I hate to tell you this, but I'm pretty sure Veggie Castle is out of business.  I've been walking past it on the way to the train for the past couple weeks and it has a "for lease" sign in the window.

It's really disappointing because it was the first restaurant in the area that I've been excited about since I moved here.

this place is really amazing, everything here taste really wonderful, especially the bbq chicken drumsticks, and their patties especially the lentil, chicken, veggie and some other one can't really remember the name oh well in any event haven't been here in a few months but they do have really good food here the location isn't so bad either but if you didn't know anything about this place then you'd probably think that it's just another food joint with nothing special to really offer wrong wrong wrong and so wrong i highly recommend it and remember if you're quite used to this kind of food its always usually best to start off with something and familiar like one of their patties to try and get you in the mood to sample something else a little bit more upscale in terms of this place, one more thins wasn't really gonna give this a 5 because of one guy that serves you, he has a really bad attitude, likes to think that he's the most important individual but however since their food and drinks are so nice i can definitely learn to live with this, no comment on their cakes because i have never tried any before

I used to live down the street and this was a frequent haunt -- for the uninitiated, it's gimic is a former White Castle that kept the plastic seats and tables, but replaced the food with carribbean, vegan cuisine.

Anything Jerk or Curried here is an immediate win, as are the greens.  The quote-unquote-fish dishes are almost too real, and it's a quick jaunt up to Prospect Park with your takeaway (cross the lake from the main entrance, and around the turn, to get to the rolling hills and some nice picnic spots.)

I love the fact that this place exists.  Sticking with the Rastafarian ital vegetarian plan, there's a lot of groundnuts and root veggies here, seriously covered with peppers.  When they mean jerk spices, they aren't kidding.  To the point that the one time I got jerk un-chicken I couldn't eat the rest of my meal where it had touched.  But the portions are immense, the food is comforting and yummy, and I have a serious weakness for the yucca croquettes.  Personally, I'd avoid the spinach since it tasted unflavorful and mushy to me, but to each their own.

If you feel like trying more ital fare, try the mauby drink.  You'll hate and/ or love me for it.  It's a digestive brewed from a bark, sugar and water and used as a digestive aid and system cleanser.  It's sweet and sharp like limeade when you drink it, then stings like nettles right after.  And really becomes addictive.  Your call.

O Delicousness. I really love the "chicken" drumsticks. The steak...whatever it was is really good too. I thought the mac n cheese was a bit dry but my bf tells me thats how its supposed to be and I need to get out of my sheltered un-vegan kraft mentality.

Dont be fooled by the name though. They do offer a burger meal but its nothing like white castle which to be honest, i think we're all better off without it.

The neighborhood is a madhouse if youre driving. Good thing though is veggie castle has its own parking lot. Makes things a lot easier.

Theres also plenty of seating if you're planning on getting your meal to stay.

This USED to be my favorite restaurant in NYC.  Then my Indiana dishwashing money ran out and had to cook for my damn self, but this place is fantastic.

Steam table (with sneezeguard, mind you) of 20-some veggie and vegan hot dishes.  Typically, I choose a medium and get three sides and two proteins - don't worry, sides are on the first half.  Normal fare is several rice dishes, collard greens, steamed pumpkin, spinach, awesome channa curry, and better lo mein than Fongy Rong's on the corner.  Proteins might be jerk tofu, fish sticks, sweet and sour, bbq, a pretty sweet pork roast, drumsticks, and even oxtail (has sugar cane en lieu of bone!).  Typically they throw some fried plantains on top (which are the best I've had in town) and you pay $9 - $11.  The juices are pretty nuts in terms of selection and medicinal value (?) but they're like $4.  Great veggie meal for those who crave something chewy.  Seriously, their mock meats are topshelf.  The baked goods I've had - doubles and veggie beef patties - were ok, but the lunchline really is the moneyshot.

Howevery, all you ass-eating self-righteous vegans out there should know that this hoobie doobie one love reggae-staurant uses more disposable table service than anywhere I've ever been.  Sure, it's animal friendly, but where are those animals gonna live when Veggie Castle cuts down all the forests to make your napkins?   Jah hates litterbugs.

Former White Castle remodeled into a vegetarian/Ital West Indian bakery & cafe. I had a veggie burger & smoothie with all kind of goodness. Wide variety of things here...juice bar, vegan buffet, vitamin shop.
They have 40 different kind of juice smoothies....with properties for everything from menstruation to sexual stamina. The food buffet has 10+ options...I recommend the soy bbq ribs over the jerk tofu.
Excellent option for anyone in BK looking for a filling vegetarian meal.

It's not the most conveniently located, but if you're in the area, definitely check it out! Or take a trip to the nabes, it's worth it!! Veggie Castle is a renovated White Castle with a Caribbean soul-food buffet of meat-free deliciousness!!!! You get to pick selections of buffet offerings that are piled high and gigantic.... then topped with plantains! So good! They change the buffet selections often, and there are tons of choices, I would most definitely suggest the jerk unchicken , the faux ribs, the okra and the curried chickpeas... actually it's all pretty dang delicious!!! The fresh juice bar is fantastic as well, they have a huge listing of ailments and juice combinations to help soothe them. It's pretty great that you can order a 'constipation' or 'impotence' just because you want the taste of carrots, pineapple and wheat grass. The place is phenomenal, and is possibly the biggest reason for me to miss my old neighborhood -- I still take time for bike rides down there from the 'slope, it's a really not that far away. I'm a meat eater and I think their tofu or whatever gluten-type meat substitute they are using is delicious! All the sweet and spicy Caribbean flavor definitely keeps me coming back!
