Yes this is a dive bar
Yes it's full of locals
Yes they have a fun karoke bar.
The bar tenders are friendly and promp with service of drinks.
On tap they got pyramid, mac and jack, manny's, and the regular macro brews.
So... if you want a place to just relax with friends w/o drive too far with in UP... I'd say yeah... it's a good time.
Dive bar, yeah, but for my money, it's the best damned dive bar in the South Puget Sound, and I've been to plenty, trust me!
We have yet to go there and not have a good time. Great people watching. You can always count on some drunk completely abandoning all social inhibitions, which is pretty entertaining.

If you're into country Karaoke, this is definitely not your scene.
He's got good taste and makes sure it's pretty much good old rock 'n roll 99% of the time.
Anybody who thinks the Karaoke is ridiculous, obviously hasn't been there in awhile or can't carry a tune in a bucket.
Every time we go to UP Station (which is frequently) there are smoking hot women (especially on Thursday nights, which is Ladies Night) And good food too, and cheap (before 10 pm, which is when they revert to deep fried bar food, which is, well, deep fried bar food.) Wednesday is $8.99 steak night, and that's for the whole meal, with a baked potato, salad, veggies and garlic bread. I recommend the Flat Iron Steak, with grilled onions and blue cheese. They make amazing Nachos too.

The UP Station is a dive. Straight up. People that go to the UP Station (if they're not there for the hilarity/irony of it) go there everyday, probably have for 20 years and will probably continue to go there for another twenty.
There is ridiculous karaoke and, because it's the UP Station in Tacoma, you don't have to wait forever to get called up.

Weirdly enough I have been there on a few different occasions with different people. Not a bad time, there's one of those entertaining condom machines in the bathroom that I wished worked, horrible Karaoke, and smallness. I guess in good company, you can't have a bad time.
