6 reviews for Vagabond Inn
I had a big group staying here for my wedding because of the convenient location and it was the cheapest group price I was quoted among area hotels. We're talking 20 rooms. All in all, their stay was satisfactory. Free breakfast was better than they expected, rooms are pretty clean. But behind the scenes, the fact that this is a smaller hotel definitely shows. They're just not as well-equipped to handle large groups.
The much-touted free wi-fi didn't always work, and the front desk people made my guests call the internet company instead of taking care of it themselves. There were more administrative and customer service hiccups than I would have liked, and depending on who you get at the front desk (especially if it's Daniel), the customer is NOT always right. We found the older woman (forgot her name) and the owner/manager David to be much more accomodating.
They never made the change to one family member's reservation indicating he was arriving a day earlier, resulting in him being turned away when he tried to check in. He and his family had to wander around an unfamiliar city and stayed in a more expensive hotel one night, because we didn't find out until too late and they're from a different country and their cell phones didn't work here. Then I was mysteriously charged for 3 rooms that may not have belonged to our group, and Daniel proceeded to argue with me instead of trying to be nice for all the business I had given them. The manager finally corrected him and made him reverse all the charges, but I had already decided to write this review by then.
So yeah, it's nice not to have to pay for parking, wi-fi, or breakfast. It is probably better for individual parties. But maybe if you have a big group, it would be well worth it to pay more at a nicer hotel so that you don't have to keep calling the hotel during your wedding weekend to make sure they're doing everything right.
This hotel might benefit from stronger training. Good customer service isn't a trait that comes to everyone naturally, and some people really need to be taught how to make people feel welcome and taken care of.

I have read other reviews and sad to see other people didn't have a good experience here.
I went over the Thanksgiving weekend last year. I found the room to be large, the bedspreads nicer then the standard ones that most cheaper hotels have. The service was good.
The view wasn't great but this isn't"t the type of hotel you go to for luxury.
Overall if you are looking for a good place to stay but not fancy perks, this is it.
A long crazy night, many weeks ago, I was drugged and dragged to a strip joint.
I was handcuffed, taken to this hotel, and beaten mercilessly throughout the night.
No one came to my rescue because the walls are thick.
Besides, I thoroughly enjoyed myself :)

I stayed here a couple of nights during a recent visit to Pasadena. The hotel isn't horrible, but it isn't great either. Apparently, it has been renovated and all of the rooms have new carpet, beds, etc. The hotel rooms are generally clean (at least mine was), but the common areas look a bit dingy (probably due to the age of the building). Don't expect a view here. . .my view was of the rundown apartment buildings located behind the hotel. Also, don't expect to have your room cleaned any time before 3PM. The attendant didn't get around to cleaning our room until nearly 4PM.
DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!
I booked a stay here, but found a hotel better located for my needs. I sent a cancellation notice to the hotel via email, and never heard back. So I sent another one and asked for confirmation - never got any. This was 4 and 3 days before my reservation date and within the time where I could cancel without cost.
I never went to this hotel, I stayed in the Sheraton instead, arriving at midnight after a delayed flight from Atlanta. They charged me for one night stay, saying that I checked in at 3:48pm - 5 hours before my plane was scheduled arrival at LAX, and 8 hours before my actual arrival in Pasadena. Then they went on to claim that I had checked out the next day at 6:25pm - what hotel lets you check out at 6:25pm without charging you for another day?
They are such liars! So the charge is in dispute, if they can produce a checkin sheet with my signature I will pay - but I know they don't have one because I have never been to this hotel.
UPDATE - They contacted me and asked me to remove this post as a condition of a refund. I refused, and they refunded anyway. The problem here was the fact that they sent an email confirmation and WAY WAY down on the very bottom was a note that said the email address was unmonitored (and it didn't bounce). So when I sent several cancellations, they dissapeared. No other email address is provided on the website, and although they talk about a cancellation procedure in the email confirmation, I couldn't find one anywhere. Most people use a "do not reply" address, but they do a lot of things different than other hotels.
It's been a while since we stayed there, but it was bad experience. The room had no smoke detector. When we brought this problem to the attention of the manager on duty, he just shrugged. Needless to say, we didn't sleep well and wouldn't go back.
