I took two online courses at UMUC so I could expedite my college experience. Customer service was pretty terrible. Once I was enrolled I had trouble getting answers about transfering courses. After I stopped taking courses through the college- they wouldn't stop calling me to re-enroll. It's been over a year and I still get calls. Another thing that irritated me was when I enrolled I specifically asked a counselor if courses were 100 percent online- he said yes. I found out after it was too late to drop I needed to find a proctor to administer my exams and pay the proctors fee.
I took two courses at UMUC- One was good, the professor was hands on and added a lot to our discussions. The other wasn't so good. He posted material and dissapeared. Also, their leaning system isn't as good as some of the others out there. There were a number of bugs and was difficult to follow discussions (in my humble opinion blackboard is superior to any other online classroom platform).
I can say their tuition was pretty reasonable, and I didn't need books for some of my courses.
My experience was so-so.
I have to admit I'm a huge fan of UMUC - I take the on line courses and have found all but one professor really engaged and dedicated to the success of the students. Where the univ. loses a star is with the on line book store - I have been able to find the same books significantly cheaper elsewhere.
