Very friendly staff and a clean, welcoming interior.  I have a PO Box there and it's been easy to access, though not on Sundays or after 6pm weekdays.

Parking's a pain in the butt, though... there's no meter parking on that block during business hours, and they'll tow you after.  So if you need to drive, you'll probably need to park across the street at the Galleria lot and pay $3 per 20 minutes.  If you're walking, though, you'll have no problems.

Large, well-lit, well-stocked, and well-staffed, this post office has handled all my needs without any difficulty. The outer lobby houses the P.O. Boxes, Priority & Express mail envelopes, slips for Registered/Certified/Insured/Confirmed mail, and an automated mailing kiosk - perfect for buying stamps and shipping packages. The inner lobby additionally boasts full shipping and mailing supplies. The line has always moved quickly and the employees have always been friendly and helpful, including my naive request of how to renew my passport. I'm happy to come here regularly.

This is the most helpful and friendly post office I've come across. Applying for a passport was smooth as butter thanks to the wonderful Heidi who helped me.

It took about 2 weeks to receive my expedited passport which I have no complaints about. Most post offices only notarize passport applications on certain weekdays by appointment only, but at this post office you don't need an appointment and they notarize everyday mon-fri and have a special line particularly for passport applicants. This post office is pretty strict about faces being the right size on passport pics but if you get there and they find that the picture isn't acceptable, there is a FedEx a block away where you can re-take your pic and only takes about 5 minutes.

After coming here you'll be telling all your friends how easy it was too.

The only USP you can actually get in and out of within minutes and considering that this is within the Financial District hub it becomes a miracle. Mail is always delivered within two days when using this location. Brings new meaning to the phrase "Going Postal", one that I think we can live with.

Now if only other gov agencies could do so well... Just don't let Brownie in the doors!

What a great post office, helpful employees, self-service machines for those of you who don't like people or the occasional line.  But this is perfect for anyone trying to mail something on their 15 minute break if you work in the FIDI.  I highly suggest it because it cost me $1.35 for something they were going to charge $8 for at UPS and FED EX.

Mail away!  ooh and they had the holiday stickers for packages already, YAYA!

I just bought ten books of stamps here, because I have a bunch of penny ones I need to use.  Since they are jacking up the price of stamps in May, I will get to supplement my new supply of 41-centers with my old supply of 1-centers.  You follow?  *Pause* It made sense 30 minutes ago...

Anyway, the lady behind the counter noticed how many stamps I was purchasing and asked me when the wedding was.
Hahahahahaha.
I laughed so hard, I startled everyone in the post office.
What's the joke?  I am.

Nothing to look at here, guys.  Keep staring at each other's packages.

This is one of my favorite post offices. Big, always staffed, very convenient location. The employees are no-non sense, always courteous,  and they get you in and out quickly.

The folks that work here are efficient and and kind.  They run like a well oiled machine and worth walking the 5 extra blocks from my office, especially with the holiday avalanche of parcels.  I think they are Santa's helpers doing double duty when they aren't looking after the man in Red.

I LOVE how many automated postal machines for packages there are @ this branch. The less interaction I have to have with cranky people, the better. And for whatever reason, the majority of the idiots waiting in that never-ending noontime line are leery of using these time savers ...  which is fine by me, as I've not had to queue up in a year.

This rating is solely for the auto parcel machine, which is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Couple this with the fact that you can order any other packing supplies you need from http://shop.usps.com and you almost never have to actually use the counter again. Seriously, check out the website, you can get stamps, pre-stamped envelopes and even priority mail boxes in the mail, nice and easy. and eBay freaks, hear this: the boxes are *totally* free. Completely. $0.00, to your door.  Get your free boxes in the mail, pack 'em up, auto parcel machine it, and you never even have to wait in line or talk to a postal service employee. What an age we live in!

Tons of self-service machines in this location. Convienent to downtown if you work in FiDi or Union Square. Way better than the one located in Macy's.

Have to get your passport renewed? Go here. I've kept delaying b/c haven't had time to get a passport picture taken until I realized they have a whole passport center here. And I was in and out in five minutes with the best and friendliest post office service ever (she let me re-take the crappy pic six times and look at each one, and was even vetoing the bad ones for me!). And then dealt with the paperwork faster than I ever would have been able to do on my own. Five stars.

I new this Office would be packed with people around lunch time since it is in financial district, so i decided to wait till about 3 to go.  Barley anyone was there.  I was going to update my passport.  I have been freaking out getting all my paper work ready because im traveling soon (Of course i wait till the last minute!).  There were no lines! I went in and met with the passport agent.  She was awesome.  She didn't need all the paper work i had.  I went in expecting to have my day ruined and instead it made my day.  she was cheerful and super nice.  I recommend this post office but not at rush hour (everywhere has a rush hr, you just need to know when)

The new auto parcel machines are great. I was in and out in 3 minutes and mailed 3 packages. Why didn't they put these things in years ago when I had to go to the post office every other day?

The USPS is conveniently located in the FiDi.  People shouldn't expect lines to be short during the lunch rush.  I've been in there after lunch and the employees are very helpful.  The auto parcel machine rocks and they've got a few vending machines if you don't want to stand in line and need to buy stamps.

okaaaay... i finally bought stamps on january 6, 2006 to send out my bills (i know, everyone says i should just use online billing- it's hard to break old habits).  of course, the postage has gone up by 2 cents since my purchase of regular stamps.  i've been to the sutter street USPS three times and they are ALL sold out at the automated machines... WTF?!  what is the point of having machines that sell stamps if they are never restocked?!

UPDATE: i went on friday and 1 machine has been restocked!

Back in my heavy eBaying days I viisted this post offie several times a week.  The lines are long - if you go at the wrong time.  The best times are 11:30AM and 2PM....I guarantee it!  Also, steer clear of Mondays and Fridays those days are reserved for procrastinators and avoiders.  To really make your trip faster, pickup and labels and packaging you might need before you get there.  Wrap it up and get it labeled and ready to go and your trip will be faster than you can say FiDi.

It's common sense to not go to the post office in downtown at lunchtime. I went at 3pm on a Friday afternoon and there was STILL a line. There's lots of self-service machines there, which is great, especially if you just need to buy stamps, like I did. But BRING CASH. I didn't know this, and subsequently had to stand in line for 15 minutes just to get a book of stamps.

lines are long, especially at lunch. make sure if you're just buying stamps to go to the line on the right. also, try the auto parcel machine. quickens things up. the counter people are cordial and helpful. but WTF is up with not posting huge signs saying the postage was increasing on the 8th of jan?! i think they wanted our mail to get returned. still better than the pine location!
