#1. Excellent food and large portions of it
#2. Friendly atmosphere - clean and safe
#3. Amazingly, everything from fish & chips (when they have it) to the burgers to the sandwiches, is FRESH.
Fair prices, good service. They need to figure out the order taking/kitchen communication process a bit better. Other than that - excellent.
P.S. Fun fact: If they're not too busy and you call ahead, they'll run out to the T-train and hand you a sandwich as the train stops! Make sure you round up (TIP for those clueless people); making change on the run's no fun.
"Good deil in the bayview"Tri tip on sourdough roll is delicious, also griled turkey/roastbeef combination with Swiss cheese on soft roll,is slap yo mama in the face good.Fresh cut steak fries are a must here! (Seasoned perfectly). They have a large menu, but I'm a sucker for hot or grilled sandwich's.Call order's in (Order's take about 20 mins around lunch hour).
Stopped in here for lunch the other day. Had a very good, reasonably priced, falafel wrap. Other choices looked good too. Service was very friendly, place very clean, no complaints. Nothing exceptional, but I'll be back. A nice local business worth supporting
Love the place, its always reliable great big sandwiches at prices rarely seen anymore in SF are delicious, the people are always friendly and I have never been let down.
Thanks for the great eats!
I've been meaning to review this place for a while.
Upper Crust is a laid-back, no frills sandwich place where you can pick up a couple hot links and banana pudding quickly. The fries (which I really like.. & i'm a crispy fry fan) can only be described as hearty and creamy. Try the 49er burger.. you'll be hooked.
Blunt wraps are at the counter.
I am happy to find yet another yummy place to eat near my job. YaY!
I went in to Upper Crust for lunch today. Very clean, super simple inside.
Slightly chaotic--there was a communication breakdown between the woman at the cash register and the people actually making the food, so people's orders weren't coming out correctly. My order was rung up incorrectly a few times before being done correctly.
I ended up just taking a sandwich that had been made but not ordered as opposed to what I ordered, just for the sake of time. I ended up getting a "Bayview". I only was able to eat half of it--not because it was bad, quite the contrary, it was delicious.
Rather, I had to save half of it because it was huge.
It seems like it can get super crazy busy there at lunch, which derails the order train a bit-the phone was ringing, the line was getting longer, orders were getting mixed up. Nothing catastrophic, but things did get a bit nutty.
The food, however, it YUMMY!
My favorite corner store sandwich shop in Bayview is now carrying fresh produce. How excellent is that?

So, I was around the way way and I said "me so hungry!"
I wanted a samich and I dragged my GodDaddy up the street to Golden Eagle, and - it was gone.
Apparently, the phoenix has risen, this time in the form of Upper Crust! Since my sammy dreams were still alive, I decided to give it a go.
First - shout out to RAY. I think it was Ray.......he was at the counter and seems like a good person deserving of a good Yelp.
Anyway, the interior is clean and has a classic deli vibe. Drink cases stocked, good chip variety, menu board on the back wall, visually everything was winning.
But taste - the last frontier - the real challenge!
I ordered the Caesar Pastrami. So, the caesar pastrami is basically is like a hot pastrami except it features a garlic spread. Interesting right?
To me, it tasted like the best hot pastrami ever on buttery garrrrrrrrlic bread. The sandwich is a-a-awesome! Believe!
The meat was not skimpy, the bread was not stale. The service was good, nobody rolled their eyes at my "can i have", "can you put"...
I'm indecisive and annoying when it comes to making a decision, but after that one sandwich, I know that I can order anything here and it will be worth it.
My BF's workshop is around here. I know, I know, not the best neighborhood in the world. Prolly wouldn't want to drive around here in a top down convertible Mercedes SLR, bumpin' my Paris Hilton Sing-a-Long. Which is why I don't do any of that.
I take the train. The T line is just fine.
This is place is so clean. Sparse almost but since cleanliness is next to godliness, I'm all for really really clean.
We ordered two Philly Cheesesteaks. They turned out to the be the size of my calves and it was so good. Imagine, driving along the California prairie (i.e. on the way to Bakersfield), towing a 2K lb trailer full of moto GP gear head stuff, little pot-bellied me rubbing the satisfaction in my stomach after downing half of the sandwich.
Those were the days. Now I'm on a stupid diet where I have to say no to anything that tastes too creamy to be true.
What can I say? I'm concerned about my cholesterol.
But I remember the good old days when this place grilled up some lip-smacking hot sandwiches and fantastic french fries.
Upper Crust is one of my favorite places anywhere. Big good eats at a very fair price. It's around the corner from where I live, so I go often. I'm involved in the Quesada Gardens Initiative, and we send big groups to Upper Crust from time to time. I've never been disappointed. It's one of those places that, when I take friends from outside the neighborhood, makes people say "Hey, this is a pretty nice neighborhood..." as though I didn't know :) Upper Crust has added healthier food options a couple of times, and they've supported our community projects whenever they could. Check it out!
So Saturday morning I was on my way to a friends house to walk her dogs while she was out of town. To get to my home girls house I have to cross through the hood; not the rap hood the Hood Hood. Single moms bust they ass to keep food on the table hood, bad ass kids running around causing mayhem hood and dude wearing thier pants around thier knees hood.
But let me tell you about this philly cheese I had at the Upper Crust in the hood. Now I been to Philly and had a real Philly Cheese and think Upper Crust is on point with thier version of the Philly Classic. I almost past on but DJ Khaled little brother recommend the Philly Cheese so I had and I liked it. Ok that not DJ Khaled litte brother but I can't remember his name.
I'm going to go back and try a few other things on the menu like the Turkey Burger. I also like that I can call my order in pick it up and I think the fries are fresh cut .
I think I might slide a little cheap date threw this spot in the Upper Crust of the hood.
Let's start this off by saying I am a deli snob. I grew up in a family who owned/ran a traditional Italian deli and I expect a lot so needless to say I am often disappointed. However I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into Upper Crust Deli. The place was nice, clean and had a lot of customers. They have a good menu both hot and cold items but don't ask for a to-go menu b/c they don't have one, I asked. I wanted to be able to call in my order which they must do b/c the kid at the front counter is always on the phone (cell and business line). Those would be the only down sides. They carry nice quality deli meats and roast their own turkey. I had one the other day and it was great. The sandwiches are big too! I haven't finished one yet. In an area with minimal quality places to eat, this place is a score.
Upper Crust is one of the latest additions to the newly reinvigorating Bayview neighborhood. The Gheith family runs it, and they are friendly and accommodating. The food is decent--plenty of sandwich selections, including vegetarian options. And they serve up generous portions of French fries, both steak and curly varieties. The prices are very reasonable too.
The decor isn't the greatest---fluorescent lighting and basic cafeteria furniture---but hopefully that will improve as the store gets more established.
I'm new to the Bayview and looking for awesome spots to eat. Not feeling like spending tons on Soul Food or BBQ my BF and I ventured off on our bikes to Upper Crust. With no where to lock our bikes up (what's up with that B-View???), we just leaned them on the atm machine inside and the employees didn't even blink. The service was good, super mom and pop vibe. I orderd the Cesar Pastrami (I guess I was trying to be adventerous?) and my BF got the Turkey/Bacon sandwich. He snorted his which means he liked it, although he isn't a foodie like myself. I on the other hand thought it was super sloppy. I really liked the sourdough roll and the pastrami tasted good but they over did it on the jalenpenos and the garlic spread. I probably killed six trees wiping myself down. So overall I thought it was just ok. The random weirdos walking in every few minutes didn't really help either. I'll give it another try cause I'm all about supporting local businesses but I'm not getting my hopes up.
This Place is Great! I love the Hamburgers they use really good buns. Potato if I remember correctly. The fries are fresh cut and delicious.
They also have fried chicken, but it's like on a secret hidden menu, also they almost always run out of it or have a very limited piece choice. So that's why I can't give this place 5 stars.
The service is Great too. A very nice addition to the hood!
I don't know if this place is a blessing or a curse! I love their food! I can't say how nice it is to have a place to walk to and grab a bite to eat. I loved Golden Eagle but it lacked the "Welcome, Have a seat and get a bite to eat!" feel. Upper Crust to making a head way in creating that feeling. The menu is pretty standard for most urban delis, I'd like to see them serve some salads and not pre-made....fresh!. We need more than fried foods. I've tried about four items on the menu which was stellar. Ingredients fresh and plentiful. I must stay it's the French Fries which keeps me in there at least once a week. The place is clean and orderly. Ray, the owner is cool and great on customer service. Nothing better to feel like your dollar is appreciated. I must say there is something amiss with the deli...There's an empty feel there and I haven't put my finger on it on what they could do to make it look better. Maybe playing some music for those dining. Not KMEL but something like KKSF. Something everybody could stand. Just some kind of background music. I welcome them to the neighborhood and I hope they continue to serve quality food, good customer service, improve on the menu and don't let the place get unkempt.
great sandwiches! great service very friendly and fast. the turkey one with the bacon is my favorite. had a bunch of other ones and they have never let me down. it's a nice change of pace if you do alot of eating on 3rd.
We brought a HUGE group here and they were quite speedy considering the size of our group. We came with voracious appetites and the food filled us up! The portions are HUGE-I couldn't even finish half of my half! They are very generous with their meats and fillings. Many people took home leftovers. The sides are substantial too. Inside it's clean, bright and there's rows and rows of drinks organized neatly in the back of the place, and racks of chips to the side. The prices are SUPER reasonable for what you get and the menu of sandwiches is VERY extensive-I was trying to decide for a while what to get and finally narrowed it down to about five different sandwiches to pick from. When you're eating with a big group, not everyone's going to be happy with their food-with these sandwiches, everyone left happy and satisfied with full bellies. I'm really surprised more folks haven't yelped this place-it certainly is a gem in the neighborhood.
