My best bud and I dropped in this place for a couple of proseccos a few months back and went back last night to partake of the tasty foods.
It was still Happy Hour, so we had some cheap eats and drinks until it was time to have real food. It was yet another incredible Cheap Thrill - an 8 oz. carafe of a good Montepulciano for $4!
We got a platter of meats (the waiter steered us right in saying the "single' platter was enough for two) - some incredible smoked speck from Iowa, and two other meats we inhaled with excellent bread. This was not an HH offering, but for $17 in comparison to other salumi platters (like Adesso in Oakland - gasp at the portion v. prices) it was a total deal.
Next was a mac and cheese sort of dish with orchiette pasta with pecorino and some mighty tasty fresh ground pepper. We each cooked for a living for years and were dying to know what the peppercorns were. Such a simple dish, but really incredible, and HH price for $4 - yow. It was a huge portion.
We refilled our carafes and ordered a pizza before HH was up. The pizza was tasty, with salami and mozzarella. Just okay but for $4, who's complaining?
All the wild boar recommendations on this site made me cravin' it (a favorite dish anytime) so after a short break we stuffed that in, too. This was a casserole dish of more orchiette with a nicely ground chunky wild boar ragu. I think all the pastas are $14 - hey, this place was a total deal.
I'd like to go back and do just starters on HH and then have more of the regular menu choices.
The service was great, although sparse during HH, of course, as the place filled up with those looking for the cheap eats and drinks. Definitely worth a try.
Salivating as I'm thinking of this place! We had:
3 veggie dishes as appetizers for $15
-Red lentils, herbs, croutons
-Root veggies with herbs
-Brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar
Split an arugla pesto pasta dish and a goat cheese & pepper pizza.
Had a dark, full red wine & a lighter pinot-esque red in our own mini carafes.
Simple Italian food done well. Friendly staff, well lit setting, beautiful people. Winning combo!
I remember fantastic pizza and an incredible off-dry moscato. I also managed to contribute to a $350 bill between me and six other friends. I have no idea how that happened -- I was already three sheets to the wind when I entered the Uva, and added several more topsails while there. All I know is this -- if I end up dropping $50 of my own money on what amounted to a little food and a lot of wine, and remember few specifics except that it DID TASTE GOOD, something great MUST have happened!
Don't ever walk into a nice enoteca while drunk. You'll drop ducats.
The happy hour here (5-6:30 Sun-thurs I believe), is just fabulous. $4 glasses of wine and $1.50 beers. Sign me up! Also, the food during happy hour the 2 times I have been have also just been delicious. Both pizzas I had were very very good (one was salami and the other had corn on it). The most recent time we had a creamy pasta and another pasta that was tiny balls with olive oil (don't remember this name). Everything was delicious!
Eating and drinking at happy hour here really is a treat. You get an awesome meal with delicious food and drinks for a totally reasonable price. We ordered all 3 things on the menu and 2 glasses of wine and the bill with tax and tip was somewhere around $31.
Only con is the hostess is the only waitress really during happy hour so service may not be amazing. BUT still totally worth it!
pretty good, I'll go back.
The Parmeasan cheese was great, lamb sausgae pizza was pretty good, great wines, tasty cured meats. Good wild boar ragu.
I give this place 5 stars for the following:
1.) Charcuterie selection- Try their housemade pate (I'm not a fan of pate normally, but they put some herbs that take away that livery taste).
2.) Delicious Cheeses - Can't get enough of them
3.) Small Vegetable dishes- Brussel sprouts (Again, I'm not a fan, but they made me one)
I also enjoy the friendly tatted up servers who have great recommendations on food. Reminds me of a bit of Italy mix with some Lower Haight.
I'm not in a generous mood today. 3.5* and I rounded down.
I'm not from SF and I don't know the area all that well but the Uva Enoteca brunch ad on Yelp caught my eye. Did somebody say Bottomless Bellinis? I read reviews on dozens of other brunch places but no matter how great everyone else's menus looked, I couldn't get the thought of the Bottomless Bellinis out of my mind.
Keep in mind that a regular bellini costs $7 and I was determined to get my money's worth so I had multiple refills. While they tasted good, they seemed too dense - perhaps not enough prosecco? It didn't matter though, I was feeling pretty happy after a couple of glasses.
The food is delicious but on the petite side. At $8-$11 for most items, the menu is priced right but the portions are just too small. We all ate every thing on our plate and everyone was still hungry. That made me a little bit sad since I had also consumed several liquefied peaches by that point as well. We ended up going to get ice cream after brunch.
O, the food is really really good. Well the only thing I've had is the wild boar ragu. BUT it was really flavorful. It was different than I expected and have a feeling the other dishes are as well.
The staff is super nice as well.
The devil however is in the details. Asked for bread, got some bread. Just bread. They have no iced tea. They have no diet soda. It seems like the place is fairly new so Im sure these things will work themselves out.
I'd go back...if I could find parking int he Lower haight...
Here's the breakdown:
Pros:
- impress your date if you know Italian
- good wine
- waiters are knowledgeable and helpful
- food is very tasty
Cons:
- very expensive for small amounts of food
- takes a long time
- incomprehensible menu if you don't know Italian
- loud dining
There are two types of food that make me ill when I even think about it. 1) Zingers. It's sick by default, but then I once ate it as a child, while I was extremely sea sick on a sailboat. 2) 'Anchovy butter.'
I'm sorry to say that I had the latter at Uva.
I still really like Uva, but as a whole I'd stick to the beverages cheese and charcuterie plates. Food's not so much their strong suit.

we came here for my wife's b-day for a low key dinner. the ambiance and decor lent itself well to that but i was expecting a bit more out of the food.
we got there around 7pm and the place was empty. good for us since we'll get our food quickly! we looked over the menu and after a bit we came down to getting a few apps and a few entrees. for apps we got the pearl onion, pomegranate and grape vinaigrette cold salad and the persimmon, fennel and prawn salad. the pearl onion salad was nice but nothing special. the prawn salad was nice but there was way too much fennel and it over took the lovely persimmon. the prawn was cooked very well.
for mains we got a pasta w/ brussel sprouts and onions and a pizza w/ arugula and potato. both were decent but not great. the pizza was unique due to the small cubes of potato.
overall it was a decent restaurant but i don't see ourselves jumping to go back.
After my first experience here I was dying to go back, I'm just sad I waited 4 months to do that. Two visits later Uva still doesn't disappoint. The location is somewhat an outlier next to its hipster Lower Haight neighbors. It is deceivingly spacious inside (there's a back room behind the bar), not obnoxiously crowded or sceney, but maintains a comfortable ambiance.
A great place to gather with a group of your best friends, enjoy a good meal, and drink enough red wine to make it seem like you're the only people around. Always a big plus when you can just breeze into the restaurant without reservations and get seated in 2 seconds. I love instant gratification.
Our orders were taken pretty promptly and came out perfectly timed.
We started with the cheese plate and ordered 3 cheeses - a perfect size for 3 people. The honey, figs, and peaches they had on the side were a perfect complement to the cheeses we picked. They serve a nice hefty dose of vino - enough to get 3 glasses out of a regular order. They also serve half orders for those of you who might have to be designated driver for the night.
We ordered pastas which were a decent size portion - not too big or too small. I had the lamb sausage pasta. The pasta itself could have used a little more seasoning but the highlight of the dish was really the lamb sausage meatballs. I took a bite of my friend's Bucatini pasta and that was a lot more flavorful - simple but still packed some punch. Good for those who like to keep it spicy. At $14, it was pretty on par with other similarly tasty pasta places in the city. For dessert, we finished up the meal with their gelato. The cardamom whipped cream was delicious though I could have done without the strawberry syrup.
Overall, a good meal with great friends is always a good time. We stayed long enough that we ended up closing the place down. Big bonus for turning the lights on versus the usual waitress nag.
Went to Uva again recently and the experience was pretty good except for one slip up. We had 3 platters - cured meats, cheeses and veggies/verdure. Unfortunately, the verdure plate was totally and completely GROSS. Out of our party of five, we ordered 3 of the veggies and barely made a dent into any of them (and we were a hungry bunch - the meats and cheeses disappeared quickly). They were all cold (not even room temperature but cold, as in, they tasted like they were out of the fridge) and bland as all hell.
Our server suggested a great bottle of wine - I think it was only $30 something bucks. I was really pleased with that, so pleased that we ordered two more bottles after we downed the first.
I really like the nice extras you get with bread - the apricots being my favorite. I wish more restaurants thought about the little things that make people come back!

Uva Enoteca is a delight. I've gone a few times for wine and cheese in the evening, and also for brunch. Ask your server about the cheese selections and get a brief lesson. The staff is accommodating and delightful, they warm the greens to go with my panino at brunch and stash my razor scooter for me. On my last visit they made a mistake with my special order, so they brought me a whole new meal and didn't charge.
This is one of the rare spots where you feel so at ease and comfy that even after your meal has been over for a half hour, you are trying to make that last half glass of wine last just so that you won't have to leave.
One of my new favs! Bottomless belini brunch and cheese plates= amazingness. Friendly staff.
Just wish they were open on Sunday for brunch, not just saturday.
I ate here for the first time last night. It feels kind of out of place in the lower Haight, but seems like a good addition to the neighborhood.
Service is sort of spotty in the way it typically is at SF restaurants. It took us forever to get our order taken, and when our food came, it was not exactly what we ordered (but hey, close enough).
That said, the food is pretty good and the prices seem reasonable. The housemade salumis are good, there's a nice cheese selection and the wine list is pretty extensive with lots of glasses and carafes for under $10.
Altogether it seems like a good place to frequent if you live in the 'hood, but not worth going out of your way for.
Ohhh Uva How i Love thee, Let me Count the Ways....
I managed to stumble across this little gem of a restaurant while searching for the next top happy hour spot in town. I had grown tired of our usual spots and was aching to try something new. Uva not only impressed me with its classic minimalist decor but the simple classic flavors of there dishes sent a chill thru my spine. I still dream of there constantly changing cheese plate!
If you have the chance to stop in for there bottomless belini brunch then Run dont Wok. Theres a simple magic about belini's and cheese that just cant be beat!
I recommend sitting at the bar if an attractive female named Anica appears to be working. Not only is she adorable she's extremely knowledgable and have you entertained for hours. If i was gay id think id have fallen in love.
Came here for the first time about a year ago with my friend, T, who highly recommended it. Not used to too many wine/cheese places, but must admit that the stuff she ordered was top notch. I love my wine but awfully ignorant when it comes to selections. Still, loved all that they threw my way.
The decor is really cute. I think it's because I'm a big fan of high ceilings and such. The place itself isn't too huge but it has a hip, bar feel.
Gotta love Uva! This place is pretty unique for the Lower Haight - a clean, modern, inviting restaurant with delicious food and a great atmosphere. The italian-influenced menu tastes authentic without being heavy -- try the wild boar ragu or some of the more inventive desserts. And the space is warm and intimate -- perfect for a date or a nice dinner with friends. I'm reluctant to mention the happy hour for fear of causing a stampede, but suffice it to say it's the best value in the neighborhood.
In case you couldn't tell, I love this place.
Slightly out of place in the Lower Haight, Uva Enoteca brings Italian wine and food to the 'hood.
With high ceilings and little in the way of decorations, Uva has a vibe that is at once starkly modern and slightly retro. Perhaps this is planned: with nothing to distract you the stars of the show are obviously the wine and food selections.
Like so many places these days, the menu offers the ubiquitous "small plates" -- selections of formaggio (cheese), salumi (cured meats), and verdure (vegetables), as well as pizze and slightly larger pasta dishes.
Bright and fresh, the heirloom tomato salad was topped with tiny cippolini onions and the thinnest slices of creamy pecornino cheese. While tasty overall, the crust on the sweet corn, basil, and fresh mozzarella pizze did not offer the wood-fired crispiness that one would expect. (For that, be sure to visit Tony's Pizza Napoletana in North Beach.) Although full of flavor from carmelized onions and artichoke hearts, the wild boar ragu with orecchiette (small ear-shaped pasta) was not served as hot as one would expect for such a hearty dish.
While friendly, service was a bit confused: the hostess was unsure how to seat our reservation and had to find someone else to show her how to use the Open Table application; all the dishes arrived en masse, rather than being served in courses as one would expect; and it was hard to get the waiter's attention to order additional wine.
As one might expect, the standout at Uva Enoteca is the well-priced, exclusively Italian wine list. Prices range from under $30 to only slightly more than $100, with the vast majority concentrated in the $40-$50 range -- almost unheard of in pricey SF. Also rare were the knowledgeable recommendations from the server: he was able to suggest multiple wine selections to complement each dish and could describe wines and their production methods in detail.
All in all, Uva Enoteca provided a nice, casual dining experience and a chance to try some little known Italian wines. With a little polishing of basic service, the establishment could turn in to a stella brillando (shining star) of wine bars in The City.
Uva, Uva, Uva!
It had been soooo long since our last interlude.
I was ecstatic to meet up with my lovely friends here.
Service, as always was excellent. The food was simply divine.
One standout last night was the Boschetto al Tartufo.
A creamy rich and luscious cow & sheep blend formaggi
that paired wonderfully with the accompanying clover honey
and dried apricots. Get it! Savor it! Love it!
You will not be disappointed.
But my friends, my "O" moment happened towards the end
of our evening. After the carne and formaggi were devoured,
and as we reached the end of our bottle placed before us
in a lovely silver serving dish was the most magically
delicious vanilla gelato drizzled with extra virgin olive oil
and sea salt. I MUST try and recreate this at home for Date Night.
FYI: Word on the street from those 'in' with the Uva crew is that
brunch with bottomless bellinis is a possibility very soon.
Seriously, I might as well just pack my bags and move in. . .

The carne is good...the pasta not so much.
This is probably one of my favorite go-to weeknight spots. I'm not really confident enough in people to pick things out for me in general, let alone something as important as my food and drink of choice but there's something about this place and it's employee's that makes me trust them. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that my favorite music is always playing in the background. Or because the beautiful cheese and bread they slice and serve is sitting out in big hunks like delicious, culinary art.
Every time I go here, I belly up to the bar, tell the same guy who's always behind it to pick me out some cheese and a glass of red and I leave 2.5 hours later with black teeth, a full stomach, and a song I love but haven't heard in forever happily stuck in my head.
They serve fantastic cheese plates. I love the ever-changing accompaniments to the selection, always a perfectly palatable combo of nuts, some type of sweet paste like quince or fig and honey, and something savory. I've also sampled a few of the salads - all on target - and a few meat dishes, the real standout being a wild boar ragu which inspired me to make my own meaty concoction a few days later. Gotta love that.
For me, a perfect week food/drink wise would include a stop in here, which reminds me I haven't been in a little. I think I see a Sunday brunch in my future.
Started with the charcuterie- boar salami, heart of prosciutto and a spicy salami- the boar was too dry for me and the prosciutto was cut thick like jerky- no good. The cheese selections we had were Parmesan, goat cheese and goat, cow, sheep blend (the best of the three)- we had an arugula, potato, quince and Gorgonzola salad- it was OK. By this time we were ready to bail on dinner but decided to stick it out and see if things would improve. We ordered a pizza based on fact the waiter told us how good they were- thin and crispy. I do not know what happened, but we were delivered something that was NOT thin or crispy. It had the texture of a store bought frozen $5.99 special- and they an extreme amount of black pepper on a cheese pizza. The kitchen was right behind our table so I decided to peek in- no wonder the pizza was bad- it looked like they were using an ez bake oven to cook the damn things!
Genuine disappointment to the point of no second chance- I just called Italy- they are pissed!
Fabulous happy hour.....but too short since it's literally only about one hour long. Very delicious food and wine. After happy hour it gets pricey, but I will definitely go back for the happy hour.
A delight. What a wonderful atmosphere complimented with a fine collection of wine. The lambrusco reggiano is wonderful and I am so happy that my friend brought me to this place. It's my current favorite place. The food was delicious.
What this place does well, it does incredibly, unfortunately it's missing consistency. There were long delays between courses - dinner was nearly 3 hours long, all of the food is lukewarm at best our table was ignored repeatedly, wine was poured without much explanation and the bill was wrong. Some of the dishes (particularly the Farro and the onions were boring and bland. The gorgonzola pizza was fine, but nothing memorable).
That said, the eggplant, the lentils and the lamb pasta were phenomenal. Loved them beyond belief and they are enough to convince me that this place deserves a second chance. I loved the extensive list of 2 ounce wine tastings that were available and the fact that each one was unique and delicious. The apple crisp was accompanied by a lovely gelato.
I hope they work out the kinks with the service and the temperature of the food because if they do, this will be one of my top spots in the city. If they don't work out the kings, I don't think i'll be returning too often.
Went there for happy hour last Sunday and, although the food (well, to be precice, the pizza) did not live up to the expectations, I did like it and will be going back. Why did I like it?
The atmosphere was relaxing and smart with indie tunes in the background and our server was sweet and attentive. The $1.5 peronis at happy hour were definitely a plus and we also tried their $4 beer cocktail - it was GOOD (it had ginger beer and lemongrass). The rose wine that we tried was not bad either - and big pours! Now, although the salame and mozzarella pizza was disappointing with rather bland tomato sauce and very small size, the two paninis we tried were excellent (chicken-gorgonzola and, the star of the evening, speck-fennel-apples!). We also had their heirloom tomato salad which was delicious and fresh, but... $12??
So, we will be back to try their other wines as well as meat and cheese platters (they looked great at the table next to us)
When it sucks it sucks.
I have given this place several chances on different occasions in varying areas.
1. Dinner
---- Server cranky
---- food basically alright but expensive
---- wine tasty but expensive
2. Eleven o'clock wine taste 1 glass (at least 3 times)
---- cranky rude server
---- rude server
---- annoyed server
3. Wine and Happy Hours noshes
---- Server behaved as though we were a bother
---- Server with ass in my face for half the meal
The staff seems to think that the customers are there to annoy them on their social hour.
I spent the first half of my Happy hour with a waiter who seemed to be annoyed that I came in at all let alone to have a birthday appetizer; a guy sitting directly in my view with his ass/underpants hanging out (see photo) and another guy who I think was supposed to be the wine expert in an old t-shirt and jeans, who spent the second half of my experience with his ass literally 6" from my face while he chatted up the table next to mine for at least 10 minutes.
I may not be trendy to your liking. But I was planning on spending some money there.
Now that's never going to happen.
Basically adds up to:
Rude staff
Mediocre food
Expensive

* / one star
Rather stay home.
Is it wrong to be in love with a meat platter? If it's real love can it ever be wrong? Say no or I'll beat you. Haha..I kid I kid..but not really.
So I had the assortito of carne here and I can't get my mind off it. The meat was perfectly flavored. Can't wait to go back for Round 2. As for the rest of the stuff..
Service: Perfect. Waiter was attentive but not overly intrusive.
Ambiance: Cool vibe. Very SF.
Food: I've already given you my meat assessment. Other than that I had the Bucatini alla amatriciana (baked pasta) which was good but, as always, could use more baked cheese. In fact, they should create a dish of just baked cheese. Why hasn't someone done that as yet? I'm gonna be the first. Someone open me up a restaurant so I can put it on my idea to good use..Genius..
This place is solid. Definitely check it out for a good meal and good times.
I had a horrible experience at Uva Enoteca about a week ago and i was so mad I couldn't even bring myself to write this review until right now.
I walked in with 3 friends and there was one 4-top available. The host said "sure, I'll seat you right now ..." then looked over my shoulder at a woman who walked in with 2 friends about 2 min after us. The host then looked at me and said "one moment," walked up to the woman, and gave her our table. Then told us it would be a 20 minute wait.
My memory was that Uva didn't take reservations, so I was confused. I asked him: "do you take reservations?" he said, "no." so i said, "why did you give her our table?" he paused and seemed to think through a politically savvy response ... in other words, he knew he was in trouble. He said, "well, she called me 10 minutes ago and asked me to hold a table." So I said, "you do take reservations then, just only for certain people."
He never apologized ... he just told us we'd have to wait.
the situation could have been resolved to my satisfaction ... Uva missed the opportunity. I expect better.
Hit up their Saturday brunch with a girlfriend. We both ordered the open faced Panino which was extremely delicious but also a tease. It was difficult to cut and when we eventually game up and decided to use our fingers the egg kept falling off and dripping all over the rest of our plate.
It also happened to be one of the very few boiling days here in San Francisco. Apparently some restaurants do not invest in a cooling air system so we spent quite some time fanning ourselves to a bearable temperature.
Still, the food is tasty and afforable at 8 bucks a panino! They have bottomless bellinis for their Saturday brunch.
Uva Enoteca opened right before we had to move out of the Alamo Square/ Lower Haight neighborhood. I was glad to return to my old stomping grounds, if only to sample some of the wines and fare here.
For the most part I enjoyed the food - there were some hits as well as misses.
The apperitivi I ordered -- an Ultras: Birra bionda, ginger beer, lime, lemongrass & tarragon -- was very sour -- even though I hadn't conveyed to the server that t I enjoyed my drinks on the sour side. It was a bit *too* sour even for me -- such that the rest of the subtle favours of lemongrass, gingerbeer and tarragon were obscured.
We shared a couple of salads: heirloom tomatoes with ricotta salata and simple balsamic/ oil dressing - flavourful enough, hard to screw up. I definitely enjoyed the raw pea leaf-salad with peas, prawns and lemon aioli. Pea leaves are one of my favourite vegetables, and I usually have them stir-fried rather than raw. The salad, very lightly dressed, was innovative and refreshing.
I opted for the Paccheri with goat cheese, arugula and lamb sausage -- the pasta was tasty enough, and toothsomely well-cooked (al dente). The flavours of the sauce were coherent and complimentary to the lamb sausage meatballs which had a nice funky gaminess to them (the way I like lamb). However, presentation left much to be desired. It was served gloppily on a too-small plate and threatened to ooze over the side. The wine that was recommended - a Montepulciano - was also unfortunately too earthy for the rich dish. I could have used a bit more acid or brightness to cut through the fatty lamb and creamy sauce.
All in all, I'd definitely return, though. The space is absolutely charming and larger than it looks from the outside. I hope it was an unusually slow Saturday night.
Oh, Uva...I love you, but not 5 stars love...yet. My buddy lives just a few blocks from here and we came here for dinner the other week. That day we just drove back up from SLO and we're a bit beat. Also, on the way up we stopped at In N Out and so we weren't starving but needed some food that night. So, we headed to Uva.
Right when we walked in, I could tell my buddy and his girlfriend were regulars. Everyone knew their name and after greeting them, introduced themselves to me. The decor was simple but perfect. We just sat at the bar and ordered some food and a glass of wine each. We started off with a meat and cheese platter. It came with some prosciutto, fennel flavored salami, and then some other meat that I wasn't too familiar with (looked similar to the prosciutto but a darker red color). The cheeses were a blue cheese, a brie cheese, and an aged sharp cheddar (don't remember their exact names). Served with this platter were 3 dishes consisting of almonds, honey, and dried apricots. This was the perfect start to the meal.
For our main meal, my buddy ordered Pancetta, chicken, and gorgonzola panini. His girlfriend ordered the prosciutto, raisins, and fresh mozzarella panini. I ordered the mixed lettuces, gorgonzola, pears and almond salad. I was still a little full from the burger, but this hit the spot wonderfully. After our meal, Chris the bartender, gave us some vanilla gelato. It was prepared in a way that I had never had nor had heard of. It was served with sea salt and olive oil mixed in. It was very strange, but very good. Although, there were bites that had too much salt in it, but that was a rarity.
The price for this place is way cheaper than what I was expecting it to be. I would recommend Uva for friends (not a large group) wanting to catch up or for a date place. The setting is intimate with the space size and lighting and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of service and food you get. Well done Uva Enoteca...well done indeed.
Lovely brick and steel decor with great happy hour prices. You get a good sampling of wines and appetizers. Their full wine list is pretty awesome (though rarely in English) and the bartenders have never steered me wrong.
I've only stayed for dinner twice and didn't think it was worth the money spent. Come early to start the night off but head elsewhere for a full meal.
Assorted meats, cheeses and veggies mixed with good pizza and wine?
AND A HAPPY HOUR!!?!?!
The last time I said "hell yes" faster was when I was offered a two for one coupon at Round Table.
I really do like this place.
It's unassuming from the outside but once you walk in, has a very cool atmosphere.
I've nicknamed Uva Enoteca "654" as in reason #654 why I love the lower haight.
Carrafe.
I am in love with sitting at the bar and cheaply taking advantage of the incredibly affordable happy hour or ordering one of their expertly executed salumi plates.
Gnocco Fritto: crispy balls of love and cheese, dusted and fried to be eaten with a lovely aioli.
Any salumi plate: best salumi in town by far (and I have had many).. every paper thin slice of meat sets off a unique symphony of aromas, tastes and textures in your mouth.
Wine: expertly chosen Italian wines. You can trust the people here to give you what you need - no more, no less.
Wine & beer cocktails: like nothing I have had anywhere else. I was blown away by the
IN BOCCA AL LUPO Lillet blanc, chilies, basil, prosecco &
coconut salt
Salad: (went home and tried to replicate it. didn't need the prawns) Prawns, peas, pea leaves, lemon aioli $10
I think the time is a little wonky for happy hour... a little early perhaps, but I hope more people catch on and not just for happy hour.. just a great place to chill with some great wine and food with friends.
The heavier pasta dishes were not my favorite, but I think I prefer soft fresh made pastas and that is not what UVA is about. The dishes are hearty and filling.
I love the quaint italian ambiance. Not something I would expect on haight. I would skip the food next time and just have wine or the ultras(beer, Ginger beer, thyme, lemon grass and lime...yummy-ness)!
Loved this place. It's intimate, charming, romantic and the wine and cheese and food is delicious. Loved the brick walls around it. This is a great date place or just a nice setting to catch up with some wine and food with your friends. Authentic italian menu written in italian as well.
Uva is the single best place in central San Francisco to bring a date. The wine list is amazing, and reasonable, the antipasti and light dishes are wonderful and full of flavor, and the entres are unique and interesting. The decor is great-- simple California wine-bar atmosphere-- but chic nonetheless. And, the guys who run this place are the coolest San Franciscans around. They're also there every night so you know they put a lot of love into this place.
I'd love to see what these young resteranteurs can do with their next place. Go to Uva a bunch and support thee upstarts-- they really have something great here.
Oh, fellas... chicks will really dig you and your knowledge of SF if you bring them here for a late night romantic snack/drink.
Uva is the best reason to visit the lower Haight.
