Congratulations, you guys win the prize for most pretentious grocery store employees on the planet!

you must all have doctorate degrees in meat slicing and bagging.  oh, wait, those don't exist... it must just be the ridiculous prices of the products you're peddling that makes you such snobs. because that makes sense.

but, good olives.

It's just like being in Whole Foods, but the prices are maybe a dollar or two more, plus the folks behind the deli counter give you evil eye looks if you ask for something they have to slice. Wait a minute, isn't that your job? Never mind.

I do love me an olive bar, so big ups, but the thing that gets me every time are petit cornichons by the pound. Sweet Jesus, I'm ready for mini-pickles with anything. I've even been known to put it on pizza, but hopefully we won't ever have to know each other that well.

D'Agostino's wants their concept back.

I just don't see the appeal of this place.  Stock is mediocre to just "good" at best yet the prices are more than you pay in Manhattan.  Their cooked food and their seafood is absolute schlock, you get better veggies and fruits at the Key Food on 5th Ave, or any of the local Koreans.  I can only guess one goes there if they're absolutely starving with marijuana muchies, or they  want to show everyone they can blow money.

The coffee and meats are so-so but the bread and cheese section is great. Premade ham and cheese croissant sandwiches also great. Lines are short and it doesn't get too crowded.

A Fairway retread without a reasonable price in sight. Crap bread but good cheese--and yet, barely a passing grade for this little slice of South Brooklyn pretension.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and award the coveted five star rating to Union Market. Why? Quality. Goods like cheeses, meats, olives, salsa (yes, salsa). There's so much to salivate over.

And if that doesn't ooze quality to your ears, how 'bout this: The first time I went in here, they were piping Miles Davis through the whole store.

Now tell me that isn't awesome.

Pros:
Nice quality veggies and fruit-no mealy apples or tomato!
Only place nearby where you can get the more exotic produce
Cheese, cheese, cheese, olives, cheese
Fresh baked bread
Good dairy
Nice and friendly butcher/fish guy
Good everything

Cons:
More pricey than necessary
To many impulse buys. I always leave with more than I planned for, though it is always good.

All in all, I should shop elsewhere because it is pricey, but I never do.

The best.  Rumor has it they're opening one right by me on 7th this fall- eeee!!! Cheeses, olives, the ONLY place to buy good produce in the area, organic yumminess, fresh seafood....perfect.  Sure, i spend 5 thousand dollars every time i even walk BY union market, but it's to be expected.  If you don't like it go back to pathmark with your fly-laden, crusty nastiness.

one fantastic thing about this "specialty market" is the cheese section. i have to say that the service in this section makes it even more worth it. they are super friendly and know boat loads about cheese. you can always try anything and if you want something cut smaller for a better price and smaller size - they are happy to do it.

A terrifically fun place to shop for a gourmet cocktail hour or party -- and you don't even have to work for your groceries! Not as fun if you're prepping a big, varied feast. You'll find beautiful produce, a vast olive bar, nice breads, and a huge cheese selection (in that way, it's a lot like Whole Foods), but it's a small store and there'll invariably be something missing that you really, really needed.

I don't need to mention that it's expensive, right? But the staff is very friendly, and will cut you stupidly tiny amounts of obscure delicious cheese with a smile. This + the grocery next to the 7th Ave Q for staples/unusual ingredients + my corner bodega (what's a bodega called if it's owned by North Africans?) in times of desperation == almost all my grocery needs.

I walked into the UM and it flirted with my senses!

Go for a walk on a Saturday morning, right when the shops are about to open and if you need to stop for a Boule to go with your Manchego, don't forget to get Fage (pronounced fa-yeh) Total Yogurt on your way out and serve it on the side with your favourite omelette.

i'm not so sure about this place. first discovering union market, i i thought it was great. breads, cheeses, prepared foods, frozen, sauces, oils, ice creams, etc.  then i realized it's so incredibly expensive and there's nothing spectacular about it. (they are the same folks as gourmet garage.)
everything is good...but i don't feel like i get what i pay for and although this is usually the case in ny, many times with food, i can't justify going there and spending like i can at some other places.
i'm a big fan of rotisserie chicken but every time i've  gotten one, i just didn't feel great after eating it--and it's happened 4 times now.
i feel like i'm a minority on this one, but i would rather get ripped off and love it!

Prior to Union Market, living in Park Slope meant you had to hop from store to store the old fashioned way - if, that is, you're really into cooking and prefer to buy quality ingredients not otherwise found at C-town.

With the Union Market, there's a more convenient way to buy quality ingredients.

Good coffee beans for 6.99 a pound, excellent bread from the city's best bakeries, good vinegars/oils, nice selection of cheese and olives, and a reasonable fish/meat counter with very nice guys who will get you what you need if you ask nicely(and insist).

Of course, not everyone is willing to pay $4 for a few pounds of King Arthur flour, and I'm certainly not paying $3.49 for a can of San Marzanos, but this does not diminish Union Market's other good qualities.

Union Market has not replaced cool stores like Blue Apron, or the Pork Store - and you'll still have to do some store hopping, but it has certainly filled a much needed 'gourmet' niche in the neighborhood.

I looooooove this place. I've only been in the Slope for a couple of months (lived in Greenpoint for 10 years) and assumed I'd have to join the Co-op (that's what every single person insisted that I do). Well, before I got it together to go to orientation at the Co-op I shopped at Union Market... well forget the co-op! Who wants to work for their groceries? Not me. Indeed Union Market is a bit pricey but come on people, embrace your innner west village gay man and get over it. It's top notch and you gotta pay for top notch. They usually have a coffee special, a pound of ground or whole bean coffee for like $4.99 - Park Slope Blend anyone? I know, it's so yuppy, oh well. The fresh pasta is delicious, the cheese selection is fantastic and the vegetables! OH MY GOD THE VEGETABLES! Ok, I've never even heard of purple endive! They've got it. Fiddle heads? Got it. Baby zucchini? Oh sure, no problem. Anyhoo, my point is, they've got standard fair, lemons, avocados, fresh sage, tomotoes etc - all of it so fresh and beautiful. If you ever feel like you want to make something special for that special someone (even if it's yourself; I do that, I'm special, no?), you'll find funky, rare vegetables there, stacked high and fresh. Yes, great bread, great desserts, yummy fish and meat, decent selection of beer and high end bath products. And get this - THEY WILL BRING THE GROCERIES TO YOUR APT! I looove this feature (hello, Greenpoint, ya gotta get with the program up there!). Have you ever wanted to stock up on Fiji, San Pelligrino, cheese and eggs? How can you get that stuff home??? Union Market will bring it over for you within a couple of hours. You can even call in your order! How cool is that? I was going to have a party one afternoon and you know how it is, you've got to clean the apartment and get it looking like it's ready for a Domino Magazine spread, then you've got to drag 200lbs. of groceries half way through Brooklyn, prepare everything, put out the nice platters, shower, get ready, etc. Then you're so cranky from all the work that you end up drinking too much and telling everyone that you really love them a whole lot? You know? Well, calling up the ol' Union Market and having all that heavy stuff brought over took half the weight off my shoulders and took a lot of the stress out of hosting. Dang, this review is too long.

I love the Union Market. It is like blue apron, but bigger and less exclusive. It is expensive, but where else in brooklyn can you find things that they sell here? It is not so large, but it is packed with great finds. They have a selection of amy's and sulivan street bakery breads, as well as bagels and other pastries. They have the freshest fruits and vegetable that are hard to find anywhere else in park slope. Last time i went in i picked up some kumquats and concord grapes. They have a selection of cheeses as well as a small olive bar. They have a lot of good dried fruits, nuts, coffee, and tea. In the back, there is a fabulous meat counter with delicious steaks. They also have generous selection of prepared foods for your chosing. If you need some vinegar or olive oil, this is the place to come. Infused, aged, it's all here. As you are waiting in line, there is a refrigerator to the left. It is filled mostly with beverages and delicious desserts. Before you go, make sure to buy a bag or two of the ike and sams kettle corn. I will warn you, once you open the bag, theres no chance of putting it down until all of the contents are gone! If you are from out of town and just want to hang out on a great day, come here, buy some prepared food, a couple drinks, and don't miss the individual pieces of juniors cheesecake. You could bring it all up to prospect park and voila, a picnic!
