Vail Plaza Hotel & Club
5 reviews for Vail Plaza Hotel & Club
Spent five nights at this hotel in December. Overall this hotel is good - nothing wrong with it but certainly nothing to rave about either.
The rooms are comfortable and are your standard hotel room. The amenities in the hotel - gym, pool, hot-tub are all nice and no complaints with them. For food they do a nice breakfast and the hotel restaurant was OK. Location is very good - in Vail village, 5 minute walk to Vista Bahn chair.
If you can get a good deal at this hotel (Vail can be quite expensive) it is a good option.
I need to swoop in here and say a few worlds on behalf of Vail Plaza Hotel & Club...
My fiance were in Vail for a week doing our bi-annual gravity worship when we decided to take a full day and check out (literally) every single hotel in Vail Village.
We hopped on our bikes and started the tour. The goal? The best place for the least money. No leaf was going to go unturned.

The Vail Plaza won handily.
Location-
It's hard to beat... not only are you right at the midpoint (or close) between Lionshead and Vail Village proper. But it is set back from the hustle and bustle of the main drag. The Valet (free) is accessible from just off the traffic circle for an easy shot onto I-70. Oh, yea, and it's in Vail.... how's that for location eh?
Ambiance-
Very recently built or renovated the entire place radiates a calm and welcoming vibe. We really enjoy the lodge-esque feel of the common areas as well as our room. The one downside is that the hallways are like a labyrinth. For the first few journeys to the room we had to really navigate! The bathroom was a bit austere as well, I like big tubs....
Price-
$124.00 per night (July 8th ish) They were the lowest price in all of Vail... other than that terrible place at the back of Lionshead (name escapes me) but that place isn't even remotely in the same category.
Amenities-
Free valet
3 hot tubs (small hot tubs, but hey.... whats a hot tub for?)
Extremely helpful and gracious staff helped us with several things
Cheap drinks at the bar ($3 Coors Light?)
Live music in the lounge
My fiance got a message which she really enjoyed, and it wasn't a bank buster.
All in all- We would absolutely stay here again during the summer. We have some other favorite winter spots.
This place is a SOLID hotel in Vail Village.
Nice resort. Has free boot and ski check.
The rooms were comfy. The outside hottubs were awesome.
The bar was nice.
The front desk was very helpful.
Pricy but then again its Vail.
They do not offer cheap ski tickets.
A small group of us stayed here for a few days and it was GREAT!
The staff were fantastic, the rooms and commons areas clean and attractive, beds comfy, bathrooms spacious, gym very usable, and the 3 hot tubs + pool perfect after a day of skiing.
The main restaurant is FANTASTIC! We had an incredible meal there on the first night that we could not stop talking about. The Executive Chef came out and said hello to our table and everyone loved their meal - each person seemed to discover a new, mysterious favorite ingredient! Really amazing food, and incredible service from Bryan (the manager?).
We stopped by the hotel bar a few different times and found the prices to be a happy surprise. We had a variety of drinks and the pizzas were great. The only complaint would be the same as a previous reviewer - it was closed early once with no explanation when we went down. But the staff there was really fantastic and it's neat that they put the hometown of each bartender on their name tag - great way to strike up a conversation! Andrew was our favorite.
My massage at the spa was one of the best I've ever had and the prices weren't much more than at home. The cleaning staff could have done a better job in the spa shower area - it wasn't gross, just not up to par with the rest of the spa experience.
We thought the location was perfect - only a block away from hotels that cost way more money. It was an easy walk back from the mountain, and an even easier walk back across the street from the Bully Ranch after a few of their killer mudslides. :)
I would highly recommend this place!!! We were there right after the new ownership took over, so maybe the transition process explains some of the lower reviews? I can't imagine a better experience for your money in Vail!
The room was great. The bed was comfortable, size acceptable, noise level from adjoining room satisfactory, nice sized bathroom and shower, etc...
My main three concerns with the hotel were this:
1) The restaurants just close before their scheduled time. I was craving the salmon with lobster mashed potatoes advertised all over the hotel. When we went, the lights were out and no one was home almost an hour before closing. We ended up ordering room service and they wouldn't make me the lobster mashed potatoes.
2) I paid for two nights separately. When we checked in I indicated the check-out date was wrong. They then saw the two separate charges (which was supposed to have been combined to one reservation) and said we were fine. When we returned on Day 2 our keycards didn't work. What irritated me was the girl at the front desk said mine must have been demagnetized. I get real pissy when someone tries to pull one over on me. My husbands was "demagnetized" as well. Tell the truth, the reservations weren't linked so our cards didn't work because they were set to expire after day 1.
3) finally, the breakfast buffet. GREAT fruit and you can get two eggs made to order, but $18 when there are no pancakes, waffles, french toast, etc... The waiters were VERY attentive but the food was just so-so. We really should have just searched at the farmer's market or in Vail Village for some breakfast.
Overall I am likely to stay again as long as my expectations are lower and I don't anticipate eating at the hotel.
