Vegas is a good place to go if you're already loaded from a book release party. You can be accompanied by other nerds and outdance them. Then you can totally Alpha Male one of them and everyone (but the now dominated nerd) laughs.

I'm not a fan. If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. Oh, I am pretty psyched it went under. There's a positive.

Even though it's one of the slowest weeks in New York -- leading up to Labor Day -- we were surprised how uncrowded Vegas was tonight, a Saturday. Even at 11 p.m., the bar was still relatively spacious and comfortable. We camped out in the front corner, on a comfy booth and throne-like chair, quizzing each other with Trivial Pursuit cards.
I had two pints of Guinness -- at $5 a pop, which is slightly steeper than what I'm used to. And the bartender, Bill, was in a bad mood. They played David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" in its entirety, as well as the Shins' "Chutes Too Narrow," which we got a kick out of. Not sure if the clientele is totally my kind of crowd -- or how I feel about this new breed of oversized bar in Brooklyn -- but I'd return to Vegas.
Worth checking out.

I like the paintings on the walls. Its adds an artful, colorful edge to an otherwise really, really, really dead bar. Its more open space than some of the other bars down the street, but if you want peace and quiet and small talk, its a great place to wind down, or wind up if you're getting ready to bar hop. I like how its across from Bar Tabac, they are totally different and its good to have such variety.

One of the biggest differences I've noticed about Brooklyn bars in comparison to Manhattan bars is that the ones in BK are decidedly more laid back with much less predatory male/female behavior going on. This bar is the ultimate exception to that feeling. Vegas is so laid back, so chill, and so unpretentious that you'll find yourself right at home.
There is a pool table, jukebox with everything thing from Frou Frou to Ryan Adams and between, and a few old school video games featuring the Pacman of your childhood. Behind the bar, they have Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. All you have to do is pull out a deck of Trivial Pursuit cards and start asking the questions out loud and you'll make new friends fast. It seems that everyone there knows everyone else and it won't be long before you're part of the crowd.
The back seating area features lovely red velvet couches sure to encourage any or all patrons to curl up with a Brooklyn Lager and someone special in the candlelight. The walls are decorated with paintings done by local artists which are sure to spark conversation amongst your group.
Added bonus...two for one happy hour!
