Review from Do K.
Sherman Oaks, CA
I love this park. There are 5-6 baseball diamonds and a great running path. I believe the circle trail is about 0.5 miles on my Nike+ pod and about 1.5 miles on the longer path as previously mentioned. The park has many visitors and you can always count on a baseball game every evening with full lights on. Soccer is also very popular. On weekends you find there is a massive gather of children for their birthday parties. I've never seen such a resilient festering of inflatable bounce houses week in, week out!
I find this park best for walking dogs and running. It's also motivating to see so many people eager to come enjoy the outdoors! -

This is my local park and it serves its purpose, that's if your purpose is to run, jog, walk, swim, dive or train for a triathlon. Otherwise, this park has some downside to it.
The good things about this park are:
1. Lots of room and I mean a lot of room. I believe there are four baseball diamonds for the Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys Little League. There's enough room for at least 4 to six soccer games to go on at the same time. There's a huge track that circles the baseball diamonds, but there's also an extension of the track that circles the perimeter of the park. There is an Olympic size swimming pool with both platform and spring board diving available. There's a brand new children's area that was just recently opened, however it is very crowded. There are eight tennis courts and two paddle tennis courts and one racquet ball court. There are two basketball courts and there's a lot of room for BBQ-ing or any other kind of outdoor activity.
The bad things about this park are:
1. It's too big that the park services can't maintain the upkeep of this facility. The tennis courts are cracking and the nets are in bad shape. The field isn't the smoothest and some of the bleachers seem too dangerous to run on, let alone sit on.
2. The basketball courts are generally home to some really shady characters mixed with punk kids who gather to smoke pot or do any other type of stuff. The odor is so strong that you can literally get a contact high just by walking by.
3. The track needs to be repaved as it's starting to get rather uneven so if you're not careful, you can seriously twist an ankle.
Overall this park serves its purpose, but I wish they would to more upkeep of this place aside from just the Little League fields. -

Kind of sketchy at night and real dark in some spots. -

This was my GO TO park for a long time. I stopped cus i used to get away with letting my dog run around without a leash near the grassy area till i found out from another dog walker they got a ticket for doing that. Pretty ridiculous. Other than that, good little park. They just built a brand new kids jungle gym ! Plenty of parking. They're are bums little later at night so beware! lol

This park is freaking HUGE! There are more baseball fields than you can imagine. The park is fairly clean all the time and the people aren't too bad. They have a brand new jungle gym with state of the art equipment and MISTERS....yes I said MISTERS!!!!! There's a pool which is pretty clean. I only have 2 issues with this park:
1. The basketball courts are ALWAYS full with punk kids.
2. On the weekends this is little Mexico, you literally can't even walk there are so many bounce houses, bridal/baby showers, balloon vendors walking around. They NEVER clean up after themselves and after a weekend the park is a MESS!!!!!!!!!
Other than that it's a nice park to walk. Tons of walking paths, dog friendly and really well maintained! -

I only go to the tennis courts and I love them! Each court is surrounded by a tall fence which keeps my tennis balls within reach and those of other players away.
There is an $8 fee to play here during the hours when the attendant is on duty. However all other times are free. The lights also stay on after the attendant leaves. I have played here until 10:45pm on a Saturday evening and the lights were still on when I left. -

I love this park! There are 2 running/walking paths, one short and one long. This is great because it's easy for me to use them to train for 5Ks.
long path = 1.3 miles
short path = just under .5 miles
I love that there is much going on here. Baseball diamonds, soccer fields, running paths, basketball courts, classes, and pool.
I can't give it 5 stars b/c it doesn't have a dog park/run area. My pet is my child and he can't play here. :( -
Review from Gigi D.
I have been to this park for dog events, mostly, and walked past it all the time, but never really came here for anything else.
Last Memorial Week-end, I was talking to a Veteran from the American Legion and he told me that this park was donated from them and showed me the Memorial from them. That was pretty cool to learn.
But anyway, it was getting late one day and I still had to figure out where I was going to go for my daily walk and I decided to come here and walk the park.
The negative: It is not a very long path. I have a certain amount of distance I want to do daily. So I have to walk the path a few times to get in the miles.
Also, it CLEARLY STATES THAT DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH! However, I guess everyone assumes that that means everyone, except them. I love dogs, but I hate people that let their dogs off leash in a park where they are supposed to stay on leash.
My dog does not get along with every dog and I can not bring her here because irresponsible people do not consider anyone else except themselves and let their dogs run free. Even if my dog is on leash, and someone else's dog is not and runs up on my dog, the chances are, my dog would get blamed. It's not fair, but that is how it would be, so I won't expose her to that risk.
The positive: Well it is an easy place to walk to and get a few laps in when I need to get exercise and can't figure out where to go. The path is easy, and it is close enough to walk to and from. -

Fantastic community park. It's refreshing to have a place where you can go for a run, swim in an Olympic-sized pool and take your kid to the playground in the city. Neat, clean and well maintained.

This is a great park, and seems more geared towards sports than swing sets.
Always in search of dog friendly places, I found this park to be a good place to let my dog meet other dogs.
The park is very large and from my experience seems not to have a large quantity of kid play areas but instead sectioned into large baseball fields surrounded by a track, a indoor gymanism and center, and tennis courts.
The center track is nice and long as it goes around the large baseball area, at night though only half the track is lit. Since it is a track there are no bikes or kids on scooters to avoid during a doggy walk.
The park is level and there are no inclines or hills.
Street parking seemed more readily available at night than lot parking. -

This is only a rating on the Parks staff and their lack of customer service.
I signed up my son to play basketball early Feb 2011, I paid, I was told to wait till mid April and I would receive a phone call from a coach. However, things did not happen this way. I had to call everyday for two weeks to finally get an answer. My son was not on any of the rosters because they had lost his paperwork. Every time I called the park employees were rude, unwilling to help/answer any questions, they just kept brushing me off and telling me "a coach will call you" and then they would hang up. When I finally had enough and demanded to know what was going on and to speak to someone that would be able to help me, that's when they cared to ask what my son's name was and realized they didn't add him to a team. I was promised a call by the end of that business day to know what team my son was going to be on and of course they did not call because all of the rosters were full. Thankfully, I was able to transfer the payment to another park (Balboa Sports Complex) and they were able to take my son and place him on a team the same day. Balboa Sports Complex was so understanding and even apologized on that park's behalf. (VNSO never apologized for their incompetence) -

This is a Large Park with a variety of Activities and lots of people. You can walk your dog, go jogging, play softball/baseball, swimming, tennis, excerise, basketball, handball, BBQ, Have a Bday Party, etc.
If your looking for a park that has alot of activities going on at the same time and wanting to meet people this is the spot.
Som of the facilities you'll find is an Indoor Basketball gym, olympic size pool with a separate area for the young-ins, many little league fields and baseball diamonds, a looping dirt trail, playground and picnic areas. -

Sherman Oaks, CA
Simply the best. The park and playground are kept clean and safe by an awesome staff. We have taken full advantage of the classes here for our 3 year old son. They have great resources that are high quality and inexpensive for people of all ages. Recently built is the new universal access playground and it does not disappoint. Baseball diamonds, aquatic center (the pool is kept extremely clean and also offers a kiddie pool), track (a short route and long route), basketball, tennis, among others. Take pride in your city and take advantage of all this place has to offer.

This is a great park! My one year old son and I go almost everyday to the playgrounds. There's the big new one and there's one full of sand that was older, but still fun for him. When I was pregnant I used to briskly walk the big loop there to keep in shape. It's great because you have many options for how long a distance you want to walk. You can walk all the way around or just around the baseball fields. There are always people in the park, playing sports, exercising, etc. It feels safe. There are a lot of things to do. It can get crowded on the weekends and there are often many birthday bounce houses set up. The downside to that is sometimes the parties play loud annoying music and barbeque smoke wafts over the playground. We just don't go very often on the weekends or go early in the day. They clean the playgrounds every morning, which is a big plus if you have very young kids.

There's approximately 90 gazillion things to love about the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks park. This park has EVERYTHING (including parking!) There's tennis courts, racquetball courts, basketball courts, shuffleboard courts, parallel bars and chin-up bars, a swimming pool, two kids' playgrounds, a rec center that has tons of classes, a great track (one loop is .5 miles and the other is just under 1.4 miles), soccer fields, softball/baseball fields, and even a day-care center. Every Saturday and Sunday there's hundreds of people throwing cookouts and birthday parties in the park. The track always has just enough people to feel friendly without being overcrowded. The pool...is reviewed awesomely elsewhere on Yelp. (It's listed as being in Van Nuys, but I live next door and I know this side of Magnolia is still Sherman Oaks.) You don't need a gym when you live next to this place. Why go on a treadmill when you can run the track? Why do chinups on a machine when you can do them for real?
And the best part? IT'S FREE! (Well, paid for by your tax dollars. But if my tax dollars are funding this, then I'm not so unhappy about losing them to the government.) -

Los Angeles, CA
This place is amazing! Not only does it have something for everyone, its big enough for everyone to be there at the same time. One of the best parks in LA hands down. I know a lot of people will bitch about it being up in "the valley". Sit down and shut your dirty Hollywood elitist mouths! This place couldn't EXIST in Hollywood. This place as the square footage of a Super Wal*Mart ok, and that just doesn't exist in Hollywood. Yes Pan Pacific park is nice, but this place is twice as big. So quit your bitching and come over the hill.

I absolutely LOVE this park. It's the most happening place on the weekends AND weekdays. There are always sports games being played, a great many local teams use the park, and there's a great sense of community here. I don't like running the treadmill, so I go jogging in the late evenings and I always feel safe (and entertained by all the other activities around me)! There's room enough for everyone at every level of athleticism.
