I used to feed my cat whatever looked good at Target. This usually was Iams wet food and Purina dry food. When i found out how absolutely depolorable this stuff was, i was looking for solutions.

I saw this place when i first moved in around the block. I avoided going there at first because of the assumption that it would be "too expensive." After doing some research on cat food, i thought i would try the "Wellness Brand." I figured that Urbanimal would carry it.

What i think is very helpful is that they sell big cans here that are less per ounce than the small single serving can. They trick is to partition them into small 4 oz glad containers and sticking them in the fridge or freezer after you open the can. I only have one cat, so i go through a big can a week.

So if you think you can't afford to feed your cat the good stuff. Let's do some math. Wellness brand (which is REALLY fantastic) goes for 2.79 (3.01 after tax) for a 12.5 ounce can which is like 4 cans of Iams or Fancy Feast so that is about 75 cents a can, only 25 cents more than what i paid for Iams or Fancy Feast (don't get me started with Frisky or 99lives) and the quality is 100 fold. They also carry another brand called Felidae (not as good quality as Wellness but does not count ingredients such as by-products and brewer's rice, ick!) which is only 1.29 for a 13 oz can...that is much less than Iams or Fancy Feast!

So the notion that a place like this would be really expensive, is pretty much debunked. Urbanimal carries a large range of high quality petfoods and pet products, from reasonable to spendy. You just gotta do the math! I know that if they carry it here, it has to be of good quality which is why i shop here.

I could go on and on about all the reasons I love this store. The first is that they have high quality food and treats so I never have to worry that I'm not feeding my dogs (who are like my children) the very best stuff. It makes me feel like a good dog my getting them stuff from here.

Their delivery is amazing. Free delivery anywhere in the metro? Are you kidding!?! So convenient! Not only does your food automatically appear at your door, they even delivered a gift to my sister's house. The gift was a kitty condo/scratching post type thing. I was SO glad I didn't have to haul that thing!

They are GREAT!

I've mentioned before I have a certain fondness for places within walking distance. If I can get what I need without hopping in the car, all the better. So I'm inclined to give any place within walking distance a passing grade.

Urbanimal exceeds my passing grade. The staff there is always friendly and helpful. My dog sure loves them, too. They're the ones who taught me how to turn his kong into a puppy popsicle, and they always have a treat for him. He's pretty used to the walk to the Wedge now, but the moment we cross Lyndale he knows something good is coming. He'll start dragging me to the place of a thousand smells, or as I call it, the place of the misbehaving puppy.

The food here looks pricey, it's all the better quality stuff (so I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about the chinese assassinating your dog). They also have a delivery service, which I've meaning to look into. They have some toys and basic supplies, but more than once I've not been able to find what I was looking for in those sections (e.g. a certain kind of leash, a certain length tether).

Overall, convenient and friendly, and that works for me. If you're pinching your pennies or need a wider selection, you might have to haul out to one of the megapetstores.

I never thought I'd say this but, I think I'd rather go to Petco than Urbanimal.

When I lived in the neighborhood I looooved this place. They had so much stuff and it was all really high quality (and you're going to pay for that.) Heck, I even adopted one of my cats here. I went today for the first time in about a year and I thought they were going out of business. Maybe people can't afford the "gucci" (as my mom would call it) stuff for their pets anymore, I don't know but, they have definitely cut back on their stock. You can find all of the food they carry at either Petco or Chuck and Don's and, sadly, I think I'm going to stick to both of those places from now on.

The staff is usually pretty friendly EXCEPT for the one time I got shit when I brought Carl in when he was a puppy and I told them he came from a breeder. I'm sure they probably think that there's a level in hell for me somewhere, but I'd like to think the fact that I am responsible and LOVE MY DOGS more than make up for who I handed the money to in the first place.

I guess I can't say too much about this place since I didn't go there to purchase anything.  My daughter and I went here on a Sunday morning to visit some furry friends during a Pitbull Rescue Meet-n-Greet that my friend was running.  I thought it was really cool that they had a separate area that was fenced off where he dogs could be with their crates and we could go inside and pet and play with them all.  I must say, though, that after we were done looking at the dogs and came out to wander around the store, no one came over to ask us if we needed help or anything.  And we were definitely wandering around with total deer-in-headlights looks and had no idea where to find anything.  They also seemed to have very limited stock.

I know this place is a little expensive.. but it is so convenient for me since I live by Loring Park. The staff is helpful, and they recommended a cat food that really has helped my kitty shed extra pounds. Too bad they were out of it last time I popped in! Overall... pretty ok place.

What a fucking stupid name.

I have cats and have been here only for cat supplies. They have a really low stock of food for kittens, and what they do have mostly had the poison and has recently been removed from the shelves. Everything is rather expensive, but you're paying for the neighborhood here. They have a two for one deal on bulk kitty litter, but only if you buy special pails from them, and oh, they've been out of pails for at least six months.

I only go here when I absolutely can't go anywhere else.

UPDATE: The pails are back in stock. Yay them.

UPDATE 2: They were playing Spacemen 3 throughout the store last time I visited. +1!

I recently went here and was not impressed.  The staff has a "know-it-all" attitude, and was very insulting. Go to Chuck and Don's

Extremely expensive and crappy attitudes from the employees.  There's very much a holier than thou sort of feeling eminating from everyone I've seen who works there.  Don't go there looking for a pinch collar or they might attack you for being cruel (despite the fact you've tried every other more "humane" collar and each one of them failed).

The cheapest dog bed I saw there was about $80.  You can get the same quality at Petsmart for $30.
