I dont think I've ever spent this much time in a barbers chair as I did today, but every moment was well worth it. Cutting hair is a science for Valentine. He and his staff really take their time making sure you get what you ask for, and especially making sure it looks good!
When I first arrived I walked in without an appointment and I was greeted by two attractive young women who asked about what I wanted to do with my hair. At this point I knew this place was no joke. They sat me down and I was hooked up! They offered me a drink and I sat down to wait for my turn. Although, next time I'll be sure to make an appointment before showing up like that.
As soon as you walk in you notice just how clean this place is. The staff is super friendly and they go the distance to make sure you get exactly what you asked for. I had about three people look at my hair, and Nikki did a great job! She took her time and made sure it was right, and I can truly say I've never had a better cut than the one I got today. Valentine is a very down to earth guy and will hook you up! He knows what he's talking about and he's been doing it for years.
If you're on the hunt for a good barber I suggest giving this place a try. They also do pedicures if that's your cup of tea, but as for me, I like rough feet and I need my callouses haha!
Last thing to mention is the good music they were playing. None of that Hot97 rap stuff...these tunes were a great touch. 80's and 90's type stuff, but not wallflowers and hootie and the blowfish. I know that's not the best explanation but trust me, you wont be disappointed, so just get off your laptop and make the drive to greenwood. do it........now! go ahead....clean those dorito fingers off and get in your car.
ps. no, there aren't any dudes walking out of here with "gayhawks"........its a classy joint. take your gayhawks to supercuts -

Valentine's is a true oasis in Seattle. I've been getting my haircut there for the past several years and every time I walk out of the place, I thank my lucky stars for having found such a great place. Thank you, Valentine. See you soon...
BTW - If you had a bad haircut there, it was probably your own fault... -

Cozy lighting and soft sectionals cushion the short wait to a damn good men's haircut at Valentine's. My sons get their spoil on here, and they love the convivial boy scene, the complimentary root beer, the good-natured ribbing, and the skillful, painstaking haircut they get from Valentine. Stylish and sweet, Valentine's got himself a cozy Man Lair that feels both swanky and relaxed, swathed in earth tones, lit elegantly, and peopled by guys-across every pay level and profession imaginable-who know that a good haircut makes a difference. Everyone I've seen leaves happy, and looking well shorn.
The haircut isn't absurdly expensive, either; it's more than fair, given that my son-whose confidence is known to wax and wane-leaves saying "Valentine's an artist. I don't think I'll be letting anyone else touch my hair from now on." -

I'm not sure why people give such ratings. During my time there, I saw every man coming out of the salon with a gayhawk. That's a great look if you're celebrating new legislation in Cap Hill, but not if you're a regular Joe getting a haircut.
I had my hair cut by one of valentine's assistants. He took the time to ask what I wanted. He gave a decent haircut. I was happy. He then said V had to cone over to do QA.
Then some guy who was dressed like Duckie from the 80's movie prety in pink comes over. After a quick flurry of scissors, he turns my nice masculine haircut not, you guessed it, yet another faux hawk. I was NOT happy.
What's the point of person a asking you want you want if person b comes over and makes it look the same.
Yes the decor is tmade to appeal to men. The dearth of a real men's salon in the city is the only reason that I can see that this place gets decent reviews.
As I left, the owner was over taking pictures of some guy in a chair holding a cigar. Guess what his hair looked like. -

How can I compete with so many reviews? To put it simple, this place is warm, comfortable, masculine and they provide some of the best male oriented spa services around. Valentine and Emily set the bar for other men's grooming shops in Seattle.
Now they need to offer massage and waxing services, I think their shop would be complete. -

Found this place after searching on my bf's behalf for "a place that does man hair." Apparently he was afraid of going to a girly hair salon and coming out like Dorothy Hamill.
Impressive, classy interior with big "boyfriend" waiting room chairs (or "girffriend" chairs in this case). Only 1-2 people were being served at any given time, so the environment was extremely relaxed. I was surprised how full-service it was for the price; maybe just because they have separate little rooms for the haircut, washtub, and style.
This would be a four star review except that Valentine's went for extra credit:
-- Was asked a couple of times if I'd like a beverage while waiting
-- Andes mints at reception
-- Valentine came over to thank me for bringing the bf in
Goes without saying that the haircut itself was beautiful, stylish, and neat. -

A completely professional, unpretentious salon for guys that goes out of their way to make sure you have a cut that suits you. The staff is amazing and the prices are more than fair.
Guys: stop abusing your hair at Rudy's, pony up a few more bucks and get a proper cut at Valentine's, ok? -
Review from Chris F.
Yeah, I was impressed when I went there. At first, I was a bit guarded about paying 30 dollars for a hair cut. But, I knew that what I wanted to achieve with the particular style wasn't going to happen at supercuts or the like, which is where I always went. For a typical dude, with a simple cut, it's not that hard to do. Having said that, I've had numerous people who managed to fuck up the word simple. With that being said......
I let the cost issue go and just went with the flow. I got there and was greeted very nicely. I was asked to have a seat and they would be right with me. They brought me some water and a glass. What? NICE. Just chillin to the music and the nice vibe of energy. Then I get my hair cut by Breck who was nice and pleasant. They all take pride in their work.
After getting my hair cut, I was escorted back to get my hair washed and massaged by this nice girl, and the massage was awesome. The massage ended and I then had my hair styled. I left a very happy customer. If you want your hair done right and you are rather meticulous and care about your hairs appearance, then I would highly recommend it. If you are tolerant of a decent cut that will recover in a few weeks, then you may just want to stick with Supercuts. Hopefully, you'll only new a FEW weeks to let the scalping grow out. :) -

AH.... I wish they did women's hair here...
My coworker found this place when he was doing an online search. My son has really curly hair, which everyone in the past has been able to ruin. That is until... VALENTINES!
It is official. I will never take my son anywhere else. The service is more than anyone could ask for. It is no wonder they won Best of Western Washington!! I continue to refer every man I know to this place.
Another thing I really like is that they are very flexible as far as getting appointments in, I usually take Isaiah on Sunday's, and they are always able to get him in.
I am going to their Best of Western Washington celebration this weekend... -

The place is pure win.
Cool people, exceptional services, comfortable & clean environment.
The people are good about hearing what you like and then elaborating on that beyond what someone w/o their experience could suggest. The end results are excellent.
The work they do here will make you think of them first next time you need their services. -

A couple of months short of a year ago, I gave this special place a solid review. And now...guess what?
Nothing has changed.
I've been buried in school and work. I've been too busy to even think about stopping here and relaxing for a minute. I'm getting more than a little outgrown by my hair. Today, I realize that I've waited too long.
Martin, as usual, is low-key, personable and attentive. He's also right on the money. Without a single second thought, he knows the cut that I like (it's been months since I've been in), needs no reminders and doesn't miss a beat. He checks his work and then double checks it. He's a perfectionist. He knows his sh*t.
Every time that I'm here, I realize that there is no other place that I should be going for an outstanding cut, style and the gold standard treatment.

Before going to Valentine's, the last truly great haircut I received happened ten years ago at a tiny, trashy, smelly little salon inside a mall department store named "Younkers" in Iowa City, Iowa. There, a young, cute rocker-chick named Kristen would take an hour to lovingly work on my head and we developed the kind of stylist-client rapport I never thought I'd find again. There were a lot of reasons to move away from Iowa City, but Kristen at Younkers' salon and the spicy gnocchi at Givanni's are two things I miss about the place.
I've lived in Seattle for 5 years, now. I haven't tried a LOT of places for a haircut, because, frankly, I don't have the time. So, I just lowered my expectations and just hoped I'd magically stumble upon another lucky find like Kristen one of these days.
After three cuts now from Roderick at Valentine's, I have to say he's making a definite run for Kristen-like stature in my pantheon of hair stylists. Roderick listens, he takes the time to learn your hair and your head and, importantly, how they best fit together. The cuts not only look good when you walk out the door but also a month later.
I also appreciate the atmosphere -- masculine, but not in a obnoxious way. It's not overdone or pretentious; it's welcoming and comfortable. It would be really easy to overdue the whole "men's clubroom" aesthetic, or veer too far into either a "meathead" or "metrosexual" vibe, but they nailed it spot on.
I also appreciate that they wash your hair AFTER the cut so you're not shaking off microhairs all day. It's clear that they care about delivering great professional service and getting to know the client. I wish I had found this place when I first moved to Seattle. -

I had my first appointment at Valentine's today, and I couldn't be happier. Everything exceeded all of my expectations, and it was an awesome experience. Valentine's knowledge, skill, and demeanor are head and shoulders above any other person I've seen for a shave and haircut. He's very good at what he does. The main thing I look for when I go to get any service is whether I feel taken care of, and when I left I not only looked great, I felt miraculous. I really enjoy seeing people that have a passion for what they do, and I can say I will absolutely be coming back anytime I need a haircut. Everything was wonderful. The attention to detail, level of service, and care taken surpass anything I've seen. I simply cannot say enough about how happy this experience made me.

My girlfriend surprised me & took me here for a pedicure for my birthday. I had always joked that I wanted one when she went out, so she did her research and found Valentine's. This place was awesome.
I'd never known that people could pay such close attention to my feet. I felt totally pampered, in a good & non-awkward way, and the staff there was so friendly.
The atmosphere, environment and treatment you get really makes you feel relaxed & totally comfortable. Emily was a great, and if you make an appointment, she won't do you wrong. I think I will definitely look into their other services as well.
Thank goodness it is finally flip flop weather. I'm proud (and I think my GF finally is too) to show off my new look. -

This shop isn't just full of class it's the whole school!! I arrived and was promptly greeted and found the environment relaxing and enjoyed a few Andes mints while I read a book full of old Seattle pics turning pages to classic jazz music. When I got in for the cut, Valentine took great care of me and I thought I had the gold and platinum record on customer service but it turns out I'm a 2nd printing next to this shop. The hair cut was top notch and the shave even better! it's been some time since I've seen someone drop this much style....if you're blue and you don't know where to go to why don't you go to Valentines....it's as good at it gets.....Great JOB!!!!

I went to Valentine's before my wedding because my normal place for haircuts didn't do pedicures (We were going to Jamaica and I figured I should look nice for the wife). I normally go to Weldon Barber (which is amazing and they give you a free shave on Wednesday's).
Parking was a little tough around here so leave time for that.
Upon arriving I received a small french press coffee to enjoy and then had my feet worked on. The experience was great, they took great care (although it would have been nicer if they took a little bit longer to do their pedicure for the money you pay). Personally I wouldn't have liked getting a haircut here because the seats are all next to each other and you're very close to the other customers. I prefer a more private booth.
All-in-all a great place to go, I would go here again but I definitely prefer Weldon Barber for my normal haircut. -

I haven't yelped in almost 2 years, it seems. It came to be that when I yelped a place, things would start to go pear-shaped. But these guys deserve to get their stats juked. This place is for real. Good haircuts, very courteous service, and fairly easily to book every 4-5 weeks. No pretension or ostentatious decorum here. Almost all their business seems to be by word of mouth or personal referral. Consider me a loyal customer for as long I live in Seattle.

I go to Valentines because the services are top-notch. V is like a surgeon with his clippers! My wife is in the industry and I could get haircuts for free or on trade but gladly pay full price and tip for a consistently great haircut! My hair is dark and thick and my scalp is as white as they come, yet V can fade me up from skin and it looks sweet!

I had not stopped by Valentine's for a while, totally new look and atmosphere. Before it was a very cool place with outstanding quality of service. However they have taken it to a new level entirely. They have achieved a true synergy of substance and style, exactly what one looks for but rarely finds in this type of establishment. A trip to Valentine's is time and money well spent. They dont have all these five star ratings for nothing...........

The boys are professionals. You get what you want: a pleasant atmosphere, time and space to relax, some real hair science at the hands of a cat like Roderick or Valentine, and a nice, relaxing shampoo. A little more expensive than my guy downtown, but if your look is important you'll never give the cost a second thought.

Best place for guys to get their hair cut. Valentine has crafted an awesome atmosphere that should be the model for all modern "men's salons". Prices are good and the experience is exceptional. Very relaxing environment.

Special event necessitated haircut for child, age 6, but we couldn't get in at Johnny's on short notice. They suggested this guy, Valentine. I'd heard of the place, close by, good reputation. They booked our appointment ... Great! We arrived on time, yet we weren't immediately greeted, and waited several uncomfortable minutes in the deserted setting ... ok, maybe artsy ... but without pleasant ambiance ... in fact, the vibe was negative, almost sinister, given the eerie wait to check-in ... we did have an appointment, after all. Finally, we were checked in by a polite woman, who disappeared into the back rooms from whence she came. After another long wait (How rude!), Mr. Valentine emerges from the back, heads over to a salon-type chair and sets up accessories, puts a board on the chair (to elevate little ones) and looks our way, but there is no greeting, no gesture, nor any practical communication. It seemed hostile, on top of wierd. I took the little guy, friendly and inquisitive by nature, over to where Valentine was waiting (and staring), and his hesitance at the altered chair was impatiently dismissed by an obviously ill-tempered Valentine (no longer a "Mister" in my eyes). We should have left then, but we'd invested time and effort, it was late, and he still needed a haircut. Child finally seated, the snipping begins without any discussion with me about style, etc ! When I began to speak on the subject, he stopped, glared, then resumed clipping without response. I backed away, hoping for the best ... perhaps the artiste musn't be distracted. My chair was a far distance from the styling area, not in earshot, but soon I could see that there was a verbal exchange, not unusual ... except the child was sobbing while Valentine continued snipping, seeming to chat amicably, and actually smiling! As I went to check on the tears, the haircut was done, but the child wouldn't talk until we outta there ... he'd felt teased and intimidated by Valentine, who obviously didn't wish to converse or answer questions, and made reference to a remark as "stupid" and then put him down for crying over it. Mr. Wonderful charged us $30 (twice the price at Johnny's for a child) for the Say-What! haircut (that I could have done better at home if I'd bought clippers from a nearby drugstore, w/o the drama and trauma). Creepy experience. We felt victimized. Why is this guy is so well regarded!? He's no cool daddy-o! HE CHOSE TO BE RUDE! HE MISTREATED A CHILD! ... and ... THE HAIRCUT WAS MEDIOCRE! Johnny's Barbershop is far superior, fairly priced, and just a mile or so north on Greenwood Ave.
