We were a bit hesitant about dining here since, like Oscar, we wanted to take in the Southwest experience.  But we're glad that we did.  The pizza was a nice deep dish filled with a generous helping of toppings.  The large side salad was incredible.  Lots of fresh greens, carrots, baby tomatoes with a tangy fresh balsamic dressing.  I was really pleased with the entire experience.  Its not everyday you get to eat in a pizza joint abutted next to the oldest building in the US.

With limited seating, the friendly counter guy told us to sit in the back.  (We were later informed that the patio seating was reserved for seated guests... but the waitress was nice enough to accommodate us.)

I would definitely recommend this to friends and fellow travelers.

We were so hungry at our recent touristy trip to Santa Fe and we bumped into this place by Chapel San Miguel so we decided to give it a try. We got the New Mexican Pizza, the small one, which was under 15 bucks just for snacks. the pizza was of course, you guessed, spicy, and it somehow lacks in the meat department. the cheese was great, watch out because it is extremely hot. i would say they serve their pizzas not ready to munch on, i would suggest giving it a few minutes to make it "eatable"

3 stars because our pizza took so long and we were the only one there. the place is ala-pueblo style, which is definitely unique and the experience is just ok. i've had better pizzas.

I ended up at Upper Crust the way I suspect most people do: You are near the Plaza. You are starving. You are looking for a somewhat inexpensive meal, or at least inexpensive by Santa Fe standards. You have just survived what feels like the World's Longest Drive across New Mexico and are in need of some serious comfort food. OK, maybe that last one is just me. Pizza sounded so good before the bombardment of green chilies that I knew was to come in the days ahead.

We ordered half pepperoni, half cheese. Kinda boring, but like I said above: comfort food. It took a while to come out but hey, it's pizza. If it's any good, you're usually going to wait. Plus, we were enjoying the evening air on the patio, so we didn't mind. Now, I like a thicker crust on a pizza. And unfortunately, every decent pizza place in my town insists upon offering only the thinnest version of New York-style crust. So when I saw that the Upper Crust pie had a more substantial crust, I was excited. And it was...good. Not the best, but it was refreshing to have a different style of pizza. The large was sufficient enough to feed two very hungry people with enough for leftovers.

Santa Fe has so many excellent dining options that I wouldn't necessarily make a point to seek out Upper Crust. But if you have a pizza craving, it will definitely hit the spot.

I know it's pretty lame to travel all the way out to New Mexico and waste your taste buds on a non-southwestern dish like pizza, but after two days of feasting at every meal on regional cuisine, I was pretty much green chile-ed out and seeking something simple and familiar for dinner.  Plus Upper Crust was almost literally just a few steps from where I was staying.

I ordered the Meat Treat pizza (nice touch that they allow you to add a veggie topping to cut the meatiness a bit).  The crust was thick/puffy around the perimeter -reminded me a bit of pizza I had in Hawaii a few years back but less overwhelming crust-wise.  The cheese was nice and gooey and toppings were substantial.

Certainly not the best meal I enjoyed in NM, but good enough for one lazy, low-maintenance dinner.

I'm a fan. We ordered a vegetarian pizza on a wheat crust and it was delicious. The veggies were fresh, and the sesame seeds added a nice touch. The wheat crust also made me feel slightly guilt-free about eating a pizza.

The employee who served us, Roxanne, was super nice and helpful.

I saw a few hater reviews for this place, and those people maybe don't realize that in Santa Fe - you are going to pay Santa Fe prices. Beer is the same price across town, and so is the food. As for the people who didn't like the pizza - pizza is different in every region - that's part of the fun of traveling.

Did you know that in Puerto Rico, Chinese food comes with french fries? Seriously.

    Excellent Pizza!

We had them deliver and even though we were out of their delivery area, Upper Crust obliged on a pretty snowy day. Yeah!

We ordered 2 pies - Combo and the Meat Treat. The crust and red sauce were just about perfect.

My favorite was the Combo which was sort of an all meat pizza with green chile.

Not sure, I understand some of the negative reviews. They are moronic. So, these brainiac tourists are upset beacuse  they decided on a pizza instead of some authentic local cuisine and it wasn't as good as whatever they get back home. Frickin-genius.

Here is the bottom line, if you are in Santa Fe and you crave pizza, Upper Crust rocks.

If you are pizza snob, not much is going to work for you other than the same local place you go to all the time and rave about. In which case, go home :-)

First, I have to say that I have never been a pizza fan.  However, our son thought Pizza was a major food group, so I've seen a lot of them in my lifetime. When I tasted a real pie from Upper Crust I became a believer.  We eat here often and also have been known to let them deliver when we are feeling like slugs. The front porch is ideal for people watching, and having the oldest church next door sanctifies the whole experience. If you're tired of "red or green" this is the place to visit.

Mmmmm yum yum yum. I came here one night while in town for a good ol' piece of Southwest pie. Yet upon arriving I found myself not very hungry. Hmph. Oh well, good thing they have calzones! Instead of getting a pizza I ordered a mozzarella, onion, green chile, and sausage calzone. Holy heavenly delight! After the first bite I was mesmerized.

Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely be stopping by here again!

Maybe deserved a three star but they forgot our order for 45 minutes...we were sitting at a table directly across from the order window and they could easily see us.  They didn't even check on our pizza after we went to the counter to order our second round of beer.

The crust was the best part...crispy but not burnt or greasy on the bottom, just the right amount of thickness and pillowy soft.  We ordered the whole grain but got the regular crust.  Not  a big deal but would've like to try it.  We ordered a half veggie (for me) / half meat lovers (for my wife).  The meat lovers was good but the veggie was bland.  The problem was too much cheese and not enough sauce.  So the delicate flavors of the veggies were drowned out but the cheap cheese they use.

Now the beer selection was worth very good.  Local brews and decent selection.  Cashier was helpful enough to recommend the excellent Santa Fe Brewery Comp's Hefeweizen.

Maybe the kitchen was having a bad night...and if I lived in town I would try it again, there are plenty of great reviews on here.  But for me I was sadly disappointed.

Yea, it is upper crust.  The attitude... is upper crust.  Like upper lip, and sometimes lots of it.  Upper Crust has employed some redeeming quality-less yuppie pissants over the years, people who have taken great pleasure in snootily scoffing at any customer request that requires some semblance of WORK ETHIC.  Being an occasional repository for pubescent prep school part timers will do that to a place.  Granted, I haven't the slightest idea who's working there today, but it still stings enough to dock otherwise decent pizza a star or two.

Decent is the word for it.  Yes, a green chile, garlic, onion and fresh tomato pizza is both a recipe for offensive breath *and* delicious, but the pizza itself is nowhere near a monument to the art form.  This was one of Santa Fe's best attempts at thick crust long ago, it lumbers along to this day, but now there is better.  The late Tony's Pizza on Cerrillos had my stamp until they closed their doors some 8 or more years ago.  Today there are enough other similarly styled joints to shop around and be satisfied.  Rooftop comes to mind.

Three stars: Two for the business, one because I'm feeling sentimental.

This is how they do pizza in New Mexico.  Apparently.  I wouldn't know that because I didn't have pizza.  We'll get back to that in a bit

Wandering around in the historic part of Santa Fe and looking for a place to eat can be rather daunting.  There are so many places to choose from.  That is not a bad thing.  I've been eating a lot of Mexican type food since I've been here and saw that the sign for this place said they've been there since 1979.  Longevity.  Sign me up.

I decided that pizza wasn't going to cut it.  Looking at the menu I thought that a calzone might cut it.  I had the Whole wheat Calzone. Whole wheat pizza dough wrapped around spinach, tomatoes, three cheeses and pesto sauce.  This was served with a salad (Spicy Thai dressing for me) and a side of potato chips.  All for $8.25 plus tax.  I'm not used to the tax thing.

The calzone was a pretty good size and mighty tasty.  The salad dressing was spicy and the chips were probably Lays.  The place had a hippy vibe.  Very laid back.  Also a bottle of Colorado beer was $5.  $5 for a bottle of beer?  Crazy.

All in all a good place amongst probably many many good restaurants in this part of Santa Fe.  Oh.  One more thing.  Don't order a water here.  It tastes like iodine.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Ambiance was pleasant. The fella who took my order was very friendly. Ordered a New Mexican pizza, the one that comes with red chile sauce and chorizo. It was fulfilling. Reminded me of eating an enchilada. It was the kind of food you'd want to eat on a lazy Sunday afternoon in Santa Fe. My only complaint is what everybody else is complaining about: the price. $14 for a personal pizza is a little steep. Although the crust is nice enough, this isn't fine dining. All in all, I'd come around again, but only on a pay day.

Well... the pizza is good. They have a colorful selection for those who crave meaty goodness or something without meat at all. I chose a chicken pesto pizza with sun dried tomatoes. It was good... but not bursting with flavor like I was hoping.

Large selection of beers (even Shiner!). I sampled a local ale which was nice and crisp.

Overall.... wasn't the amazing pizza place I had remembered from my youth. Funky hippies working there is a plus, though!

Heads up: the large pizza is truly LARGE! We thought we could split the pizza between 2 people, but we barely made a dent in it.

It's a shame though: the pizza is really good. I thought their crust had a good balance between chewiness and crispiness. The sauce was pretty good, although, a little too tart for my taste.

I'm not a pizza expert, but I definitely think this is one of the better pizza places I've eaten at in awhile. Good job Upper Crust!

I like to visit restaurants that inspire me to taste food in different ways. Sometimes a simple ingredient can seem so complex when placed against complimentary ingredients. Upper Crust has a "vegetable" pizza, it is a pretty simple pizza. Mostly standard toppings like; mushroom, bell pepper, onion, black olive, fresh tomato but then they add a little New Mexican flair by adding green chili and sesame seed. The wheat crust was nice too, it added a slightly different texture then the normal crust.

BTW love the hippy, earth mama logo. Awesome.

Decent pizza - good crisp crust... but it ain't no New York coal oven za.  ;)  But, for what it is, delicious.

The main reason we went, however, was because a friend recommended the greek salad.  ??  Ok, whatever, but we ordered one and it arrived -- the guy delivering it to our table just kept staring at it before setting it down.  Finally he said, "I believe this is the prettiest salad I've ever made".  Obviously proud of his work.  I asked if he wanted a picture, and he said "yes, do you have a camera???" and posed with his creation.  Pretty hilarious.  It was a damn good looking salad - artfully arranged and generous on the portions.  Damn tasty too.

Another nice touch was the live music.  There was a guitar player who just started his set as we were leaving, sounded lovely.

I love the idea of tailgating with this pizza and salad at the opera - will try that next time we're in town!

It's hard to give a good rating for service at a place without wait service, but the staff was very friendly and helpful.  The food was good, but not great.  The pizza didn't have much sauce, and the supposed smoked salmon turned out to be grilled.  They had a good selection of local beers and wines.  It's a relatively cheap place to get dinner in Santa Fe.

    Pretty good pizza.
You can get it by the pie or the slice.
They also sell beer - always a good thing.
There's plenty of seating both inside and outside.
We paid $30 for a large supreme-type pizza with 2 beers.
    Would go to again.

N.B. - doesn't look to be related to the Upper Crust in Boston.

At about 1:30 PM I was told delivery would take 45 minutes, and it did.

I'd ordered a large combo pizza with a "wheat" crust, made with a mixture of white and whole wheat flour. The cost was $22 and I tipped the guy $4.

It arrived warm, not hot.The colors of the toppings were reassuringly vivid and the crust was browned to perfection--it was the prettiest delivery pizza I'd seen in a long time.

Crust: Thicker than a New York thin slice, denser than a California or Naples style crust. Good chew. Slightly nutty flavor from the whole wheat, which is probably also the reason for the density, since all-white flour has an airier rise.

    Cheese: Eh.

Toppings: The pepperoni is all right, and the olives are the brined-and-sliced variety, with a lovely curl from a hot oven. The green chiles look terrific but taste like not much.

Sauce: A problem. No detectable tomato taste in a mouthful of this pie, despite a bright red sauce visible everywhere. Undersalted to my taste.

Verdict: A classic American pizza lives and dies on three elements: crust, cheese, sauce. I give the crust a 7 out of 10, the cheese a 4, and the sauce a 3, making this one solidly average pizza.

Odd as it may seem, we do our opera tailgating enjoying a tasty pizza (or two!) from Upper Crust.  Our parking lot neighbors always include some with sterling silver wine chillers and even a candelabra or two, but I'm certain we are enjoying great food right along with them.

This place has everything a pizza place needs: good pizza, cold beer, and not a lot of fuss.

The pizza is serious good eating. The crust is thick with a perfectly crisped bottom. Plenty of toppings; the large size is more than enough for a couple.  We were unable to finish ours and I wish we had a fridge in our hotel room to take the remaining two slices to eat later. Definitely a place to return to on our next visit to Santa Fe.

Nothing fancy here. You order and pay at the counter then find a table and sip you beer until the pie arrives. Plenty of seating when we arrived about 6:30 and still after we left. Outdoor seating is available but is cramped and can be hard to get. The restaurant faces west so the sun tends to shine on about half the tables in the evening. Parking on the rear for those not within walking distance.

We're in Santa Fe for a week on vacation and this looked like a good place for lunch and we were not disappointed. The pizza was delicious especially the crispy wheat crust. My wife is very critical about pizzas that don't have enough sauce. She didn't have anything to complain about, the pizza we ate had plenty of sauce. It was very tasty. I see now what the place is a local favorite.

During our time in Santa Fe, we ate here twice (well, we ate in the restaurant once and the other time we got delivery to our hotel). The first time, when we ate in, we got the lunch special, which is a slice with 1 topping, a side salad, and a drink for less than $5. In Santa Fe, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better deal for lunch. What sets the pizza apart, aside from the price, though is the freshness of ingredients they use. I just love getting a slice of pizza with whole slice of basil baked right in!

Came here late on a Sunday, as many places were closed.  Had pizza and a dinner salad in our party.  The salad didn't look especially outstanding, but was surprisingly tasty.  Their pizza crusts are the way I like them, not too thin, but crispy on the outside and a little bit of softness inside.  Would come again if ever in the pizza mood in Santa Fe, which is probably never going to occur again.

They offer beer on tap which is good. They deliver to a limited area which is good. The employees are pretty hip and cool which is good. They have a centralized downtown location which is good. They have both indoor and outdoor seating which is good. They offer a whole wheat crust, which tastes pretty terrible... But simply enough, ever since Back Road Pizza came to town, I stopped eating pizzas from Upper Crust. The taste difference of every pizza offered alone dropped me from the list of fans of Upper Crust... I feel bad about it, but there's simply a better pizza place in town and Upper Crust has dropped the ball in being relevant to me.
