This peaceful oasis is a quick drive from busy Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Whether you're looking for a spot to relax with a good book and sunbathe, or a great fishing hole for cheap, University Lake is a super, local option.
The lake's actual grassy space is limited, but it stays pretty empty, making it easy to find a secluded spot. The strength of this park is in its on-the-water fun.
There is more than sufficient supply of john-boats and canoes for an afternoon of fun or fishing on the water. There is a small fee associated with boat rentals, but it's insignificant.
Once you're on the water you'll enjoy a great fish supply, and a lake large enough to find your own nook, but small enough to make every end accessible.
Best of all, the entire lake is surrounded by trees making this nearby getaway feel miles away from the daily grind.
