30 reviews for USA Moving & Storage
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I have to say 2 hours and 45. from a fourth floor walk up to a third floor. I didnt lift a finger.......they were so cool and it was the same crew that my friend used and he was with me during the move. I am a single gal and I was worried that I would get ripped off, not this company.
I only had two things die on me, an old TV 15 year old ,and one wine decanter. woops......no worries, gave me an excuse to buy a new flat screen. Thanks USA! ha ha.
I cant imagine using anyone else to be honest, and I will be using them again in the future, it was so nice not to be sore after a move.

I have to say I have yet to move but so far this company is amazing! They were a refferal from my… Read more »
Another year, another move. Used USA Moving again, a different crew than the guys that moved us last year, and still the top shelf operation I recall. Since it was end of month they were super busy and we had scheduled the last move of the day - they showed up at 8:30 pm after having been moving all day, took a look around the place, and got to work loading and wrapping blankets (with tons of tape!) around our furniture.
Two or so hours later we were unloading across town, these guys didn't even seemed phased by the fact that they'd been moving stuff for more than 12 hours, and still had unloading to do. We were in just past midnight, the guys were obviously tired, but *told me* "thank you!" as they were leaving - this is before I tipped them...!
Now we're homeowners so hopefully it'll be at least 5 years before we think of moving again, but when that times comes, no doubt USA will be my first and last call.

These guys just moved us last week and - wow! The price was a bit higher than other companies I… Read more »
These guys are AWESOME. Before this move, my boyfriend and I had moved twice before, and both of those moves were disasters, with broken things (our giant TV the first time, and a dresser the second) and high costs and just...ugh. This time, we went on the recommendation of a blogger, and the reviews on Yelp, and we seriously couldn't have been happier. The move was fast. Nothing got broken. Every piece of furniture was wrapped well. The price was nice and low. (And yes, paying with cash is a PITA, but we just took out a lot of money from the ATM, and re-deposited it after we paid.)
These guys are good, that's all I can say. I think they made our move into far less of a hassle than it could have been.
We were very happy with USA moving. They were incredibly efficient and fast. They wrapped up the furniture in almost 10-15 minutes (1 bd apartment) and the whole move took 1hr and 40 minutes.
We will never go with another company in the future.
Today I moved out of my apartment and into my new place. Again, I hired USA Moving and Storage (why wouldn't I?).
This time I got a 4 man team. The estimate was for about 2 hours for $300. I knew it was going to be higher than that. I had quite a few things that needed to be wrapped. But the estimate is well within my budget. I scheduled them for a Saturday at 8am.
7:59am, my buzzer sounds. The foreman comes in and has me do the paperwork while his crew starts to divide and conquer my living room. As always, I'm amazed at how well they wrap and protect everything. They do it so quickly and with such detail it'll blow you away.
The team was great at asking which boxes would go to storage, which would go to the apartment, and what I was leaving behind. Anything that wasn't in a box, they took care of.
About an hour later, we were off to my new place. I felt bad that they had to lug all of my heavy stuff up 4 flights of stairs, but they did it without complaint!
2 hours and 15 minutes to empty my apartment, fill up the new place, and put the rest in storage. The damage? About $400 + plus a tip to each guy. Not bad for 2 hours work in which you get to sit back and not be frazzled for the day!

This was the first time I have used a moving service. USA's quality in service, speed, and really… Read more »
Good service. I'd say it was worth it. Only issue was that one piece of furniture got scratched up pretty bad. For some reason they didn't wrap that piece up in blankets. I wasn't aware of the extra charge for tape, but won't fault them for that. There were also a couple items that they decided to put in boxes without asking, and the need for the box is debatable. Wouldn't have minded if they just asked first, since we ended up getting charged for it.
I picked USA Movers because they had good reviews on Yelp and the cost seemed pretty fair to me. I was really happy with the speed and efficiency of the 4-man crew and tipped them very well for moving me out of my small one-bedroom apartment into a much larger one-bedroom... on the fourth floor (no elevator)! They worked quickly and made sure that everything was packaged correctly to ensure that nothing would get damaged. I didn't feel like they overused tape (which a lot of people had warned me about) and they took care to ask me where I wanted everything at the new place.
My only semi-complaint was the somewhat unfriendly or maybe just cold service. The foreman of the crew didn't even introduce himself when he showed up with his guys -- *I* had to introduce myself and then he seemed kind of annoyed with having to do introductions. He was also very short and didn't say thank you at the end, even though I had just handed him a huge tip. I also wasn't wild about the service I got when I talked to them over the phone and I had even considered switching companies because of it but in the end I am glad I went with USA Moving. As long as you are okay with somewhat less friendly people doing your moving, I would recommend this company since they did a wonderful job with the actual move.
This is a late update but several months ago, we received everything back from storage. The whole experience was excellent - swift and pain-free. Our items had been stored well and there was no damage at all except for 1 chair caster (we stored a lot of big furniture). Jerry and the moving crew headed by Santiago were easy to work with.

So we're soon getting our beloved furniture out of storage (after many months) so I'll post an… Read more »
I've had some pretty scary moving experiences but I have to say that USA Moving & Storage have completely restored my faith in humanity! It took two hours to move my stuff from a one bedroom (with dedicated elevator) in Buena Park to a one bedroom (3rd Floor walk up) in Ravenswood.
Four guys arrived on time and got right to work. My old apartment was completely empty after 15 minutes. As other yelpers have noted, they use tape like it's going out of style. Twenty rolls of tape (it may have been more but I lost count after that!) later and we were off to the new place.
I've never seen guys climb stairs so fast. Boxes were stacked neatly in each room. My furniture was unwrapped quickly and without a scratch. I should also note that they were extremely careful not to scratch the hardwood floor.
Since I paid well under what I was quoted, I tipped the movers the balance and then some. It was well earned. I will definitely use USA again in the future.
I would rate USA Moving very highly. The woman I spoke with over the phone was helpful and followed up with me to confirm everything. We had them move us from a 3 bdrm condo to a house in the north burbs. We hired thme to come in a day before and pack a number of household items (platters, dishes, glasses, etc) and wrap all the furniture. From a packing standpoint, these guys worked tirelessly for 4 hrs straight and did a great job. Though there was an abundance of packing material used (though we have not discovered one scratch or broken item).
On moving day, they were there bright and early and systematically moved everything out to the truck. Moving into the house, they kept a steady stream of boxes and furniture coming in and brought everything to the right room, as well as set furniture where we wanted it. They went above and beyond when our armoire wouldn't fit up the stairwell (older house) and gave us the option of bringing it in thru the 2nd floor window. They hauled this 400lb thing right onto the roof and thru our bedroom window!
The four guys were courteous, friendly and speedy...all things you want in movers. The cost wasn't the highest I was quoted and it wasn't the cheapest, but I would say I would definitely hire them again or recommend.
On a side note: you can save some $$ by packing things yourself or transporting smaller items in your car, as they will saran wrap or box anything that isn't nailed down.
WOW. This seriously was the best moving experience of my life. First off, USA Moving and Storage was awesome in the fact that I had to change the date from Monday to Tuesday. They said "No problem" and even said if I'm available Tuesday morning they could do that. So I said yes. The movers showed up RIGHT ON TIME!! They came in, got started right away. I had packed up most of my stuff myself. I was given 10 free boxes as well as 3 wardrobe boxes they bring for your clothing. I felt a little guilty just doing nothing!!!
There was a guy from my building who was also moving but doing it the "bad way". Him, a buddy and a crappy U-Haul. I've been there. And it sucks.
Geez, ---one of the movers for ME helped get some stuff out of the elevator for the OTHER dude and even helped him move his couch! That's completely not part of their job but they were simply THAT NICE!!
I didn't want to be in their way so I left for 20 minutes and came back. In 20 minutes practically ALL OF MY STUFF was already in the truck!!!! Packed, safe, wrapped, and safe. Hell, I even saw one dude RUN from the truck to the building! 4 guys for what I paid?! It was worth every penny!! Sure, you can find cheaper moving companies. I think I saw a sign on Armitage that said "2 guys and a truck moving $75 an hour." But as my mom always said, "You get what you pay for." And this was sooooo worth it.
They were professional, FAST as lightning, and nice.
They moved me from my studio in Lakeview to a 2 bdrm in Bucktown. It took them 2 hours and 15 minutes!!!
Just a note from the other reviewers are right. THEY USE TAPE AND SUPPLIES LIKE THEY ARE GOING OUT OF STYLE ! You've never seen so much tape in your life!
So whatever quote you recieve remember to add maybe $50 or so because I know that's what it cost me above the quote. But they warned me about that when I was given my quote.
They didn't "scam" me, or charge me for anything they didn't do. All my stuff was in the appropriately labeled rooms, and bed was built and furniture all setup.
And yes, they don't take credit I just had cash on me the day of to give them payment and tip. You get a detailed breakdown of the move.
This was my second experience with movers. My first being horrific, I was prepared for the worst.
The movers overall were good.
They showed up on time. Their phone representatives where helpful and friendly. Although only one of them spoke English, they began working immediately and took excellent care of my things. They worked fairly quickly and wrapped all my stuff up nicely to survive the move.
I feel like they definitely got me with the money though. The charges for tape, boxes, and other packing materials adds up quickly and ended up being $100 on top of the other moving costs.
I live on the third floor of a walk up with a cement fire escape. You have to use those stairs to move. After a while, the movers definitely seemed to be getting tired (understandably) of moving my things out of the old place. The new place had an elevator though, and they were incredibly fast and efficient at unloading everything.
I had a much better experience with this move and definitely think it was worth it in the end. My total move took almost 4 hours and cost me $630 before tip.
It took three hours to move a one bedroom apartment on the third floor (slow elevator) to a condo on the 14th floor (fast elevator, dedicated to the movers). They worked really fast and everything showed up in one piece. They spend some time wrapping up your furniture to make sure it doesn't get damaged. They were friendly and the crew was really quiet also, which I think the neighbors in both buildings appreciate.
They give you some boxes to help you move, which might save you a little cash. Also, they'll bring a few wardrobe boxes on the day you move for you to hang clothes in.
You'll have to have a random amount of cash on you since they don't accept checks or credit cards. That's the only bad part about this otherwise excellent moving service.
Wow - looks like they've been busy!! I'll add my kudos as well :) We've used USA Moving on our last two moves (our most recent being last month) and they're awesome! They're incredibly fast, super friendly and will amaze you with their strength (seriously). They have pretty creative stacking abilities too :) You definitely don't feel like they're taking their time with your money - and if the building situation is less than ideal (say, oh, the freight elevator is locked down), they'll work around it with no qualms. They do like the packing tape, though - they'll go through quite a few rolls - zipping around and around the furniture. It may seem in excess, but your furniture is definitely protected and it'll make you giggle to watch.
The only slightly inconvenient aspect is that they no longer take credit cards - only cash, money order or certified check - which leaves a little guesswork in estimating a total. But that's minor - the whole experience is such a breeze that it's worth it. Now if I could just pack as quickly as they move ;)
they are the best. we'll be using USA for the 3rd time next month! it's super easy to make reservations, they are courteous and careful and although they are not the cheapest, their price is very competitive and worth every penny!
i made a pledge to never recommend movers to people i like (after a most unfortunate recommendation ) but they make me want to spread the word!
USA! USA! USA!!!!!!!!!!!
These guys were amazing. They showed up exactly when they said they were going to show up, walked into the apartment to survey it for no more than two minutes or so, and then got to work.
They did pad our belongings, especially some antique dinner table chairs we have, but they did the job quickly and efficiently (not sloppily). What most surprised us was their willingness--in fact, almost eagerness--to take things we had not really packed in boxes or that were just lying loose (such as books). We were planning on taking them ourselves, but they happily loaded it in the truck.
They arrived at the new place quickly and immediately set to work. They were bringing in everything so fast that we barely had time to think about where to tell them to put it (which is good)!
I should also say that stairs were involved in each location. Despite potential problems such as our gigantic couch and large bird cage, they maneuvered through everything easily and efficiently. I also like they they quickly reassembled the bed upon arrival.
I ended up paying exactly what I was quoted in addition to a hefty tip. I'll also add that this was something of a spur-of-the-moment move, and I found USA Moving MUCH more accommodating than other movers we had considered.
Highly, highly recommended.
I moved last weekend. I decided to try USA because of the Yelp reviews. Overall my experience was very positive. The crew, led by Jose, was professional and speedy as far as I could tell. I had a lot of boxes so it took longer than expected. I had one special piece of furniture that I was concerned about, but they got it up the stairs with no problem. It was a bit of a hassle to pay with cash/money order instead off a check or mastercard. I had to run to the ATM to get extra cash to pay for the extra time they needed. Also, keep in mind USA charges extra for any moving materials they use. I was cringing everytime I heard the tape dispenser. Of course, they did tell me that when I called for the estimate. I hope I don't have to use another mover for a long, long time, but if I do, I will definetely look them up again.
There's a reason that this company has an average of over four stars . They are really good! Very careful, reasonably priced, efficient, friendly and prompt. Given that moving companies are one of the most complained-about industries, this company is excellent. They wrapped the hell out of everything and used a ton of tape. It was kind of annoying un-taping everything, but it's better than the alternative (broken stuff).
The general public has set the bar very low for moving companies - and this company greatly exceeds that. If USA Moving is the only company that you've ever used, you may not truly appreciate them - I think you need to have a bad moving experience to recognize the quality of work that these folks do. Minus one star however. They broke a lamp. No big deal, it was a crappy lamp - minus the star because they kind of hid it in a corner and pretended they didn't break it. Fess up, guys, it's not a big deal and just makes you look sneaky to try to hide it. Did you think I wouldn't notice? Still....the best moving company I've used to date.
These guys moved us last Thursday and did a great job. "The Professionals" moved us about 6 months ago and did a great job as well. USA Moving was very professional, having a 4 man crew was huge. Their prices were very fair and they worked very hard and quickly to get us moved. They took great care to wrap every piece and not damage walls or floors.
Highly recommended.
I was moving across town, from a 2-bedroom apartment to a 3-bedroom. I was a bit nervous about getting movers, since there always seems like so much can go wrong, and there's a lot of trust involved. I picked USA Moving & Storage based on the reviews here on Yelp.
The summary: everything was excellent. Five stars.
The details: My window was scheduled for between 8:00 and 9:00. The four-man crew showed up at 8:10. The leader spoke decent English, and we ended up having no trouble communicating. The other guys didn't seem to speak much English, but this was absolutely not a problem. The whole crew was speedy, efficient, respectful, friendly, and competent. The stuff that needed wrapping got expertly wrapped. The boxes just got hauled out to their truck.
Unloading was a breeze. Nothing was broken or damaged. Their estimate was exactly on target.
The whole experience was pleasant, and I was quite happy. I will certainly use them again when I need movers.
Wow, these guys are awesome! I had a team of 4 guys. I moved from a first floor apartment to a 3rd floor walkup apartment. The job took about 2 hours. They did not waste any time. Everything arrived in perfect condition. They were quick, and they were careful with my furniture and the floors.
I had a ton of boxes. I was told to indicate, on the top, what room the boxes should go in. I did, and they sorted all the boxes and put them in the rooms I wanted. That saved me time in unpacking!
I hope I don't have to move again for a long time. If I do, I will call USA Moving and Storage.
i'm not exactly why i changed movers (i've moved waaaaaaayyyy too many times in the past 16 months), but i did. and this was a good experience. they were fast, on time and the total came in under what i expected to pay. unlike a previous mover, who complained that i lived on the 3rd floor, there was no bitching or kvetching over the overwhelmingly heavy and large pieces of furniture i own. in 4-5 hours they packed my roscoe village house, delivered to my lakeview apartment and put the rest of my stuff in storage in evanston. not bad.
as noted many other places, they love them some tape and boxes!! they charged me almost $200 in tape and box fees (and i had packed everything in boxes before they got there) used to wrap my furniture.
They were very fast, and they secured our belongings really well. We were pleased with them. They were polite and effiicient. One bit of warning - they will use a ton of tape wrapping up items you never thought needed to be wrapped.
This is the fourth time I've used USA Moving and Storage and they've always been very efficient and competent. They move quickly and work hard and never break a thing. My only beef is with the prices they charge for packing materials and how much they use. If they have to use boxes, tape or packing paper to wrap up anything (and trust me, they will use LOTS of it even if you can't think of how or why), expect to pay at least double what U-Haul charges for the same materials. Their moving boxes start at $3, and they charged me a whopping $50 per box for packing paper (U-Haul sells boxes for $9)--then claimed to use three boxes even though I found a huge stack sitting around after they left. I get the feeling the movers are encouraged to over-use materials because they went around each piece of furniture no fewer than 20 times with tape to secure the protective blankets, and that just seems totally wasteful and unnecessary. I also asked them to use the Dish Pack I had bought for packing dishes but they scoffed and packed each dish in twenty sheets of paper instead.
So...even though their per-hour charges for the men are on the low end, expect to pay an additional few hundo on the thirty rolls of tape, shrink-wrap, boxes, and paper they will use.
Very quick, courteous, professional and on-time. We had 4 guys to move a 1 bedroom from downtown to LP. They even stopped at my storage facility to pick up the rest of my crap! Would definitely use them again and recommend them for sure! Nothing was broken, they do pad things pretty well and wrap all furniture in blankets +/- boxes for support if needed. They even asked which room each box or piece of furniture went in...really cuts down on unpacking time for sure! So, label your boxes ahead! :) We also had them pack a couple of boxes in the kitchen, I ran out of boxes/paper. Very professional. They do let you borrow wardrobe boxes....so don't buy them!
Also, I did ALOT of background research on moving companies before choosing these guys. All their licenses are current and they have minimal complaints on file. Some helpful websites for you: http://movingscam.com, http://chicago.bbb.org (Better Business Bureau-"check out a business" read the complaint section), http://ai.volpe.dot.go... (to check their insurance and safety record, the DOT or MC will be listed on company website), http://www.safersys.or... (use same DOT or MC #).
Hope this helps...these guys were the obvious winners in my area!
I filled out a request for a quote on their website in the middle of last week, and they are supposed to get back to people within a day or two. I never heard back and called today, only to find out that - despite what the website claims - the company no longer does long-distance moves. I am only giving them a second star because the lady on the phone at least apologized (she said the people in charge should have called me).
These guys are f'ing awesome. I can highly recommend them to anyone- they are honest, fast and well, fast. We had heavy furniture and lots of boxes of books and they moved us in about three and a half hours and that inlcudes having to climb three flights of steps each trip. I was amazed.
Great job. We made a local move. I have moved 18 times (I know) and this by far was the nicest move I have ever made. They scheduled me in quickly, came out to look at our things (to give an estimate) and they arrived on time both days. Day 1 to pack us, Day 2 to move. They wrapped everything very well including every piece of furniture. They were extremely conscientious about everything from start to finish. I found them on Angies List and I feel this was well worth the money (especially the packing since I have two young children) and completely stress free.
My move ended up being a bit pricey compared to ones I've had in the past, but that could have to do with the fact that the elevator in my building broke the week before I moved out! I felt so bad for the moving guys having to take everything down the stairs!! They did a good job packing everything up, used a ton of tape though. It was kind of a pain to get the tape off of everything...the 4 man crew was fast and efficient and I would probably use them again.
Excellent and speedy - 4 guys packed my one bedroom apartment and had me completely moved to my new condo across town in under 5 hours on a rainy, icky day. Very professional crew, came in way under the estimated 8 hours!
Would definitely use this group again.
