This place was like a warm fuzzy sweater on a cold winter's night. Very clean old house with lots of charm. Creaky floors, which made for some late night noise that could wake up the lighter sleepers (like me). I stayed on the second floor, in the front room with a window facing the street. Bed was very comfortable, small tv and sink in the room. Bathrooms just down the halls, very clean, and never had to wait. The communal kitchen is great, if I had more time I would have made a gourmet meal there. The fridge is stocked with breakfast items (eggs, milk, bread, yogurt) and there's plenty of coffee.
It was rainy, so didn't get a chance to enjoy the rooftop patio, which still had many flowers blooming. The location is superb, just a quick walk from Gastown and tons of restaurants and shops. I parked next door, about $15 for 24 hours.
Can't wait to check it out again! -

Urban Hideaway is the best guesthouse I've ever stayed in. I love everything about it. The lovely patio, the halls, the adorable cats, the cosy kitchen, the Victorian bathroom (which I really didn't want to get out), the bedrooms and even the open space for computers.
My mum and I had travelled across Canada and this was our final destination. We were so fatigue from the traveling and so were looking for a cosy place to put our feet up. We walked around Gastown and head towards the Garden in one day. The location is spot on. Our favorite spot is by far the second hand bookshop down the road. But that is for another review!
We shared a room with two single beds. There is a sink in the room, which makes it very convenient, to wash your face and hands (if someone is using the bathrooms). The kitchen was my favourite spot. It had cookbooks, other books on travels, all sorts of pot and pans, herbs, spices, food and coffee (to cope with jetlags).
Eric and Janine, thank you for making our stay the highlight of my trip. If you are reading this, don't forget how awesome you guys are! -

USAI forget how I first found out about this place, but forever it will remain one of my favorite places to stay in Vancouver when I just want to "get out" and make art for a few days.
Urban Hideaway is a large townhouse in the downtown core, right on Richards near Dunsmuir within walking distance to all sorts of dining, shopping, and (for those into that sort of thing) touristy opportunities. My favorite room is the big one in front with the windows, which costs a little extra but has a lot of cool perks. While many (if not all) of the rooms mandate use of the (clean!) shared bathroom, this particular bedroom has its own sink/mirror area so you can primp and brush your teeth in the comfort and privacy of your own Woody Woodpecker pajama pants, free of potential scorn. The large windows also open up to the park across the street, and make for great local "wildlife" watching on a night in.
Ken and Janine, the house's owners, are super polite and friendly people with a wealth of traveling experience under their own belts, so staying with them is a breeze. They maintain a large DVD library so you have stuff to watch on the nights in, and when I accidentally locked myself out on the balcony while taking a smoke break, Ken didn't laugh at me when I had to call him on my cell phone and ask him very sheepishly to let me in.
Due to the fact it is, y'know, just a really big house with many house-like qualities, I cannot in good faith recommend it for "romantic getaways" or to those who demand the freedom to tromp in loudly at 4 AM. If you're looking for a place to stay downtown that's cheaper than a hotel, you don't mind taking your shoes off when you come in, and you want to interact with the people you're staying with above and beyond the "Cash or credit?" conversation, Urban Hideaway is a great retreat from the noise and the bustle.
