3 reviews for Valley Gardens Golf Course
Well, Santa Cruz County is what it is and will only allow existing golf courses to quench the thirst of the putter wielding public. For its part, Valley Gardens is a great course for the beginner, retiree and children. A fairly standard track with small postage stamp sized greens, it offers a challenge and an opportunity for heroics.
I think the going rate is still under $20 which makes it affordable and a discounted replay makes playing 18 holes a great deal. Whether it is your first time out, you are doing a three club challenge amongst friends or having a family outing, this is a great spot to spend a couple hours.
Special note: Although it is exciting to hit balls into the mobile home park when you pull or hook a drive on #2, you should really try to avoid doing so as they have and will continue to press charges - yes you are liable. I'm talking to you snap/banana hook buddy.
Also, the founder/owner's home is located to the left of the 4th green along with an awesome golden retreiver - bonus points for the golf course having an official mascot. Have fun and hit 'em straight.
So I'm what you would call a 'golfer'. The quotations are necessary because though I like to golf, I'm new at it and not someone who is a GOLFER! I don't have my own clubs although my birthday is coming up pretty soon, and I'm used to public courses down in LA. So, there's my bias. If you regularly golf at pasatiempo, well, then you're just a better person overall than I am. Good for you. You've made it to the top!
Anyway, I really enjoyed Valley Gardens. It's an executive course so it was challenging for us beginners and could still be a lot of fun for avid weekend golfers that are a bit better than I am. The course itself is really pretty and has a lot to offer in terms of variety and challenges.
They were also very friendly and easy to work with. I called the morning we wanted to go golfing and they found me a great tee time that wasn't too crowded. When we got there, I rented some clubs that had seen better days but what do I care? I don't know the difference between good clubs and bad clubs yet. I barely know the difference between a 9 iron and a pitching wedge.
Their driving range is not a full range, basically just some tees and a net but it was nice to warm up a bit beforehand. The prices were a little more expensive than I'm used to but when you pay for $8 golf, you get $8 golf. It was about $18 per person to golf which is pretty reasonable compared to de la viega or pasatiempo. All in all, it was a really nice way to spend a Sunday morning.
