9 reviews for Vail Marriott Mountain Resort & Spa
I travelled for work last summer to Vail, and stayed at the beautiful Marriott Mountain Resort.
The hotel is stunning, and is located in the heart of a ski village. It looks like you are in a Swiss village. The architecture is splendid, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you busy. The rooms are nice and large, and the gym was sufficient.
We were lucky enough to stay during Oktoberfest, so we were able to get into a little trouble as well.
Would have been ideal in the snowy winter, but beggars can't be chosers...
I was apprehensive staying here after reading some of the other reviews here and on TripAdvisor, but was happy with our stay overall.
Now please recognize that I stayed for free using Marriott points. I've never paid more than $200 a nite for a room personally, and if I'd paid cash here it would have been $400 a nite for the time period.
Check-in was easy. Quick and efficient valet parking, bell-boys and front desk staff. 5 stars.
Room = 3 stars. More like a standard Marriott room than a resort location room, but I was here to ski and see the area, so not too concerned about the room. It was clean, decent bathroom and everything worked, and it was a mountain view room with balcony so props for that.
Ski valet = 5 stars. Nothing better than having someone hand you your skis each morning and take them from you each afternoon. For those folks that aren't up to carrying their own skis, they'll load them in a cart and wheel them right to the gondola for you.
Now I've read alot of debate about the walk to the gondola from this location. Yep, it ain't a slopeside hotel, but its damn close. Gonna say it took me about 4 minutes to make the walk from the ski valet to the gondola line. Its out the door, along a short walk sidewalk, thru another hotels parking lot, and boom you are there. So quit whining whiners, buck up, and do a warm up walk. And carry your skis while you are at it.
4 stars for the work-out room. Standard equipment and decent size. Love the fresh fruit each morning.
4 stars for the outdoor pool.
3 stars for only one hot-tub.
1 stars for the restaurant and room service. At their listed prices, I didnt even give them a chance. Make the walk into Lionshead village for someonething better than hotel food is sure to be.
4 stars for proximity to Lionshead village. You are pretty much right there.
3 stars for lobby, lounge, bar area. Pretty standard stuff.
4 stars for having on-premise ski shop. Didn't use it, but nice to know it was there.
I'd stay here again--on points that is.

OK it took 2 rooms for me to get the right spot and another board member 3 rooms but what a great spot. We were there for 4 days of board meetings and yes we were working. Memorable people - Alex from Venezuela! Gabby the concierge, Lupita and Erica in Catering and Josh on the front drive. Try room 416 for a view of Battle mountain and the river too. Wonderful spot.
Wow. This is a great place to play "tourist" if you live here in Colorado and a real treat for an out-of-towner.
My buddy hooked me and some friends up for a 3 night stay in Vail where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano.
Check in was easy. Valet parking, ski concierge service and friendly staff. The lobby is semi rustic, warm and comfortable but not super fancy.
The lobby bar- Very cozy, lots of couches and great drink menu. Live music at night and always seems to be packed with a fun crowd.
The room- Well, we got lucky and got the top floor suite. The room was incredible. Huge, 3 bedroom 3 1/2 bathroom with heated balcony. 2 fireplaces and a super modern kitchen. In room humidifiers and comfy furnishings to kick off your boots and relax on.
Food- Expen$$ive but good. I HIGHLY recommend going to the breakfast buffet at Ocotillo. Made to order omelettes, belgium waffles, cheeses, pastries, juice bar and piles and piles of bacon.
Room service is beyond pricey. Beware the 22% gratuity on top of the already outrageous menu prices.
The location is not the best but a shuttle can get you anywhere and comes every 5-10 minutes. The closest lift is to Game Creek and the Gondola.
Concierge service was helpful and the staff is always eager to help.
Overall it was great escaping Denver for a weekend and pretending to be a tourist. The Marriott makes it too easy!
You walk in and they will give you a free back massage right in the lobby. Just straddle one of those massage seats and squish your head through the hole (where you know your lips and cheeks are being pushed through and look all puckered). They ask for no payment, but obviously it is nice to tip the masseuse for the 10 minute tease.
This Marriott is in a great location, and anything that is too far to walk to because it is too freezing can be reached by jumping on one of the free city shuttles that come pretty often.
There was three of us to the room, My boyfriend, my mother, and myself. Don't ask any questions, that's just what we did ok? There were two beds... come on... You are strange. Anyway, two huge beds, a nice layout and the best part, a great big bathroom. The bathroom had double sinks, a bath and a separate tiled shower with glass doors. The toilet was a bit low for my liking, but the toilet seat was smooth and soft and was comfy. I think about these things.
They have an indoor and outdoor hot tub, and you would wonder why one would I even bother with the indoor tub...so scoot your cold bum out about 15 feet to the tub under the sky. There will usually be people in the outdoor tub, but is fun to meet drunk out-of-state tourists who don't think that altitude affects their tolerance to alcohol, especially when they get in the hot tub. I like going in the tub outside because I like to make couples feel uncomfortable. I know they want to snuggle and smooch and I like to bounce around in the tub, by myself or with my boyfriend and hang around and talk to people. Haha, how mean is that?
The hotel is crowded in the winter, but that made it more fun. The hotel restaurant had a tasty, yet expensive breakfast buffet, which I happily went-to-town on.
The hotel always has coffee and sometimes cookies and other treats up the stairs right next to the restaurant entrance. People like to take more than they are supposed to, so try to get the free food while you see it.
The bar is always full of patrons, mostly people who are watching the latest exciting game and pretending that they just got back from a hard day of skiing.
* Star one is for the free massages... I tried to go back for seconds, but they caught me.
** Free is good star two is for the free treats, coffee, tea, and cider daily, which would hold me over until I would get to the room
*** Lather it up star three is for a great big shower, which had tons of power and gusto
**** Morning lush star four is for a great buffet and good wait staff... Obviously there from out of the country for a great season of skiing... Who would blame them?

For the price and location, I was expecting much higher level of quality and refinement. This place feels more like a crappy timeshare than a high quality resort hotel. Lobby area and much of the public spaces felt really dumpy.
My room did have a gas fireplace, which could be controlled with a timer. That was a pleasant surprise.
This is NOT a ski in/ski out hotel. You will have to schlep your gear a few blocks to the slopes. The Marriott is also not in the main part of town. You have to either take a bus or walk about 15 minutes to get to where most of Vail's nightlife is.
I was annoyed with the amount of advertising at the hotel. The key cards advertised a car as did placards in the room. Tacky, tacky.

This hotel that calls itself a resort leaves alot to be desired. It is not the nicest hotel in town, however, from the prices you are definitely expecting it to be. Decor is reminiscent of a mom and pop B&B from the 70's. Morning buffet is overpriced and just cafeteria style quality. As usual it is staffed with college aged kid's from other countries trying to make a buck to feed their ski habit. Their head is still on the slopes, Or they may have fallen on it one to many. The lobby bar has local musician's playing nightly adding a nice touch to the ambiance of the lobby, I just can't say they are good musician's. OK at best. Room's are very tiny and expensive and had to change my non working key three times during the week stay due to ..... (no one has an explanation). I won't go back and I don't know why Vail is so widely loved. Europe and Whistler are much more beautiful and well rounded choices.

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was. Ours had a kitchenette, so maybe it was a little on the large side, but seriously, it was big. Bed was excellent, particularly considering that I am never satisfied with hotel beds. The staff members were all quite pleasant, and the concierge desk was particularly helpful. Our package included the breakfast buffet each morning, but I wouldn't pay for it separately. And the mandatory valet parking is kind of a bummer, though sometimes the valet crew will give you a lift into town with one of the handy Volvo courtesy cars that are all over the place.
Stayed here during the summer, so I can't quite comment on ski accessibility, but I did take the Lionshead Gondola up the mountain to hike -- it's about a four minute walk from the hotel, so really, it's not too shabby. Walking to the main part of the village is about 15 minutes, or the shuttle comes quite often and runs until after midnight.
Wonderful hotel and some rooms are equipped with a kitchenette. Great locale near the ski slopes and bar/restaurant area in Vail. Decent sized rooms with balcony and nice lobby foyer area. Sumptious breakfast spread and wonderful staff members. Enjoyed the hot tub/jacuzzi, great to unwind after a tough day on the ski slopes. :)
