This is a great park in Los Gatos. They have a beautiful Xmas display every year in December, and there's a cute railroad for the little ones. It's a nice spot for BBQing, walking around or just hanging out. I come here a few times a year.

OK its a park but with a plus! this is one of the most spacious city parks in the Valley bar none. They have a large area for kids, mini trains in the summer and huge are for BBQuin and ,miles of trails for walking, biking, boating or just to chill out. Lots of grassy areas to have a picnic with the family.
Its also very clean, you can also fish in the lake which has fish I just haven't seen anyone catch one. There's also a large area for groups for a company party. Lots of parking and a great place to just relax.
I say check them out! -

Beautiful lake. Lots of BBQ and picnic area.
I would love this park more if not for all the geese droppings. You really need to be careful because these landmines are everywhere!
Nice paved road around the lake perfect for strolling, biking, running. The park is dog friendly too. It is a great place to walk your furry friend. -

It's a tranquil park and fun amenities. However, the little train derailed yesterday while I was riding with my family. A piece of the wheel broke off! The cast iron wheel? Yes, it was broken into pieces. It was a scary moment for my kids!
Hopefully this is a wake up call for the park officials, because not just the train, marry go-around also needs a lot of attention. After it stops, the whole thing will start spinning backward while kids dismounting.
Blame on state budget cut? Maybe......... -

This place is great. I ran my first half-marathon here with Coastal Trail Runs & Zombierunner in September, and had one of the best experiences of my life- so far, at least. It's very spacious and fantastic for running. I saw a lot of bikers and mothers with strollers. Overall, a great place to get your fitness on.

A couple of things you should know about Vasona:
- it is gorgeous,
- it is enormous,
- serious bicyclists should enter at the own risk (toddlers and geese crossing trails at all times)
- it is the best place to feel like having small kids in your late 30s and 40s is the norm ;)
- a train and a carousel? good times!
- you can bring your dog on the train, better times!
Watch out for goose poop, it's everywhereListed in: Hidden Bay Area Treasures

I've been coming to this park since I was really little and have always loved it. But that changed quite a bit since yesterday and I will not hold an event there again.
Just a tip Vasona - If you're going to have a huge event that is going to shut down nearly half the park, can you PLEASE put that on your web site?! There was absolutely nothing on the government web site about this.
I planned my baby shower at Vasona for yesterday. My husband and I get to the park at 7:30 to find that there are police, cones and signs that there will be a March of Dimes event. We drive in to near where we wanted to have our party (near the boat rentals) and it's completely coned off with a cop and a total d-bag from the MOD organization. He just waved us on and snapped, "Public traffic needs to keep going!" First, tell me why it's ok for an organization to take up most of the free, first come first serve BEFORE 8 AM unlike us "general public"? (Us "normals" aren't allowed to set up for events before 8 AM) This guy said it will be an all day event and if we had a problem with it, go talk to a park ranger.
... really? Yeah, keep talking down to a pregnant woman when you're from a group that supposedly cares so much about us and our babies. I had to call my parents ASAP to see if there was any availability at the park across the street from their house. And had to contact my friends and family about the sudden change of plans.
Oh - and the best part? One of my friends who went to Vasona accidentally at 12:30 (a half hour after my shower was to start), said the MOD people had completely cleared out and it looked like they were never even there. Thanks to that d-bag who said to us it will be an all day event. -

I love this park, besides all the geese poo!
Other than that, very big, tables get taken up pretty quickly during a nice weekend so you must come super early to reserve one. -

This park is beautiful, fun, and huge! It is an enormous lake, kind of tucked away and hidden in Los Gatos. There are really nice walking tails that are dog-friendly, and plenty to do here. Kayaking, paddle boarding, BBQing, there's a carousel and even a train if you come here with kids.
The only things to watch out for here are the parking fees and goose poop. I usually park outside and walk in with my dog--more exercise doesn't hurt, plus it's more scenic. -

I adore this park. It is a lovely and HUGE place to do...well lots of outdoor activities!
-Running/Jogging
-Biking
-BBQ/Picnics
-Train ride!
-Kayak/Paddle boating
and it goes on :)
The only precautions I have to give are to watch out for the geese crossing the road, their droppings, and the baby strollers. This place does get a tad busy on weekends (what park doesn't?). The early mornings will be occupied by the runners and cyclists, and roughly around 10 am, you start seeing the influx of families with children arriving.
Other than the popularity, it's a beautiful place that conveniently linked with the Los Gatos Creek Trail, for those who would like to go a little further out on their run/bike rides. -

A family day at the park.
Train rides, carousel, airplanes, lakes, birds, bridges, parks and more parks, movie nights, grass galore, nature, trees, endless fun for all ages.
I cant forget the birds!!! It is a toddler's dream. You can find them floating around the creek and laying out in the sun in the middle of the green acres. There are signs requesting you to NOT feed the birds, but, we all know that those birds are well carbohydrate fed.
The only downside to the park is that you have to pay for parking, I think $8, but its still well worth the cost. -

This is a nice park with a variety of things: a lake, a train, goose poop, a bridge, some grass, and even some trees. Also probably some other weird stuff that I don't know about.
I would like it better without the parking fee, but you can find free parking nearby if you don't mind a bit of a walk (unless there is an event going on). -

Absolutely beautiful park!!! Playground, BBQ areas, running/walking/biking trails, and a creek that kids can play in. There's even a little train that sometimes runs. It's big and neatly upkept! Great park. I love it.

Since I was little I used to come here..
When my brother was three I used to get him to chase/ be chased by the huge @#$@#$#@ geese that roam the lake..
As a family we would ride the train and the merry go round.... or swing on the swings
I would spend time babysitting the little brother (now in college)
Birthdays and weekends were always spent here.
While I was training for my black belts in high school I would run here
This place has a million places to park, walk and sit down. I have never had a negative experience at this park....
Usually these days I will randomly park and just sit down somewhere and people watch... -

If you live around here, there's no excuse not to visit this park, or be physically active!! It's beautiful- has a lot of play areas for kids, nice spots to sit and relax, bathrooms, plenty of parking, and surrounded by Los Gatos Trail providing a place for a nice walk, run or bike. Come out, be active and enjoy yourself- it'll lift your spirits!!

This park is gorgeous and there's a large lake for you to rent sailboats, pedalboats, kayaks, and paddleboats. It's $10 for half an hour and $15/hr. Pretty good deal! My coworker and I did the full hour on a pedalboat (fits up to 4 ppl) and boy was it a work out, but fun. We picked out a shiny sparkly blue pedal boat too! The weather was gorgeous and the park wasn't too crowded on a Wednesday in August. The guy @ the dock wasn't too friendly but eh we only had to deal w/ him for a brief 5 minutes and just stay at least 20 ft away from the shore, red bridge, and dam. Definitely would come back here. Dog friendly and parking is $6 not bad at all. Such a small fee to support such a beautiful park. My work reserved a wonderful picnic spot and the grills were large enough to feed at least 20 ppl. Definitely would come back.

I run, cycle, walk to this park almost every weekend in the spring, summer, fall. Anytime the weather is beautiful, I get out and do my thing and end up at this lovely park. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because it's got a lot of goose poop.
There are good bathroom facilities, adequate water fountains, shady trees, picnic tables, grills for the public to use.
The tables are first come, first served, and on busy weekends, families show up and perch and take them over. Good for them. Fun place to have a birthday party for kids.
There is a nice little lake, a pretty bridge. Trails for strolling in the sun and the shade, canoodling on the grass in private, lots of spaces for that. But keep yer clothes on spanky, the popo do patrol this park and they will pick you up if you're disheveled. :).
Great place to have a romantic or even just a platonic picnic. -

Pretty great park for toddlers. My 1.5 year old son can't really decide which he loves more, the train or the carousel. There's also a pretty great playground inside of the park too.
Downsides: parking plus paying for tickets for the train and carousel can add up. I wish they could do a better bulk ticket deal.
Overall, though, it's a great place to spend some time. -

Really nice park to bring the Fam. My only complaint is the six dollar parking fee. I wish it was less. The parks scenic views are beautiful though.

This is a very nice park!
There's a set fee to park, I forget how much it is. There's a site to go kayaking, boat rowing, and something else which I'm not quite sure what it is. You stand on a surf board, and you pedal with paddles. Quite interesting, some people had their dogs with them on the surf boards.
There was also a train ride. $2 and it goes almost around the whole park. It was nice.
The downside was that there were so many geese poop everywhere! I thought they were dog poop but how can there be so much dogs, and I kept seeing flocks and flocks of geese.... Haha, so therefore, it had to be the geese! I'm surprise that their poop is that size.
There were plenty of empty parking lots and nice picnic areas.
Would definitely come here again! -

Vasona is a great park, and we are so fortunate to have it in our area. I grew up playing on the playground at Oak Meadow park (the airplane is still there!), and now go almost every weekend for a run. I also take my niece to Oak Meadow from time to time; during the summer, we go on the carousel and grab tasty bbq'd hotdogs from the food stand nearby.
There are so many neat little areas with picnic tables, bbq pits, fields, benches, etc. You can reserve picnic areas, and you may want to do so if you have a large group on a weekend.
The Los Gatos Creek Trail starts up at the Lexington reservoir and goes all the way to Willow Glen (a total of 9 miles), passing through Vasona for a couple of miles, and it's a great place to run, walk your dog, or bike. People are generally courteous, but watch out for some of the crazy cyclists who speed down the trail without letting you know they're passing. Parents, PLEASE keep your toddlers nearby and on the correct side of the trail -- they can get run over by runners and cyclists, and cause danger when people are trying to dodge them.
The Billy Jones Wildcat RR is a cute little train that goes around the park, and there is a wonderful old carousel for kids during the summer and on weekends. Finally, there are boat rentals on the lake (the lake itself is gross, so no swimming or wading).
Some tips: If you want a picnic area on a nice weekend, be sure to reserve an area or get there early -- they fill up quickly. Watch out for goose poop, and don't let your kids play in the lake -- it's disgusting.
For parking, I believe it's free for LG and Monte Sereno residents at Oak Meadow Park (across the creek from Vasona), but you have to pay to park in Vasona itself. There are lots of nearby street areas that you can park in, however, if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Try the Little League parking lot in Los Gatos off University, or on University right off Blossom Hill, near the entrance to Oak Meadow. Another option is street parking on Garden Hill lane, near the dam of Vasona Lake. -

This park is great! I took my doggie for a walk here and enjoyed the beautiful lake view. I was surprised to see so many people riding bikes, walkers, and joggers and other dog walkers there so early on a Sunday morning. I guess its best to get a good walk in before the sun heats up.
The park is very well kept and totally worth the $6 parking fee. Too bad I was walking my doggie and if not the paddle boats would have been so much fun. This might actually be my new favorite walking/jogging spot.
The only thing I noticed was the funny looks from people walking when I picked up after my dog....HELLO, I know it is a wooded area and plenty of green and leaves to cover but I would not want myself or someone to step in some fresh poop. Sorry people but I pick up after my dog no matter where I am. lol -

I just recently went here for a family fourth of july bbq. It was a very crowded spot for such a big holiday, beware of lots and lots of poop from surrounding geese. Overall, I wouldn't have enjoyed it so much if there were not paddle boats and kayaks. The price for paddle boats or kayaks were $15 for an hour and $10 for half an hour. It was very cheap and the staff was very helpful and pleasant. I recommend only paying for half and hour because they don't monitor your time out there and they said to just come back whenever you would like. Also there is a $6 parking fee for each vehicle and free parking outside the park is quite a long way.

Had a great time here on Memorial Day. We wanted to find a place for a picnic and a a trail for bicycling. Reading the Yelp reviews helped us make the choice... Got there a little before noon, and were able to find a good parking spot before the place filled up. Picnic tables were filled; however, it was just the four of us, and we were able to find a nice spot on the edge of the lake (near the boat rentals), and had our simple picnic . Sitting on the grass is probably not the thing to do, as there are tons of geese on this lake, and they like to travel in large groups on the lawn, which means lots of goose stuff left on the grass (that's my only complaint about the grounds).
We took to the bike trail (Los Gatos Creek Trail) afterwards, and decided to ride towards the Lake Vasona Dam. The ride takes you along the lake, which was very scenic. It can get pretty crowded, with a mixed crowd of runners, semi-serious cyclists, kids on their scooters, and people taking leisurely strolls. Gotta' be careful not to run over anyone. I was actually surprised that I didn't see more people injured (I saw one guy ride their bike into the bushes, but that was the worst I saw). Once we finished hitting the dam, we decided to ride the other direction which basically takes you past the lake, and alongside the Los Gatos Creek. This side has a little more hilly terrain, but it's all paved very nicely and has a lot more cyclists than runners, or people strolling. There was definitely more shade to be had along this side of the trail which was quite nice...
Another thing to note was the ample amount of bathrooms throughout the park, which is great when you are riding with kids. This place is definitely worth the $6 entry fee. We will definitely be back during non-holiday weekends when it is not as crowded. Got to try out the train that circles the park, and the boat rentals as well... -

This is an amazing local park that is well maintained and full of things to do! The Los Gatos Creek Trail runs through it, and there's plenty of recreational activities that you can do here (and around here). You can fish by the Los Gatos Creek Park, you can go pedal boating and canoeing/kayaking on the lake, picnicking/BBQing, and it provides large fields for various sporting activities and shady areas for relaxation and reading. It also has a playground and is NEAR another park with a playground (Oak Meadow Park), so perfect for children. Also, kids (and adults) can play in the shallow part of the creek, along with various water birds!
But watch out for goose poop! There sure are a lot of those in the grass!!
One thing, though - parents, please, PLEASE do not let your children attack/bother the wild lives here. I had to tell some goose chasers off, for the safety of the geese family and your children's eye balls. They are vicious!Listed in: Leisurely Recreational

Part 5 of hubby's $200 date day. At this point, he has only spent $55 and we were already 5 activities in deep. Vasona Lake should have been a free event, since we were supposed to ride our bikes in. But since I threw the bitch card, and had hubby come pick me up in the car in the middle of the trail, we ended up driving into Vasona and had to pay $6 for parking.
The mood changed as soon as we got into Vasona. We found a parking spot that overlooked the lake, and took a moment to recollect ourselves and bond. Once we were done with that, we reparked the car closer to the lake and went out to sit on one of the many benches overlooking the lake and ducks. It started to get a bit chilly for sitting around so we were about to leave when hubby busted out the kite.
It was so much fun running around like little kids, trying to get the darn thing up in the air. We weren't very successful, but we had a lot of fun trying.
Vasona is a great place for anyone and everyone. They have water activities, plenty of open space for sporty activities, and plenty of shaded areas with tables for picnics.Listed in: Dog Friendly Places!

What a great park! This place is huuuge.
Plenty of stuff for everyone to do. There are plenty of well kept grass areas to play on. There are plenty of picnic tables. There is tons of shade. There is a great walkway/trail to ride bikes, jog, walk, etc. There is the lake where you can rent a paddleboat, kayak, etc. There is a nice little play structure area for the kids. There is even a great little spot for the kids to explore in the creek which runs into the lake.
Great for families all sizes, couples(bring a nice meal and bottle), or just the solo contemplator/meditator.

I LOVE this park, it is beautiful. The paths are gorgeous for walking and running, not really enough room for bikers but they show up anyway. There are creek views, lots of trees that provide shade, along the path anyway, and a view of all the expensive and pretty homes in los gatos/saratoga.
I have only gone on weekday mornings with my dog and it is pretty empty, I imagine that this park is popular on the weekends.
I do not like the fact that I have to pay six dollars to park, but it is worth it, I plan on purchasing a parking pass sometime soon because we tend to visit several parks in the area.
There is a clean and safe playground for kids, plenty of picnic tables, and large grass areas abound, there is even a train ride!Listed in: Places to Take Your Dog, Take A Hike!

This place is great...its beautiful and the lake us fun...I wish that they had a day where the dogs could swim in the lake off leash. My doggie would love it. This park is huge by the way...you'll have to pay to park though. There's a train and it's just a beautiful place to take pictures.

Wow, this place is a real gem! I was invited to a picnic out here last week and had never heard of it before. I expected a tiny park overrun with squalling babes. What I got was a huge park with quite a few separate picnic grounds and plenty of space to get away from everyone else. The barbecue pits were plentiful, so much so that I had to drive around for a span before I even found my friends. It was a bit chilly out but we still enjoyed the large lawns and pleasant, uncrowded atmosphere.
I can't wait to come here in summer, when things are active and the weather's a little better. Paddle boats, a train, and a nicely paved walking path around the lake? Unless I have time to go all the way up to Golden Gate Park, this is an easy alternative! -

This park is big and beautiful with lots of fun activities. They have a nice playground for the little ones and you can head down to the lake if you want to rent a paddle board, kayak, or peddle boat to cruise around in. There is lots of space for picnics and they also provide grills if you want to bring some coal and meat. The only downside is they charge a 6 dollar entry fee to the park, so make sure you bring some cash.

There is street parking across the park if you aren't staying in the park for very long and don't want to pay for the parking fee.
The park itself is very beautiful, with a lot of ducks and friendly joggers. My favorite is the little train ride. It's $2 for an 8 minute ride around the park. :) Definitely relaxing. -

I have to thank my guy, who is the most romantic guy I've ever encountered, for taking me on a picnic at this big beautiful park recently. He also drove me through this park during Christmas time when Fantasy of Lights was there.
If you don't already know my bf, he's certainly a guy's guy, but he's also very domestic. In fact, he's WAY more domestic than I am. In addition to his love affair with his FJ Cruiser, he loves his kitchen, his garden, and MY collection of chick flicks. So to top it all off, I discovered that he also owns a picnic basket. Did I just make you gag? But really, Ladies, I know you can appreciate how sweet that is! Guys, you should really invest in one!
With a picnic basket and a blanket packed up, we headed over to Vasona Park on a lovely day and spread out on one of the many grassy areas near the lake. After our nice picnic lunch, we took a stroll along the lake. There were lots of runners, people walking their dogs and bikers on the trail, and we even ran into fellow yelpers. We also spotted turtles swimming near the ducks. Too bad the lake is too dirty to swim in, because it was such a hot day. Unfortunately, there weren't any paddle boats available, because that would've been a fun thing to do.
While there's not a park as amazing as Central Park in NYC, IMHO, this is a fantastic park in the South Bay. It's a wonderful spot for large BBQs or kids birthday parties. They even have a kiddie train that adults can ride on, though I'm not sure when it runs. And of course, it's great for picnics with your loved one.
Note: There is a $6 parking fee, but don't let that deter you from coming. Support and conserve this county park!

Where there's life there is water.
We depend on Mother Nature, both, ecologically and psychologically. In this case, as it pertains to Vasona Park, I admire and indulge in both, as the two are mutually exclusive. This park is absolutely beautiful. The trees and vegetation seclude you from the fact that the park is surrounded by several major highways and the 10th largest city in the United States: San Jose. There are ducks quacking; squirrels squirreling about; joggers jogging; bikers biking; and families spending quality time together in the great outdoors. What a great escape from the rigors of everyday life.
The park has been very significant in my life. There is a cul-de-sac located along the western end of the lake that has seen me at some of my lowest, and finest of moments. Its witnessed many tears shed from lost loved ones, lost love, and lost sense of self. Its also been present during my peaks, when hard work and discipline, along with faith, brought a surplus of happiness and jubilation into my life. If you catch the lake at sunset on a cloudless day, the relection of the sun hits the water creating a remarkable red glow that is rejuvinating. One can't help but smile, and appreciate the natural beauty of this planet that we are so blessed to be living upon. -

I happened across Vasona park jogging from Los Gatos Creek dog park. The first thing I noticed was the Vasona dam and lake. It's not the most scenic but it was good nevertheless to just take in the sight.http://static.px.yelp....
After venturing furthing into Vasona park, I came across Oak Meadow park. This was the best section of the park.
- Oak Meadow Park: Park within a park, there was a little train station, merry go around, and play area. http://static.px.yelp....
- Train: Cool little yellow and green train. There is a counter to buy tickets from and then you wait in line. http://static.px.yelp....
http://static.px.yelp....
- Birds: There were tons of birds here, I only noticed Canadian Geese, American Coots, and Mallards. But I did see three people with a fancy telescope looking for birds in the trees. http://static.px.yelp....
- Creek: The Los Gatos creek runs through the park. There are benches along the creek where people can relax and enjoy the weather.http://static.px.yelp....
- Boat Harbor: It was closed but seems like they rent out boats in the summer.
- Fishing Pier: There was no one fishing here but I can see it being crowded during the summer season.
- Group Picnic Areas: There are several picnic areas. Basically a big charcoal, grill pit surrounded symmetrically by picnic 8-12 picnic tables.
Overall a nice park with tons of things to do. There is ample parking but there is a $6 daily vehicle entrance fee.Listed in: Rupert's favorites in the Bay…

Being HOT in San Jose-YUCK.
Getting AC bill next month-YUCK.
Needing some fresh air and remembering a certain tree with lots of shade that will keep you cool-priceless yes, but more importantly a simple reminder of good living in California!
Vasona...ahh Vasona.
Keep in mind the parking and/or "come on in" fee is $6 bucks.
6 bucks.
If you park outside the gates and walk, then it's free. But think about it, 6 bucks. What does your 6 bucks normally go to?
For me, my 6 bucks serve to hopefully maintain natural areas within our beautiful state GREEN. Looking forward, I want to keep parks accessible not only to me, but my future offspring.
This past Sunday, SJ got a taste of summer. Although I could be cranking the AC, I decided to head outside for a picnic/nap. Packed up some food, a blanket, and a book-so to most people walking by I don't look like a bum.
AMAZING.
Mother nature's natural air conditioner found beneath a small little tree. AMAZING.
Great place for dogs, kids, birthday parties, and recreational activities. Clean bathrooms, lot's of shaded areas for grilling(at a reserve fee) and lots of wide open space. Not to mention the lake, and the choo choo train! Although the park has lots of variety..I keep it simple. Truth be told, I don't even head to the action prone areas. I stay close to the trees where no one can bother me.
And yes, not being bothered also includes those pesky rangers. I wish yogi were around...so they could find something else to do with their time. One of my pals once got a $100 parking ticket for not stopping at a stop sign. I mean they were going 25 mph and really...are you serious? Oh yeah...and on my most recent visit, please note that if you let your dog roam free, you can expect to hear a ranger say "please put your dog on a leash" from a megaphone(they are a little too ___________ to walk over and tell you). I understand they have a job to do...but really...
Either way. I still have lots of love for this park. I get a kick out of seeing the train coast on by...
I get a kick out of seeing families having fun.
I get a natural fuzzy feeling being a bum under a tree and loving the serenity that is simplicity. -

Hugeass park with lots of geese, children, and tiny little dogs on leashes. Not the prettiest place ever, but kinda cool nonetheless. Lots of trees are available to sit under for shade.
Unlike many other Yelpers, I did not find an excessive amount of poop at this park, though the geese poop that I did spot were pretty big. Nothing horrifying though.
The best things about Vasona Park according to me:
1. The paddle boats. There are some people on motorboats and kayaks (?) as well, and a few people fishing. Paddle boat rates are $8 for half an hour, and $12 for a full hour. Umbrellas for the boats can be rented for $3.
2. The ever-present ice cream truck. How charming! There are no ice cream trucks in Berkeley or Saratoga =(
Parking is $6.Listed in: Wholesome Activities

The paddle boats floating along the shimmering lake make for a pastoral scene. Although it is a Sunday and afternoon and the park is full of people we have a large space of our own shared only with a pack of rogue geese.
