Neighborhood: Brooklyn/Brooklyn HeightsUncommon Grounds has all the elements of Your Favorite Neighborhood Joint: smelly hipster baristas, home-baked goods, classical music when the grownups (owners) are around, electroclash when they're not, free wireless... everything seems right on paper, but there's just something wrong with a coffee shop that doesn't open until 11am. I understand--the smelly hipsters can't wake up to open the place--but the utility of a coffeeshop is limited when it limits its patrons access to caffeine at peak times.
In any event, they're trying. They're trying to create a loungey-hangout-read Foucault-vegan friendly space. For yuppies. There are even bad acoustic guitar nights, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were a poetry reading in the works. But hey, the coffee's good; it's comfortable; it's clean; the staff is sort of friendly in an uber-pretentious way.
I should note, however, that I find the "Everybody Poops" book in the restroom to be rather objectionable.
