6 reviews for Urban Express
They were the assigned delivery company for the plasma TV I bought from J&R. They were in constant contact over the weekend before delivery, and customer service answered fairly quickly when I called.
Since I had to leave work and commute 30 min home, I was very grateful that they agreed to give me an hour's notice before arriving. (and a slightly narrowed delivery window so I could attend a meeting). They arrived just when they said they would, were polite and professional, and inspected the item before leaving (a J&R policy, I believe)
I would use them again.
EDIT:
What the owner Christine is referring to is that after I complained multiple times about the horrendous service, wrote into their website twice, wrote a yelp review, and spent approximately 200 minutes on the phone, I was finally contacted by management. Indeed -- they called to apologize as the service was so bad. I explained that this was too little too late, and that the process had cost my fiance and myself 2 nights of work, as well as missing an important event. I explained that I no longer wanted to speak to anyone from the company as they had wasted enough of my time. They refunded the money for the assembly. They also sent me a gift certificate to a day spa. That was very nice -- but I would have preferred to pay for a service and had the proper service done on time . And I would have preferred not having to spend 200 minutes on hold or screaming to get an apology. Thanks very much Christine -- but as I told your manager -- it is all too little too late. Your management needs to be involved at the 1st mistake -- not the 3rd. That is a flaw in your business plan that a gift certificate cannot fix. If I had to choose - I'd choose done right and on time.

This company is completely unprofessional and useless. I paid a ridiculous amount of money to have… Read more »
I was expecting a local delivery to be made at 6:00 p.m., and it was delivered at 2:00 a.m.--no, this is not a typo: 2 in the morning.
While it is nice to know that their men work 24-7, I was shocked when the doorman called as I was fast asleep to tell me that there was a delivery!
Oh, and I forgot to tell you about my 2nd experience w/ them recently. When I bought a dresser at Z Gallerie's closing sale, Urban Express was their delivery service. Bad news... Sure enough, one of the five legs had been damaged, and their guys told me to call the corporate office. And the central office keeps on telling me to take it up w/ Z Gallerie, which no lonver exists in NYC. Oy. Like I have time for this...
My opinion of this company has gone up substantially after it fully resolved my problem with the delivery of some furniture. Management responded promptly and professionally, apologized profusely, and gave me a full refund. And the service this time around was prompt and of high quality. The final result was excellent. I would use Urban Express again if I were to order furniture from IKEA in the future,

"Ordering online is easy!" according to http://urbanexpress.com. To that I say, "hmmm, not so much."
I don't have anything against Urban Express. In fact, I think the idea of speedy courier service in Manhattan is just dandy. Once the order is submitted, an Urban Express courier seems to show up mere moments later. I usually select for a bike messenger to come within 90 minutes, and they always come within 30-45 minutes. Nice!
It's just that, no matter how many times I try to set up an order online, I get error messages and have to end up calling their customer service line anyway... kind of defeats the purpose. Once I'm on the phone, the operators are efficient, but almost *too* efficient. I always feel like I'm being rushed and they don't have more than 2 minutes to speak with me. It makes me anxious!
Let's get that website fixed, then everything will be cool beans.
Avoid Urban Express at all costs. Urban Express was in charge of my recent (and ongoing) Ikea delivery, and I have never experienced incompetence on their scale. Urban Express was supposed to deliver a series of appliances, cabinets and countertops to my apartment on March 21. When March 21 came, Urban Express brought the appliances, but not the countertops and cabinets. Further, they made no arrangements to take the fridge to my apartment, despite my noting on the Ikea form that the fridge would likely not fit in my elevator. On March 28, i waited yet again for the Urban Express delivery. This time, they brought the cabinets and countertops, but no fridge. Remarkably, they had the gall to tell Ikea that i REFUSED to allow Urban Express to use my elevator in delivering the fridge the first time (March 21). That's categorically false. I am extremely dismayed with this company's service. I'm also not done yet. Third time, hopefully a charm, is scheduled for April 6. Again, avoid Urban Express at all costs.
