Eeehh! I love UB Merch. Most of it is pretty cool. but I can't seem to gel with the kids that work here ... my experience with them has always been average. They seem be very snobbish and unfriendly.

I love Urban and I am a sucker for all of their cute gifts and sales. I find this location does not have as much stock as others and their sale section is really bad. Most of the items in the sale area are just crop tops and really really small bathing suits.I was expecting to see a bit more and for it to be a bit more cleaned up as everything was quite messy. Right now I am enjoying that they have a different thing on sale each day for the holidays. Yesterday sale was half off which was nice. Their home area is also a bit smaller compared to other stores and I wish they had more stock.

I'm writing this review mostly to provide proof that you can still snag an FTR in Chicago proper. This was brought to my attention when I couldn't check-in on my Android. Wild, huh?
So, this Urban Outfitters outpost opened back in December of 2010. A few months in, the space has yet to lose its new car smell. The store is all-out sparkly clean and even more organized than my condo immediately post-Anna (that's my hired domestic goddess). I really don't shop UO for summerific spaghetti-strap sundresses the way I used to (they're overpriced here), but I do dabble in the shoes and accessories areas. The throw-away chic retailer does inexpensive aviator sunglasses well, and I adore their collection of patterned sexy stockings (I picked up a marked-down pair for only $5. Seriously, they're painted-on sex for the gams).
Also worth checking out is the stand-alone sales section. I found a few printed long-sleeved thermals for $10 (with a close-fitting, feminine cut). Welcome to the closet, new weapons and essentials!Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Angela P.Aurora, IL118179913Apr 6, 2015
"EVERYTHING I WANT TO NEVER FORGET (& SOME THINGS I DO)"
When I saw this emblazoned in gold foil on aquamarine on the cover of a photo album, I knew I had to have it. I'm not crafty, so I loathe scrapbooking, but I love taking photos and printing out all 300 poses of my dog and vacation on Shutterfly - so I need something to store them in. Every once in awhile I find something really unique at Urban Outfitters.
My rule of thumb when shopping in Chicago is "don't go to retailers if they have a convenient location in the suburbs," because sales tax in Chicago is a whopping 10% compared to the 7-8% in the suburbs. I could save myself a whole DOLLAR! Besides, I love shopping at small, independent boutiques when I can. However...I could not resist Urban Outfitters, and I'm glad I didn't fight it!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Mary M.Cedar Rapids, IA9511524Jul 1, 2018
I love to stop for the selection of gifts and books. Sometimes clothing can be on the pricy side. But we always make sure we stop at a one of your stores when visiting Chicago

I used to come into this store rather frequently, given that I live around the corner and it's a good stop for gifts. But the last few times have been nothing but awful experiences.
A couple of weeks ago I went in looking to buy my niece a birthday gift. A young gentleman approached to ask if I needed assistance, which I was grateful for since frankly I'm clueless as to what's considered "cool" nowadays for a 15 year-old girl. As he helped me look through the home goods section, I noticed one of his fellow associates eyeing during the interaction and occasionally walking by aggressively. At first, I thought that perhaps she was monitoring him to make sure he was providing good customer service. But it soon became evident, from her body language and behavior, it she was actually jealous. Mind you, I am in my mid-30s and have been in this store before, stroller and all!
At some point, she interrupted and asked that the young man leave to tend to a task at the back of the store. She hung around to help me as his replacement, but was mostly outright rude. I quickly tired of the situation, at this point annoyed, I got some items and went to pay. She checked me out while coldly breezing through the transaction. I asked for a gift receipt and she gave a quick nod without saying a word. At the end of the transaction I noticed I didn't get a gift receipt, so I asked if she could please print me one. She paused and stared at me with daggers, it was so blatant I started to feel embarrassed on her behalf. She eventually went back to the register to print the gift receipt I had originally requested. I asked for her name, and though she was very reluctant to say she eventually told me it was Erica, a manager no less! Very unprofessional.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Adrienne G.Chicago, IL10216677Jan 16, 2012
This store has lots of clothes, but don't come here looking for anything to decorate your home with unless it's a coffee table or silly records. They mostly just have men's and women's things. Staff is nice, though! Sale is in the way back also, by the fitting rooms.
Again, only come here for small gifts, clothing, or shoes.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kat S.Chicago, IL644781284Aug 13, 2011Updated review
Black silk short-shorts smothered in intricate patterns of teeny-tiny gold beads?
It's Vargas pin-up girl meets Cleopatra chic! I can't live without them!
Oh, this is dangerous.
So I go in to the sale room in the back, because from time to time you can find quite the deal for an impulse price point. Problem is that sometimes you fall in love with a piece that you didn't even know existed before you browsed the racks... and it is not only not your size... it is a size you couldn't even realistically dream your bum will ever squeeze into!
Okay, I admit I squeezed into the very last pair left in a measly size 2- but it wasn't pretty... precisely like the ubiquitous fat guy on any beach who has defied physics by stretching that thong speedo far beyond any rationality and can somehow still waddle far enough to blind all present and a few beyond immediate vision...
So Noticing my pathetic distress Ariel (looks like Jesus and can perform retail apparel miracles!) kindly took the time to check on where these shorts in a reasonable size 6 may be waiting me. Turns out they reside in... Canada. No joke. So he called the corporate location where a brand new pair was waiting to go home with me and mingle amongst my wardrobe- it was PHENOMENAL- he the precise sale price point, scored free shipping, delivery to my desk at work and the perfect size 6.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Apr 12, 2011Previous reviewI like the cheesy gifties, the costume jewelry and especially the ecclectic books. I love Alexander McQueen (they have a fantastic book on him right up front!)... Old movies... The crackly sound of a vintage record... nice.
I do not like these too long, puritanical maxiskirts. Hate them.
Once upon a time, I was wearing a skirt too short to be called a skirt. Someone called into question my____. The mother of this person gazed at me wistfully and said "I wish I had legs like that, or that I had appreciated what I had back in my day."
I don't like these long skirts that graze my ankles or the floor. No one looks at me with envy, lust or even casual appreciation. I am not wasting the most perfect years my body has to offer swathed to my tootsies. Ew.
The hipsters do not need to dress like homeless Taliban converts... and they won't subject me to it. I have an entire vintage dress collection to back me up. - Justine M.Chicago, IL30512140Sep 26, 2011
I like this urban location. Even though it's small, they always have what I want and I always find something good. They have a separate room for sale and it's always filled with different options.
The staff is helpful and nice. It's convenient for me as wellHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Julie S.Chicago, IL0213Oct 21, 2020
Came in and signed up for their 10% discount club. On your first purchase you get obviously 10% off. I told the cashier that I wanted to use it for the cassette I was buying. We went through the entire process and I put my card in and then saw the price was a little off to me. He told me he forgot to put in the 10%. He apologized, said he fixed it, and it was what it was. I said it was all good, no problem. I just went home and looked at my receipt in my email and he didn't take 10% off...he took 1%. I called the store, and the woman didn't even apologize for the mistake. She said that I can bring my receipt anytime 'I'm in the neighborhood' and they'll fix the price. This place is pretty far from me and I don't have a car. I told her I was pretty upset and she again didn't say any type of apology, only excuses. She sounded annoyed with me! She acted like I made the mistake and that it was just an easy, normal thing for me to make an extra trip for them to make right probably the stupidest transaction mistake I've ever seen. I understand when a mistake is made and I was cool with it, but when you make two mistakes, and then I call and there is annoyance with me, and no apology on their side that's ridiculous. If an apology was made I'd be okay.
