16 reviews for Valentine's Men's Grooming Salon
A completely professional, unpretentious salon for guys that goes out of their way to make sure you have a cut that suits you. The staff is amazing and the prices are more than fair.
Guys: stop abusing your hair at Rudy's, pony up a few more bucks and get a proper cut at Valentine's, ok?
The boys are professionals. You get what you want: a pleasant atmosphere, time and space to relax, some real hair science at the hands of a cat like Roderick or Valentine, and a nice, relaxing shampoo. A little more expensive than my guy downtown, but if your look is important you'll never give the cost a second thought.
Very good value. $35 + tip for a great haircut and shampoo. Friendly staff; great atmosphere. Free soda/water/latte and Marvin Gaye on the stereo are nice touches.
What can I say that other reviewers haven't said already?
This place has the best quality service & results for your dollar in town, bar none. I've paid twice as much for results that were not quite as good.
I had Roderick, and he did a great job, even with my intentionally vague direction. (I wanted him to try something new with my hair, and he did a great job).
I even mentioned my biggest pet peeve with haircut; getting hair in my ear canal. When I came home & checked, there was none. First time that ever happened!
After my first visit, I even got a card in the mail a few days later, thanking me for becoming a new client. That was almost over the top.
AH.... I wish they did women's hair here...
My coworker found this place when he was doing an online search. My son has really curly hair, which everyone in the past has been able to ruin. That is until... VALENTINES!
It is official. I will never take my son anywhere else. The service is more than anyone could ask for. It is no wonder they won Best of Western Washington!! I continue to refer every man I know to this place.
Another thing I really like is that they are very flexible as far as getting appointments in, I usually take Isaiah on Sunday's, and they are always able to get him in.
I am going to their Best of Western Washington celebration this weekend...
This is the place where I get my haircut every two to three weeks. Valentine and the crew are awesome. I get my cut from Martin, who btw, is brilliant with the blades. I usually tell Martin to do whatever he feels like and his judgement has never been off.
At Valentine's, you will feel pampered and like one reviewer says "a million bucks." I'm a full-time student and worker, and it's one of the few things/places that I look forward to for relaxation.
I know. It's a men's salon. In Greenwood of all places. But the prices are great and alot of my male folk go here to see Martin. But they're too lazy to give him the cred he deserves. A-holes! Dude can do any type of hair: kinky hair, straight hair, short hair, barely there hair (he refuses to do faux hawks- it's all or nothing baby- but you didnt hear that from me). The place is quite nice and I could sleep on those couches.
Even though it's a boy's place it doesnt smell like boy. Or weed...like some other boys shops I will not mention.
07/01/08: I guess I'm not the only one that's thinking the same, congrats guys!:

Yeah, I was impressed when I went there. At first, I was a bit guarded about paying 30 dollars for a hair cut. But, I knew that what I wanted to achieve with the particular style wasn't going to happen at supercuts or the like, which is where I always went. For a typical dude, with a simple cut, it's not that hard to do. Having said that, I've had numerous people who managed to fuck up the word simple. With that being said......
I let the cost issue go and just went with the flow. I got there and was greeted very nicely. I was asked to have a seat and they would be right with me. They brought me some water and a glass. What? NICE. Just chillin to the music and the nice vibe of energy. Then I get my hair cut by Breck who was nice and pleasant. They all take pride in their work.
After getting my hair cut, I was escorted back to get my hair washed and massaged by this nice girl, and the massage was awesome. The massage ended and I then had my hair styled. I left a very happy customer. If you want your hair done right and you are rather meticulous and care about your hairs appearance, then I would highly recommend it. If you are tolerant of a decent cut that will recover in a few weeks, then you may just want to stick with Supercuts. Hopefully, you'll only new a FEW weeks to let the scalping grow out. :)
valentine cuts my hair to perfection - and my brother's, my step-dad's, my ex-boyfriends and a lot of my friends. i've been recommending it for over ten years and every person i have ever sent there has kept going back. other stylists that work on my hair are always impressed by the accuracy and quality of the cut.
they are sometimes running late (but only because they really pay attention and take time with each guest!) and the gracious staff always makes the wait pleasant. although only valentine cuts my hair, i have heard great things about all their stylists. they will be revealing two new private rooms soon for their additional services, so i look forward to hearing how people like that.
valentine is also very generous and makes an effort to give back to the community, and hosts great parties for the greenwood art walk. overall, two thumbs up!
I'm a fairly "thrifty" guy when it comes to haircuts...it isn't that I don't like spending money, I just prefer to spend it on things besides my hair. I've always considered it to be pretty easy and not worth the added money to go to an upscale spot. I've changed my mind. Yes, Valentine's will run you more than some other places...but you do truly get what you pay for. Everything is A+.
Good people, great haircuts, great place to hang out and talk--what more can you ask for?
Recently moved to Seattle and had a lot of anxiety trusting someone to cut my hair. I am really glad that the folks at Valentine's were there to make it a perfect experience. You have to experience it to believe it! Looking forward to many more visits.
The place is pure win.
Cool people, exceptional services, comfortable & clean environment.
The people are good about hearing what you like and then elaborating on that beyond what someone w/o their experience could suggest. The end results are excellent.
The work they do here will make you think of them first next time you need their services.
Guys, after moving to Seattle from Chicago 2 years ago I was about to give up on finding someone to cut my hair. I went to a barber, who was good, paid $60 @ Ciba for a mediocre haircut, sat @ Rudy's waiting for a barber for another disappointing cut.
Then one day, I decided to check out Valentine's. On the outside, the salon doesn't look like much. However, on the inside is an hip upscale comfortable space, with great music and an air of professionalism.
I wasn't in the door for more than 10sec. when one of Valentine's beautiful assistants offered to take my coat and make me a Latte. I ordered a cafe mocha, grabbed a magazine and relaxed. About 10 min later, I was escorted to a comfortable over sized leather club chair for my cut.
Valentine discussed the type of cut I wanted and made suggestions. After which he began to clip away.
When he was finished, I was escorted to the shampoo room where I was given a shampoo and scalp massage. After the shampoo my hair was styled. It was the best haircut I've had in a long time.
All this for $30. More than Rudy's to be sure, but less than what I paid @ Salon Ciba. I highly recommend Valentine and commend him on his attentive staff and the fantastic atmosphere of his salon.
The only downside is the lack of parking on Greenwood, but the side streets are usually ok.
Man I love this Neighborhood barbershop . It's very diverse they do ALL types of hair. It's a true Gentleman salon. They should call this place Cheers because Everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came. The Atmosphere is great. The barbers are skilled and knowledgeable. I walk way satisfied every time.
So I had to abandon my very reliable Solé and Jenney Cooper in Emeryville, CA and move to Seattle. I found out about Valentine's while still in the SF Bay area even before I became a bonafide Seattle-ite, and have been going to Martin (who Valentine recommended that I go to based on the kind of hair I had) every three weeks since then. I still think Jenney is awesome, but Martin knows what to do with my hair like no other. Also the conversation in there is extremely interesting and the espresso drinks on arrival are an added plus. During my last haircut the conversation was centered around whether active boxers should be allowed to own boxing production companies, a la de la Hoya and the potential conflict of interest; and whether the dropping gas prices would lull people into driving ecologically unsound (and painfully large and slow) vehicles again because of he bling factor.
So in other words - this place rocks...
I go to Valentines because the services are top-notch. V is like a surgeon with his clippers! My wife is in the industry and I could get haircuts for free or on trade but gladly pay full price and tip for a consistently great haircut! My hair is dark and thick and my scalp is as white as they come, yet V can fade me up from skin and it looks sweet!
