For our trip to Seattle, Rei S. recommended that we stay at the University Inn. And after experiencing firsthand the great prices, great service and amenities, and very convenient location, we would recommend it to anyone visiting Seattle!

The front desk was very helpful and knowledgeable about area. They went above and beyond to assist us with finding bus stops, breaking $20s for bus fare, and even giving us a complimentary wine opener. Not to mention the free pineapple cupcakes in the lobby and complimentary bottled water in our room. We stayed in the deluxe room which, aside from the king sized bed, includes a flat screen TV, a cute table and chairs set, a mirrored vanity, a comfy chair and ottoman, a microwave, a mini fridge, a Keurig coffeemaker, dual sink bathroom, and soap / shampoo / conditioner / body wash / lotion dispensers. Awesome! :) Just across the street was a King County Metro stop to take the 71/72/73 downtown.

We got scored a "stay 2 nights get third night free" deal, so it came out to under $100 per night. Perfect for the kind of traveling we wanted (low travel budget, more to spend on food and good eats!). Also, it's literally next door to Portage Bay Cafe for brunch.

This might be a "three star hotel" in terms of hotel ratings, but for hotels within this category, it gets 5+ stars for the following reasons:

    1. It's very clean!
    2. The beds are super comfortable.
    3. Every room comes with a Keurig and the individual K-cups for Tully's coffee (regular and decaf) and earl gray tea.
    4. They have free parking.
    5. Continental breakfast included (bagels, English muffins, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, cereal, Starbucks coffee, orange juice, apple juice, Tazo teas).
    6. They have the best tropical Tommy Bahamas shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and lotion.
    7. They have a heated outdoor pool.
    8. It's conveniently a few blocks from University Ave. and right off the 5.
    9. The people working there are professional, helpful, and nice - I think many are local students.
    10. Every room has a safe.
    11. Every room has a microwave and mini fridge.
    12. Free shuttle to downtown attractions, U-district shopping, hospitals, and University of WA campus (7:00am - 9:30pm June through September, 7:00am - 7:30pm October through May).
    13. I really like the colors of the exterior and lobby - modern retro feel.
    14. And bonus, if you get the largest suite they have, they have a bowl full of the best candies (e.g. nerds, sour punch straws, mini gobstoppers, etc.).

I've done my fair-share of traveling and have stayed in every possible type of hotel and motel - from the pits to ridiculous hotels that run around $1000/night, and I can honestly say that I've simply and thoroughly enjoyed each time I've stayed at the University Inn. It's quickly becoming a home away from home, and I choose to stay here over other hotels downtown when I travel to Seattle.

The only thing missing - those waffles everyone keeps talking about... where did they go?

Uni Inn was exactly what I needed. I came here quickly and without a reservation when I needed a place to stay between apartments. I had called around and found they had the cheapest rate in town for the night. I wasn't sure what to expect, paying $25 less than anywhere else but the room was actually quite spacious and nice. It's right next to a great brunch place and my favorite Pho restaurant is about 4 blocks away. The people working here have been extremely friendly at every interaction.

If you're visiting UW, this is the best choice if you want anything cheaper than Hotel Deco.

    Here we go...

Not only does this hotel deliver on all the promises it makes online... It surpasses them.

-FREE guest laundry (sure, there's only one washer/dryer... But it's free)
-Beds are comfy, pillows are SUPER plush, TOWELS ARE DEVINE! The towels, OMG the towels. I almost asked if I could buy a set... My husband stopped me.
-Heated OUTdoor pool. I HATE indoor pools, they always seem to smell like mildew. It is Seattle though so it does rain in July. Just be warned.
-Staff... Everyone was so accommodating from the front desk to housekeeping to the  shuttle drivers. They even provided us with a roll-away bed FREE.

Sure... Breakfast is standard garb, and the rooms aren't the biggest... But who cares? You spend so much time eating out and exploring the city you barely notice.

I definitely recommend this hotel :)

This place definately deserves a five stars !

The staff is very friendly , and don't rush only to give you the wrong key or something stupid . They will answer any questions , and if they can't they will figure it out . My dad was talking about where golf courses were (of course) and as soon as they heard they told him all about the courses in our area .

They have a pool ! It is normally heated to 80 degrees and outdoor . I beliave they also have a workout room . Not to mention the complementary breakfast ( =D ) including waffles , eggs , muffins , cherries and whipped cream for the waffle , hot cocoa , the list goes on .

The rooms are very sanitary and comfortable . They come with AC , a TV , a fridge , and a microwave . They also have safes and a closet . Very roomy if you don't stuff a roll in bed and air matress in like we did .

Did I mention ? They offer complementary toilet supplies , pillows , towels , blankets , roll in beds , and other stuffy stuff , should you forget it .

Quick Tip : There's a shuttle outside that goes to the hospital , Space Needle , and Pike's Place .

This place is really great . I can (almost) guarantee you'll love it here =)

Call me crazy but I have a really hard time rating hotels on Yelp beyond what their hotel rating happens to be. The University Inn is definitely a three star hotel, as would be confirmed by nearly any hotel website. It's located in the south end of the U District and is only about two blocks away from what is technically the beginning of the UW campus territory (as shown by Google Maps, at least).

The hotel is pretty decent, especially if your stay will be primarily based in the University District. If you're coming to check out the school, I can't see a better priced place to set up a base camp than here. That all said, a weekend rate we recently received was $128 a night. None of us went on Priceline to see what it could have been so we'll take it. Still, though. Staying at the University Inn affords you the ability to walk pretty much anywhere in the University District area with relative ease. Thai Tom is up the way. A ton of bars are on The Ave. The school is right there...etc....etc...

As for amenities, they've got decent sized rooms, relatively small bathrooms, some with funky layouts and really comfortable beds. There's a pool just behind the front desk that was closed for the duration of our stay but was visibly very clean and tempting. One of the best aspects was that parking is free so long as you display the yellow piece of paper given to you at a check in. Further amenities include a free breakfast in the mornings and later on a snack bar with cheese and crackers...etc.

It wouldn't be my first choice to stay in the University District on another trip to Seattle but I would still recommend the University Inn for anyone who need a place in that area. The hotel was pretty solid for the price, far enough off the beaten path to avoid any kind of vandalism to the vehicle and quiet enough to get a good nights sleep but still close enough to all the action the University District has to offer.

This place was so much better than I expected.  It was very clean, and people working there were nice.

I took Shuttle Express ($19/person) from the airport to the hotel, and it took more than 1 hour to get there.  On the way back, I used a towncar service the hotel recommended ($45/car) and it was about 30 minutes ride.

The hotel is not in the center of the city, but it offers you a complimentary shuttle every hour to downtown Seattle.   Their complimentary Breakfast is decent, and you can get complimentary tea and coffee service  24/7.

If you are looking for a not-so luxurious but decent hotel, I highly recommend this one.

I stayed here 12/3-12/6 2008 and had the best experience! They upgraded us to the Deluxe Room for free and when we got to the room, we saw that they had put a gift bag in it for us filled with goodies.
The staff was amazing and they not only had a free breakfast, but they also had free evening snacks from 4pm-5pm!
They have a free shuttle that will take you to multiple areas too!

The room was clean, the beds were the most comfortable that I had ever had in a hotel and they had free wireless Internet.

    Very pleased :)

When my friend who has a dog always visits me. This is one of the only hotels that accept pets. It is centrally located and offers a lot of amenities.
Free parking, Breakfast, and Wireless are all pluses.   Seasonal outdoor pool, access to exercise room, and free laundry. With a nightly rate of $125 she was happy.

Portage Bay around the corner is a cornerstone for Breakfast or Lunch.
Or we go to Ivars for late night happy hour.  Bars are 2 blocks away on the Ave.  Eastlake Bar and Grill is across the bridge. Or if you need to go to the Medical Center it is right across the street.  UW is 3 blocks away.

Complimentary Shuttle Service. Stay with them at the University Inn and enjoy complimentary shuttle service to local attractions, area hospitals, and wonderful shopping. Stay with them, and explore the city of Seattle in style and comfort. Leave the driving to University Inn .  The complimentary shuttle service is provided to predetermined drop-off and pick-up points within a five mile radius.

If you have pets when you travel. And you want a budget friendly hotel.
This is where you and your furry friend should stay.

I stayed here one night and only found out about it because I needed to be in this immediate area for work.

It's not in the best part of town - we drove through some shady areas to get here, and the exterior ain't so pretty, but the lobby was quaint and cute.  The place has obviously been remodeled (which didn't include the hallways) because room was surprisingly nice.

They have free breakfast in the morning as well as a late afternoon snack.  They also have a complimentary shuttle that goes to multiple hot spots (downtown, university district, space needle/seattle center, zoo, U of washington campus or hospitals, etc).

Pretty sweet, esp if you get the UW rate.

This was one of the few hotels that had a room available during my visit, so I thought something was wrong with it. Actually it was perfect. If you are on a budget, this is a great place to stay.

We had a room with double beds that overlooked the street. It's small and the bathroom is definitely small, but the room is clean with standard hotel furniture. There is free parking, a pool, and it has a computer with internet in the lobby that is available to all guests. They also serve a free continental breakfast with waffles, and there are snacks in the afternoon. It is served in the lobby, and depending on how full they are you may not be able to find a table to eat at.

The Inn is in the University of Washington  neigborhood, and there are a lot of places to eat and shop in the district. It is also very close to Lake Union, about 5 minutes, and less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Seattle. The area is pretty peaceful, and I liked that it wasn't in such a touristy area of Seattle. The staff is also helpful and can arange for a shuttle to take you to certain places in the city free of charge.

We go to Seattle to listen to jazz a few times a year. We are always looking for some cool hotel to stay at. We have stayed here twice. The area is easy to get to though a little bit away from our jazz venue.  The rooms are clean, and the price is very reasonable including the breakfast. Also, the free parking is really important too and they get another star for that. I have no complaints. We ask for a quiet room and we get. They also have a pool which is a nice extra.

I found the University Inn by sheer luck. I was traveling to Seattle to see the University of Washington and needed a cheap place to stay. My room was 135 dollars a night. It has one queen bed, a fold way bed/couch combo, desk, table/chairs, fridge and microwave. The place is spotless and the employees are wonderful. Also if you get the premier room, they will serve you breakfast in bed. Though tempting I would highly recommend The Portage Bay Cafe for all your breakfast needs since its almost attached to the hotel.

This place was great!!  Found it while searching through yelp, and they even offered a 20% off Yelp discount!  Clean rooms, helpful staff, and they offer a complimentary breakfast (more than just cereal and muffins) and an afternoon snack which was way more than I'm used to.  They also allow pets (for an additional $20/night).  We had a great weekend there with our little Boston Terrier.  Would definitely stay there again when we come back to Seattle!

    pros:
    -allows pets
-location/proximity to university district and environs
    -moderately priced

    cons:
-nowhere to take your pet nearby to do their business (the place they instruct you to go is not close by, next to a very busy street and in a sketchy neighborhood...unsafe, inconvenient and inexcusable for a place that is supposed to be "pet friendly"),
-the pet-friendly room i stayed in was directly above the trash dumpster outside, so nearly every morning i was awoken to the god-awful sound of a trash truck lifting a heavy dumpster and emptying its content into the truck...and i won't begin to mention the smell.

for a place that is a sister hotel to the nearby watertown (which is a stellar hotel), i expected better. it's too bad the watertown doesn't allow pets, because i would stay there in a heartbeat. instead, i now stay at the larkspur hotel in bellevue...yes, further out, but *much* better accommodations for me and my pets.
