Brooklyn, NY
Monday afternoon, friends and I are trolling about Brooklyn looking for a post office to check out. Standard. We happen upon this little gem. On the outside, it looks nothing special. American flag, engraved motto, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat" yadda yadda yadda (Bing "Seinfeld" if you don't get the reference) heard it all before. We're a tough bunch to impress, but once we were inside, one word:
"Woah." (Neo, "The Matrix")
This place was seriously popping. Eight teller windows, gorgeous gold-plated pens, tons of envelopes, sick Rolling Stones song ("Start Me Up") blasting from the radio. We eagerly got in the huge line and scoped out the VIPs. Standard Williamsburg crowd, hip kids from all around chilling with their boxes and PostSecret cards. I peeped Barry (homeless dude, kind of a big shot around the postal scene) catching a snooze over by the P.O. boxes.
After a long wait, we made it to the front. Our post officer Linda was a super hot babe. Jim ran some sick pick-up artist lines on her (he couldn't do kino because of the plastic partition, but he complimented her uniform and asked if she made it herself) while I gave the pen a test drive. Smooth as a heroic dog's fur. Terry put five bucks into the stamp machine and browsed the selection: a ton of classic stuff, including a pretty obscure Helen Keller 5 cent.
Jim got Linda's supervisor's digits (it was a dude, but that's cool because we're all bi) while I sneaked out a pen (word to the wise: if you want to up your postal game, check out Skrillatelist420's WikiHow guide on removing attached pens). Honestly, I can't sing this post office's praises enough. Easily one of the top twelve in the City. Next time you find yourself in Billyburg looking for quick package fix, make this stop numero uno ("number one"). -

Here's one.
I had a package that I wanted sent to Australia.
Where does the bitch send it?
Austria.
I (as usual) yelled at her behind the glass window for a while about how moronic she was, and another customer behind me from Austria got involved, her package had been sent to, wait for it,
Australia. -

Unfortunately, I have to give this post office one star! This is the absolute worst place ever!
I sent a package to my office, no one was there to receive it, fine. I call the post office, give them the tracking number, and the very rude phone lady finally decides to help me, unwillingly, and says my package is there. I go one hour later to pick it up and they say they "DO NOT" have the package!!! This was so infuriating! So, I gave them my number and they said someone would call me, that was Friday morning and it is now Monday, late afternoon, and I still have not received a phone call. I have been trying to call all day and all I get is a busy signal. Someone did answer once and left me on hold for 15 minutes so I decided to hang up.
There is no reason for this post office to even exist. The employees are absolutely miserable and not one bit helpful. I would rather have my packages delivered to my apartment when I'm not there and risk it sitting in my hallway all day than have to deal with this post office ever again! -

Seriously, this place is a nightmare. Been living in the neighborhood for over
30 years, the state decide to change my zip code from 11211 to 11249 because of
so many people living around here. They really need to add more staff members.

I wish yelp would allow me to give it a zero because that's what it honestly deserves. With only 4 people in front of me, it took close to an hour to pick up a package. It's no wonder with service like this that the postal service is losing money

No one ever believes me when I say this is the worst post office of all time. Except for people on Yelp, perhaps, because this is the worst post office of all time. I once lost a package because the dude here informed me that my name was not on the mailbox. This was not the mailman at my apartment, this was the man I was standing in front of in line at the post office, holding my official USPS change of address form that said I'd been receiving mail at that address for the past two months. But because my name was not on the mailbox, they could not check in the back for the package they lost. That, incidentally, never got recovered.
There was also the time my roommate's cousin sent us packages from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, only they were never received. We went to the post office to be informed they'd been returned to headquarters. Her cousin ordered them a second time, and guess how many packages showed up at our apartment? If you guessed four, you'd be right. We were just flat-out lied to. I try not to make assumptions about other people's lives, but everyone at this post office hates their jobs, themselves, and definitely you. -

Got in line to mail a letter and by the time I reached with window, the postage rates had gone up. Had to go to an ATM and get back in line. This time it was so long I started a yelp page on my smartphone, just for something to do. I guess I'm not the first person to think that one star is about a hundred too many. Seriously, though, this is the only post office in my experience where I picked up a box to find it had been opened, half its contents removed and filled with other people's mail. I didn't know if I should complain or write a review for Artforum. Complaining did no good, so I guess I should have at least tried to get ten cents a word out of the experience.

Three days in a row I've called concerning a "Delivered" package that WAS NEVER DELIVERED! And guess how many calls have been answered? One, and I've currently been on hold for 46 min. So I've been calling on my cell phone in addition to my work phone and of course the line is busy because IM STILL ON HOLD. I can already tell that retrieving this package of goods of over $200 is going to be a huge pain in the ass. I will not give up though. No fucking way!

I recently gave them some credit for trying. And I will take it all back.
I was missing mail after a 'hold mail' order, three people at the post office, including a supervisor, can't find anything and swear there is no mail.
All of them grumpy and with the foulest attitude possible.
I track down my mail delivery guy and ask him 'dude where is my mail - I cannot find it' - and he responds "because they are all a bunch of idiots in the post office. go tell them it is in the red 'hold mail bin' - I went back and guess where my mail was....

Worst Post Office EVER!! And I've been to plenty of terrible ones (Canal Street in Manhattan, anyone?).
Thank goodness for online tracking, because I would never get my packages otherwise. Four times now, I've tracked online, only to discover that it claims a delivery attempt notice was left, when it, in fact, was not. One time there was no tracking number, so the item (which was small enough to fit in a mailbox...I don't even understand why the postman wouldn't just leave it there) was sent back! And bear in mind that these instances happened at two different residences, so it's not just that I have a terrible postman--this is apparently a problem afflicting the whole branch.
Now I have another package that I'm waiting for, and the tracking tells me it went out for delivery a week ago, but it was never delivered and the tracking status has been stuck at "delivery status not updated" since the day it allegedly went out. I've called the 1-800 number numerous times, and all they do is tell me to call my local post office. Too bad no one ever answers the phone or I get a busy signal every single time! And god forbid they invest in a little thing called VOICEMAIL.
Worse, the last time I reached someone at the 1-800 number and told them there is never any answer at the Post Office, they told me I was calling the "wrong" number even though I was using the number on the USPS website! Of course, calling this new number, which by the way is 718-387-7605, I still get either no answer or a busy signal. This is ridiculous! At this point, I do not expect to ever see this package.
I would also like to point out that going to the Post Office is no better than attempting to have things re-delivered. Lines are ridiculously slow and there is never anyone around to simply answer a question. Additionally, while this office used to be open a bit later on weeknights (7, I think), it switched to closing at 5:30 p.m. maybe a year ago, so if you have a normal job it is basically impossible for you to visit the Office on any day but Saturday. Additionally, when they first changed hours, the sign on the front of the Office that lists the hours wasn't corrected for months, and neither were the hours listed on http://USPS.com or even their automated phone help.
Why is the United States Postal Service so horrificly inept??
UPDATE: I went to the Post Office in person the day after writing the above review, waited forever, then they couldn't find the package. Of course not! Instead, a guy mumbles something I could barely understand and gave me two more phone numbers to call. I called the next day and FINALLY got through. Not that it was any help...the woman just told me to keep an eye on the tracking and it should eventually tell me when the package goes back out. So now it's MY responsibility to make sure you do your job?? Five days later, on a Saturday, I walk out of my house just as a delivery truck pulls up. The driver hands me my package and it is completely crushed. Flattened! All four corners are ripped open and the sides are squished flat. Luckily, it wasn't a fragile item and there were no small pieces that could have fallen out.
Oh, and the cherry on top? The online tracking still says "delivery status not updated."
P.S. HERE ARE THE TWO PHONE NUMBERS THAT DO ACTUALLY WORK: 718-599-1495 and 718-348-3000 -

They sent my package parcel post instead of priority, like I said 3 TIMES!!! Don't bother filing a claim because, by the time they investigate, your package will be get to the destination late. And talking to the manager is a joke. How can a government institution hire that many uneducated, lazy people? These people get paid a TON of money for screwing up and being nasty.
Now, I will spend every day doing everything in my power to make sure that this postal worker is fired. Ignorant fools should be unemployed if they can't do their jobs correctly.
P.S. don't bother trying to call this post office. When the line isn't busy, they just ignore the ringing. They are the most worthless bunch of oxygen wasting rejects. -

I cannot trust them to deliver my mail. I know for a fact that one envelope was lost somehow. It was a bill too! Luckily the company didn't charge any late fees.
STILL. I cannot even begin to count just how many times they've bent me over and raped me. Mail getting lost, mail getting delivered a week late, mail being outside of our mailbox...

First off, my one star really should be a big, fat, zer0.
Next, I've lived in this neighborhood for 10 years and this Post Office has ALWAYS been a disaster of a hot mess.
On top of this, the mailman who has serviced my building since 2001 somehow manages:
- to NEVER leave a slip when a package can't be delivered
- to crumple every piece of mail, breaks my Netflix DVDs, and makes opening my mailbox impossible with his crumple/mail/oragami/sculpture mess. I'd understand if I had a small mailbox, but I don't, and I fully believe that he just has mail anger issues
I've given up on complaining and I've resigned myself to the fact that these government workers get paid more than me, and can't even provide a basic level of service.
I just try to send everything through another mail carrier just to avoid having to possibly deal with this USPS. I'll pay extra to avoid the hassle, no problem!

Too bad there's not a negative star rating on yelp. Countless pieces of mail lost. Credit card statements lost leading late fees. Ebay rating downgraded due to them either not sending things out on time or losing them. I cannot believe service can be this bad in a 1st world country. STAY AWAY! Oh yeah, they're total pricks if you try to deal with them & I've been receiving mail for people whom moved out of my apt 6 years ago.

Just bc I HAD TO give @ least 1 star do not mistake I actually gave them NO STARS! NEGATIVE STARS!
IDK how else to express my disdain for this AWFUL post office. Never in my life have I had such an issue with receiving mail! Never did I think I would actually comment on my experiences with a place like a POST OFFICE.
This has got to be the most dysfunctional bunch of rejects that ever walked the face of the earth. NOT just NYC. What's even MORE ridiculous is the fact that of the 70 something reviews EVERY SINGLE REVIEW is about how idiotic and non-functionable this post ofc is.
WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE STILL EMPLOYED HERE? WHY DON'T THEY WIPE OUT THE WHOLE LOT OF THEM AND BRING IN SOME NEW BLOOD BC CLEARLY THOSE CURRENTLY WORKING THERE ARE INCOMPETENT IDIOTS!
Our mail lady has NEVER come upstairs to even attempt to deliver a package. They are unable to even SCAN the mail for tracking purposes. It's as though your mail arrives into Williamsburg-11211 and then gets lost ina vortex of MAIL-HELL for about a week before there is any way to "track" it...

I'm writing this review to pass the time (wish I had thought of that an hour ago when I started waiting on this line ha ha).
It took 45 minutes to get to the front of the package pickup line (6 people ahead of me) and the other 15 (so far!) waiting for the one person working to find my package. Which arrived in Brooklyn yesterday.
Why? Why? Whyyyyyyyy?
There are currently 28 people waiting in this room, and 3 employees. (I think - they're never at the window at the same time so I can't be sure.)
I tried to share my pain with the U.S. Postal Service, but their online customer service makes it impossible to write in with complaints. I'm not ready to call the phone number yet because I think that would make the wait even more unpleasant for my 27 fellow waiters.
Everyone hates this post office, and it's clearly a staffing issue. Given that the postal service is a private-public company, what can we do?

So, I waited days for a package. Didn't get it. Checked status online and waited. For days it was "Out for delivery," and then one day, after I'd been home all day, it was updated to "Attempted delivery."
Dude, no, you didn't.
I filed a complaint at 311 and the next day ran into the delivery person. He doesn't have time to try to deliver ALL the packages, he said, because there can be hundreds. Instead, he just sets all the statuses to "Attempted" and then does the best he can.
Yes, he actually told me this.
He said if the status is "Attempted delivery" and they didn't really attempt delivery, the package will probably be delivered the next day. "Attempted delivery" status, apparently, really means "Didn't have time, but maybe we'll get to it eventually."
Worst. Post. Office. EVER. I actually did some research into whether one can sue the post office in small claims court for such massive negligence. Answer: no.

Way to close at 5:30, be the furthest possible distance from any and every subway stop that matters, and have horrible lines and slow-moving service.
Last time I was here was over the winter, and it took me over 20 minutes to pick up my package when there were only 5 people in front of me.
USPS is absolutely awful, and this place is even worse. It seems every time I have something delivered, even if it can fit in my mailbox, they force me to come pick it up and then I'm at this gem of an establishment hating my life and whatever decisions I made which got me there. Totally dreading my trip over there today. If by some miracle this place isn't horrible I will post a follow-up review. Wish me luck. -

This Post Office looks exactly like they treat their customers. Like a fresh pile of steaming shit.
The post office itself looks like it has not been cleaned or remodeled since the late 70's. I wouldn't care so much if they were not all assholes there. Over the years of coming here, the attitude of the employees is always the same, they act as if you have insulted them to ask them to do their job. I make it a point to pay extra for UPS and FedEx to avoid the sheer hassle of multiple trips and poor service to this butthole of a post office.
For a while we did not get a single Netflix delivered for a long time, unless it was a documentary or foreign, and they were always torn open. We complained. They made us send a written letter to the post master, and it suddenly stopped.
Of course I get similar service at the Rockefeller Center location near my work. I think that like the MTA, the USPS need a severe audit. A waste of tax dollars. -

Particularly bleak, even for a post office. I just avoid it and go to the one near where I work in Manhattan.

Yelp should have an option for negative stars.
This is the worst post office I've ever dealt with. Ever.
The lines are so long and inefficient that I got a PO Box in the East Village because it was quicker for me to take the L train to 14th St, stand in line there and get my mail than it was for me to pick up mail at the 11211 PO. Molly C. is right -- they can turn that pick-up line into an hour long experience. I've been in a 2 person line to pick up a package that took 45 minutes.
My first xmas living in Williamsburg, more than 60% of the packages loved ones sent to me went "missing." Card envelopes were regularly opened.
Delivery? For-fucking-get it. Did you know you were supposed to get THREE delivery slips? We never got more than one. Never. And one of those -- of course, for the most important certified mail I've ever had coming to me -- I found 3 days after it was "delivered," when we happened to be cleaning the street outside our apartment. It was in the gutter, squished in with trash and dog poo. (I put on latex gloves and brought it in to redeem it, natch.)
In 4 years in that apartment, I only ever had 2 deliveries actually brought to my door. With one of them, the driver looked distraught that I was actually there and that he would have to lift a 10lb box rather than shove a pink slip in the mail slot. (He was filling out the pink attempted-delivery slip without having rung my doorbell, as per usual.) The other time, I had a pretty expensive order (Signature-Confirmation-Required!) abandoned on the sidewalk outside my door. Now, this was Williamsburg -- there are no stoops, no cute little gates, just front door-sidewalk. USPS left my stuff on the sidewalk (oh, and it was raining) where anyone could take it. Fortunately, I got it, but that was just dumb luck.
Despite all of this loathesome service, I always smiled and tried to be nice to my mail carrier. (Because you should always try to befriend delivery people, wait staff and hairdressers.) For 2.5 years, he wouldn't even speak. I would say "Hi! How are you today?" and he'd grunt. Seriously. He grunted at me. This finally turned around one day when he came to the door with some of those brightly colored Very-Bad-News-Official-Mail letters for a neighbor, and he was all sunshine and lollipops after that. The dude was a sadist!
.
There was also one time when I went in and saw that they'd taped someone's forgotten out of state DL to the service window -- without obscuring her SSN!! That's COLD.
They're mean here. Real mean.
I was scared to write this review until I moved to another zip code. -

By far the worst post office in New York City. Refuses to ship large packages, doesn't understand international mailing, can turn a three person line into an hour long wait, and will leave children's vomit on the floor for hours.

WHO STOLE MY NEW SHOWER CURTAIN WITH THE COOL ANIMAL PRINT?!
The postman continues to leave packages in the lobby of our no-doorman (no locking front door in fact) apartment building. Even after tenants posted notes asking him not to leave packages in the lobby.
This morning I found my package ripped open with nothing in it but the packing slip. And a neighbor's birthday present from her aunt, also stolen.

This post office is a joke.
Most of the clerks are really sweet and helpful, but it does not even come close to meeting the needs of the neighborhood.
I often get letters addressed to downtown Brooklyn, write in big letters "Incorrect address, NOT EVEN THIS ZIP CODE" and return them only to have them wind up in my mail box again a few weeks later with my notes clearly visible. Do the mail carriers even look at what is going into the box???
The have also lost one of my packages and a ton of my mail.
I used to live in Bushwick and that post office is WAY better.
If at all possible go to the CPU at 442 Lorimer St. It will save you a headache and there is usually no one in there. Just be careful because they have tried to overcharge me on more than one occasion. -

This is the worst post office I've had the displeasure of dealing with, even by Brooklyn's already low standards. My mail, on days that it is delivered at all, is routinely either put in my neighbors' mailboxes or simply thrown on the floor.
For the last week, we haven't received any mail at all, just a note addressed to the building telling us "Key not in keykeeper. Please replace. Mail @ station". During a trip down to this post office, the one employee present (don't go after 5, even though it's technically open until 7) has no idea how to find our mail which might be kept somewhere within the station, and offers nothing in the way of suggestions or help. From what we've been able to piece together at this point from multiple phone calls and by ignoring statements that are obvious placating fabrications, it appears that our "regular" mail person decided to walk off the job with a key to our building, which makes me feel wonderfully safe.
Anyway, it's not as if there's much you can do about your home delivery if (like me) you happen to live in 11211, but if you need to use any postal services, just find a branch in Manhattan and stay far away from this place. -
