best fruit stand ever! if you can even all this giant open air market a fruit stand. tons and tons of fruit and veggies. all fresh, and all their prices are incredible!
i believe this address is to their office, but their place of business is actually on 30th ave on 33rd st. it has a huge yellow and green awning and takes up the entire corner.
Only annoyance is that it's cash only here, but the convenience of being 24 hrs and so close to the 30th Ave station offset that.
Their produce may not always be the freshest, however it certainly gets rotated more often than that at Key Foods across the street.
The selection of produce is definitely greater and the staff working the tills are all super friendly as well as efficient. Their smiles are genuine and my shopping experience here is strangely affected in a positive way as a result, compared to across the street.

Are you people kidding? The only thing more disgusting than the employees here is the "fruit" itself. This stuff comes in daily on a truck and 3 underpaid illegals sort through the shit in order to find the sellable stuff, which, of course, is only a step away from further backing up the 5 putrid garbage bins next door that stink up the block.
The guy that unloads and loads the fruit has co-opted 3 parking spots to park the truck, which are metered, by blocking them with other trash cans until he returns. They have knocked down branches of the tree as well.
The worst part is the mindless tic that motivates the moronic owner as he unloads and loads the stuff all day- a loud, tuneless, one note whistle which anyone and everyone on the block suffers through daily as he shuttles garbage back and forth. It is seriously a nightmare. And it's unsanitary.
Spend an extra buck and go around the corner to Elliniki Agora. Not much nicer "personnel", but definitely better produce. And not a total inconvenience to the neighbors!
Quince! Shallots! Fava beans! Red beans! All this amazing produce that my local crappy Manhattan 'supermarket' doesn't ever seem to have, at wonderfully cheap prices. A tub of shelled walnuts that would go for $6 in Gramercy is like $2.50 at United Bros. AND, open 24 hrs?!?! Sigh. I love Astoria.

The produce is the best price in Astoria, and I've always found the produce to be fresh and good looking (except the 29 cents a lb rack in the back, that produce is way past its prime). The selection is great, and has a nearly everything vegetable or fruit you may be looking for. The orange peppers were $1.29 a lb. That's an unheard of deal- the same peppers were going for $3.59 at stop and shop a few blocks away.
Be sure to bring cash from your bank, and avoid paying the ATM fee there. They do not take cards, and also, they cashiers don't bag things very well. please be aware that your peaches may end up beneath your watermelon. (this has happened to be twice in less than 2 weeks, so I'm calling this "service per usual")
but anyway, I love this place. I go out of my way to get produce from here when I get the chance
United Bros does not have the freshest produce, for sure. However, if you need some fruits and veggies that you plan to use within a day, the prices are unbeatable and the location is super convenient to pop in on on the way home from the train - even if you're coming home from a late night out and have a hankering for, say, a tomato, cause this place is open 24 hours.

Really cheap, open 24 hours, great selection - these are the things that make United Bros. great. I always will make a separate trip here, to get all my fruits and veggies. They have a great selection - they have always had what I was looking for. Except when I had that urge to try durian, haha. The freshness of the produce has always been up to par, as well. They have a really hard working crew of workers, who are always bringing in new shipments and refreshing the stashes of produce. If you're feeling a little daring, you can always try something from the 29 cents a pound section. I have yet to try it though... The prices here are incredible. I was doing some recipe testing and had to run out to get mushrooms and shallots. I looked in my wallet, and I only had 5 dollars. I scraped up some extra change, just in case that wasn't enough. So, I went to United Bros., got my mushies and shallots, and it came to......$1.06!!! I couldn't believe it.
