Wow, do I love this place!!!!!
I grew up in CT so I was pleasantly surprised to find out on my first visit that this place is owned by the owner of Pepe's , the famous Pizza place in New Haven, CT. I was told that they fly in coal and soda from CT (Note: They do not use the coal and soda together. The coal cooks the pizza an you can drink the soda while eating the pizza!)
The pizza has the same delicious thin crust taste that I know from New Haven pizza. The service is always very good and there are many toppings to choose from. My recent favorite is the red sauce with meatballs.
They also have an awesome salad that you can get with or without chicken as a starter. It is so good, that you can get too full to eat the pizza. Please don't do this. Eat the pizza, it is so delicious!!! The salad is great, but the pizza rocks!!!
I look forward to going here every time I am in Vista. I hope they open a location in Los Angeles in the future! -

The only way the small pizza could satisfy two people is if they were both on 1,000 calorie per day diets. A large pie with two toppings and two soft drinks will set you back $30. It was decent pizza, but grossly overpriced. The physical plant has that post apocalyptic look with concrete floors, cement board on the walls, and rusty metal furniture.
There is better out there for less. -

The rating is mostly based on the food & menu options..It was my first time ever visiting this place & i have heard about it but never ate anything from here. i looked at the menu & it was pretty basic for most pizza joints but i was wanting a salad than a pizza!
They didnt even have a salad at all, omg im gonna die huh! lol it was just a surprise out of all the pizza places ive been to they all had salad..so i forced myself to custom order a pizza.
Customer service was great, from the time i ordered my pizza to the time i sat down my pizza came fairly quick & it looked delicious.
ok so this is where it gets a little downhill from, i took my first bite & the ingredients they use & the crust definitely threw me off. the pizza was cooked to a crispy potatoe chip which i did not like & the ingredients used really sucked compared to Uppercrust pizza.
Overall, service was great but ive had better tasting pizza.
id only go here if i was invited to come here like a birthday or a date, other than that i wouldnt personally choose this place. -

Had lunch at urbn in vista; salad and small pizza..incredible. Food was great, service friendly and attentive. This will be one of our regular places, well worth the drive from so. Carlsbad.
As to review that said the pizza was too small for two..she/he must have ordered a mini lunch pizza because the small pizza and house salad was more than the two of us could eat (really!), half a pizza left for dinner.
Menu is limited to pizza and salad (i think),but fresh interesting toppings. If you like Union in encinitas, you'll like URBN. -

I love Basic's pizza, and was so excited to learn that Urban is its little sister pizza shop. I took a few coworkers there at lunchtime and- what a bummer- this place was completely empty the whole time we sat there. I think Vista is cursed. Really awesome places like this have a hard time surviving here, for whatever reason. Much like (RIP) Dell'z and Park Deli.
We shared a scrumptious small pizza (it was really big for a small) and a chicken salad (also huge- well worth the 8 bucks). The three of us were raving for days about how yummy the pizza and salad were, what a great deal it was, how we must go back at least once a week, and about how cute the guy working there is. 'Broad back' and 'muscular arms' came up time and time again. What!?... when you work at a school district, the eye candy is rare so you get it when you can :)
I'll be back once a week for as long as this place stays open! Hopefully a LOOOONG time!
*free toppings on Tuesday's, folks!* -

...the service sucked here....came in, sat down, and waited for about 10 minutes before someone behind the counter noticed and told us there was no waiter service.....
...the pizza was great....they specialize in thin style pies which i like...also,
a thumbs UP for their abundant variety of toppings they offer....really let's you experiment and mix it up.....which was cool....
.....big knock on this place is the prices....$14 for just the base of a large pizza....and that doesn't even include cheese, just olive oil and sauce?!?!? My friends there is a $2 surcharge (essentially) for cheese on a pizza....i know it's bizarre.....by the time you are done adding a few topping expect your pockets to feel a little lighter....don't get me wrong i love throwing money around, especially on food....but don't be under the impression that just because this place has a cool logo that the pizza will be any better than what you can get at any local pizza stand for $2 a slice....and at the end of the day, wasn't pizza meant to be a cheap alternative?
....save your money.... -

Hate on me if you want, but URBN is a bit overpriced. Yes, they cook with fresh ingredients. Yes, they cook using coal which brings out that smokey flavor. But when a small pizza comes out to $17 and it's still not filling, that's just wrong. And yes, we ate breakfast that morning.
My fiance and I devoured that thing like vultures on a dead carcass. Scoop and scrape up every part of that meal. I could count the shreds of onion, sun dried tomatoes, and pepperoni which brought the price up a good $4-$5... that's not good, because that basically indicated that each time they put a single sliver of the toppings on, it costed some $0.25 -- there was only one friggin' pepperoni piece on each slice. And as flavorful as it is, nothing adheres to the crust. I wanted to try to replicate a BBQ chicken pizza, but with chicken costing $2-$4 alone, on top of the base, I couldn't bring myself to spend $20 on a single small pie.
Thank god I didn't, because the small, as deceptively large as it looked, wasn't filling for two despite the recommendation by the staff.
If this place is popular at all, I feel like URBN would be a bit overhyped. Sure it's tasty, but if you went to Papa John's or Domino's and you were basically scraping the toppings off the box as it fell off the pizza, you'd call it cardboard, paper thin, and criticize the company for such poor design or thought into the pie. Just like artists shouldn't get away with calling their work "abstract" for bad art, URBN shouldn't get away with selling thin pizza and charging gas prices for barely any toppings because they don't cut the pizza symmetrically. If they weren't so stingy on the toppings, I'd have a change of heart. Otherwise, I get the feeling there's a reason why the locals don't seem to rushing in to buy pizza from here... it's over priced and doesn't offer bang for your buck.
I'll try again on a Tuesday if I remember. At least you get free toppings* then. Otherwise, go here on a pay day. Or if you've got cash to burn. Or if you want to go with style over substance.
*Limit two. Still pretty stingy. -

I'm on a life long hunt for the perfect pizza. Thin crust, fresh ingredients, flavorful sauce that isn't pasty, cheese that's melted not rubbery. Not a fan of greasy. To me its all about something tasting fresh. Seems easy, right? Wrong! URBN is the only pizza I've tried in the area that came pretty close. Their pizzas are indeed fresh, and have a great selection of toppings. The breadsticks were delicious. The guy made a comment about how he loves making the cheesy breadsticks and how he looks forward to people ordering them just do he can make them. So there, they are made with love. I'll definitely be coming back.

NEW LEASE ON LIFE.
URBN Vista was adrift for a while. Quality was inconsistent. I had a craving for one of their pies for lunch today and as soon as I walked in I could tell something was different. In talking with the guy running the place today (never seen him before) I discovered that URBN Vista is now under new ownership! There's new hope that this place with CONSISTENTLY be the best pizza place in N County.
The new owner's name is Joe and he seems anxious to hear input and committed to get this place on track. I told him my complaint that the topping prices were too high making it easy to order a $30 pie that only feeds two. He agreed and promised this was changing. In fact, the place is getting a makeover soon and will relaunch.
Still have high praise for the pizzas (only get a few toppings at most) and great prices on craft beer.
This was the best news I've had all day. Give URBN a new try.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Excellent pizza. This place is the sister of Basic downtown so very similar if you've been there. I love the thin, smoky woodfire crust and quality toppings, my favorite kind of pizza :)
The atmosphere on the other hand...well, it's Vista. I appreciate what they're trying to do but it's like the cheaper version of Basic in here. I'd definitely come again if I lived in Vista but it's not cool enough to make it worth the drive. -
Review from Andrew N.
Coal fired thin crust pizza. This is hands down my most favorite place to grab pizza in North County. They are the same as Basics downtown, but without the bar. They do serve beer here and pitchers aren't expensive. very reasonable. They make the pizza fresh to order and the ingredients are good. You basically create your own pizza starting off with a red or white source and then add cheese and go from there. The large will feed 2 people very full.
I ordered a white with mozzarella, added ricotta and then basil and tomatoes. Really very good. The coal fire helps give the crust a very nice crunch. Not so much that its overcooked, just enough.
I'd go on a Tuesday when the first two toppings are free, but really anytime is good. You can call in your order ahead since their menu is online.Listed in: My San Diego go tos.

Vista, CA
A cashier at Trader Joe's told me about this place since I recently moved to Vista. I took my two kids with me and the people who work there were super nice. They gave both my kids some pizza dough to play with and eat, they loved it.
There are two sizes to choose from, small (the size of a normal large pizza), and large (big big). They have all sorts of toppings to choose from, some interesting. For example you can order a small white sauce based pizza with mashed potatoes bacon and egg. I ended up ordering a small red sauce based pizza with eggplant and chicken.
I have to say hands down the best pizza I have ever had. It was thin crust, I didn't think we'd finish the whole small (my kids are 6 and 2) but we polished off the whole thing, so although the pizza looks big, with the thinner crust you can take it on. The eggplant was fried and crispy and just tasted amazing... the cheeses and the very tasty coal cooked crust was just outstanding. Definitely worth a visit, at least once. I will be going back multiple times... it was that good. -
Review from Nino R.
If you're a pizza veteran, then you know what works on a pizza. And by pizza veteran, I mean someone that doesn't consider Papa John's fare...pizza. I've had pizza, many pizzas, in CA and NY and most states in between, but what they've got going on at URBN is something I haven't experienced too often.
What URBN does is focus on making great food. And when you offer great food, a great time is a usual result. I was very happy with my recent dining experience here. I was able to sample a red pizza with mozz, sausage, and mushrooms as well as the URBN salad w/ chicken and cheesy breadsticks.
The cashier mentioned that this was a lot of food, but my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I did not heed the words of this wise sage. When the salad came out, I knew it was going to be a long night. I expected the salad to be half the size! Still, it's a great salad; walnuts, grilled chicken, crumbled blue cheese, apples, and a host of leafy greens make for a decent meal in itself.
The cheesy breadsticks were exactly that and oh so good.
The pie was perfect. Charred on the edges and bubbling in the center. Nice chunks of sausage and a liberal spread of mushrooms made for an epic combo. I probably should've passed on a pitcher of Stella (GF nods vigorously) and went with a pint instead. I'm convinced that was my downfall.
If you're familiar with their other location, then you're obviously aware of their differences. Vista URBN has a vibe more conducive for meal and companion enjoyment. Although having a full bar would be nice, the experience would suffer for it. It wouldn't be just about the pizza.
And the pizza, oh the pizza... -
Review from Bernie M.
Don't get me wrong--I love me some mashed potato pizza. However, having been to Bar Basic downtown and even walking past the other URBN location in North Park, this place really doesn't compare. It really is a very quiet and empty place that is run by only two staff members. The two young ladies seemed straight out of high school and I really felt like quite a nuisance ordering food. It took a while before they even helped us. I don't know what was up with that. We were standing right in front of the register. And, although quiet may be a good quality in a restaurant, sometimes I want a little "life" in the place.
The food however is pretty much up to par with the other two restaurants I listed above. We ordered the URBN salad, which is delicious and definitely huge for two people to eat. I always love the candied walnuts, pears, bleu cheese on salad combination. It was also only $6 which is a good deal. We had a small white pizza with mashed potatoes, bacon and spinach. Loved it! Again, we couldn't finish the entire thing. Our order totaled $24 which is very reasonable.
This area of Vista is like a sleepy town because there was so much parking and its very quiet. I noticed a couple of regulars coming in and out of the place, so at least they love it. I hope next time I come in, it'll be a more welcoming experience. Good thing the food is tasty. -

I have no idea what these other people are talking about, but this place is ridiculous! My boyfriend and I just moved here from Massachusetts, so I checked out pizza places in Vista on Yelp. This place had good reviews, so I ordered a large, three-topping pizza over the phone for take-out. The place is spacious (read: high ceiling) with space for maybe 20 people to sit down to eat. When I came to pick up the pizza, much to my surprise, the pizza cost $29! You can get 2 large 3-topping pizzas for that! So, thinking maybe this was just extraordinary pizza and, after all, I ordered it, I paid for this pizza and took it home. This pizza was advertised as thin, "coal-fired" pizza. I found my pizza to have very crispy edges (tastes of charcoal and not much else) and the middle to be very floppy and flat. You pick up a piece by the crust and the rest flops down.
I will never order from this place again. -

I went here with my boyfriend on our way home from Long Beach. The staff was super helpful and patient (because I'm a girl and I need time to think). I loved the environment and the music was awesome. I definitely recommend this place! The only recommendation my boyfriend had was to have more craft beers on tap.

The perfect pizza is different for everyone depending on what you grew up eating, or what you've been exposed to. If you grew up in Italy, then this is your kinda pizza. Now, if you grew up eating some of the chain pizzerias, your gonna say its to thin or its to expensive.
This is traditional pizza, and its AMAZINGLY GOOD!!! -

This place is great. They use quality ingredients, cook the pizza perfectly, the pricing is fair, and there is an owner/manager making sure everything is running smooth.
I was visiting a nearby city and based on other reviews I went to this restaurant twice. Both times the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. The place was busy and the staff was working hard and fast.
The place is clean, nicely decorated and has a great vibe. Very hip, especially considering where it's located.
SALAD - They do have one and it was great. -

Vista, CA
my .02 its too soft to eat without rolling or folding it. I love thin crust, but I think it should be relatively crispy. This one was super soft, I mean like soggy soft. I think if they cooked the pizzas on a metal pizza tray instead of straight on the stone, it would be much better. But I think this is just how they wanted them done. Its just not my style. I never liked thick crust pizza, but thin crust has to have a certain level of firmness so that when you pick it up, it doesn't flap down. Also I'm a fan of when places put some corn meal under the pizza when it cooks, to give it that extra crisp. I didn't notice that here. It is a bit pricey too, think I spent $25 with a few dollars tip for a large with 2 toppings, and maybe would fill up 1 to 2 people max. (its pretty big in diameter, just really really thin) hmmm maybe I should open a pizza place the margins must be killer.

The pizza here is great! My husband LOVES the only salad they offer. I think it's only alright but he says it's great! The prices are reasonable and the portions are enormous. When they start carrying ranch dressing, I'll up their score to 5 stars :)

Very tasty, REAL coal-fired pizza. The new owner Joe Capozzoli (yes, formerly owner of Capozzoli's restaurant) is a great guy and makes great food. Hopefully, he'll be making his chicken marsala (as well as other chicken dishes) and pasta dishes soon too. This is serious thin crust pizza, so don't load it up with a bunch of heavy toppings. My favorite is pepperoni, basil, and garlic.

A find... While not quite Neapolitan pizza this is a suitable replacement if you're looking for that extra thin, somewhat charred crust pizza.
Although this place shares the same restaurant name as the URBN Pizza in North Park they are two totally different experiences. Let's just say the North Park location is very "metro" with it's music, extended menu, and perfectly waxed eyebrows all around. The Vista location could be best described as simply "glamis".
The Vista store is a one guy operation, at least it was the day I was there. One guy taking the orders, building and firing the pies, and then serving.
The Salad ( they only have one at this location and it's terrific). A very generous portion for the price and it was absolutely delicious. Though I'd probably be a little more discrete pulling out the large bag of micro-greens and other Costco ingredients out of the cooler when assembling it. At least make us think it's somewhat fresh.

The Pizza -
Charred, but in a good way. Very thin and quite robust when you add their charcuterie style meats.
I would not recommend adding more than two toppings on this type of pie. Toppings are quite expensive and secondly the thin crust will not hold up well to the weight.

Went back again for lunch with the co-workers. Just had a salad this time around and I really liked it again. It's the salad with apples, chicken, candied walnuts, cheese and a really light olive oil type dressing. Very simple but great tasting. Definately a large portion as I ended up taking some home.

This is a nice place. Went there with my boyfriend for lunch and we were the only ones. We got their lunch special, and it was really good pizza. If you want the taste of love and Jesus and goodness all up in your stuffs, get a red pie with cheese with ricotta, meatball, basil, and tomato. Do eet!
Recently, we tried a mashed potato, broccoli, and bacon pizza because it seemed like the hip thing to do. Pass. I mean, it was good and interesting, but nothing like my sweet ricotta masterpiece.
The breadsticks. Hey, Urbn! Those breadsticks were a good idear. They are soft and garlic-y and just so, so good.
The salad is pretty delicious. But. I'm not a salad-with-my-pizza kind of woman, I guess. It's good, but I don't need it. I'm just dandy with my stickies and my pizza. I'll eat some veggies within the next 24 hours, gosh. I'll be fine!
I enjoy the music. There's a TV over at the bar but we always sit at a table. Last time we went, I drank half a $20 bottle of wine. So that was neato.
So, yeah. Urbn's interesting pizza is OK in my book. I enjoy their thin, almost burnt crust.
Thank you, and good day.

So I went here thinking this place would earn five stars from all the reviews however, three is the best I can do.
Pros;
Great flavor on the pizza, very fresh and I enjoyed the whole stone fired action
Reasonable prices for what I consider to be a gourmet pie. Small two topping pizza enough for three, a large breadsticks an three fountain drinks for about $18.
Cons;
Pizza was way too thin. Really hard to pick up and eat as it was soggy especially towards the end-middle.
Toppings did not cover every slice so no pepperoni or bacon for all
Breadsticks could have been cooked a little longer
Vista is for the most part one of my least favorite places and the location is horrible. If they could address the above issues, this place belongs where it can get the proper exposure.
Bottom line here was about 3.5 stars so I settled on 3.
Worth checking out for yourself, don't let the reviews sway you into not trying it, it's worth that.
Enjoy. -

So I was in the area and looked at my Yelp app and asked my girlfriend if she wanted Thai or Pizza? Pizza it was and 5 stars later and here goes the review...
This Pizza joint has it going on just the way I like it, thin crust, super fresh ingredients, and beers on tap (a few)!! We first sat down and looked at what they had to offer, super simple menu: Sm or Lg? White or Red? What do you want on it? Just like that... the pizza's are oval so they can fit there cooking tray that they serve the pizza's on. We got a Sm. Red sauce with 1/2 pep-meatballs-mush and 1/2 pep-oni-gr.pep and it was the best pizza I've had in a while! The crust was delicious and the ingredients were super fresh! Try the meatballs on your pizza, they're great!
I can't wait to go back and try their white sauce, mmmmm white sauce with meatballs and onion? My girlfriend won't go for that but that sounds delicious... :P
Don't come here if your favorite pizza is a $5 generic corporate pizza...
Try it for yourself....

Been here a couple of times and must admit that I love it...
Been to New York only for a week a few years ago, but it imprinted on my mind just how limited we are on the West Coast. Every 'take out' pizza place is just a thick crust stuffed with some crap or another and loaded with as much meat and cheese as they can muster. Sometimes less is much, much ... MUCH better!
And while most New York pizza is hand-held and foldable, the guys here at URBN can take a step beyond and crisp up their crust until it's paper thin and still holds it's flat shape as you eat. And that blackened layer you see on the bottom of your crust, trust me, it's supposed to be there and it's sweet and adds a new dimension that West Coast and Chicago style lack.
They have an incredible selection of toppings that you can mix and match to suit your tastes. My personal favorite is white sauce, garlic, basil, and ricotta cheese. But you can get a pepperoni if you're not adventurous. Great place, thoroughly reccomend it.
Just do yourself a favor and ask for light on the sauce. -

We stumbled upon this place after a restaurant across the street was too full. Glad we did!
My wife and I ordered a half-and-half pizza with pepperoni on one half and ricotta cheese on the other. We prefer thin crust and this did not disappoint. It was outstanding, served hot. Having Stone Brewery beer on tap bumped the experience from 4 stars to 5.
We were told that their mashed potato pizza is the bee's knees, and we will try it next time we're in there. But for starters, we wanted to try our old favorites and we loved both of them.
URBN is located on a neat little street in the Vista Village area, and I've always wondered why that street isn't more popular than it is. Hopefully, restaurants like URBN gather enough of a following to change that. They deserve it. -

URBN Pizza is such an unexpected treat for Vista! Unlike anything else in North County. Hooray for thin crust!
The pizza is super thin crust, but it's not crispy. It comes out on a baking dish, and is definitely free form.
I ordered a small red pizza with mozzarella, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms and garlic. It was delicious. The pizza dough they use is thin, but the crust is fluffy. While the toppings are expensive, the quality is definitely there.
A small pizza is large enough to feed 2. At first glance, the small is really big, but you need to get a large if you have 3 people...or 2 really really hungry dudes. It's that thin crust...it's really deceiving!
The small red pie with mozzarella is $10 ($16 for a large). From there, you add toppings ranging in price from $.50 for a small garlic topping, to $12 for a large Little Neck Clam topping. Mid range for small toppings is about $2. Large is about $4.
They also have breadsticks that look pretty good, and a Salad that includes mixed greens, pears, candied walnuts, and gorgonzola in a light vinaigrette.
Beers on tap, and wine by the glass, carafe, and bottle!
AND, they deliver! I asked if they deliver to my area (just South of the 78 on College for all you stalkers), and they said we should call, ask really nicely, and tip well--and there would be a possibility. It made me laugh, but I will definitely be calling them! -

Thin crust pie cooked in a coal fired oven with beers on tap is my kind of joint!
The mashed potato and bacon pie is great if you dig the swine. If you are a veggiesaurus, I recommend the white pie with mozzarella, ricotta topped with spinach. Fried eggplant is good topping too. Don't forget to order a salad to share with your friends. Greens, pear, house candied walnuts and crumbled Gorgonzola. A classic combination and it hits the spot.
I would throw in another star and come by more often if they get more craft beers on tap. -

Overall = not bad.
The pizza was tasty but too thin. We ordered a small white pizza with mozzarella that was at first $10. This could feed maybe 2-3 people. Then we added some more toppings. For a small pizza, ricotta cheese was $2, basil was .50 cents, tomato was $1, and mushrooms was $1 (I think). The toppings were too heavy for the pizza crust. That's my only complaint. I like thin crust pizza but hopefully the thin crust can still manage the toppings. Otherwise, it tasted pretty good.
We also had the house salad. They only have one salad, one size for $6. It was mixed greens, gorgonzola cheese, pears, and candied walnuts. It was lightly dressed with some vinaigrette that was also very good. My only complaint with this one is that walnuts were too candied. And I mean golf ball sized clumps of candied walnuts. Okay if you have a sweet tooth but sort of defeats the purpose of the salad.
Service was good. They comped me a drink because I had to wait for a whole 3-5 minutes. No biggie but much appreciated. -

I consider myself to be a pizza aficionado; having tried pizza from almost every major city in the world, and Urbn pizza can only be compared to the best pizza in Naples, Italy. The dough they make is a top secret recipe, and I have even inquired with the owner about employment, just so I could learn how they do it! I think they make their employees sign a confidentiality agreement or something. Prices are slightly higher, but well worth it. Beer selection is great too, and don't forget to try their amazing salad with gorgonzola!

Pricing is a bit more than a usual pizza place, but this stuff is fresh so I guess that is the trade off. I would think, for the prices, it would be full serve. Anyhow, you order at the counter and they bring the pizza and food out to you. Fresh, HOT pizza and cold salad. The pizza doesn't stay hot for a long and doesn't taste as good when it is colder. I noticed that it took a while for the salad to come out, and then the pizza came out when we were about 1/2 done with the salad.
They also don't have sugar for the ice tea. Just the yellow chemical sweetener packets. I asked for sugar and they brought out a bowl of sugar. (what a waste).
Outside, the neighborhood looked a bit sketchy. I went to a parking lot on the side of the restaurant, and it was all reserved. Fortunately a car pulled out from the street parking. I later found out that you can park in the empty lot across the street too.
Place was enjoyable, just eat really fast before the pizza gets cold.
