Category: Post Offices [Edit]
66 Meserole AvenueThis place is the epitome of everything that is wrong with our government. I curse the USPS everything I walk through the door. The place seems to be overstaffed because postal workers are always standing around laughing and gabbing in the back, but only on a good day are there two people actually waiting on customers. Often times the line goes out the door. The asian women who work there are the worst -- surly, petty, obstrusive. If you don't want to go postal, head for the polish pharmacy on Nassau and Leonard. The post office in Long Island City is also a good alternative.

Go to a post office in Manhattan if you work there.
Have your packages sent to your office, or your mom's, or your sister's, or make friends with someone in your building who's home all day. If you have to get packages then get up early and go before work. if you have to come on saturday, come as early as possible, and bring a book. this post office will do everything they can to make your experience as thoroughly unpleasant as possible. after hurricane katrina, i was shipping clothes, soap and toothbrushes, to refugees, and they interrogated me as though i was a terrorism suspect and threatened to open all the boxes, just because they could. just don't do it.
conversely, the 11211 post office in south williamsburg has been blessed by some odd efficiency. they handle 10 times the customers in the same time sleepy 11222 could manage. and they are open later. so if you have to go to a po in brooklyn, i recommend 11211 or the LIC post office echoed by the previous poster, but that one's tough if you don't have a car.
DO NOT APPLY OR RENEW A PASSPORT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED HORRIBLY. I haven't, but I've watched them. the abuse of power is absurd.

This must be the safest post office -- for the postal workers -- ever. They've got these plexiglass windows with a security door you have to lift up to hand your packages to them. Then they jam this metal bar forward to keep your door closed while they open a door on the other side to get your box.
They also have these speaker boxes -- Norcon's "Original Talk-Thru-Unit" -- http://www.norconcomm.... -- that they use to talk to you. They're pretty garbled, and the postal workers can be difficult to understand sometimes.
And if you're mailing padded envelopes, don't close them with staples or you'll get yelled at.
This post office isn't really worth the walk, especially given the mailing station at the Polish pharmacy near the subway.
