read the positive reviews of this place and decided to give it a try. After being here 6 months and never leaving a salon happy, I cant praise this place enough. Jessica's a great talent and super cool girl....highly recommended and very very very reasonably priced. more like a steal.

On a tree lined street in Brooklyn Heights, Van Sickel is my new place to get my precision cut and learn new tips to get my coiff looking fierce!

I've had Jessica cut my hair the past few occasions and she is a misstress with the single blade!  After telling her my preferences, she followed what I wanted and even suggested things that I wouldn't have thought of for my hair (straight Asian hair) -- and you know, she was right!  Not only did my cut look great the first week, but it grew out evenly & with minimum maintenance (I'm not a heavy gel kind of guy). Even five weeks later -- it looks fab and I can't wait to go back to get my Summer cut!

Best of all, you pay a fraction of what you would expect at a B&B, Fekkai, or any of the other large NYC salons.

Nice touches with complimentary coffee & tea too!

I don't like writing a bad review especially if I really liked the place.

I came here on a very windy day (think wind pushing you as you stand,) exactly two months ago.   I met with Jessica as recommended by Tori.

It was my first time in Brooklyn heights so I called my father after I got off the subway because he used to live in that area.  He talked me through the streets to get to this lovely salon.

When I walked in J assessed my hair and what I wanted and then washed my hair.  She also told me what products would work in my hair after the cut.

Well two months later and I'm not liking my hair......It is said hair should look amazing 1-2 months post haircut and my hair just isn't.......

It is difficult for me because my hair has a mind of its own (when I want it straight, it is frizzy, poofy and curly; when I want it curly its slick and straight) ALL while using the exact same products.  So you can see its is very very difficult to work with... so much frustrating that on most days I keep it pinned in a clip or ponytail.

But Since January 30th, My hair has been growing out in a weird shape and is still impossible for me to style nicely.  Would I recommend this place to a friend? Absolutely.   It just didn't work for me.

Today was a good day.  I took a short train ride from Manhattan and got a fantastic haircut at  "Van Sickel Salon" located on lovely Middagh st. in picturesque Brooklyn Heights.  Van sickel is toasty, cozy, homey and compact...it is everything you would want from a salon.   Personalized service; an amicable owner/hairstylist  "Mark who opened VS 10 years ago;  a  wonderful, sweet, professional staff; quality cuts and color at a fraction of what one would shell out in Manhattan.

I have extremely curly locks, the fabulous Jessica ( who has been at Van Sickel for 3 years)  knew exactly what to do with them.  She gave me a precise cut, taking off the heavy ends,  giving me lots of delicious long layers.  I am very happy because my hair looks healthy,  and I look fierce once again!  Thank you Jessica!

Gents go see Jessica for a single blade well crafted cut.  I witnessed her nimble fingers as she cleaned up the scraggly hair of one of her followers.  Jessica is cool, open, easy to talk to, and a master of her craft.   Get ready for the holidays. Make your appointment now at the Intimiate Van Sickel Salon 718 246 5500 -and tell her Tori K sent you.  It is as close to getting a haircut in the comfort of your own home as you can get.   Make a night of it... have dinner at the fanastic Italian Eatery "Noodle Pudding"  down the block on Henry Street afterwards.  Brooklyn Rocks... and not just because I was born there!

This place rocks, it's right around the corner from my apartment, and I get a great hair cut there for $20, a true steal in NYC, especially for what you get there - a real hair stylist cutting your hair in a real salon, where you actually get a nice shampoo job beforehand. I go back to Diana every time, she does a great job and is a total sweety, we chat, she cuts; it's just a pleasant, personable place like that.
