Review from Heather S.
San Luis Obispo, CA
The room was clean and spacious, as well as AFFORDABLE and PET FRIENDLY. The location is key. The hotel is located only 1 block from shopping, restaurants, Ice Skating Rink, Movie Theatre and The Heavenly Resort and 2 blocks from Stateline and Casinos.
I gave this Hotel 5 stars for Customer Service. I booked my reservation for the Vagabond Inn using an online booking service.
In my past experiences booking reservations online, if I was unable to make my reservation I still got charged for the room or at the very least lost my deposit. When I was unable to make my reservation I called the Vagabond Inn and spoke with a very nice woman working at the front desk. She was understanding of my hold up and didn't charge me for the night I didn't make it. I was only charged for the nights I actually occupied the room. I really appreciated the sincerity of her friendliness.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it. Next time, I will probably spring for the room with the hot tub and fireplace. -

BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS!
There are budget motels and then there are places like this. Stains EVERYWHERE, on the ceiling even! The TV was tiny, the bathroom was tiny, the shower head was one of those "spray you everywhere with little high-pressure daggers while not really doing anything" models.
Did I mention the bed bugs? Yes? We'll it's worth repeating: THERE WERE VERY VERY HUNGRY BED BUGS! When we told the brain donor at the front desk about the bed bugs, she basically shrugged. I guess it's not the first time she's heard that complaint. Don't walk away from this place, RUN!!!Listed in: Oh Dear God NO!

Best thing about this place was the price- cheap and you can haggle with the owners for a better price. The location was also prime, its probably the closest motel to the gondola and shopping area. Loved the in room jacuzzi, fridge, microwave, bed was super comfy and clean- no bed bugs. Good brand shampoos/soaps, although they didn't give us extras after we used the first set, and we were there for 3 days. Also the shower was tiny, dark, and had a horrible nozzle, so we didn't use it at all, and just bathed in the jacuzzi. One complaint was the joke of a continental breakfast- all they had were tiny cups of weak watery coffee with powdered creamer, and the tiniest muffins i had ever seen. I guess I would stay here again, if the next time i go to Tahoe I'm still unemployed and broke. But I hope I will be able to afford a more luxurious hotel.

This is a budget hotel, and it feels like a budget hotel. My room was reasonably clean, and all the furniture and other items inside the room were in good condition.
Someone with luxurious taste or high expectations of their hotel should not stay here. But if you're looking for a clean bed and a shower, this place should get you by. -

The rooms here are overpriced, but you can haggle with the owner (who is usually the gentleman at the front desk) over the price.
They actually have a few rooms here with in-room jacuzzi tubs. The jacuzzis are nice, but the rooms feel just a little off kilter. It definitely feels like someone was trying to fill out the decor for the sake of filling space.
I took my girlfriend-at-the-time to this place the first time she had been to Tahoe. We only stayed here because most other places were already booked.
We enjoyed the jacuzzi, but definitely overpaid. If you're spending this much money on a room, consider the hotels at the casinos instead. It's about the same price, and feels alot more luxurious. -

We had no problem with the cleanliness except that the sink was clogged! The management and employees are all indian, and they seem a little too greedy when it comes to investing in their business. The breakfast was a water-down coffee with hostess donuts(99 cents)! The one whos cleaning the rooms looked like she was the managers mother. They want to charge big and spend little on their customers.
It is walking distance to casinos and stuff. But would recommend other hotels that are towards the lake and away from the main street because of the noise.
Pricey for what they offer. -

I went to Tahoe during the summer 09 and I stayed here. For the price, I thought this place was pretty decent.
Pros:
The service was very helpful during my stay. Upon entering y room, it smelled of cigarette smoke. I told the front desk and was promptly given a new room and an apology (finally a place that apologizes for their mistakes).
My room was clean. No mysterious stains etc.
The hotel is pet friendly. I took my 70 pound German Shepard and they didn't have a problem with it. There is also a grassy area where they can do their business.
The pool is clean and heated.
Cons:
There were none considering the price that I paid (around $50 a night If I remember correctly).
Conclusion:
For the price, it was a decent hotel. -

2 words: STAY AWAY!
I hope the owners of this place reads this. First off, we booked our room on http://Orbitz.com where they had all the rooms listed for 76.00 All of them, king size bed, queen size bed...whatever it was- 76.00 In the amenities, it listed hot tub, fireplace, etc. We get there, and of course our room has no hot tub. It was one of the things I was looking forward to enjoying during my trip to Tahoe, but I was told that we had to pay extra for a room with a hot tub. So Fuck them. What a way to start off my trip. So our room, it was ok. The bathroom is uber small...so basically if youre not looking to spend a lot, it's an alright place to stay...the office does smell like shit, and the guy who was there, the same guy who told us we had to pay more...I didnt like him much. OH and the internet, my boyfriend couldnt sign onto the wireless even after calling the front desk and getting the password. So not sure if you should look forward to using your laptop there either. I asked my boyfriend what he thought of the place and if he would stay there again. His response? "No." -

We normally stay at Mont Bleu but they've recently changed their dog policy so we went with something nearby that we'd be able to bring the dog. Being a less expensive hotel, it was exactly what we were expecting. The room had a decently comfortable bed, soap and shampoo in the bathroom, they even had a fridge and microwave.
There were some annoyance with our stay. First of all, when we checked in, we were told of and paid the dog fee. We were expecting it and that wasn't the issue. The day after our check-in, I took the dog out in the morning. As soon as we returned to the room, the front desk called my husband and brusquely informed him of the dog fee. Upon being told we were aware of and had paid the fee, he grunted and disconnected. The following day we had a similar conversation. Not a huge deal, just made us question the communication skills amongst the staff.
Secondly, the plumbing was off. The toilet clogged easily (the only non-liquid that was being flushed was toilet paper). The shower was also not hot enough for me although the other half said it was fine. The water pressure in the shower was decent.
So...5 stars because it was exactly what we expected.
-1 star for the lack of communication/annoying dog converstaion
-1 star for the plumbing
