Ulua is a recognized staple for us. We always used to go snorkeling here. A lot of times, you have to go very, very early or you're just wave-meat too.
During this visit, we went to Ulua at around 8:30pm. That's right, we were becoming fast available to be shark-meat instead. There was still fleeting light out though, and as soon as the 2 other desperate mainlanders left the ocean, so did we.
One of the many amazing beaches on Maui.
Great overall, and still one of my favorites.
I'd still recommend this beach. Plenty of room to spread out, and easy parking!

Great overall beach park, good snorkeling too! If your not staying at one of the local hotels near the beach, you can park at the Ulua parking lot. Walk down to the beach, head left. You'll see some rock out-croppings in the water, that's were some pretty good snorkeling is.
Sandy entrance that is very gradual, good for kids and beginners. I like the left side of the rock outcropping, you can see a decent variety of tropical fish. I saw a sea turtle here too.
Since there are quite a few people, you can get here early if you like, especially during the peak season. Most of the people here are tourists, so it's relatively safe too.
Near by fresh water showers to remove the salt water from your body when you leave.

We have really enjoyed this beach on our Maui trip. I would recommend it for families with young kids because of the shady parts. The snorkeling is great too, especially in the morning.
