On my way to the Williamsburg Spelling Bee, I stopped here with some friends for a quick dinner. The pita sandwiches were all very large and extremely messy... don't even think about eating one on the go. I got the Chicken Shish-Kawouk and it was very tasty. The dining area leaves a bit to be desired (and the garden out back isn't anything to write home about either), but they have Tab cola here and I thought that was funny. Very filling food for $5-7, yay!
Decent falafel and hummus and basic foods like this. And very cheap, especially for the area. However:
1) this place is no longer called Uncle Mina's - they've recently hung a sign that says "Falafel Chula," which I assume is the new name? Sadly, Uncle Mina's is a much better name.
2) After using their horribly filthy restroom, I was no longer hungry. Seriously it was disgusting. Don't go in there.

Uncle Mina's is the best cheap Middle Eastern restaraunt in NYC. The Falafel, Chawarma, Kebabs and sides are all the best I have had. Far superior to Oasis at the Bedford stop and better than City staples like Bekeret.
Everything is made fresh by Mina (who happens to be an awesome guy). This place is open super late (4 AM, sometimes later) and the backyard garden is nice and comfortable.
We held my roomate's brothers' birthday party there last summer and had a great time. Mina made up an excellent selection of food, allowed us to bring our own beer and wine and kicked back and had a good time with us.
All in all this place is worth the trip from Manhattan (especially on a nice day) and should be the go-to spot for everyone in Williamsburg.
UPDATE 10/26/2007
word on the street is my main man Mina is no longer running this spot. BOO!!! approach with caution. Oasis may be a better option. Mina if you get this message--- Move to SF!

This isn't your average falafel with white sauce shit. The Chicken Chawarma sandwich will stuff you for $5, and the babaganoush is the best I've ever had. No joke. It's creamy, smokey, and almost sexy. I can't get enough of the carrot salad, but if you don't like dill, don't get it. Uncle Mina and the crew are Grade A people, too. Always really nice. They just opened up a backyard, exactly what the area needs, and they're open late!. One of my top 5 places in NYC.

I'm a big fan of Uncle Mina's. The inexpensive but delicious and filling falafel sandwiches make for an excellent quick dinner. I go here regularly to get the large hummus ($5) for home snacking, and avoid the pre-packaged stuff at the grocery store.
