When stepping into Vargo's you are greeted with peacocks. What the??? I ventured to Vargo's for a wedding ceremony and reception. Tucked away between Westheimer and Fondren, Vargo's spans a couple of acres of greenery, bridges, streams and tons of beautiful flowers.

The Vargo's gazebo served as a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony. After the ceremony, I was ready for some grubbin'. The inside area is a bit dated, but still had a nice charming feel to it. The staff decorated the tables with crisp white linens and fresh flowers. I ordered the NY Strip as my entree. The steak was cooked a little too well for my taste, but still was moist and flavorful. The salad that accompanied the meal had a very nice vinaigrette and was one of the best house salads I've had.

Overall, this place has a great backdrop and decent food. However, this place is a bit dated and does need a bit of work.

Ughhh... I can't tell so you how disappointed I was. It was my anniversary so I took out my girl to a "romantic" setting for our dinnerl. Service was decent (after all we were the only 2 ppl in the restaurant) but the one star is for the horrible food. We ordered the bisque and it came out soooo salty. Complained to the manager, he took it to the back and I heard some loud shouting from a furious chef and they brought me back a bisque that he apparently added water to. Yuck. Entree was over seasoned too and the dessert was just bleh.  Save your money and your time and eat somewhere else. Anywhere else.

A beautiful, fine dining establishment gone to crap. And that is the nicest word I can think of using for my last (and I mean forever) dining experience at Vargos.

The drive to the restaurant is pretty with lots of green lawn, gazebo in the background and peacocks strutting around. We walked through the door and our evening went downhill from there.

What can I say about the staff (hostess, manager, waiter)? The most apathetic group of people I have ever encountered in one sitting. We were greeted none too warmly and shown to our table, the hostess gave us our menus then stomped off. The busboy delivered water to us and advised the waiter will be by shortly so we waited, and waited and waited. After 10 minutes of watching our waiter serve other tables in a not so crowded section, we called over the busboy and asked for martinis. Sweet gem of a boy actually delivered them quickly (I do believe this broke some TABC rule/law or something). We waited another 15 minutes and asked for the manager (our waiter hadn't even acknowledged us). I was actually ok by then because I had a great buzz from the martini on an empty stomach. The manager ended up taking our order but never apologized for the lack of service. The appetizer was served by our very grim waiter who didn't bother talking to us except "Anything to drink?", which we ordered wine. Our wine was delivered and then service literally shut down again. By this time we had been there for almost an hour. We asked for the manager and was told he was busy. Oh, ok. So we decided to leave. Which we did, pronto.

As we walked by the hostess stand my date stopped and said we were leaving without paying and gave his business card in case the manager wanted to talk to him. Well guess what? He never called.

The drinks and appetizer were great, fantastic, wonderful. Too bad the service sucked beyond everything else that fully & totally sucks beyond all reason.

Large picture windows overlook a small lake surrounded by lush greenery.  As you dine, you can watch ducks swim in the waters or see peacocks stroll through the divine landscaping.

Everything here is divine and you can't help but relax as waiters attend to your every detail and your meal ends with coffee and a stroll through the gardens.  It is one of the few places where you can spend time enjoying the grounds after the meal instead of jumping in your car and heading home.

For a light summer starter, order the sliced beefsteak tomato served with Roquefort cheese or house vinaigrette.  Each of their salads is delicious and fresh.

The 10oz Filet Mignon melts in your mouth and is served with a perfect Bearnaise Sauce.  The Pecan Crusted Snapper is like the answer to a prayer - perfectly crispy and flaky at the same time.

Make a reservation and dine at Vargo's when the weather is mild and you want a treat for all of your senses.  It will be an experience that will stay with you much longer than a run of the mill restaurant.
