I've always suspected that Marnie has a bit of a weight problem but now it's official. I can no longer delude myself  with the idea that perhaps I'm being too hard on her and that she's just as svelte as the other cats out there. Nope. I believe the official diagnosis was "fat ass".

All right, maybe Dr. Simpson wasn't that abrasive. What she most definitely was was professional with a charming bedside manner and heightened sensitivity to her patient's owner. I inquired about a specific procedure that I'm not certain would be right for Marnie and Dr. Simpson presented me with several options that might serve just as well. She was very clear and forthright about everything.

I have to say I was amazed at how calm Marnie was throughout the exam. This after I had called ahead and warned the staff that I was bringing in "a very ill-tempered cat that will most certainly be difficult" and "it may be necessary to employ leather gauntlets".  Dr. Simpson attributed her subdued behavior to sheer terror but I disagree. I think that she and the assistant did such a fine job of making Marnie feel safe that she didn't find it necessary to hiss and spit and pee all over everything.

Both check-in and check-out were efficient. Reception was friendly and helpful. I haven't any frame of reference for the prices, really. I mean, when your animal needs medical attention you just give it to them. It didn't seem unreasonable to me and the Dr. helped me figure out what services were absolutely imperative for this visit and which ones I could safely wait on until the next time.

I have to say, five stars doesn't seem like nearly enough for this stellar operation. Many thanks, VCA Cat Hospital!

This is the place where I take my little dudes now. There are most definitely cheaper places to take your cat to the vet, but I'm not in the business of cheaping out on my cat's health. The waiting room is nice and clean and the staff is very friendly and are willing to answer questions over the phone. I have never had a problem getting a regular appointment when biscuit gets a cold (usually like twice a year) or when he does something stupid to hurt himself. My cats are definitely a pain in the ass when I take them to the vet, but the staff have never been anything but professional and kind. The office itself is not close to public transportation, so you will have to either drive, or take a cab as I do. Cool place for cats.

I've visited here quite a few times to have Zelda treated.

The first visit, I was amused to see Zelda unleash her FURY on the vet techs. The techs seemed used to this and took it all in stride as I stood there embarrassed that was happening. They have this mask that resembles what they used on Hannibal Lecter, but that didn't last very long. The techs had to wear very long gloves because Zelda was wrapped all around her forearm. The techs were great and tried to make me feel better although I still felt awful.

The next time, I had to have Zelda under anasthesia. She did bite one of the vets and I had to sign a form that said she would have to be put down if something happened to the doctor.

The lobby is small but can fit a couple of visitors with their carriers. The receptionists are always nice and helpful. They do sell cat food and flea/heartworm medication. The exam room is really small and tight.

This office is located around Rittenhouse area and parking is sparse unless you drive around and get lucky (I lived in the area so I was ok with parking a few blocks away). Be mindful of the meters and parking signs! If you think your visit will be long, might as well park in one of the many lots in the area.

I think this is a great hospital, but it is pricey for me (my cat is not insured).

A little pricey? Sure. But your cats will not get better, more attentive care anywhere else in Philadelphia. All of the vets are gentle, compassionate, and patient, and the staff is friendly and accomodating. My cats simply refuse to be seen anywhere else.
