Great spot semi hidden but if you frequent Holy Cow or the club right around the corner, you'll be pretty familiar with this place post clubbing/bar. A cafe it is not. When you think cafe, you think coffee, snacks, light foods... but no. This is full blown Philly Cheesesteaks and then some.

The place is a little small, but has table seating, and small bar type seating. A few tables, maybe enough to seat like 30 folks, i may be wrong though. Place feels clean. Not dirty. Upkept. Servcie was good, but you have to keep an ear out for your order because sometimes they call it out and you have to pick it up. Its changed a few times. From names, number, to order. Weird.

I've tried a few of their cheesesteaks but you can't go wrong with their Philly with everything on it... AND waffle fries. Garlic waffle fries. I wonder if they still have that... but that was realllly good. The footlong is big, and with everything on it, it looks majestic. The cheesesteak does lack a little flavor, but i really can't complain. It's still good. I love to tobasco it up for that extra kick. It's all on a soft steak bread. The fries are an excellent side as they compiment perfectly. So good. When you think cheesesteak, this is it.

V for Vendetta, I just might have one now.

Really not bad but just not that good.  Given the prices, portion and grease this place doesn't stand out in any way really.  My mushroom cheese steak was kinda meaty, kinda shroomy, slightly cheesy, mostly bready.

Just like what brought me in here, good if you want something quick and easy because you really don't have time for anything else.  Otherwise pass.

I really have to give kudos to this [seemingly family] that keeps this place open next to the bars [Holy Cow and Wishbone]. It's not easy dealing with my friends and the possy of 10 drunkies without kicking us out.

Anyways, I got myself a mushroom cheesesteak here for about 10 bucks. It's definitely larger than a footlong. However, I don't know if it's me or what, but I have yet to find a really really cheesesteak sandwich. I loved how they used a baguette instead but the flavoring was not up to par. The peppers weren't spicy [or spicy enough] either and I think they skimped a little on the filling since I feel like I'd just get a mouthful of bread.

Their burgers look DELICIOUS and juicy though. Still, I got A+ service here. The lady at the counter was really nice and polite as are the boys in the kitchen. Maybe if I give Holy Cow a second shot, I'd do the same here :D

    This was a pleasant surprise.

I had the Philly CheeseSteak and it was actually really good...it definitely had more flavor than most of the cheese steaks I had in Philly!  The meat was tender and seasoned very well.  They put on a good amount of cheese and it really made it a rich sandwich.

The next time I want a very cheap meal and I'm in the area, I'd definitely stop by this place.  They have great and friendly customer service as well.

Great local Philly cheesteak joint that comes with fries and drinks as a combo. Good way to load up calories with cheese and beef.

    V stands for voracious.

Or perhaps vigorous. That's how you'll consume their ridiculously large, ridiculously good turkey meatball sub. Massive meatballs. Oozing marina sauce. Packed into a roll. Cheese if you want it. Tomatoes, lettuce and pickles if you ask. Literally two outstanding sandwiches in one.

You could say each half was eaten vivaciously.

This is a review of delivery from V Cafe.

    Easy to order via http://eat24hours.com/

Delivery - The order was placed at  1:59 PM.    The order was delivered at 2:44 PM.  At 45 minutes, the delivery time was well within the estimate of 45 to 60 minutes.  While not super speedy, I do consider delivery within 45 minutes to be relatively fast.  There was a $1 delivery fee.  The delivery person was polite and professional.

Order Minimum - The order minimum is low ($14).

Cheese-steak Sandwich - This was a pretty good sandwich.  The roll was nice and soft.  The meat could have been a touch more tender and it could of been a bit cheesier.  But I enjoyed it.  It was also a pretty large sandwich.

    http://tinyurl.com/3vg...

Bacon Cheeseburger - This was a mediocre burger.   It was cooked past the ordered medium.  I would guess the patty had been frozen.  It did had that heavy denseness that usually only comes from a frozen patty.  It was edible but that was about it.

    http://tinyurl.com/3fx...

Waffle Fries - These came with the burger and were very good.

Packing  - The food was all neatly packed.

Pricing - The prices are inline with my expectations.  I received a free soda for ordering $20 worth of food.  This offset the delivery charge.

    Soda 1 $1.35 Flavor: Coke Free !
    Cheese steak Sandwich 1 $7.50
    Bacon Cheeseburger 1 $7.95
    Soda 2 $1.35 Flavor: Sprite

    Subtotal: $19.50
    Discount: $1.35
    Tax: $1.63
    Delivery Charge: $1.00
    Total:   $20.78

Overall - The quality was a mixed bag.  The philly was better than the burger.  The prices were decent.  I would not order from them again for  a philly or a burger though.  I can get better versions of either delivered.  I might check out some of their other menu items.  Because they do have some interesting options for delivery.  The prices were decent and delivery was relatively fast.

Some friends and I dined here at 11pm on a Saturday night on a whim, and we were pleasantly surprised.

The cheesesteaks were huge, greasy, and pretty good for the price. We got our orders just a few minutes after ordering, and V Cafe is conveniently located by Butter, and other bars.

I was working around this area and was going to gonto Teds Market for a pastrami sandwich but saw this joint V cafe. Hmmm...ok, bring the yelp reviews for this place. This joint is 4 stars. Ok, let me try it.

Read some reviews and somebody says their philly cheeseteak "is the bomb" Ordered their cheese steak with everything on it.

Here's come the chees steak.  The sandwich is pretty big. It's like a footlong, they dont skimp on the meat BUT its lacking flavor. The cheese is like swiss, not enough onions, or peppers but they put pepper flakes (like for the pizza) to give some spice on the sandwich.

I think it's kinda bland and I was dissapointed with their philly cheese steak.

The staff are nice and they are open till 2 am.

Am i going back? hmmm, i will definitely go to Ted's intead to get some hot pastrami sandwich.

I came here on a windy day while getting my girls car looked at by The Smog Shop (best mechanics in the city btw), we were looking for something to eat anywhere we can find to get out of the crazy wind and this was the only place open.

Here's the thing...its a greasy spoon restaurant. the types of places you went with your grandpa when you were a kid or if you were lucky like me, with your grandpa and later in life with your landscaping buds in the wee hours of the morning..this was when white people were humble enough to actually DO manual labor....so yea...its a while ago.

I like greasy spoons...the food always has that homey kinda feel to it when you eat it and usually the place is setup with just enough decor that its almost like you are in someones basement or house.

V is that kinda place...V is a shithole in the middle of the city that doesn't care about its looks and serves up for the money...a decent greasy meal.

Don't come here if you want healthy, don't come here if you can't handle holes in the wall. Come here if you leave DNA lounge or Slims hell even Butter and are dying for a good cheesesteak (not a great one...just a good one) or a FAT ass hamburger that turns the bun pink from all its grease and juice.

It was a hearty meal in a shitty little hole. I'd eat here again late at night after a round of drinking with friends. The grease will stop my hangover from coming.

Everything here is greasy.  Just look a the pix.  But you should have expected that.

The bread for my sub didn't really do it for me.  Not gooey enough, rather burnt and hard actually.  The kind of bread that leaves a bad feeling against the roof of your mouth that won't go away for a while.  Quality of meat is kinda whatever.

I'd go there again, simply cuz there's not much else to eat around.

Add this to my "why I love greasy spoons" list. The first time I came here my heart melted over a steaming broiled chicken hoagie sandwich and the no-frills atmosphere (and not necessarily in that order: I hold a certain attraction for blunt, spartan diners in the same way people flock to Dr. Phil for tough love). And that literally steaming chicken smelled almost BETTER than it tasted - but it did also taste really good. So tender it melted in your mouth.

Next up was lunch a few months later: I opted for the chicken SALAD and the greens and size and chicken itself did not disappoint.

The only bummer is lack of coffee drinks (I really needed one on my 2nd visit), but this is well worthy of greasy spoon stature (recall, this is a very good thing).

    Terrible food of sub-Safeway quality
I ordered some Buffalo Wings and two sandwiches to be delivered

The Buffalo wings were dry and drenched in cheap spicy bbq sauce
The PO-Boy Shrimp sandwich was greasy and quite disgusting

good little cafe. Love the fact that they make everything to order. They are open late too, as I saw a sign that said open till 2am. Not sure if it's just weekends tho.

The cheesesteak was very good, very flavorful. They use a french roll, similar to a banh mi roll so if you are looking for a authentic philly amoroso roll, this isn't it. But it is still delicious all the same.

Definitely get the garlic fries. Just enough garlic for it to taste good but not be overwhelming. Crunchy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside.

The fried zucchini sticks are good too. so hot -i.e. burn your mouth hot!-so crunchy and so just the right late night snack to die for.

    "ouch, ouch, ouch"
Four hungry and alcohol induced girls turn the corner with sad faces, not because their feet are in pain, but because their stomachs ache for sustenance and their late night crepe stand is cash only.

Suddenly, an extraordinary aroma trails towards them and their noses begin to wiggle as they gravitate to V cafe. Open late, accepts credit card and as confirmed by the vato outside, the philly cheesesteaks are 'the bomb'.

    Were we hungry? Yes
Were we scared to walk away from his suggestion? Yes.
    So, we ate.

One order alone is huge and extremely reasonable in price. Every sandwhich was made fresh and piping hot off the press. We flooded our mouths with huge bites of cheesesteak and Frankies hot sauce, never allowing it to have one dull moment.

If you ever find yourself coming out of one of the many bars around here (Holy cow, Mist, etc) and hungry, you know where to go; they're open late on weekends!

i really would only go back in a pinch....a really hard pinch!

i wish my thin slab of kraft singles was melted on my cheese burger instead of resting raw-ly there.

i wish my fries were not so frozen tasting.

i wish that at 730 pm, 6 hours after i ate that burger and fries, my mouth didn't taste like a slightly digested version of it anymore :s

i have to give it 2 stars since i did finish the meal--that part is my bad.

Another inebriated spot to go to after the local bars! LOL
V cafe is located on Folsom and right next door to Holy Cow and Wish bar, so its a perfect place to eat drunk food! HAHAH I know everyone knows what I am talking about. Last night my friends mentioned they wanted to go eat there, after a couple of drinks. I thought to myself ohh okay, kind of disappointed because I wanted to eat at Naan n Curry. I never would have considered this spot anyways because I thought their cheese steak's were alright, nothing special about it. Maybe its because I don't eat these type of sandwiches often.

Any who, the service was fast for 10 people, and the sandwiches were huge!!! I ordered a Chicken teriyaki sandwich and didn't bother to finish it all. I ended up giving the rest to one of the guys. The food was okay, I was not impressed.

I had lunch here last week and ordered a cheesesteak.  The cheesesteak was pretty good.  I asked them to substitute provolone for American cheese and they did.  I also ordered extra cheese but I don't think I actually got extra cheese.  Which kind of perturbs me, but whatever next time I'll order extra extra cheese and see what happens.  I think that if they had Whiz it would be a 5 star cheesesteak.  The meat and the onions are plentiful and well seasoned.  However I did get a mouthful of gristle that was a little unappealing.  The cheesesteak as is is 3 stars.

I have also had the burger here.  I was actually very impressed by the burger.  It was juicy, a little bit overcooked, but still juicy and they season the burger.  So many burger joints don't season the damn burger which drives me insane.  This place does.  I am sure the fat content of the ground beef is at least 25% which is fine by me and in my opinion the bacon cheeseburger was a winner.  I haven't had the fries there but I always see people eating them.  I can't really justify eating 1/2 pound of fries on top of a 800 calorie burger.  It's enough already.

All in all, I live and work around the corner and when I get a hankering for Jake's I go to V.... Because Jake's and Phat Philly don't deliver to me anymore.  Jake's I guess because I moved from Nob Hill to SOMA, which I can understand.  Phat Philly I don't really understand.  When they first opened up they delivered to me but don't anymore.

This little place is a reflection of the neighborhood it resides in. It's a little run down, a little cramp but with a whole lot of character.

I've eaten here a few times along with the automotive workers, the folks in khakis colored clothes and IDs hanging off their lanyards and the locals. What tasty and healthy helpings of food. The waffle cut garlic fries are the yummiest and the price for the amount of food can feed two people. I am a customer whenever I am in that neck of the woods.

Where do you go for a bite to eat at 2am after stumbling out of Paradise Lounge???  V Cafe!!!

My friends wanted food, and we didn't want to go far.  As we walked down the street, we saw V Cafe.  We saw cheese steaks on the menu and decided to stay and fill our bellies.  My friend got the bacon cheese steak( http://static.px.yelp.... ) and I shared the mushroom cheese steak( http://static.px.yelp.... ).  The cheese steaks were huge!  I was pretty full after eating my half.  They load it with tons of meat and mushrooms.  Add a little hot sauce to give it some extra zing.

I'd give 3.5 stars for the food.  And they get an extra .5 for dealing with all the drunkos after hours.

Do you ever have one of those evenings when you're lying on your couch and thinking how life could have been much better if you bought that Clapper?...or you wish you got that Radio Shack consolidated remote because the cable channel remote is on the far, unreachable end of your coffee table?...or you just want to have someone hand feed you, kinda like a rent-a-handmaiden service?

Well, in this mood, I went online for http://delivery.com and ordered from the V Cafe. No frills sandwiches are available, and the $8.95 New York Steak Sandwich on a hefty French roll certainly fits the bill. It just hit the spot with the addition layering of sweet peppers and melted Provolone cheese. And naturally, I had to have the $2.75 Garlic Criss-Cut Fries, a hefty order and surprisingly warm upon arrival.

Service was awfully quick, probably less than twenty minutes since granted they are pretty close by to my address. So if you feel sloth-like and you are in the midst of fixing the self-inflicted wedgie in your underwear, I think an order from the V Cafe could meet your needs. I will have to go there sometime...

FOOD - 4 stars...hefty hot sammies just fit the bill for a lazy evening
AMBIANCE - n/a...however, my couch was comfy
    SERVICE - 4 stars...fast and furious
TOTAL - 4 stars...when pizza and take-out Chinese just doesn't work for ya

In a pinch this place worked out for providing greasy, late nite grub for myself and the beautious Molly R. as we held "80's Dance Party" in my apartment last Thursday... the delivery guy didn't even make fun of the fact that two girls had ordered two foot long cheesesteaks (w/extra cheese) and garlic fries AND chicken wings... not once.

It was fast delivery, too.  Under 30 minutes.  A little pricier than I had hoped, though... but, that's okay.  Anything for my Molly R. - my widdle snookums!

Goodish food, fast service, good selection of junk food, sucky prices... eh, okay I suppose four stars.  More like 3.5, really.

I stopped in to grab a quick lunch during a one-day job at the hip trendy branding agency next door. I had the crispy chicken salad to go. The surprisingly tasty and plentiful chicken seemed to be fried in light tempura or just a teensy bit of panko. Very friendly service. Not a destination restaurant for sure but a good value when you're in that neighborhood and want some good old-fashioned fried food.

The cheese steak subs are indeed huge.  Mine was 11.75 inches long.  After I finished eating, I had 5.5 inches left over.  The sub was an average of 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall.

    11.75 - 5.5 = 6.25.  6.25 x 3 x 2 = 37.5.

Thus I ate 37.5 cu. in. of cheese steak sub tonight.

Oh and the fries weren't bad either.

BEST GARLIC FRIES I'VE EVER HAD.

Followed the scent of garlic fries from Mercury Lounge to this little cafe. These garlic fries are better than the Ballparks and Gordon Biersch. The best part of these fries is that they are super crunchy, salted and drenched in garlic oil instead of oil & bits of garlic. Boy are they potent though! Even though I wasn't eating bits of garlic I could still taste it in my mouth the next morning.

It was so good my friends and I polished off 3 orders. Maybe we were just hungry when midnight rolled around or maybe these were the perfect antidote to sober up after our shot of Crown. Either way I am definitely coming back!

    Yummy!

Their burgers and cheesesteaks taste like chinese oil. If you've lived in SF and had a burger like this you know what I'm talking about. It's not bad, it's different. This ain't no niman ranch burger...it's regular meat.

This place has an honest burger with fries and cheese steaks to boot. They have cheesy fries and onion rings and all that good greasy stuff. It's right next to the Holy Cow and stays open late so business can stumble over and get some burgers before passing out from drunkenness.

Wandered into this place while heading from the mission down toward civic center. We were hungry and saw the word cheesesteak.

The boyfriend got the footlong cheesesteak, and I got the cheesesteak special which was 6 inch sandwich with garlic fries and a soda.

The cheesesteak was tasty. It's no cheesesteak shop cheesesteak, but still pretty darn good.  I added some hot sauce because I like my food spicy. That 6 inch sub had me filled up.

    The fries?

Oh yeah, the fries. They weren't that great. Kinda cooked too much, some had tons of garlic but others didn't.

I'd definitely go back, but only if I HAPPEN to be in the area (which probably isn't likely). So in any case, I recommend it!

The only time I've ever ordered something other than the grilled ham and cheese sandwich is when I ordered a philly cheese steak and it was the size of my arm.

So all I gotta say is that I love the grilled ham and cheese as well as the garlic fries.

I guess the only reason it's not getting five stars is because I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a heart attack soon if I come here like, 2 more times (Hella greasy!!! No but for real though, I got much love for you guys).

You might come here for the cheesesteak sandwich, a wise and reliable option.

Or you might come here for the turkey burger, vaguely healthier than the rest of the menu, and quite satisfying.

But I come for the eggplant grinder. It's basically eggplant parmasan in a hoagie roll. Mmmm....yes....greasy and sinful, but hits the spot, especially on those days when you're going brain dead at work and need the complete antithesis to sophisticated intelligentsia.

I ate there today on my lunch break, and I'm already waiting to eat there again.  If you're looking for a non-greasy, healthy meal, this probably isn't the place - although they do have a few salads.

As a vegetarian & selective eater, I've become pretty picky about my veggie burgers.  Theirs was very tasty and I think they make the patties themselves.  VegBurger, Fries & soda came to $10.  Waffle fries were greasy and delicious.  :)

The two guys working were really nice.

I have been going to this place off and on for the last three years and they are excellent. They have a variety of American cuisine at reasonable prices. They staff is super friendly and get orders out quick; which means a lot if you are on a lunch break.

Not anything super healthy on the menu (even the salads) but of course you would not want to eat like this daily.

    Definitely a treat.

Better than Jay's (duh), but not as good as the Cheesesteak Shop. Still...every cheesesteak place in SF is different, and for the varieties they've got and the size they serve up (they're freakin' HUGE), you'll be in heaven there. The other day I took the second half of a bacon cheesteak home as leftovers from lunch, and that's an accomplishment in itself.

IIRC they use toasted sourdough rolls, and I kinda like the softer rolls they use @ the Metro cafe in the Lower Haight  a bit better. Stay far away from the mozzarella sticks bas they suck major ass. The criss-cut fries tho? Off the HEEZY. I'd compare them to Chick-Fil-A's fries (the best IMO), which I was lucky enough to be raised on eons ago in the food courts of Paramus Park, New Jersey.

Very good hole in the wall in SOMA. I frequent this establishment to the point where all I need to do is nod and throw up a finger, yup...good stuff and they always do me right.....

This little place next to the Holy Cow has huge, delicious, garlicky (?!) cheesesteaks.  I mean HUGE.  Orange on a toothpick huge.  Big greasy burgers and criss-cut fries (discontinued?  NOOOOOOOOO).  My dining companion, the Flaming Carrot had the shrimp po-boy, which he liked okay, but he used to live in New Orleans, so he probably has higher sammich standards than I do.

Maybe not as authentic as the Cheesesteak Shop and never as good as Sonia's in San Jose, it's still nice to be able to get a good, greasy mush of meat and other shit in this part of town.

Extra bonus; they are open until 2am on weekends.  Extra, extra bonus; last time I went there late, after I ordered, I found my car had been blocked in by a fire engine with no firemen to be found.  Some very nice squids on Ducati Supersports noted my look of consternation and helped me guide my car through an opening that it wasn't meant to fit.  Thank you anonymous squids!  But I still lambast your lack of proper motorcycle gear.
