my friend and i stopped by valerie confections during their fall open house. we went on the day that they were sampling their coffee crunch cake and lemon crunch cake, which is apparently a recreation of a popular cake from now-closed blum's bakery. my friend and i requested a slice of each flavor and shared. both of us moaned in delight after the first bite. the cakes are dense and moist with scrumptious light whipped cream frosting and covered with large pieces of "crunch" (dry and airy in texture). they are quite pricey ($45 for a 9" cake) but if you're in the mood to indulge for a special occasion, these will fit the bill well. just make sure to call 48 hours in advance -- each cake is made to order because it has a limited shelf life due to the crunchy bits becoming soggy after several hours.
we were also able to sample a few other things, including their almond toffee treats and individual chocolates. all high in quality and outstanding in taste.
i bought a couple of their petit fours (lemon and orange, both delicious!), a jar of strawberry vanilla bean preserves, and a duo of chocolates (liquid caramel and dark chocolate truffle).
they also sell chocolate skulls, individually and in sets of 3, beautifully packaged.
This place is amazing!
I had the luckiest day, by popping into Valerie's the day they were giving out free samples of just about everything in the store! It was all delectably delicious. There are just enough options for it to not be overwhelming. You can taste the ingredient are quality. They really care about what they're doing. I'm going to be buying Christmas gifts from here without a doubt. And a treat for me as well!
