Review from Lance G.
CA
This is a love letter-I have never been anything else other than an American, but I meet people every day who are desperate to either live here, work here (legally), or avoid being deported "outta here." So the occasion to think, to reflect,to ponder what America means to me, as well as to them, is a daily occupational hazard. When I was younger, my patriotism came easily, maybe too easily. As an older man (44), I have learned a lot, experienced somethings, and have had enough life experiences to see both the good and the bad that is this country, the ongoing experiment, we call America, has to offer. The last eight years have not been easy on my relationship with America, in my heart. I come from a school of thought, that says if u really love someone, or something, an idea, or principal, u should be willing to sacrifice for that which u love, even to the point of risking your health or losing your life, in the endeavor. I have no patience for the "sunshine patriot, the summer soldier, or the armchair, flag-waving, I pay my taxes (grudgingly)-what else do u want of me? sort of patriot."
I have seen my country attacked, and then been utterly dismayed to see Him Who IS Not To BE Named, get us into a horrible war in Iraq, that split this country apart, in the very time we needed National Unity, and a common purpose in defeating our enemy-Al Qaeda. We have now come to this very sorry state of affairs in our economy, where the "Greed is Good" mantra of the 80's demonstrated by the Character of Gordon Gecko, in Oliver Stone's movie "Wall Street" has come to its logical conclusion, the Single greatest transfer of wealth from taxpaying Americans, to evil and greedy corporations, and wall street firms, like AIG, their greedy-ass bonus-snatching employees, and stockholders, because "They are too big or important" to be allowed to fail???!!! Somebody, please explain to me how the f__k you can be paid a "bonus" when ur company had to get bailed out by the govt. and the taxpayers. Bankrupt companies do not pay bonuses!
While I am feeling very low for my country and fellow Americans, I am also encouraged, by the election of Barak Obama, and by the knowledge, that all over the world, thousands of my fellow Americans, are manning ships, flying planes, and are in harms way in the most remotest and god-forsaken places on earth, to ensure that America's enemies are kept at bay, and that our people and their civilian leadership have the opportunity to fix what is broken in our country today. I solemnly believe that the hand of the Almighty still rests on America's shoulders, and that Providence will cause some great Americans, to emerge, to be Revealed, as they always have, in our country's darkest moments, and these great Americans, like the original George W., Grant, Lincoln, FDR, MLK, will lead us to Victory, and to make our country, yet again, the shining example to the rest of the world, of what is yet possible when the human spirit is given the freedom and liberty to prosper, invent, and create wealth and justice (They are not exclusive)! God Bless America & Death to Her Enemies!" -George S. Patton
