Ulta has a great selection of perfume and make up and it's kinda of neat to be able to go to one store for all your beauty needs but it's over priced... i'd rather go to Sephora and get the good quality.

This is the worst ULTA I have ever visited.  Their employees know nothing.. absolutely nothing about their products and are very rude.  The lines are so long but the cashiers still don't ask another employee to help ring customers up.... so the lines take foreeeeverrrr.  Their testers are either missing or gross looking.  And the store manager is a total bitch and lacks professionalism.  I love ULTA but this store really sucks and its so disappointing that this is the only one in the area.

Jen A.'s review is on point! I totally agree.

This is the worst Ulta I have ever visited, and I am disappointed it's the only one in the area. However, I'll only come here to use my coupons, and nothing else.

The employees are extremely rude, disinterested, and unhelpful. They also know nothing about what they have in their own store.

I came once, looking for a larger container of  Biolage "fortetherapie" conditioner (which is carried at every Ulta I have been to), and at first, the employee simply said that if it's not there, they don't have it. She even admitted she didn't even know what I was talking about. I asked if she can ask another employee to check, since it's nothing too fancy. She was too lazy to ask someone else, so she walked over to check with me (except, I told her I had been looking for it for 10 minutes). She kind of looked around aimlessly and concluded they didn't have it. I ended up buying another line of conditioner.

Then, the next time I went there, I found out they DID have it, but not in a jar, but in a new bottle packaging (like the large shampoo bottle). I saw the same employee and told her they DID have it, and she brushed it off with a very I-could-care-less "oh," and proceeded to ring up my merchandise, while yawning. She didn't apologize or even seem fully conscious, actually. Ooookay.

The fourth time I came here, it was 45 minutes before closing, with maybe 5 other customers there. The employees were all huddled in a corner of the store near the make-up section, having a chit-chat, and none of them were helping the customers, and I was waiting in line at an empty register. I waited awkwardly for 3 minutes with another customer, hoping they were keeping an eye on the counter, and no one showed up. I walked away, and then saw two of the employees meander and start ringing up the other lady.

The point is: the employees are lazy, clueless, rude, and don't care about the customers. They don't even know what's in their store, or don't care to ask other co-workers to see if they can accommodate the customer. Terrible Ulta store.

OK, another negative review. What can I do?! Just so much bad service out there. So, the other salon cancels on me two days before my appt. I have to go to my friend's wedding on Saturday. I call around town and Ulta's salon is practically the only with availablity. they had a lot of openings actually, I should have taken that as a sign! So, I book a 1:30pm with Lacey.

She doesn't get to me until 2pm. Girls, you know how crucial time is when you need to get ready for your friend's wedding right?! 30 minutes is a lot! So, I tell her I want a simple updo with  volume at the top and big curls with it all put up. I even show her a picture in a magazine of Jessica Alba's do. She talks like it's a piece of cake. To start off, she doesn't even comb my hair to get all the knots out . She douses it with hairspray and then fries it with the curling iron. Literally. All along she keeps saying "you know teenage girls during prom keep saying they don't like while I'm curlling but they don't even see the end result." I was like OK yeh, maybe I should wait awhile to see how it goes...I mean what do I know, I rarely get updos... Maybe they are suppose to hairspray and fry your hair to get all that frizz going :)

I should have gotten up right there and then. But I had no choice. I can't put up my own hair. She curls the whole thing, and once again I am a brunette Shirley Temple :) She then douses me with hairspray again, including my neck and ears and face. Then she takes about 50 bobby pins and twists my hair back really high. When we had discussed just 20 minutes before I want big  simple curls, volume, and a low bun and softness. Did I get any of that? No. My hair was falling down before I even left the salon. So she stuck in more bobby pins!

She knew it looked nothing like what we had discussed so she just rushed me to the counter and printed out a paper for $75. $75. I have never payed so much for someone to literally f*** up my hair. $55 for an updo, $10 for a flat iron, $10 for chemical/long hair. My hair is like 3 inches past my shoulder, not long lol.

I cried on the way home. My boyfriend said he'll come over and help me take out the pins and wash it, but there was no time. I had like one hour to put on my makeup and dress and be at the church.

I paid the cashier and when she asked if I wanted to leave a tip, I said No. She became cold and handed me the receipt and I just left. I am NEVER going back to this salon, ever. I would NEVER recommend them in a million years. Be wary. Please help me find someone who can do hair!

i like coming here and the girls are always nice to me, asking me how i was doing and letting me know that they are there if i needed help. i like their selcetion of high end and drugstore make up. i like to know that i can buy urban decay or loreal if i wanted to. i really like their fragrance section, and my bf likes coming here too, and it's pretty rare for him to like ANY store. i've never tried their salon servies, so i can't review that. i love their variety of nail polishes here, and tehir hair care section is excellent!

used to love Ulta but lately their prices have gone up, their selection down and they often do not have what is in their flyer...not because they are out but b/c they don't carry that product at all. I do like their line of cosmetics and the coupons.

I go to the Hub (where this location is at) often, and I would browse this store and see what they have. Now, I know I'm young and don't exactly look like a huge cosmetics spender, but I do like makeup and was looking forward to buying some new things for myself. However, the sales floor reps were kindof rude in my opinion. They ask how you are without even making eye contact or looking at you, and constantly get in your way by "stocking" or putting things away right next to you when your looking at a certain item. I understand your fixing the makeup displays or whatever, but must you do that right in my way? The testers look really gross and old, which pretty much made me not want to buy a single thing.

My advice: get better, warmer, sales reps on the floor who don't give blank stares and hoover around a young shopper.

And please please get some new testers, this really deters people from buying, I haven't been back in quite a few months since my last visit.

Maybe I should go to Sacramento to enjoy a good Ulta, cause this one sucks.  The only reason I give them the three stars is because of the coupons I get.  Otherwise, I wouldn't go their unless I was desperate (if Target, Sephora, Longs, Wal-Greens, Rite-Aid, Wal-Mart, and my mom all simultaneously shut their doors in my face).

They do have a good range of everything--cheap stuff and your "nicer" make-up, but I've found that some of their "cheap" stuff is more expensive than, say, Longs.

Their employees are inconsistent, some take expired coupons freely, others don't, so I find myself avoiding certain people at the register so I can get my eye liner for 20% off.  But before they're busy confusing you w/ their practices, they're stalking you by following you around.  However, your questions are being ignored. That's just the most useful practice ever.

I haven't gotten a haircut, and some people (below) are happy, but I've gotten cheaper haircuts in San Francisco (less than the $60 they charge here) by recognized professionals.

They do have pretty much everything beauty related, a range of hair tools, masks, massage machines, and most of the products of Sephora and they aren't as crowded (wonder why . . .)

I only give this place 2stars because I did get a good haircut. She was very nice and knowledgeable about my type of hair (really thick, naturally curly), and she gave me a great cut, but I feel like I have to let people know about their shady business practices.

She charged me an extra $10 for long hair (my hair is seriously only like 2 inches below my shoulders) and another $10 for flat iron.  WHAT?!  I've gotten my hair done plenty of times and NEVER have I been charged additional fees like this.

She did a consultation with me before starting and at that point should have mentioned the extra $10 long hair charge.  And she should've asked me if I wanted her to do the flatiron.  She only did it because she said my hair was still too puffy after the blowdry and immediately started with the flat iron.  I would have told her not to do it if I would have know she was going to charge for it!

I even tipped her $15 on what I thought was going to be a $40 haircut (I had a 20% off coupon) which I thought was pretty generous.  After that I found out about the extra $20 in charges.  On top of all this the girl at the counter was very rude when I questioned the additional charges, sort of like she was on the defensive (which makes me think she's gotten complaints about this before).

I am going to cancel my next appt because I'm just so angry and feel like they tried to pull one over on me (and I'm going to make sure I tell them why).  They should have been more up front about extra charges.

The employees are not helpful at all. I came in here yesterday and i walked around looking at the makeup products for over an hour, and THEN the employee asked me if i needed any help. I believe the lady who asked me if i needed help only walked up to me to see what i looked like, or closely examine my makeup.
The employees carry themselves like they are stuckup.

i give this ulta two stars, booo you fremont ulta.

I went in to get my very neglected hair cut, since I decided I was no longer driving to San Francisco and dealing with my tormented former stylist.

Good: they had an immediate opening for me to get my hair done, as a walk-in.

Bad: Dong, who took me in, insisted that in addition to the $40 normally charged to cut hair, there would be a $10 additional charge due to the length of my hair.  My hair comes down to about my bra straps; it is not exceptionally long.  No, my bra straps are not in an unusual place on my body, either.

Good: I wasn't actually charged this surcharge; I managed to successfully argue that I had been to Ulta salons before and never charged extra, and in addition to that my hair was (is) fairly thin and tends to take mere minutes to chop.

Bad: When I asked where to place my purse, she had me place it on the floor in full view.  No offense, but I'd be sort of screwed if my purse walked off, and later requested that it be brought to me while my deep conditioner was being baked in.  Also, she fastened the cape very tightly around my neck and got the back of my shirt wet - both are just putzy issues but I'd go to Super Cuts or something if I wanted ineptitude.

Good: another girl, Lacy, actually cut my hair, and she did at least well enough.. my style is not very complicated and she didn't hack too much off or anything.

Good: they apparently have a "Signature Service" now that includes a haircut and a deep conditioning treatment for $50, when it would've been $55 separately.

Mixed opinion, mixed experience.

I'm a huge fan of ulta.  I've had great experiences at all 3 of the locations I've been to in Sacramento.  The Fremont one though?  It's a little funky.  The people that work there don't have the same understanding of customer service as the other employees I've interracted with.  It's just odd, I don't get as excited when I'm in this one.  I feel cramped for some reason.  The merchandise seems to be lacking something too...

The only thing I like about this place is that I don't have to drive all the way to San Jose to buy my Urban Decay and Too Faced products.

Reasons to hate Ulta:
- all their testers have been stolen by the Fremont bopper hoodlums
- they don't replace thier testers, therefore you must open the package to look at thier products
- like everyone else have said, the snooty ass workers with too much make-up and horrible dye-jobs follow you around
- they stalk me even more because I like to carry oversized purses

Ok so I know ULTA is ridiculous in it's salon prices and it's a good beauty store where you will find your basics and more, but the purpose of this review is for THE BEST and I mean it when I say THE BEST hair stylist/hair goddess I have ever come across, and that's Rami.

No only is Rami very knowledgeable, but she is passionate about hair and LOVES what she does; most stylists that I've come across are so over doing hair that it shows, especially when you don't get the hair cut that you want or they dye your hair the wrong color.
I have recommended many many many people to Rami and everyone has been more than satisfied with their results and are now her return customers just as I am!
Every time I get my hair done by Rami people notice, and I get compliments on it EVERY TIME I get my hair done by her, no joke!
She's my secret weapon, but I know there are many of you out there who have had bad cuts, bad color jobs, or both!  So don't hesitate, call Ulta and ask for her, I guarantee you will get your money's worth with her.

because of my last review, i need to make a happy one.

i'm really giving this place 3.5 (4 if i come back and the same two sales people are working) because service is really topsy-turvy. i guess i was really lucky tonight.

because i have an ulta card, i get coupons in the mail & that's the only time i'll visit the store (or, if i'm really wanting some OPI nailpolish). they have great deals here, too. just don't buy the lower end cosmetics at this store at full price because a lot of them are cheaper at target (walking distance from ulta). i found mascara there for $7.99 and i walked over to target and found the same mascara selling for $5.99...hm.

oh well, this is the only ulta close to me, so i'll eventually come back...when that coupon comes.

err okay, i just realized this really wasn't a happy review. boo. i'm just not winning tonight. hah.

2 stars just because they carry some good stuff and I loved going to the ones in Sac, when I used to live there. Ulta is like Target meets Sephora, but the service is just terrible here. I've been here three times since it opened and it has never been busy...and I guess we all know why. But you should check the clearance section. I found some really cheap essie polish one time. I'll only come back when I have a coupon and it's convenient.

I'm glad that a store like this has surfaced. I mean, I'm very thankful for the local beauty shops but ULTA is like the Costco of beauty supplies and products. I can shop here for hours and just be amused by my surroundings and end up not buying anything at all. I've never been to the salon and I don't intend to so I can't really say much about that. But I'm just thankful that I'm able to buy makeup and salon products locally without having to drive to the nearest Sephora which really isn't so near.

I must admit, I like the selection and the coupons they send in the mail.  When I spend a boat load of money on make-up, I expect good service.  The women that work there are so snooty!  They have this get your items and get out of my face attitude.  I have given it several tries to see if I just came on a bad day.  Nope!  They hold their noses up high like they are above all the people that shop there.  If I am going to spend lots of money on make-up, I will go to a true make-up counter where they will actually care about what I buy.

Ulta has so much promise - an "in the middle" drug store that has drug store brands and "better" brands...  But I was sadly disappointed by the selection of make up and, particularly, hair products.  I find so many hair salons and hair care stores are hit-or-miss with their selection - typically because one or a couple of hair products companies will supply all of the stores product.  So, I thought, PERFECT - the Sephora of hair products.

So sad - no Bumble & Bumble, no Kerastase, no Biosilk either!  Really, there was just a small selection of more premium hair care products (such as Bedhead products).  Alas, this place doesn't have a better selection than the Target around the corner or any other drug store and isn't much better on price.

I would take a pass...unless you got a $5 off coupon in your Lucky magazine - then it might be worth it....

Okay, I should have consulted my fellow Yelpers before going to Ulta.  I was in a jam!  My roots were showing really bad.  I had an important meeting the next day and I just moved here so I had no friends to consult for salon recommendations.

The lady at the salon seemed friendly and knowledgeable so, what the heck, let's get this hair fixed at a bargain price, right?  Ugh, my hair came out a completely different color than we discussed.  It was as if she accidentally picked up the wrong bottle of dye - it was WAY off the mark and totally different from the sample piece.  Lesson learned - you get what you pay for.

In a hurry?  Ulta is fine, but I'd get the do-it-yourself products if I were you.

Not in a hurry?  Have some self-respect, honey, and get yourself to a reputable salon (and check YELP first!).

Object:  Pureology Hair Products

staff "appeared" knowledgeable last time I came.  The Manager asked if I needed help and I told her I was looking for Pureology hair products - she said they do not carry that line but TARGET Stores, do .. I told her she was mistaken and she said, "No, I saw the product line there."    Hmph .. disappointed that she was the Manager unaware ...

I recommend Pure Beauty which is next to the Safeway/Tacobell across the way from Ulta - they have more to offer & actually carry alot of the Pureology Hair Products ... I also found Skin Fitness Salon (next to target) to carry the PUreology products as well .. Target does not and never has.   Boo on Ulta.

Odd to see so many bad reviews of this place.. apparently I haven't been going there long enough to get the crappy service everyone is describing. I shop there when I'm doing my weekly hub errand running and I subscribe to ulta's email to get the coupon then use  coupon to get something super cheap. Since there have everything there I can always find something. OF COURSE if Sephora was in Fremont I'd probably go there too.. god, I love me some sephora.. I might have to go there tomorrow to get my fix.. haha.. well back to ulta.. it's a shame about the crappy reviews.. the store has potential if the staff would get their stuff together. I never ask for help when I'm there so maybe that is why I'm happy with the store with the wide variety of beauty products.

Their products are really nice. They have everything from bare minerals to drugstore brand make-up, to perfumes & bath supplies.

But I HATE going in there because the people that work there are just too flippin' rude! I can't even sample the tester without having someone yelling at me & telling me that if I want to try the make-up, I need the make-up artist to do it for me. I think they're all just angry because they got rejected from working at MAC Cosmetics.
Not only did they yell at me for using a tester, but after that the manager had someone follow me the rest of my time there.

ULTA is only good if you know what you want, & know exactly where in the store it is.

Ulta is a decent place to pick up perfume or your Bare Minerals make-up if you don't want to brave the mall.  They are kind of a weird mix of Walgreens and Sephora.  I only give them 2 stars because the sales people are snotty and rude.  Everytime I have gone in it seems like they are beyond annoyed that you would even dare to bother them with even a simple thing like asking if they carry a particular perfume.
Ulta is ok because it is close, but I really wish we would get a Sephora in the area.

.. and I gave it two just for the selection!
Ya know, I was born here, lived here, shopped here and in all my life I have never expierenced prejudice like I have walking into this store. The manager Teri ( I dont care if i misspell it) immediately scans you over when you walk in, like you smell or have a booger hanging from your nose. When you realize you are being scrutinized, she OVER customer services you. Now I noticed she didnt follow the caucasian customers, but she sure as hell stalked my sister and I. Several times I had to tell her 'no i dont need your help, I am just looking', but there she was at all turns. Heaven forbid if I picked up a perfume to smell it, than she was right there! *dont worry sister I dont steal!*
she had been 'helping' *choke* us our whole time there, seen us go to the register and make our purchase. When we walked to the door, the alarm went off, ofcourse she immediately came to the front, and looked over our receipts! She had just seen us at the register!! She scans each item on the reciept slowly, as if giving us time to make a run for it. LOOK HERE SISTER, JUST BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T GET A REAL JOB @ 40 YRS OLD AND COULD ONLY BE A MANAGER AT A RETAIL STORE.LOOSE THE TUDE!
Ulta itself has a decent inventory, but the Klan member Manager makes it so uncomfortble to shop there, I'd gladly give up a deal so I dont have to be treated so rudely.

Ulta is definitely several steps DOWN from Sephora.  To start off with, when I went in the store, there was hardly anyone shopping there.  Nearly empty.  It's big....has tons of products, and empty (at least it was at that time) hair salon, and an aisle full of clearance items.  But ya gotta dig thru all those clearance items, it's definitely not organized at all.  But if you have the time, have at it!!  I only ended up purchasing some soap & a lip gloss.  During check-out, I was offered an Ulta card (it's free), but I don't think I'll ever rack enough points on it to earn anything since I don't plan on being a regular at this store.

It's like Sephora without the hypo-allergenic, environmental sound cosmetics.

Seriously this place doesn't carry brand except  i.d. Bare Escentuals that's worth buying.

That said it does save me a trip to the city when I need more  i.d. Bare Escentuals.

Yes and the servers are rude and bring out the rude in me, which I don't like.

I was pretty excited about this place when it first opened so I frequented it since I work only a mile down. I thought it was nice since it was almost everything under the sun (for beauty) rolled into one store.

At one time they had all these great promotions and even had make-up artists come in, but eventually I had to realize that it was just "Grand Opening" hype type of junk.

The staff isn't very knowledgeable about the products either. I asked one of the girls if she could help me find a good brush cleaner, but the girl just handed me a box & didn't explain it or suggest anything else.

Plus, they don't restock when they say they will. A lot of cosmetic displays are empty & they will remain empty for weeks.

Now, Ulta's just like a regular make-up store or a place I go to when I have a break between classes & work. I do have to admit, I can find some good deals here sometimes & put their coupons to good use, but that's about it.

I go here for the id Bare Minerals makeup. Saves me a loooooong trip out to the city. I also bought a pressed powder mineral foundation by Pur Minerals because the makeup girl was so convincing =) I like having a compact version of mineral makeup to carry in my purse. I don't really buy anything else here, but at least they have my bare minerals =)

Ulta is somewhere that I stop by from time to time, usually to pick up perfume, Urban Decay eye shadow or miscellaneous things from Pop Beauty when I am too lazy to go all the way out to San Francisco or San Jose to Sephora. They have a huge variety of things, but most of them are drugstore-type items and stuff that I can find at other places, for example Pure Beauty, which is only right down the parkinglot but they have much better deals- especially considering the Pure Beauty Club card makes a lot more sense to me than Ulta's. I have spent at least $500 at Ulta in the past 6 months ago and used my club card yet NEVER gotten anything back.
I haven't been to Ulta's Salon but I don't really want to considering the customer service on the floor is always terrible. Nobody ever offers you any help, or even makes you feel comfortable in there. Whatever. Ulta is ok, but if there was a Sephora in Fremont I would never set foot in Ulta.

At first I was in love with Ulta. It really is a fabulous store- they have EVERYTHING beauty/hair/parfume related. BUT- THIS PLACE SUCKS ASS.
Here's what happened folks:
I got a paraffin wax spa as a present, unfortunately, it was used. That is just nasty. So- I took it in to EVEN EXCHANGE it- they wouldn't do it w/o a receipt. LAME. That is fucking retarded. I just wanted a NEW & UNUSED SPA THAT SOMEONE DIDN'T STICK THEIR NASTY FEET INTO!!!!
So, here's what I did- I bought one & returned the old one. Ha!
Needless to say, their store policies are similar to the Nazi regime. The manger I dealt with had major attitude & was a bitch. I used to spend HELLA money in there, but I won't ever be going back. Ever. I beg you to do the same. Any company that number one- sells used shit on their shelves and then number two- doesn't do an exchange on it doesn't deserve my business- or your business! Go somewhere else. Support small business. Or any business other than Ulta.

i'm going to start out by echoing shana a's sentiment about how odd it is to see so many bad reviews for ulta on here - what is going on with you ladies?

before i continue on with my thoughts, i'll confess that i have no tolerance for badly run establishments and poor customer service (see my review for 817), i also admit that, in a bout of afternoon boredom yesterday, i read these yelp reviews before i went to ulta and  i was discouraged, to say the least. what was especially disconcerting was that all of my previous ulta experiences in chicago had been most wonderful.  every time i made the mid-west trek i made it a point to stop in at filene's, ulta and marshal fields... all wonderful chi-town atractions.  when i finally discovered that there was an ulta in the bay area i nearly hit the roof... and then upon reading these strange reviews i was quite perplexed... had the ulta + california combination been a bad match? i'd have to check it out.

my experience was nothing less than delightful, especially considering that this was in fremont (sorry to sound like a snob).  the store was well stocked, fairly clean (no more mucked up than sephora, sorry ladies), no one said boo when i tried tester after tester, i was asked several times if i needed any help (although not to the point of being over-solicitous) and when i did ask about a particular kind of product, the girl who helped me was knowledgeable, friendly and professional.

in my humble opinion, the really great thing about ulta is that it's got all the bases covered.  drugstore brands, salon brands, and most things in-between, meaning that you can make one stop and get everything taken care of.  and, the prices are completely reasonable, especially if you get their mailer or download their coupon.  only thing that would make this a 5 star review would be if they opened one in san francisco. :)

A sad excuse for a beauty megastore.
