. One particular waiter in Teaneck is not so friendly...He basically throws the plates down then runs away before we could ask for "more water" or chopsticks.
The service in Montclair is way better. Other than that, you'll see us there every Friday!

Food is decent, fresh and you probably can't get better "veggie" food elsewhere. However, in my opinion its all a novelty because there is nothing like the real thing. I understand there really isnt many tasty options for vegetarians and health nuts, so i can see why people give it 5 stars. However, my opinion doesn't take anything into consideration except the quality and portions of food. That leaves the food at average to above average and slightly pricey.

I mean going to hollywood and seeing the Elvis impersonators on the street doing a great impression may impress you and pressure you to give him money and take pictures, but its still not Elvis!!!!!!

So just because its close to the real thing and decent (like most people say) i should give it 5 stars for trying? Think again

Pure Novelty, don't lie to yourself.

Don't expect soy or seitan to taste like meat, and you'll be fine.
Love their buddha's delight platter, and of course the rice creams for dessert.

I went here not so long ago after my bf and I went to see a movie at the independent movie theater nearby ( Cedar Lane Cinemas, the tickets are cheap, I def recommend it)

We were both starving yet it was almost  10 pm and we were in North Jersey, meaning our food choices were very limited. We noticed this place on our way to the movie theater and decided to stop by.

We walked in and after looking at the menu, and noticing that they close at 10, we were afraid that we were going to have to settle for an Applebee's somewhere else (we have been there more times than I would like to admit).

But low and behold, they were nice enough to sit us there, while still letting us know that we had to order soon because the kitchen closes at 10.  Funny enough, about 10-15 mins afterwords, they seated another group and told them the same thing that they told us.

The place is somewhat simple, yet it does resemble a lot of Chinese establishments that I have been to/seen before.

When we sat down, we were brought tea to our table served in small tea kettles. I usually notice these type of small gestures, and appreciate it even if its part of a tradition. After looking at the menu I decided to go with the curry vegetarian chicken while he chose the General Tso's chicken. He also ordered a vegetarian role, and although he meant an egg roll we happened to get some sushi instead.

My dish was pretty good, I have never had vegetarian chinese food before, so this was a pleasant surprise. However, I cant say that it was great either, it tasted nothing like chicken and was a little bland although it was somewhat spicy. The sushi roll was great though. We were way too full to order the desert, although I was looking forward to trying the vegan cheesecake, since I became a big fan of it.

The service was nice, yet I cant judge since it was the end of the day and there weren't that many people there. However, when we were waiting for the check, they seemed to not care at all about "getting rid of us" and took a while to come back to our table.

In general I did like it, but I would have to come back again at a more reasonable time, to get a better impression of the place.

3.5-4

I have been wanting to try this Teaneck location for months now, after reading Dani V's review.  (And hearing about the fact that they offer Sushi, which rocks).

A friend & I headed over on a Thursday evening.  The place was half full.  We walked in, seated after waiting a few minutes for a host/hostess to greet us.  Then, waiting 10 minutes just to be greeted by our server.

The food took forever and the waiter wasn't even that friendly.  He rushed us through our meal :(

The food, however, was excellent, just like the one in Montclair (which is the one I am partial too - but the food is what is getting this location the 3 stars, as opposed to the 2 stars I think that they deserve based on their service).

I love this vegan/kosher place.   I tend to stick with the tofu items but tried the "chicken" the other day and wow.  I think if may have tasted better than real chicken.  Please give this wonderful place a try.

Holy crap. I'm not even vegetarian but eating at this place makes me want to become one.

The food was delicious and even after eating 2 dishes, 1 'sushi' roll, and 2 desserts I didn't have that 'my-arteries-feel-like-they're-clogging-honey-plea se-let's-drive-on-the-route that-takes-us-close-to-the-hospital-just-in-case-f eeling.' This place is so creative with their use of soy products that it astounds me and the fried things tastes so light that I was flabbergasted.

All-in-all, a great place. I will definitely eat here again. My only problem with the place is I found it to be pretty expensive. Jersey needs to get itself more vegetarian places like this.

This place gets five stars for their unique (in these areas anyway) and tasty cuisine.

Their menu reads like any other Chinese food menus we're all used to like "Buddha's Delight" and even "General Tso's Chicken" with the difference being they use 100% vegan and natural ingredients. Signature dishes like the "taro chicken a la king" and "scallion pancakes" are also aplenty and quite honestly one of the best vegetarian cuisine restaurants I've had.

Their menu is also expanding with vegan sushi rolls, vegan burgers and even vegan tex mex dishes! Prices are reasonable with $6 lunch specials and average $13 dinner entrees. My suggestion is to get a bunch of entrees and share over some brown rice so you can have a variety on your plate.

Atmosphere is simple and cozy with booths for parties of 4 and round tables for larger parties similar to every quintessential Chinese restaurant in this country.

Go there and experience what everyone says, "it tastes like chicken!"

This place merits a 5-star rating, but you have to know what to order:  spring rolls, wonton soup, and sesame "chicken."  I eat meat and still think this is my favorite sesame chicken.

The sesame chicken comes in chunk form.  This is important  because their chunk chicken is an excellent imitation of real chicken, but the other types of chicken they serve are not.  For instance, they also serve these little balls of chicken which don't taste good and have a strange texture.  Just stick with the sesame chicken.  It's awesome.  The spring rolls are probably the best I've ever had and the wonton soup is great.

They've also expanded to include sushi and a juice bar, but I haven't tried that stuff yet.

Tip:  Great prices for lunch (and tons of food).

This was my first Veggie experience. and I must say I was a bit weary to give it a try. I had the sesame chicken, the BBQ, and the won ton soup. I was impressed. The taste and the texture are very close to its real counter parts. I would highly recommend this place.

WOW, this place is a great vegie place! can't say much about the non-chinese items, but their chinese selections are delicious. i stuck with non-"meaty" choices, but my lent-observing relatives seemed happy with their pseudo-meat experience. we all universally agreed that the soups/broths were excellent. very well seasoned dishes overall, though one person thought the sesame chicken was a bit too sweet. (but he virtually eliminated sugar from his diet recently.) and unlike other asian restaurants, they have lots of desserts!! i got the cheesecake, and while i haven't had a real cheesecake for nearly 20 years, this one was yummy, mmm mmm mmm!!

they also have several items 'sweetened' with agave nectar instead of sugar, so it's also diabetic-friendly as long as you don't go overboard with white rice or noodles. i do recommend that you have a separate outfit you can wash easily afterwards because our clothes, jackets and my canvas bag smelled like grease.

I am updating my review to reflect that Veggie Heaven seems to have reduced the size of their portions, at least for take-out. It's a reality that many restaurants have to face with the soaring cost of food in recent years, especially wheat and gluten based products which have especially been impacted by the economy. Veggie Heaven, I deduct you no stars and may God have mercy on your soul.

The name says it all....heavenly.  I have been a vegetarian since I was 12 and have always had  such limited selection when eating out, this place has beyond selection and everything is amazing.  I have been going there for over five years and never once had a bad meal, they are consistently great.  My boyfriend goes nuts over their salmon rolls with brown rice, while I love the scallion pancakes but ask for the dumpling sauce instead as the dumpling  sauce will linger on your tastebuds.  The atmosphere and service are not the greatest  but to me it never mattered they are passionate about making amazing healthy food so I could care less if they shoved me and told me i had bad hair...as  long as they never run out of the singapore chow mei fun....mmmm.  It is by far one of my all time favorite places to eat.

Sorry, but this place rocked...I expected it to be good? But it was AWESOME. I dont even LIKE sesame chicken, but here is was amazing. And the tofu platter? Excellant. The Shanghai noodles were so so, a bit too sweet for my liking, but the chicken and tofu were hands down just awesome. Love this place. Will have to pay a weekly visit..."oh darn.."

This is by far my favorite restaurant. I get ancy when I haven't eaten there after a couple of weeks. I live in Manhattan so I don't get to go there as much as I would like and I have not found a restaurant closer to me as good as Veggie Heaven. The service has always been good and for the nearly ten years my family has gone there we've never had a bad experience. The food is always good. Some must haves: The scallion pancakes are to die for! The vegetable lo mein is lo mein at it's best. It's served like it is in Beijing. Thick noodles, little or no oil and lots and lots of vegetables. The sesame chicken is amazing and by far better than most soy mock chicken I've tried in the past. I also love the Chef's special Phoenix dish--a great mix of vegetables and tofu. And it must say something that it was my meat-eating family that introduced me to Veggie Heaven and they swear by this place too! You won't be disappointed. And try to sit by the booth with the Buddha. It's so pretty and my favorite spot.

VH is a Chinese Japanese Vegetarian Kosher restaurant.  I happened to have eaten there just last night and was impressed -- they even give you plastic cups for your wine due to kosher laws.  So if you are kosher you can walk in here and order anything on the menu.
Someone wrote that they passed their heyday, and not having been there it its heyday I can't say if that's true or not but it definitely is not in any kind of heyday now.  The food is just ok.  I had the scallion potato pancakes which were eh, nothing better than elsewhere.  The tofu with black bean sauce -- also eh, not spectacular but not awful either.  The best thing I had was the sugar free green tea sorbet.  VERY GOOD.
The waiter we had was a great guy, with lots of patience.  My one friend was a little tipsy and was unhappy with her first few fortune cookie fortunes and he had to stand there and wait to see if the next one was acceptable.  He actually stood there with a handful of cookies, doling them out to her one at a time.  Granted, her fortunes were so odd and not necessarily happy, and my other friend and i got really kick-a** fortunes.  HA!  Anyway - I think she finally settled on something about a career change or whatever.

Although a little on the expensive side, your mouth will thank you after you take a bite of their vegan sesame chicken.  Everything at Veggie Heaven is vegan and absolutely delicious.  I highly suggest the Crispy Soul Chicken, cucumber rolls with brown rice, pineapple tea, and green tea cake.  That's my meal of choice right there.

Amazing prices, especially for the lunch specials. Really super nice waitstaff. Most importantly, THEIR VEGGIE CHICKEN TASTES BETTER THAN REAL CHICKEN. Hands down, the best vegan chicken I've ever tasted.

GREAT VEGAN FOOD!  This place is delicious and they have a great lunch special menu that I believe is served everyday of the week including weekends (Saturday for sure).  Everything is vegan here including the delicious vegan cakes.  The Green Tea Cake is unusual and delicious at the same time...I'm having a craving for it right now!

Hey, if you live in bergen county, it's hard to find a veggie chinese food place. Veggie Heaven is great! their soups are delish, and their special main dishes are superb. however, it's a bit pricey for what you get. for dessert, hop across the street to bischoffs for some ol' fashioned banana splits!

As everyone has already said, this place is terrific. I would eat there everyday if I lived closer. I love the sushi with brown rice (which I normally don't like elsewhere). And the sesame chicken, shark fin soup (or any soup). And best BEST of all is the curry chicken hot pot/soup. Wow that's great on a cold winter night. I get one and take one home. It's like $7! They have great desserts too.

I'm not Kosher or a vegetarian and I have been electively going to Veggie Heaven for years, since it opened.  I like most of the food on the menu, but I went there last week after not having been there for a few years (I moved to the city and stopped working in Englewood) when I was visiting my parents.  My mother hates it there, and much prefers Taipei Noodle House a few doors down the street.  However, I wanted VH's assorted dumplings and their hot and sour soup, so we went.  She ordered falafel.  I kind of thought she was insane--the last time I ate there, they didn't even have falafel--but she did nonetheless and it was a pathetically small and meager falafel salad with insipid tahini dressing.  The falafel balls were interestingly spiced but rather tough and overcooked.  Shocking, because Mabat, also down the street, is a Kosher Middle Eastern place with killer falafel, and the patrons of Mabat most certainly eat at VH and you would think, would have complained.  My dishes, including the General Tso's Faux Chicken, were divine and exactly as I remembered them.  A great option in the area, not fabulous, but certainly fine.  A pity that the Vietnamese place next door went away, but VH seems to have absorbed the space, so I guess they are doing ok.
