Omg. Words cannot even describe how amazing this place is. Not only is Dell the most amazing, sweetest stylist in the world, but im writing from under a blowdryer right now, at 8:45 pm. Dell, and the salon, got me AND my sister in for an appointment at 7 pm the week before christmas. They CLOSE at 7. I love this place, they are so accomodating and Dell is a top notch stylist who is so good at what she does. The first time I came in i told her what i wanted, and she listened closely. My hair turned out exactly how i envisioned it. Needless to say, im a repeat customer. I love Dell!!!! I love Unity!! :)
*edit: this has been sitting in my account as a draft for Weeks.. Oops! -

This is a review about Penny as she is the one who butchered my hair.
I had come to this salon after reading all the great reviews on Yelp and I desperately need to fix my hair since a different salon had given me way to many layers when I had asked for just an inch or two of layers.
I showed Penny a picture of exactly what I wanted (which was a short hair cut) and what she did was nowhere near it. When she asked me how I thought, I calmly told her that I didn't like it and pointed out that it wasn't what I had asked for. Her response? "Maybe you have issues with people who cut your hair." REALLY?! Maybe you should just give me the hair cut I asked for. On top of that, it was $65!!!
My sister had her hair cut with her too. She only wanted a trim of an inch or two. That's it. and it was also $65!!! -
Review from Sunny W.
My review is a continuation of my sister's:
http://www.yelp.com/us...
We came to this location together because, like my sister said, of the great reviews on Yelp and it is really unfortunate we didn't have a great experience.
My sister left a few things out during our visit at Unity Salon. In addition to Penny's comment about maybe my sister having an issue of people cutting her hair, she responded to my request to curl my sister's hair to see what it would like styled after the cut, "I don't curl hair." Wait. What do you mean you do not curl hair? Even though we didn't have a great (let alone a good) experience, we each still tipped 15-20%
My hair cut was difficult to butcher and was fine (though not worth $65 excluding tip). Regardless, the horrible experience for my sister has turned me off of this place forever.
Listen, if your potential clients specifically asks for someone who is comfortable cutting short hair, please do so. -

As far as a haircut goes, I am eternally hopeful for long flowing locks one day, down to my knees and ALISON at Unity caters to my requests. She LISTENS (a rarity with some stylists) but also makes suggestions to best suit my face and personal style. She also doesn't chop off all of my hair when I'm only looking for a trim, just enough for healthy ends but also to maintain my length.
My hair is straight and fine but she manages to always make it super healthy and voluminous with her magic touch. Speaking of magic touch, Alison will give you a to-die-for scalp massage when you get shampooed. Ohhh it's so good.
Not only does Alison provide unbeatable service, but she has always been consistently on time, caring, and accommodating. She is also one of the funniest and easiest people to carry on a conversation with.
Go see her today!!!
***
I wanted to do an update since I went back to Unity recently to see Alison because I wanted some color to brighten my hair up, but didn't want to suffer any damage. Alison gave me a color glaze that made my hair shiny and even more manageable. She gave me some scientific low-down on how this color works to make my hair so silky but of course, I don't remember all of that! I just know it worked!
Also, I recently referred a friend of mine to Alison and since she mentioned reading about her on Yelp! she received a 20% discount on her first visit. This goes for all of you first-timers out there. -

I had the pleasure of having Denise do my hair and makeup for my wedding. What a great job she did!!!! Exactly as I wanted my hair and makeup! Natural looking with a bridal flare! My photos looked amazing in outdoor and indoor lighting! And I owe it all to Denise, hair and makeup genius! Checkout the photos and see for yourself:
http://www.yelp.com/re...
And my hair didn't feel like a solid mass of hairspray the next day. Actually I woke up and took out the bobby pins and the curls stayed beautifully for the next days activities.
Denise is always fun to work with and a joy to be around! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her!
She also put in a handmade feather extension for my daughter that she absolutely loved!
Highly,Highly recommend Denise for any of your hair/makeup needs! -

I've been going to Heather for awhile now and wouldn't want to replace her for the world! She is very thoughtful, always pleasant and generally a caring person who wants to make sure her clients leave happy. I'm always rest assured that I'm in good hands whenever I see her and I always look forward to our fun talks! It's rare I find someone I go to for my hair who also becomes a friend.

Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat from the scariest nightmare ever, no not giant brussel sprouts or people eating washing machines..WORSE! Carmen moved and i'm left hairstylistless.
Maybe you think i'm exaggerating, OR maybe you know Carmen Costescu and can totally sympathize.
Carmen is ah-mazing!!
Carmen's the only person that's touched my hair in about 5 years, unless its someone gently stroking my silky hair while wishing it was their own. i keep my eye (just one) on them though cuz i can't have my hair ending up in someone's weave. Color is this woman's bff. She's made my super dark hair a really nice non-yellow non-chola blonde, copper, red, plum, pink and everything in between. Last two times I got a brazilian blowout and i think it's time for another.
Besides having hair skillz Carmen is an amazingly sweet/funny/nice girl and i LOVE seeing her whenever i get the chance. Skills and personality is like the super best, for reallyz not for fakeyz.
If for some reason Carmen really did move to somewhere i couldn't stalk her I would probably just let my hair grow forever like those one ladies you see with the really long hair and you're like 'ew omg what does your shower look like after you bathe?!'
yeah. that'd be me. -

I've been getting my hair cut by Heather for about 2 years now. I think she is great and I would totally recommend her to anyone. Unity Salon is a little pricier than some of the other salons I have been to, but overall its a nice salon with a nice atmosphere and sometimes you get what you pay for.

Review from Cora E.
Costa Mesa, CA
Considering I have unruly halfrican hair, it's always been quite difficult for me to find a good hairstylist who doesn't either try to talk me into an expensive weave, or absolutely annihilate my hair with poor relaxing jobs. My husband has been going to Crystal exclusively for years, and Crystal recommended that I see Jennifer about taming my crazy mane. That speaks a lot of this place right there. She didn't just try to take me on for herself. She recommended the stylist she thought would best be able to deal with my hair.
I've been going to Jennifer for about two years now and she's awesome. I used to just have her relax my hair, but after she recommended the movie Good Hair to me, I dropped the relaxer for good. Now she works with my natural hair, and I have NEVER gotten so many compliments as I have since she started working with it. She's also super sweet and flexible. My hair takes forever, so she usually ends up having to multi-task if she wasn't allotted enough time to deal with it. Still, I'm never left just sitting in the chair waiting for her. Maybe it's because she's a mom, but she can definitely focus on more than one thing at a time with no problem. -

Great salon in downtown Fullerton. Penny has been my stylist for nearly 5 years, and when you are as old as I am, you need all the help a professional like her can provide.
Valet park in the Villa del Sol lot and just let them know you are going to Unity. It's free!
Go on Thursdays during the summer, and wander across the street to the farmers market.

I went to this salon because of it's rave reviews from other members and let me tell ya, it did not disappoint!
I requested Heather, also from what others have said about her, and she was phenomenal! I chose a hair color that was a bit difficult to do, too much red, it would look orange, too much yellow it would look blond, I wanted neither, and it came out PERFECT! I love love love my new hair color and cut. I would definitely recommend requesting Heather.
Natural Hair Color: Dark Brown
Dyed Hair Color: Strawberry Blond(ish)
Hair Cut/Sytle before: All natural, not dyed "virgin hair"
Hair Cut After: Layered with Bangs

Fullerton, CA
The continuous bright side about unity is that you're always able to call them up and get an appointment the week that you want it. Or, if you want it, depending if your hair stylist is in that day, that day or the next.
I first walked in, January 2009, unsure of what to do with my hair. It was getting skraggly, that's all I knew, but I knew nothing about the stylists here nor the location. (It's right on the corner of Harbor & Wilshire.) At the time, there were less than 10 reviews for this establishment, each and every glowing with compliments to this salon. It's so close to me! I had to try it.
The first person who walked in to take me was Heather. A woman whose fire lights up so bright; you can instantly tell what kind of person she is when she starts up the conversation and keeps it continuing. She's always smiling whenever I walk in and I've never seen her bad side, which speaks more for other establishments and their stylists.
She changed my blah-shoulder length hair into a short a-line sort of bob/cut that had compliments throwing at me at every corner. Yeah, I like compliments!
Coming down to Unity Salon is my one serious splurge when it comes to me. A cut/trim hits me at $60, but I honestly think that Heather and her magic scissor-wielding fingers are worth every penny. -

Wonderful salon. I got my hair cut today by Heather and she was the sweetest and chillest girl ever. She reminded me of Meiko (the singer/songwriter).
Anyway. I asked for a trim and she was able to add layers and discuss how to style my super straight hair. I asked her to style my hair with some simple braids and she was great at it!
A bit on the pricey side and small salon in the trendy part of Downtown Fullerton. It was a positive experience. -

When I can't see Audrey for a haircut at Dylux, I make an appointment with Crystal at Unity. She is so awesome.
The salon is in the Old Town section of Fullerton. The stylist look really hip, and the place has a very New York loft look to it. They take walk-ins, but appointments are highly suggested, especially for Crystal since I have noticed lately she has been very busy.
Crystal has been cutting my hair for over two years now, on and off. She is very sweet and has a great sense of style. There were a few times when I have asked her to experiment with my hair, and each time my hair looked fabulous. One of those cuts made my honey drop to his knees. Seriously. She is also excellent at taming my wild, curly hair. She has lessened the pouf and she takes the time to flatten it out when needed. Crystal will also offer refreshments for you to sip on and there are a ton of current magazines available for your reading pleasure.
I usually come here for a deep condition, then a cut and style. This combo runs around $70 I believe. Yes, it is a bit pricey, which is why I only make a visit a few times a year.
So the next time you want to look fierce for that new job, or make your man drop to his knees, make an appt. with Crystal. She'll take care of you. -

I went here to try a new salon and a new stylist. I don't remember her name but she was sweet and... mute. She didn't talk the whole time which makes me feel very awkward. My hair came out good. A little darker blonde than I usually perfer but not bad at all. Everyone else seemed to be BFF with their stylist and I felt left out because my girl didn't like me.
It was expensive. The hunt for the perfect stylist continues. I will take any recommendations you blonde yelpers can offer! -

Came here to get some highlights. I got the 20% discount that was offered through Yelp.
I called to set up my appointment and was set up with Heather (i think? it's kinda been awhile now, but I'm pretty sure that was her). The lady that answered the phone was really nice and helpful. Gave me a couple of options of times, I chose, and hung up. Me, being the indecisive girl I am, quickly changed my mind, and had to call back and change the time, but she was very nice and accommodating to my inability to make a decision.
When I arrived for my appointment, I was quickly given an apron, seated, and offered a water bottle or coffee as well as a magazine. So far, so good. The overall experience was good. Heather made small chit chat here and there. My only slight complaint is that she kinda just left me in the dryer until it turned off. I had to get up from it to find her and let her know that it had already turned off.
My highlights came out nicely. At first I felt like they were slightly too blonde, but I've gotten compliments all around. I might have just not been used to having anything but dark hair. With the discount it came out to $68. That's a pretty decent price for medium hair length highlights.
The atmosphere of the salon is pretty chill. It was a warm day and they had their backdoors open. The backside seemed to lead to some kind of garden like area, and it let in a nice breeze.
All in all a positive experience. However, without the discount I would think it is expensive, and based on that I don't know if I'll be back. Great for their customer service and work as long as you're willing to shell out the cash. -

I don't like getting my hair done because the stylists never listen....Jenny Alida at Salon Unity is NOT one of those stylists!! She listened to everything I was concerned with and she even had a lot of suggestions to bring my ideas into more of a reality. I LOVE my results and I LOVE Jenny for making it happen!!
I highly recomend this salon and ESPECIALLY Jenny. :-) -

I would get my hair cut at the little discount shops in my area, and frankly I was never 100% in love with it. It was cheap and convenient.
Never again. -- I am now a convert. Jenny Alida is who I will now be referring my friends to. She is amazing. I actually got up and hugged her. She took all my vague descriptions of what I'd like my hair to be, and made sense of it all.
She's charming, and I honestly could not be happier. -

I've been going here for a few years and I'm planning on making the trek down from LA when I move next month. That good? Yes.
Crystal cuts my hair and let me say that the woman has magic hands. She never fails to tame my curly locks and her work always garners compliments. The staff is nice and friendly and most of the stylists recognize me even though I'm not their client. As a guy, I would expect a high end salon to be intimidating but thankfully Unity is nothing of the sort. Go see Crystal--you'll be glad you did. -

Canyon Country, CA
I've been with Heather for years. Since I started going to Unity Salon, I have lived in Los Angeles, Orange County, Marina del Rey, Long Beach, and now Canyon Country. We've been through blonde, brunette, highlights, low lights, no lights, and more together. No matter where I live, Heather and the chill vibe are always worth the drive to Fullerton. All the girls are friendly to me, and sometimes Denise or Renee stop by to chat and help foil me... they're just awesome like that. Heather always does a great job, makes me feel great, and always gets me compliments. Oh, and this is not some snobby OC Salon. This place is so down to earth, you never feel out of place.

Got my hair cut by Renee today and she did an amazing job!
I called this morning and was able to get an appointment for this afternoon. My hair cut was $60 but I got the 20% yelp discount, so it only ended up costing around $40. I was very happy with my cut and will gladly pay the $60 next time.
I have short hair that has been through dozens of hair stylist and salons, but I think I finally met my match. I loved the atmosphere in this cozy little salon and Renee transformed my hair from shaggy, way-to-thick-awkwardness to a chic layered cut that frames my face.
I absolutely loved my experience and highly recommend Renee and Unity Salon. -

Huntington Beach, CA
I have the best hair stylist back in Ontario, California where I used to live. Every since moving to the OC, I would still drive all the way back to her to get my hair cut. A few times in the past year I have 'cheated' on her and tried new places to be dissatisfied. Again recently I decided to look for new services as I was frustrated with my long hair and needed instant relief. I hoped to find a place to go to on the regular so I can quick driving to the Inland Empire.
Well, I've tried a few places in the OC and I must say that Heather has been the best. I'm pretty picky with my hair but I trusted her and she really came through.
I recommend her and I will go back. Though I'm concerned that I may have a tougher time getting an appointment after all of these other positive reviews I've read! -

I had to find another stylist asap since my original one was on pregnant leave at another salon. A friend of mine recommended Carmen at Unity and since I loved the way her hair looked I decided to give her a whirl! I was VERY pleased with the way she cut and styled my hair! She was great at making suggestions and made me feel comfortable right away! Prices were reasonable and I was very pleased with my cut! I will definitely be returning for another great cut and service!

I've been coming to this salon for over 3 years now to see Alia. She is great! We've gone from platinum to dark to platinum again. I TRUST her with my hair! I've never had a stylist do such a great job with platinum! It's not an easy task. And of course she is friendly and always makes me feel comfortable. I really like the atmosphere in Unity Salon. Relaxed conversation and music unlike salons I've been to in the past where girls tend to be caddy. I always feel and look great when i leave her station!

Unity Salon is the first time I have ever stepped foot into a place that charges $$$! I decided to give it a try since I could no longer locate my stylist where I grew up near Bakersfield as she moved from salon to salon a lot. And all the cheaper places here in Fullerton didn't really impress me. So I gave Unity Salon a call because I figured to treat myself esp since I was pregnant. I got an appointment with Heather. She was very nice and she did an amazing job giving me layers and bangs. Of course I tend to grow out my hair long so it would be a while before I get another cut. After all the do-it-yourself hair coloring, and getting frustrated taking care of my really really long hair, I decided to call Unity Salon back up. Heather was booked solid that day. I was totally bummed because I was leaving town for the rest of the week. So I was able to get an appointment with Carmen. I was nervous at first, trying someone new and spending all that $$$, but I sucked it up and went to see her. Carmen is such a sweetheart, and she has done a great job with my hair!!!! She gave me long layers, and I followed some of her suggestions, and colored my hair a dark blue black. She then styled my hair with large curls that held all day long! Now how the heck did she do it? My hair usually falls flat and straight within twenty minutes... I felt like my hair was celebrity style quality and totally worth the money! Carmen, if you're reading this, please contact me and let me know what you did to make my hair hold my curls without it looking stiff and full of product....It'll be a few more months before I go back, but I'll definitely go back to Carmen!

I really like this salon but I LOVE my stylist Maggie Uvalle. She has been my stylist for just over three years and she always does a great job. Not only is she great for cut and color but she also specializes in extensions. I had extensions put in and they look so natural but now I have the length and body I was looking for. Maggie is really friendly, funny, and knows how to keep a conversation going so you never have that awkward silence.

was what I got when I was 12 years old. When I tried to call about what could be done about the color they simply ignored my calls. The people are inexperienced and the receptionist is rude! I love this salon. I had been going to Salon 9 for a while, but I was never completely satisfied with my cut and I felt it was over priced for what I was getting. I decided to try Unity since they are just down the street from me and have a good reputation. I made my appointment with Jennifer because the receptionist informed me she was great with short haircuts. I was very pleased when I met Jennifer because she was a joy to talk to and that makes a big difference when you are sitting for a couple hours getting your hair cut and colored. She was able to correct the issue I was having with my previous haircut and I have been greatly impressed with her work. She also helped my 8 year old daughter with her disastrous haircut that her step mother decided to do while she was at her father's for the weekend. The entire staff is friendly, professional and can cut very modern or very conservative. I am a true fan of this salon and Jennifer and I plan on going here until they either decide to close or I move out of state.

Read all the good reviews about Heather so booked an appointment to get my uneven hair color fixed. I wasn't sure exactly what shade to go with (back to dark or keep light/med brown), she gave her viewpoint and since she said there was no prob evening out the light/med brown without bleach, I decided to keep it light for the rest of summer. She also fixed my bangs and shared useful hair care and styling info/tips without me having to ask :) I am very happy with the results and service. She also cut my husband's hair after she has applied my color and he liked it, which is rare for him since his sister (hairstylist in australia) had been cutting his hair since he was 18 until he moved here 2 years ago, not sure if he will be going back though, he isn't a salon goer type of guy, he is use to his sisters at home service or barber shop style places. Either way deff cant go wrong by booking an appointment with Heather for your hair care needs :)

Diamond Bar, CA
an awesome salon b/c Carmen my "stylist" (i put stylist in quotes because i'm a dude and i should be calling her my fancy barber) there does an awesome job cutting my hair time after time. my hair is really thick and stands straight when short and hard for most fancy barbers to cut, if they don't have any experience with. fortunately from day one Carmen has the talent to make anyone's hair ny runway ready or "whatever the heck you want to do after that haircut" ready. i always can say my hair looks good, never going to hide it under a hat, unless it's raining. she's also cut my ex girlfriend's hair and did a great job, doing exactly what ex gf instructed her to do, problem was she should have gone with a different style b/c she was complaining after. Carmen did ask her if she was sure several times before proceeding. if i remember correctly, she did the bangs do and there is no going back after a cut like that. i did tell ex gf to go back right away and have Carmen tweak it a bit and Carmen had no problem doing it, service with a smile even. highly recommend to men, women and children. great cuts, reasonable price, great service and the salon is pretty stylish looking too! i especially like that panasonic ipod sound system they've got behind the receptionist, real cool looking. i apologize to you all if this review is Carmen heavy but Unity to me is Carmen. Enjoy!
