As we all know...running around in Manayunk is like walking up hill both ways etc. Well...I think I walked Up hill 4 ways to get to this place! We asked a few of the locals where we could find a consignment shop, or goodwill (since those are my favorite places) and the only response we got was about this place.
So when we finally got there I was really surprised! It was such a great little shop...(I'm only giving it 4 stars because they had no shoes there under a size 8!) It was really tidy ...and had some really quality merchandise.
They had an awesome denim section! I'd go back here in a heart beat to pick up some really trendy jeans at a discount! Ohh one more thing...they had some really cool bags as well!
And the owner was a sweetheart!
CONSIGNERS BEWARE!
I have been looking for somewhere to consign some of my nicer designer items that are a little bit too nice for my regular consignment shop. I had driven by Vamp and googled it, discovering that it was not only a boutique but was consignment as well. I made an appointment to consign several items on a Wednesday late afternoon. It gave me confidence that they instructed me that all items should be laundered, pressed and on hangers - I guess it gave the shop a legitimacy that I was looking for in hoping that my designer items would be taken care of and showcased properly. I spent a few hours pressing and steaming everything to make sure it was ready for the showroom floor.
The day of my appointment I finished work early and called the shop to see if I could get in earlier (the prospect of driving to Manayunk in the middle of rush hour was killing my end-of-workday buzz). No one picked up. I left a message and called several times before giving up and starting the trek down 76 to Manayunk. It took me almost an hour to get there because of the usual horrendous traffic. When I got to the store, it was closed. I tried calling again, but there were no signs of life inside. I asked nearby shop-owner who said the boutique had not been open at all that day. The shop-owner also indicated that the owner had been in and out a lot lately and perhaps was having some issues with the business. I left a message expressing my disappointment that I had put so much time into consigning to be stood up, and then I headed back home on the Schuylkill in continuing rush-hour traffic. That was two weeks ago, and I have still not heard back. I guess they don't need or want my business, and I certainly won't be attempting to consign with them again. If I could give zero stars, I would. So irritating. So unprofessional.
Agree with the review below. I travel all over the world looking through second hand shops and with all the new ones popping up this one has its work cut out for them. Every time I've been in the area they are closed. And when you look them up online it only takes you to the owners myspace page where she is posing in her store? Terribly unprofessional.
As a fashion designer/vintage clothing collector its disappointing to see establishments like this pop up in one of my favorite parts of Philadelphia. Luckily for us shoppers there are about 4 new second hand shops on Main street to turn to instead.
AND YES! I noticed the shotty sewing job in the window as well! I can put you in contact with local designers that know how to construct a garment correctly if your interested. All in all, Vamp is not worth the wait for that day when it is ACTUALLY open.
Such a bummer this place is...
Who is running this store by the way??? Ive been down to Manayunk not once or twice NOW FOUR times to go in .. and its been closed I've been at 11...again at 1 ...again at 3 during the week AND on the weekend. I don't get it-
You don't run a store when you feel like it?
Totally not vintage or consignment and if you look at the dress in the window.. the hem is in a squiggly line. 70 bucks for Garbage...
NEXXXXT..im over it
After being sent on a wild goose hunt looking for the only consignment store in Manayunk, my expectations were very high for Vamp. Vamp did not fail me. In fact, it exceeded my expectations and I can honestly admit that I have fallen in love with this store.
The neatness of the store does not give it the air of a consignment shop. You would think you were shopping in another boutique. Ever item is immaculate. Ninety five percent of the items look as if they have never been worn. All the items are brand name as well, Nine West, Fendi, Pucci... You name it. Vamp also has a pretty good selection of vintage wear as well.
I also LOVE this place because it is a haven for people with larger feet. There was such a good selection of cute shoes in sizes 9 and 10. A rarity for thrift and consignment stores.
Also, the owner, Teresa Davis, was the sweetest and nicest person that I had encountered in Manayunk that day. If I could give Vamp 6 stars, I would.
I went in here with high hopes, and I came out with none. It doesn't even seem like it's vintage or consignment, though! I was looking for something hip, and it seemed to have all recent (by that I mean 2000's, '90's) clothing for middle-aged women. Not my thing, but it may be for some!
